Yeah it’s out of control I wanted to build a garage but I ended up buying a steel building instead steal is on the rise now as well -just a few years ago you could get a 2 x 4 for a couple bucks

I built this design for a twin sized bed only made it cheaper but just as strong (the key is that the legs support all the weight) with 2x2's and 1x3's for slats/side trim and 2 2x4x8s for legs - 6 legs instead of 4 for extra support. I double bolted the legs on the sides and the ends to better hold them in place. It worked real good for a twin bed.

Very sound, logical design w/ the 4x4 legs UNDERNEATH -supporting the outer frame. I'm imagining just a few modifications and it can be designed to use a box spring with even fewer 2x3s.

Great design I love it!!
I would recommend putting some noggins down the centre of the joists to stop warping over time, if you plan to keep it for a while.

@@rachellestringer blockers I think they are called in America, just timber in between the joists to stop the timbers moving over time and just for extra strength
just made 2 of these, a bit more expensive 10-15 bucks more than the advertised price but i chose a bit more expensive 2x4. Probly could've found some cheaper bolts/screws but fuck digging thru home depot's messy layout. These things are incredibly sturdy. Thanks for the simple design!

Great video as I am about to make a Full size bed frame after watching this so thanks brothers. I wish you would of added in the description "How many 2X4's & 2X3's it took before they were cut two size" and the same for the 4x4's before they were cut to size. Add like $13 for blank # of 2X4's ya know which would be helpful for us first time builders. Again thanks

@@foscouni There's no need for a middle support its rock solid. But if you really needed the extra support I'd make 5 legs instead of 4
and use the 5th leg on the middle 2x3
2x4s are really strong one 2x4 by itself is strong enough for you to stand on when it's put in the way he did it.

Maybe but we went through a couple in two years and for what they cost they shouldn't break. That's when we decided to build something that's stronger and it cost a fraction of the price

buy a antique bedframe,with headboard & footboard,they def won,t break,like everything made in those days,it was well over-enginerd,& built to last
I recently bought an old bedframe...but want to add oak boards and slats for better support. Older bed frames were not designed for futon mattress only; these older frames relied on box spring too for support.

My room is a walk in room closet and my brothers is a master bed room with out a door tho guess who is the favorite child anyways since my room is small and my bed ofc takes up the room but my bed fits perfectly all the way against the back wall but my frame doesn’t fit and I’ll how to do this myself because my brother takes forever doing things soooo I’ll tell you how it goes. Why did you put the slats sideways
When the 2x3's are flat. they bend. When you put them this way they are incredibly strong and do not bend.

Hi, i saw that the 2x3 support rails are flash with the frame, did the mattress stayed in its place not moving?
yes it's heavy enough but you can always wrap a 1x6 around to keep your mattress boxed in

You’d have to change the design just a bit. Your pieces going across would need to be closer together so your bed doesn’t start sagging in the gaps.

You could put some plywood on top of the frame. That's what I'm planning to do. With no box spring I'm sure you'd feel those 2x4s in your back. I'm gonna make the plywood sit flush with the tops of the 2x4s so you don't see it

That's a good question it was 4 years ago. I wish I would've put that in the video I do remember I measured from the floor to the top of the bedframe that we were replacing 14" if I remember correctly.

Not a bad frame for a cabin in the woods, but for a modern home? Seems rather crude and hard to move. Bed frames should always be easy to tear down and re-assembe. This one isn't.

This bed is a Full. A king-size mattress dimensions are 76 inches wide by approximately 80 inches long - about 16 inches wider than a queen. A queen is 7 inches wider and 5 inches longer than a full-size mattress.

No head board - This is a basic build to replace a bed frame but after framing out simply attach it using (2)2x3's

This design is for a full. If you want a full size bed I'd google the dimensions and subtract 1 1/2" for every 2x3. Your sandwiching all the support boards between (2) 2x3's which amounts to 3". Subtract 3" from the the width and you'll have your width to cut. You can get your dimensions that way. This was a long time ago I can't remember or I'd share that with you.

I didn't buy them all at once. You can always try to borrow some tools from someone. I try to make it a goal to buy one new tool every year. Ryobi tools are the least expensive tools that will work well for you(No, I don't work for Ryobi). You're either investing in a few tools that will enable future products ( which is an investment that pays dividends for life) or choosing to make payments over and over...
You said you have a hammer and a drill. All you need to borrow is a circular saw and oscillator.

You can make the cuts with a hand saw if you don't want to spend too much on tools, probably won't get the straightest cuts though. But if you're a diyer you might as well get the circular saw as it'll come in handy on future builds. I'd even pony up for a portable table saw as that will usually be even better at nice square cuts
Bed frames are like $10 at the thrift store $30 at a bed store.

Everywhere but the thrift store. Anything bed related I like to go new. Bed bugs are a very real thing these days. When we were kids getting tucked in My Dad would say" don't let the bed bugs bite." We didn't know 35 years later they'd be real. I used to work on a crew specializing in housing for MSU students and we seen a lot of it. Young kids trying to save money and buying used beds. I felt so bad for them when I had to give them the bad news because it's pricey to fix. They have to heat up the entire room. I witnessed a few nightmares come true. They only stick to fabric so the metal frames should be good. Good luck.

People from foreign countries bring them in on planes and ships and they've moved into movie theaters and other venues. It sucks because in their culture its just something you live with but its only been in the united states for 10-20 years. they're horrible little things. They're worth a google.

Ryobi is very inexpensive. You can buy their table saw and power washer for that. And I recommend them both.
Everything is overpriced nowadays cause americans are too lazy to do things themselves they would rather pay someone to do it, if more people started creating the things they want to buy, things would be alot more affordable
