The first Ludwig does it for me.
First off, THE FREAKING ROOM SOUNDS AMAZING!
That Sonor Danny Carey 8 x 14" bronze shell at medium tuning: holy cow!
it'a very Bonham no question
The Black Beauty on medium tuning is just the perfect snare sound.
I swear different snare difference is why I like drums very much
For me the winner is the: Yamaha SD-3465 but that's just personal taste. All of them sound wonderful! Great video!
Thanks a lot!
superb video - thanks very much. they all sounded fantastic!
I've never owned a Ludwig kit or even drum in my life, but damn, they sure own the snare drum world. So many weapons...
great video. You get all the nuances with the close microfoning, and as well how the same room/player and tuning makes every snare very close to each other.....
Thank you!
very nice, I use the Ludwig Colosseum as my main snare and I love it!
I really enjoyed this. Those snares sounded great.
They all sound fine. Great tuning and great touch. Bingo!
Nicely done. I think the truth of the matter is that they all sounded pretty good depending on the tuning. Certainly different qualities from each but I could find a use for any of them.
Ludwig is the king of snares
Tama made the holy grail
Ludwig certainly is the king of snares (Drums in general too). The Black beauty has been copied but no other company does it like Ludwig
Yesssss!
Exactly !
This man knows how to tune snares
The TAMA Mastercraft made me look up from the comments.
All great snares and great drumming!
The Ludwig Hammered Bronze also got my attention.
Loved my Tama Mastercraft like this one from 1983, until the lugs started to fall off. The screws would just shear off from the lugs. Cheap pot metal, had the same thing happen to the lugs on the Imperial Star kick drum from the same era.
I like the bass drum
@@DennisRivenburg-de4sg WHOOOOSH
Tony Brooks agree
Fantastic Comparison Video. Thank you.
BEST SNARE SAMPLES VIDEO EVER!!! Thanks!!!
Starting points for medium tuning, close mics.
Ludwig hammered bronze 14x7 0:21

SJC Custom Drums birch. 2:00

Sonor Danny Carey Signature bronze 3:36
Ludwig Coliseum maple. 4:08
Yamaha SD-3465 aluminium 4:40
RTCustoms birch. 5:12
Beverley Cosmic 21 aluminium 5:44
Was closing my eyes listening.
Heard something familiar and nice.
Opened my eyes.
Yep, black beauty.
There’s just something about that snare.
bronze was my favorite. I don't usually like steel but man that tama surprised the heck out of me. solid tuning and playing
Same! That was sick, and while Tama was my first drum kit, I never expect their snares to sound THAT good!
They all sound great. I'll take the Ludwig hammered brass. Love that finish. Great drumming, also.
I just loved the Tama MasterCraft tuned high...Yamaha was great too and the hammered black beauty
Generally speaking, I love the 6.5" drums tuned medium. Although, the Sonor Danny Carey signature sounded really nice! Out of all the drums, I definitely prefer the metal drums over the wood drums.
Lovely room! Kick sounds great lol.
Great video! ! I like the consistency / redundancy of grooves. Different sounds from the different mics. The third groove just kills me!! Lol. Very Dave Grohl! I always try to finnese the groove when I play. But sometimes you gotta pound it. All the snares were nice. The coliseum was my favorite. I owned one briefly. Lovely instrument.
All these sound so good!
2:26 this is a great snare sound
more than 1000$
Finally! A guy who know how to hit a snare drum. Thank you.
Man... They all sound great!!!!
im in love with the SJC custom birch at high tuning!
Great sounding room!
I had an old Beverley crash cymbal. It looked awesome. "Vintagey". Sounded like a pie plate. I gave it away.
Hammered Black Beauty and the Yammy are so sweet. I'm a Yammy guy and have the Manu brass, a copper and a Maple Custom.
Great video, thanks.
1) Ludwig Coliseum maple 14x8 - medium
2) Yamaha SD-3465 aluminium 14x6,5 - high
3) Ludwig hammered bronze 14x6,5 - high
1 & 3 sounds basically the same if you listen to them back to back. Just a tad more oomph in the 14x8 (for obvious reasons).
I play Premier.
Ludwig hammered bronze & Yamaha SD-3465! Beverly Cosmic was nice also!
my #1 favorite is the Sonor Danny Carey at 3:30
2nd favorite is 2 drums both the Ludwig hammered brass. and the hammered bronze. 0:16 and 2:26 they both sound the same. and just to give a 3rd choice or 4th choice would be the Yamaha SD-3465 at 4:34
what a fucking awesome sounding room
My favorite was definitely the tama mastercraft.
Great vid!!
Thanks!
