    They're meant to work as Fluo Speedpaints - Preferably over a white, and yes, they work well in an airbrush. We (The Army Painter) have a "Normal" fluo paints in our Air Range - These are effect paints and as such, they won't work as a normal opaque paint (That's why they're in the Effect section) - The "One coat solution" refers to how our Speedpaints work, and as mentioned, these fluos has the same properties.
    I'm sorry you expected something different.

      Thank you for the explanation.
      I will try taking a look at the air fluor paints.

    Thank you for this review. I've been looking quite a while for some good blue fluo, and it seems AP has made one

    Yeah I think they work best when using it with white ink, it just seems to color the white.

    These are technical paints to do things like osl and plasma glow type effects I can assure you that the fanatic paints I have tried so far are brilliant but I'm used to citadel paints and vallajo paints

    • @dicendemons
      @dicendemons  4 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, I know they're for effects, but I had hoped for a more versatile type of paint. I look forward to trying out a lot of the other Fanatic paints.

  • @Aisaaax
    @Aisaaax 2 місяці тому

    Yeah, the other fanatic paints are nice and thick and creamy.
    These are effect paints, and yeah they are supposed to be used as a filter either under neath a glaze or on top of your main color to give it some kick.
    I personally like them and think they get the job done for me

    So what do you recommend for the best company with fluorescent colors that you have already worked with? There is 1 technique I’m trying now!?! But if it works (because I’m not done) I could let you know if you really want?!?

    Great overview and thanks for that! I trust you for all things "fluorescent" (and many things "Contrast") so I figured you would give these the true and thorough testing they deserved. I think I will skip them because I have others that seem to do about as well as these. :) I am curious, have you even tried to mix your own fluorescent paints using pigments? I have been dabbling with this process and the results can be quite interesting. You have more control over vibrancy, finish etc. but it takes experimentation and I have not figured out the ideal recipe. I am trying the same for metallic pigments and those also have interesting results. Anyway...keep up the great, and fun, work.

    • @dicendemons
      @dicendemons  4 місяці тому +2

      Thank you!
      Yes, my first experiments with fluorescent paints were with pigments mixed with either other acrylic paints or just medium.
      They were perhaps a touch more vibrant than "ordinary" fluorescent paints and gave a lot of possibilities for variation.
      The downsides in my opinion were that I was not able to make the colors I mixed myself stay fluid for very long. A few days in a dropper bottle and they tended to separate and then the pigment dried out. So I had to make a new mix each painting session which was not very practical especially if I just needed a touch of something.
      The other downside was that I couldn't get it as smooth as ordinary paints. It wasn't a big issue for details and such but on a larger surface it looked a bit "fussy".
      But it was fun!

    Have you ever tried Liquitex fluorescents? I've got some from their Basics line, but haven't used them on minis very much, and have nothing to compare them to for coverage....

    • @dicendemons
      @dicendemons  4 місяці тому

      No, I have used some of their inks but not their fluorescents. Perhaps I should get just one or two to try them out.

    Hi, im new to your channel, first of all, thank you for all the Videos :) and i feel the same trouble to get some Paints in Europe, Did you tried Pro-Acryl? - maybe a try worth? :) best Wishes

    Emma, this has been my experience with my fluo paints. I have Vallejo Game and Model fluos as well as Green Stuff World. They are all pretty shit for regular brushing, which is why it's such a shame that no European shop has picked them up yet. There is a Russian brand, Jim Scale, who supposedly have very good and opaque fluo paints as well, but shipping is crazy expensive.

    • @dicendemons
      @dicendemons  4 місяці тому +1

      I have tried a few of the Vallejo ones a couple of years ago and they didn't work for me at all. Way too thin and didn't cover very well. I haven't tried the ones from GSW but if in your experience they are like the Vallejo ones, I'll give them a pass.
      Yeah, it's a shame there's no nice opaque fluo paints in Europe.
      If I could, I would have liked to sell the Huge Miniatures paints just to make sure they were available. Hopefully, some stores will pick them up.

    Hi, I just subscribed. What is the name of the fluos that you compared the fanatics to on the black base? I had a hard time hearing the name, as I'm not familiar with it. Thanks so much and I look forward to watching more of your videos! Have a nice day!

      They are from Huge Miniatures 😊

  • @FictionalCookie

    The reason they lack "body" and are translucent is becuse they lack pigment
    most fluorescent paint is dye based so there would be no pigment held in suspension
    the huge miniatures paint seems like it might have added white pigment in the paint, that would help with the coverage and give the paint more body at the cost of some of its ability to fluoress

    • @dicendemons
      @dicendemons  4 місяці тому

      I didn't know that. I assumed it was pigment since you can get fluorescent pigments many places 😊

    Arent these not traditional fluorescent paints? Werent they designed and advertised specifically for effects as technicals? That being the case this is a bad review

      Nope - the effect paints are unique, and the fluos are build with Speedpaint recipe. The air range has a different set of fluos.

    LOL knows it’s not a normal fluo paint but reviews it as one anyways. I swear some people should be allowed to have their own channel. I’ve used all but the yellow and they have exceeded my expectations when used for what they are designed for. Maybe next time try that and your “review” will be more respectable.

    • @tqk1976
      @tqk1976 3 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, I'm very confused by this review. "I was very disappointed at how badly these paints do things they're not designed to do like go over pure black or dark metal but if you use them for what they're intended, they work." It's like saying "these fish swam really fast but when I threw them in the air they didn't fly so I can't recommend them."
