THE FINEST DETAIL I noticed is where you signed & dated the project and where it was built! My Daddy “ran on ahead of me” 23 years ago & most or all of his creations or upgrades before he passed away, he signed and dated! The simplest things now with my Dad’s signature & dates written on them are my most prized possessions to this day!!! One of my sons lives in Central, La., and we have adopted that practice early on about signing & dating things…… the years fly by but seeing those brings us right back to the time & place each item was done!!! Great form !

This is for a queen size bed 60" x 80"
Also, we're getting a lot of comments about the price of lumber. We put this video out before the Pandemic and at this time the price was right! We know...lumber prices are crippling right now and everyone's feeling it. Hang in there gang!

So if I was going to do a king sized bed 76” x 80” would I take your 65” measurements to 76+5, which is 81” to get the same kind of set up. Or am I not doing that right because your bed is 60” but your measurements are 65”

When I stain wood and even with heavy grain such as oak, I use gel stain mixed with the reg stain (Usually to get my desired color) Add mineral spirits to my sponge brush and slowly glide it on for no bubbles. The mineral spirit will cause it to lay flat, yet goes on thick for coverage. Then I poly it also with 2-3 coats with some mineral spirits on my sponge. Me and the hubs made a frame for our bathroom mirror and i stained it. Looks professional.

Yes, there’re some people who are like that, and didn’t get into the wrong side of that statement, but most of the people who say that are overly good people to the point it makes them a bad person. For example, imagine if that person had a kid, they were eating and the kid didn’t like the food. They tell their kid “there’re starving people out there who would love to have that food. So eat it right now and don’t waste it”. Yes, there’re starving people out there, and it’s sad, but they’re not you. I was watching a video once, where some guy saw a meme about this exact situation, and he mocked the people who say that by saying “haha, remember, just because there’re people who have it worse than you, means that you’re never, ever allowed to feel uncomfortable or that you’re in a bad place”, and he’s right

Love the build, I think the star was the square and it's utility in the hands of an experienced tradesman. Pocket holes done earlier and the assembly sanded after piece sanding could have the miter outer corner neatened up and micro rounded for ankle protection. Some discrete rubber pad feet would stop any rocking on an unevenly tiled floor and for tech level masters a hidden induction charger installed from the bottom of the capping board would allow for a phone to be placed there and charge while you sleep.

Nice build guys. Im going to build the exact same thing but, for the exposed boards im going to wire wheel the soft grain out so it gives an aged/barn wood look to the stained timber. Thanks for being so detailed in the cuts and assembly.. that will definitely will save me some time. Awesome to see 2 generations of craftsmanship working together. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.

The enthusiasm of the young man and the smile of the father to him, just precious! Now, the project: nice bed and easy to follow instructions; it looks great! The one thing that totally does not match the craftsmanship of the bed making is those lights … you guys need to watch some LED lights installations and best way to hide the lights and just let the glow be the star of the show. Best of luck to you both!

Guys thank you so much... just made a king frame using these instructions. I was able to do all this with just a Drill and wood cut to size at the home depot.
Few things I learnt on the project
    1. Home depot wood advertised as 2 inch thick is only 1.5 inch thick (Messed up my calculations fixed it with some patch work)
    2. Could live with 3 pieces of wood as lip without cutting them at 45°
