  • I wasn't expecting the wind to pick up as much as it did this day, but that Old Town Sportsman PDL 106 took care of me for sure. I finally managed to get a bass in the big lake! Time on the water pays off, right? Hopefully I'll be able to catch limits out there and figure out those fish more consistently haha... until then, I've got a lot to learn and I'm enjoying the adventure thus far! Say what's up down below. Thanks for stopping by and joining me.
    God is good. Ya'll be blessed. Later!

    I watched your video to evaluate the Old Towne PDL performance on choppy water. That boat handled it with ease. You got bounced a bit but it handled it without it getting sketchy. Thanks for posting as this is the yak I’m going for. I used to be a whitewater kayaker so I come with experience on rough water and fishing in hairy situations.. As for fishing. I used to fish out of a tiny sport kayak in whitewater. Yes, it’s possible to do both once your through the worst. No fish finder, nothing, just years of experience on whitewater. Have never caught less than 5 once I understood fish behavior. If you’re not catching, switch lures and fish structure and find calmer, shallower water. Fishing in rough water, they prefer calmer eddys and stay closer to the shore. They typically don’t go deep because of oxygen issues. They fight the current as much as you do. Go with the current. Never fish into the current unless there’s large structure they can tuck behind for relief. Those bass were likely tucked into the weed line and ambush out from it. Use a lure you can drag ALONG the weed line Or focus behind the tree stumps, taking relief behind the tree stump with the current to catch what comes into them. And find the largest tree stump, not skinny ones. Just some tips and hope it helps. Good luck.

      Wow. Thanks for the information, it most definitely helps a ton. That’s a ton of good info to absorb and practice next time I’m out there!
      Yeah, the kayak is super stable. I’m uploading another video tomorrow with stronger winds and more chop (20 sustained, 30 and up gusts). The kayak got me back to launch safely. I was definitely soggy, but I was safe and had all my gear.
      Thanks for all the info. I appreciate you taking the time to share it! Tight lines! Enjoy the PDL!

    This is so relatable, all day fishing, and 1 fish in the yak!😅

      LOL... yep. I feel the pain! And then I hear stories of folk in a boat catching 20+ on the same lake. I'll figure them out more consistently eventually lol. Thanks for watching!

      No prob! I’ve heard some guys out in a little more choppy conditions than here and they were also good. The kayak definitely took care of me that day, especially when I made those big cross lake moves.

    I'm pretty much only a shallow water fisherman. I like water that is 2' to 5' in depth and I only fish cover / structure. I caught a 18.75 bass last week in about 18 inches of water on Texas rig Yum Dinger. I have my first tournament this weekend and I'm excited for sure! Good video.

      Thank you! Good luck with your tournament! Make sure to charge everything so you can cover the whole day haha.
      I want to expand my knowledge and get those 15’ + fish. I think I’ll always start off shallow in the mornings. Thanks for swinging by!

    Good looking kayak, I love that color!!!
    So how do you like that OYNX Lifejacket with the Old Town seat?
    Is it too bulky, does it rise up and hit you in the back of your neck?
    I was going to order one off of Amazon, but I was scared so I ended up biting the bullet in ordered in NRS Raku, it should be here this week….
    Thank you

    • @thatfishingnoob
      @thatfishingnoob  21 день тому

      Thanks! The kayak is definitely fun to fish out of, and I still think Photic is the best color for it.
      I like the PFD. Mine rides up a little bit, but I don't notice it and I don't adjust it throughout the day. I wear a neck gaiter and a hat, so if it does ride up I can't feel it hitting my neck. It's not noticeable though and the longest I've been on the water is 8 hours so far. It's worlds better than my old PFD that wasn't high rise.
      The Raku should be pretty good too. The back foam isn't too think, so it shouldn't be that noticeable when you're out on the water. If I upgrade PFD's later, it'll be another high rise though. I'm used to having nothing on the bottom half of my back now haha.
      Tight lines!

    That spot with all the submerged trees looked juicy. Didn't GB fish a lake in Texas a couple of years ago with submerged trees? Is that Lake Fork?

    • @thatfishingnoob
      @thatfishingnoob  4 місяці тому

      I’ll fish Lake Fork one day 😂. Maybe during summer one time when I can bring the whole family out.
      I did hit GB up for next time he fished Sam Rayburn or Lake Fork though. It would be EPIC to fish with him haha.

    I'm relatively new to kayak fishing, too, and can't wait to upgrade my electronics and get a trolling motor setup.. love fishing big lakes like this but paddling my SS127 anything more than a mile freaking sucks

    • @thatfishingnoob
      @thatfishingnoob  4 місяці тому

      I hear that - the most I paddled with my other yak was maybe 2.4 miles and that was a pain. I was definitely tired after that and didn’t want to load anything up lol.

    Not sure if I asked on the last video but my business partner jumped the gun and bought Hodoo 12 foot pedal kayaks,
    And I’ve seen mixed reviews. Should I be worried?

    • @thatfishingnoob
      @thatfishingnoob  4 місяці тому

      I’ve also seen mixed reviews, but a lot are happy with theirs that I’ve seen.
      If it’s within budget and works for your business partner, it’s not a bad vessel.

    Those exact reasons is the only reasons I would add electronics. If it's a tournament and I'm unfamiliar with the lake, or just a tournament in general just to kind of even the odds. Otherwise I just stick with my instincts man feel it out it's better that way. I mean think about it what happens if the network crashes? No electronics all the sudden. It's better to know your instinct and trust your instinct other than rely on something that could possibly be designed to fail

    • @thatfishingnoob
      @thatfishingnoob  4 місяці тому

      That’s really smart - I enjoy instinctively fishing and think that’s a great tool to have as well. I’m hoping electronics will help expand my fishing knowledge so my “instincts” can be sharper. When all else fails, I’ll look for those birds to guide me to baitfish haha. They’re better fisher…birds than I am.

    10:43 so if it were me, I would stop fishing for a second look around, look for predatorial birds either up in a tree in an area or on the bank and then I would go in that direction and look for that. If I'm new to a body of water that's one of the first things I look for is signs of life. If you don't see signs of life even if it seems fishy as hell, just move on

    • @thatfishingnoob
      @thatfishingnoob  4 місяці тому

      I tried to target those areas and fish them pretty hard; it got pretty difficult to fish efficiently when the wind picked up haha. I could have changed up my baits more though, for sure. Different presentations and lures.
