My husband loved Violet and her one liners. Each time she would rip one off he would say "You tell 'em Maggie! "Sadly my husband passed away in June and as I was rewatching Downton Abbey for the 5th time I really missed him watching it with me. 😪

Not wanting to sound ungallant, but I've admired Maggie Smith's acting ability for decades. She has a unique quality that impresses itself into every film role she's ever been in. She gets high points on timing, and she knows the value of a pause or a moment of silence.

From a medical standpoint, it is actually possible for Matthew's spinal cord injury to have "healed", especially in those days when there was not as advanced medical practices. Spinal cord bruising or other muscular damages can result in moderate to temporary immobilization. As the swelling goes down and he healed it was found that he was not truly paralyzed. It's a real thing, check it out.

Mackenzie Masden Lady Sybil also didn’t die whilst in labour. She passed away in the night after the birth. From Eclampsia. The symptoms of ore-eclampsia were argued over during her labour. Shame the narrator hadn’t done her homework on both Sybil & Matthews medical conditions.

Oscar winner for Best Actress in Prime of Miss Jean Brodie as well as great performances in many known movies from the 60s through through present, the has had a brilliant career well before Harry Potter was ever written. Ashamedly, I am new to Downton Abbey. How did this jewel ever slip by me? I had never watched it until this past weekend when E Network ran a 24/7 marathon of seasons 1-6. I was curious what all the hubbub was about, so I watched, rapidly glued at every turn and cliffhanger, and now I AM HOOKED! After viewing all 6 series, I watched the first movie via On Demand, and now am going to watch the new movie this week at the theater.
Surprised Dame Maggie Smith felt anonymous, when hers was the only face I recognized. Violet is my favorite character throughout, but I have quickly grown fond of so many of the characters... rooting for their turning around to achieve true love and successes. What a fabulous series and superbness throughout! 💖💖💖💖💖 I am so excited to see the new movie, I am making a long distance drive just to see it. 🤗

My absolute favourite actress was Dame Maggie Smith ❤ her one liners are legendary and her character is one I think every family has one in the family be it an elderly Aunt or Grandmother..A lady of formidable stature and witt and of course wisdom.
My second favourite is Michelle Dochorty as Lady Mary. She is just perfect for the part and plays it to perfection with just the right amount of strength but lso with that vulnerability that endears her to us all. It was tragic the way her real life mirrored her character's life on screen 😪 💔

We watch downton abbey episodes periodically and love each and everyone of them; it would have been preferable if characters like Mathew Crawley had gone overseas to fulfill certain duties and obligations for a long period of time and then brought them back later to the drama series so we could enjoy seeing them again rather than killing them in the series. Maybe you can have an identical twin brother of Mathew be brought in the series or movie and bring out that Isobel hid that little secret. In that way Dan can return and Penelope can be happy again!
Please bring this classic elegant show back…. Thanks.

She played as Mother Superior on Sister Act 1 and 2
    Maggie from Nanny McPhee 2

I once saw Dame Maggie in the Fulham Road, London 1973 I think. She was tall, willowy, sported red hair cut twenties style, she said hello to my little daughter in her buggy.....I loved her in " The lady in the van" . Brilliant, brilliant actress to play such opposite roles to perfection!

Maggie Smith has been acting for decades. But even children know who she is thanks to her amazing performances in the Harry Potter films. And when referring to Sybil, do a little fact-checking. She was the daughter of an Earl, not a Duke. Those are different nobility positions.

Narration on this is absolutely appalling. Mispronunciation of everything from "impertinent" to "Gloucester," and the voice has strange intonations, and clearly has no clue about the actual show. The writer gets it all wrong as well: Hugh Bonneville, etc., were hardly lifted from obscurity by the show as implied here. Just dreadful. Couldn't make it to the five minute mark on this one.
