I think one of the reasons why they didn't include that one is that it was a genuine reaction as in she honestly didn't know what a weekend was. Where as all the other lines are of her own creation/wit/opinion.
Mary's boyfriend scene with Matthew on the end of season 2 he said "I think we won't be seeing each other anymore" the dowager says "do you promise" I MEAN KMONNNNN this is one of the besf characters ever portraited
My favorite was when haughty Ian Glenn was Mary's new suitor after she had turned down Matthew. You could tell they were ill-suited for each other even though he had been knighted, and was independently wealthy. He threatens Mary by saying that he is never coming back again, and Granny says, "Oh good, is that a promise?" I love Ian Glenn and about fell off the couch laughing!
Glen was asked in an interview about working with Dame Maggie. He confessed he did his best to remain under her radar. I had a whopping crush on his Jorah Mormont. That made me very unsympathetic toward Khaleesi. He was far less appealing as Mary's fiance. I had to wonder how she ever considered it.
I want to see an Epic Rap Battle of History: Maggie Smith as the Dowager v/s Dianna Rigg as Olenna Tyrell. Screw Drake and Pusha, that would be a bloodbath.
It's actually happened! They both star in 'Evil Under the Sun' as former chorus girls. They have some brilliant lines. Rigg: l could always kick my legs higher than you. Smith:..... And wider... Priceless.
@@Pdjohnners omg i was JUST about to say the exact same thing! I loved them both that movie! And the movie is brilliant And it's a Christie mystery to top it all off!
One laugh after another and these three actors - love them all - said exactly what we thought and more, of course. So glad 'Tom' was kept in the show the whole time. His character really had 'some traveling' to do - great job too!
Maggie knows how to be ruthlessly rude with classic style! She had me laughing all too long and often. You just can't help liking her. Her actions, her snobbery just everything about her. I want to be like her when I am in my 70's and beyond.
I love you all! I love your characters and that is only because of the incredible talent of the best large cast I have ever seen. You couldn’t possibly imagine how much pleasure your performances give to your huge fan base. Thank you.
I am surprised they haven't done a special feature on all the "inside jokes." Like the time in season 6, Violet is talking about the fight over the hospital. She brandishes her cane, and says "en garde!" She did it just like she did when waving her Harry Potter wand! And even more obvious, Patricia Hodge, as Bertie's mother, says something is "what I would call...." Again, her 'signature line,' straight out of her role in the TV show 'Miranda.' There may be lots more that I, living in America, would not pick up on.
Delightful interview. Thoroughly enjoyed meeting these fine actors again talking about their show and in particular, Lady Grantham. Absolutely top revisit for me : Downton Abbey! I can never get enough.

My personal favorite was in season 1 when Matthew Crawley first comes and talks of his job. Maggie is flabbergasted at the hours - 'when do you have time to yourself' and he says "oh it's not too bad, we have off on nights and weekends" and The Dowager quickly replies "what is a weekEND?". I still quote that all the time.

I think one of the reasons why they didn't include that one is that it was a genuine reaction as in she honestly didn't know what a weekend was. Where as all the other lines are of her own creation/wit/opinion.
Maggie Smith is so iconic GOD
Elle est une de mes actrices favorites !
crying atm; She's not God and her acting is quite extraordinary but she is not an icon.
@@zeebee9356 shhh let people enjoy things
I read this comment with Jongdae’s voice in my head and now I can’t read it any other way.
Zee Bee are you ok
Mary's boyfriend scene with Matthew on the end of season 2
he said "I think we won't be seeing each other anymore"
the dowager says "do you promise"
I MEAN KMONNNNN
this is one of the besf characters ever portraited
We need more Allen Leach doing impressions of the cast!!😂
Laura Carmichael modern day hair is so dreamy! She looks stunning here
My favourite Line Maggie ever uttered on Downton Abbey is "I never argue, I explain" 🤣😍🤣
Absolutely, she delivers in such an incredible and unmatched way.
It’s obvious how much they love Maggie Smith. I really enjoyed this video.
RIP - a true tour de force and the epitome of class. She will be missed.
I think the only time she ever panicked,
"Sprat! You're losing you sense of the appropriate! You're losing your sense of occAAAsion!"
I want to see an Epic Rap Battle of History: Maggie Smith as the Dowager v/s Dianna Rigg as Olenna Tyrell. Screw Drake and Pusha, that would be a bloodbath.
OH MY GOD
Imagine Maggie facing Cersei. Tyrion would be screaming BOW TO MAGGIE, BOW!
Yes!
Amazing how Edith was played to be the "ugly" sister when the actress herself is quite beautiful!😍
I agree
Agree very good looking
Can’t take me eyes of off Mary. Now thats a Beauty
Not at all
Yes, she is quite beautiful !!
allen leech is too handsome, i can't take it
For sure! Boyishly handsome. Like a warm cupcake. One of the best looking actors working in cinema today.
Loved him in Rome too
Yesssss! My favorite character is Tom
"I always wanted to use that spell!"
No no no....different part of England
You kids are absolutely brilliant!! Every actor/actress is simply perfect.. every episode. Thank yall so much.
Aw they missed my favorite!! When Sir Richard says he’s never going to see her again and she says, “Do you promise?” 😂
She's the light of the show.. Can't stop laughing everytime see her act.. 😂😂
Richard: "I'm leaving in the morning lady Grantham. I doubt we'll meet again"
Lady Grantham: "Do you promise?"
😭😭😭
Violet's entire dialogues and her acting in the series is fabulous❤️
I mean, she’s the best. I absolutely roll every time she gives a one liner like these!
You three are wonderful! Thank you for being so candid and personal. Certainly it is the gift of the professional. Rodney
I’m 17 and downtown abbey is my childhood haha love these guys xx
Z Otter123 I’m 19 and same 😂😂 nice to find people our age like it 😄
@@KayW379 16 but I just started it this summer. Not to bring race into it but I dont see lots of black people my age that are into it although I'm sure there are.
Same I’m 16 and downton’s one of the only series I’ve ever rewatched because I love it so much
My son is 17 and knows every character by name.
Bless you!
But like every line is Maggie smiths best.
She’s just too amazing!