Loved the SJC, never heard of that brand. Nice vid
Guido Lomanto no. 1 to me.
Guido Lomanto Great company,San Jose Custom :) check out the paramount kit
4:02 that is a fantastic sound
Ludwig Maple ...killer snare.
Most of them sound very good!
Só caixa Top
I liked the Yamaha aluminium 14x6,5
I agree. That and the Ludwig hammered bronze.
The first Ludwig in medium tune sounds best I think. The Sonor is also good and the Black Beauty for low tuning. I have a Ludwig Supraphonic myself and it just sounds fantastic!
Agreed. That's the sweet spot.
SJC and the Black Beauty are my favorites. What's a SLC anyway?
The lows tunnings rocks baby
Beverly cosmic, wow!
Please what is the name of that long lamp of blue lights? behind you
Good god I love the low tuning sound! DO IT!
Every single one sounded the same to me with the lowest tuning. Gushy, Jello ThWAPp!
I’m an SJC guy myself but those Ludwig snares are soooo good
What type of heads are used remo ambassador?
Sjc Yamaha Maple and Ludwig Coliseum imho in that order❤
Was the audio processed? It sounds so good.
The Ludwig Classic (Ringo drum) turned to medium tension does it best for me. I’m not into deep shells; all the others were too big and boxy for my ears.
Any of the Ludwigs😍. But that Tama was impressive.
this video is awesome. could you make how to tune the snare?
Superb video.
Thanks, man!
lol at all the low tunings - THWAP!
Hell yeah man! I love that shit!
Tama Mastercraft one love:)
this coliseum ludwig
That Tama Steel... *jaw drop*
The Tama Mastercraft steel snare has itts snare wires incorrectly attached. I wonder what difference there might be if the roller bed design was used as intended (and with the original unobtainium snare wires)...? Very cool video, btw, thanks for doing it. LOVE the Ludwig hammered bronze.... Wow!
Ludwig Coliseum!👍
Black Beauty...no wonder there aren’t cheap.
I liked the Yamaha SD-3465 at medium tuning. I’d bring it up just a little bit above medium and it would be perfect for me
Which head is on the black beauty?
as usual Ludwig king of snares
The Ludwig black oyster maple snare sounded good... But then it's all about tuning
That beverley on high tuning sounds incredible. Yummy
what kick is that? I was diggin it!
Tama Starclassic Maple 22x18
ludwig coliseum great sound
I agree. All tunings.
Beverly ,medium , what a great "snap" with "meat " my kinda snare !
Yeah that was the best sounding of the bunch, and I tend to like 13” snares more!
Ludwig 14x5 maple wins. Flawless Victory
Is that 3/8 or 3/4 6/8 it's a killer beat
That guy hits HARD.
Now i am starting to like low tuning. But i think it works better on deep snares. Remembers Matt helders snare on AM or the Ramnstein drummer sound.
Interesting to hear that shallower drums usually sound cleaner and more focused in the low tunings!
Shallow snares tuned low can sound really good IMO.
Noble & Cooley???
That Ludwig Coliseum
What this taught me is that if you're gonna tune ridiculously low, you're gonna want your drum to be at least 8" deep. 7" was ok with the 13" drum. My lowest tuning is just a hair lower than the medium tuning here.
What heads are you using on the Mastercraft?
Remo Emperor X Coated Dot and Ambassador snare reso
Tel me !! What is that brand high hat stand ?!!!!!!??????
wow the 13x7 birch at medium tuning sound best to me
A lot to like, there ... ! :))
same grooves each time...thank you! smart...in the end, not much difference. Buy your name drum to feel better...drums a drums a drum at this level. Keep in mind your head selection and your tuning matters most! How YOU hit the drum as well and where...most of us are playing live gigs and the band will box out most of the nuances...so it comes down to personal preference...they're all quality drums!
Jeff Porcaro Groove while true, I think the actual snare system matters a lot, obviously depth matters alot too. When you play loud and through a mic it is not a big difference but if you play live no mics jazz, blues, fusion, etc. It really does make a big difference. Especially the Bd and high toms sounds.
Loving the Beverley...mind you, I own one, so I'm a bit biased.
Black Beauty Top!
No Pearl snare?
Black beauty low tuning is what was on Master of puppets.
What Remo is on the bass drum it's so deep and warm
Powerstroke 3 coated
Ludwig Black Beauty Hammered....best sounding
That Aluminum Yamaha was the best hands down, followed by the Tama, Black Beauty and Sonor :v
tama mastercraft steel for me or the sjc birch!
my Lord, your lows are REALLY low 😂. awesome vid tho 👌
god i love the yamaha sd-3465
