Just made it, man that is delicious. Nuff respect! coming from the Bahamas. I love the way you put all these dishes together, it always ends up delicious and feels nice and clean
Haven't had this in yrs since my Brooklyn days, decided to make it and I'm happy I did. It came out amazing!! I didn't get a chance to get scallions and thyme but that's ok.
this man's recipes are absolutely divine I've cooked a lot of these and have served them to family and friends and allways get nothing but good comments and compliments on the dishes that they have eaten. I can't eat plain rice anymore . what can I say but the man can cook . the home made bbq sause is Devine it keeps in the fridge for a month and is so nice as a marinade for chicken .thanks you so much bro
This soup was a hit with my family! My mother even said I can make it anytime. Thanks Chris! A tip I learned for Gluten free spinner dumplings. I used Pillsbury Gluten free flour and the dumplings came out perfect! I used a 1/2 cup of water added little by little. As the flour was kneeled and mixed with water it begins to firm and becomes easier to make spinners.
When I have left over stewed red beans or any stewed beans or peas and I am lazy, I usually throw in some carrots, potatoes or whatever I have to make a quick soup without pigtails or dumplings. Thanks for the video.
looks yummy i am a Jamaican and i love that soup i am thinking of making some its winter now on the other side of the world bless up yourself caribbeanpot
Hello chef Chris. I just finished watching this video and went to the store and bought all the ingredient. It smell, taste, and looks sooooooo delicious. U r the best. Keep it coming. Thank you 😊
This is a nice interchangeable recipe! I thought the same thing...I'm not eating a pig tail...EVER!! But, I know I can make it vegetarian...the addition of thyme, allspice berries I will definitely incorporate in my bean cooking!
YEEEES!!!!! YOU FINALLY MADE IT!!!! That looks so delicious Chris!!! i just made red peas soup not to long ago off a recipe i found on yourtube, but yours look and NEVER fails to amazing me. thanks again and ill cook it next week.wee need some more soup recipes cause its getting cold and us caribeean people love soup in the winter. i cooked almost all your soup recipes and they were all fantastic. im looking forward to more recipes you have in store. hey maybe you can make a broccoli soup with your own twist. add some type of meat or maybe not. but il would love to see that Chris. Have a great day Chris!!!
Thanks again Chris for this video. Love your channel. always bring some many good childhood memories. 🥺😩 my mother used to make this soup it back in DR. she would put ham hock sweet potato or yellow plantains
I love red beans/peas but I recently switched to small pink beans because they cook quicker and come out very creamy. The last batch was awesome we did it cajun style with sausage. OMG you just made me hungry, that looks so good!!!!
starting getting cold here sure.... could use that now. I think the orange sweet yam could be a replacement for sweet potatoes it's way cheaper and tastes awesome in your soup you made. I love soup!!!!
Very cool, thanks. I have seen some bombers at air shows. I have seen the B-52 bombers in Texas. Most impressive, no doubt. Thanks for your take on this recipe!
Suggestion to anyone who wish to try this way of making this soup, add cubed pumpkin or squash for a richer texture, also, if u cant get your hands on pigstail (i sure as hell cant) u can also use that beef thing he talked about. I use both beef and chicken in mines
I added OKRA and more onions than the recipe called for. I also added Karella and celery.. Normally bitter but not in my soup. The coconut milk must have hidden it. Thumbs up Chris.
Delrose Brady you have to understand a lot of these things can’t be found everywhere, some are seasonal as well, so we have to substitute with the closest thing we can find... I’d kill for some curry goat right now, but I get lamb instead. It’s not the same, but really close if done right
ChildofGodFirst hella late on this but, it depends on the type of squash you use, if it’s the hard type add it from the beginning (I made the mistake adding it last and Jesus Christ it took forever to boil out)
Plus weh di scotch bonnet deh? No sah. I agree with you 100. We're Jamaican's & I guess every island got their different recipe on stew peas. Jamaica to di wuurl.
Hi Chris that soup looks very simple and that's what I like it also looks very delicious so I will be trying it out tomorrow thank u and keep up the good work
This is good 😊 but no meat as I just want veggies thank you so much for your advice and support ❤️💙 lots of love from London Lawrence Simon Anne Marie love the dumplings no Sait ok thanks
I’d just like say this soup came out amazing for me. I followed all the steps except for the meat carrots & allspice pepper seed. I’ve never tried scotch bonnet in my soup before but mmm-mmm what a zing it gave to the flavor. Thank you for sharing.
Ok so...(getting excited) if I add more potatoe, could I avoid the cigarette dumplings?? I don't dig dumplings?? I got some smoked hamhocks so my salt should be the right amount I think? After watching this (the first time) My husband (of 32 years) notice a giant smile on my face and said... "Oh oh... No more Chef Chris for YOU" ...haaaaa I said, Darlin, YOU WILL be SMILING TOO.. after you eat what he just showed me to make...haaaaaa THANK YOU!!!
Caribbean soups are very much like North American Stews.. full of body and comforting. Typically there would be more starchy ingredients - yams, sweet potatoes etc
I love the red peas but ohh gosh it does take long to burst......must soak it the day before or pressure cook it :-) :-) But otherwise I love you you break down everything and make it quite understandable for us viewers :-) :-)
Im curious as to why you tosed the water, i know you stated the reason behind it, but isnt that where the color comes from? Its always interesting watching your methods of cooking, it always differs from what im used to.
Do you know when the cookbook is going to be available again on amazon? I need this in my life. Most family lives in JA and I can't really get recipes as readily.
I don't like that way of preparing red peas Soup. NO PIG TAIL, THAT SHOULD NOT BE EATEN. The peas must be soaked and the water thrown away... u can't cook red peas Soup without sweet potatoes.... don't like his style of cooking

Just Beautiful! I will have to try w/o the pigtails though. Not eating meat!
Renee Rainey lol i never know stew peas could be nicer until i tasted it with pigtail
Andrew Smith watching my salt intake. Glad you enjoyed

holli perkins You can substitute beef, I've even used chicken and/or turkey.
mizzpoetrics i usually use a combination of ribs and snout. I don’t eat either but my family loves it!
Thank you for making cooking so simple as I have been diagnosed with hypertension lately and I am trying to eat healthy low sodium diet

Hi Cris, nice change, but you forgot the pumpkin. That will help to thicken up the soup plus add more flavor. Keep up the good work.
Health is my wealth it's "his take" for a reason.
I love your accent so much! Even if you made a video where you’re just reading out loud the classified ads, I would watch it 😂

Exactly! 😁
Plus weh di scotch bonnet deh? No sah. I agree with you 100. We're Jamaican's & I guess every island got their different recipe on stew peas. Jamaica to di wuurl.
"Stewed" peas or beans is the method used for cooking. So you can have stewed black eyed beans/peas, stewed pigeon peas, stewed red beans, etc.
How much of the coconut milk do you put? Do you have a ital recipe
