- Matthew Goode is ready for people to see him in ‘The Offer,’ premiering April 28 on Paramount+. The actor was so busy shooting the new show, in which he plays late producer Robert Evans, that he couldn’t be part of the new ‘Downton Abbey’ film. He opens up to ‘Extra’s’ Katie Krause about filming the 10-episode series about the making of ‘The Godfather.’
Even though he’s 44 he acts like a happy child, it’s really nice

I've been watching the Godfather series and he's great in it; I didn't even recognize him. Time well spent! I also love Downton Abbey, but they could have spared him for this major role.

Oh, maybe The Offer isn't released yet in England - that's a television limited series about the making of The Godfather. He plays the legendary Robert Evans, the head of Paramount Studios, which produced it.

If you watch until the end, he explains that he’s not in the new movie because he was shooting The Offer instead. It’s the reality of Both scheduling and Covid. One can’t be shooting The Offer for seven months in California and show up for a movie production at the same time in England and France. Even a cameo would have been out of the question as the exposure to Covid would have meant shutting down either production, not to mention visas and reentry difficulties during Covid. Miles Teller had already shut down The Offer production when he caught Covid having refused to be vaccinated and it cost a small fortune due to the delay.
He said at the last few seconds when she asked. He responded he won’t be in it because he was working on The Offer.

@@olly-kai Not if they need him for 10 years or more. It takes its toll on an actor physically. Of course, if they want to start him off as a middle-aged agent he would fit. That wasn't the case with Craig. In any case, I don't think Bond is in his future.

I totally agree - there was zero chemistry between Mary and his character. She should have married the other guy played by Julian Ovenden. There was enough chemistry there to start a fire - and they almost did rolling about in the hay if I remember correctly.

This guy was was very humble around the time of "Leap Year". Then he had the utter PRIVILEGE of being in Downton, but could ony DEIGN to appear in the last few minutes. Presumably because he was "filming something else". And now, not in the the 2nd film AT ALL, for that very reason, he says. Don't these actors feel any obligation toward fans (and Julian Fellowes)? I am now following his career closely, to see all the huge box office smashes he has (cough). If you ask me, he's shot himself in the foot and "done a Dan Stevens". Hey ho. Time will tell!
