The secret is out 🤫😊
Love you guys 🙏🏼😂
MMmmmm very clever... I love the Tilta Mirage, such a flexible matte box and easy to use system. I'll definitely be trying this technique to minimize color casting and x-patterns.
Love your content bro! Short and packed with information whilst still being entertaining! Great work
Thank you 🙏🏼
Dope video man. Love the aesthetic, simplicity and of course, content covered. Appreciate it!
Thanks for the feedback 🙏🏼✌🏼
Mind blown! Quick and straight to the point
Happy to hear that ✌🏼
Amazing, thanks for sharing!
Dude what a solid video!!🔥 Short and sweet, kinda speechless tbh hahah

Just watched your Vane 40mm video dude...I was surprised to see you below 2K subs. I cannot wait to see you at 1 Million dude, you have such a quality and taste that other creators don't. Beautiful work.
Thanks so much! Comments like this really keep me putting all the work in these kinda videos, so I really appreciate it a lot! Thank you for your support! There’ll be another video coming real soon where I talk about my grading process.
Thanks for casually saving me 130 bucks and explaining it within 2 minutes and 30 seconds

Thank you, that’s great to hear! ✌🏼
That deserves a sub :)
Appreciate it 🙏🏼
amazing idea
Thanks ✌🏼
Wow, I’m not sure if I’d have thought to use the vnd like that!
That’s great to know lol
I have a different brand matte box, but it should work the same way
yep, as long as it’s variable, any ND should work ✌🏼
Such a fire intro!
Thanks 🔥
Wow, such a good tip!
Happy to help 🤌🏼
Holy hell..... This just saved me some money for a shoot through the windshield of a car. Quick, simple, and genius!
Thanks for the feedback, happy to hear that ✌🏼
)))))) Brilliant!!!! )) Although it works only when mounted directly onto the lens with the proper ring and it doesn't work when mounted on the support this is is an awesome feature! )
Oh wow thank you!
Thank YOU! ✌🏼
Freakin love that. So simple 😂👍
Thanks 😂🙏🏼
lol that was nice... dope video 🤝
Thank you ✌🏼
Damn dude. That's tight!
🤌🏼
THANK YOU for making such a "on point" video! You took the problem with VND filters and transformed it from a bug to a feature, saving people time and money. Well done.
Thanks so much, it’s great that so many people find this video so helpful 🔥
The 100th comment on your video, and this secret is amazing . Your video went straight to the point. Love it. 🥰
Thank you 🙏🏼💪🏼
Aha, that’s a cool trick.
I find the Vaxis IRND filters for the Mirage avoid the nasty red tone in the shadows, but this trick may convince me to start using the VND filter again.
hi morty! is it possible to use the vnd filter + a effect filter like black mist with the tilta mirage vnd kit @369$? or do you need to buy an additional filter tray? thank you very much for your great work
If you get a 4x5.65 pro mist filter you can add it to the front without any additional accessories ✌🏼
Thanks for saving me some money
I’m happy I could help 🤙🏼
So theoretically you could also just put one Square Polarizer in the front of the Mattebox and one round Polarizer instead of the ND Filter and turn that, right?
Yeah, exactly. I guess the quality of ND will be even worse though as it’s not designed to be used like that, bit yeah should work. Let me know if you try it, would love to see the result 🤌🏼
the camera in the set, where did you put the polarize? A circle one on the lens or a square one on the mattebox ?
I didn’t use a polarizer at all, the point of the video was to show that you don’t need one if you have a variable ND filter.
I'll be honest I skipped the intro, but you saved me some money. Take my sub.
Thanks for your feedback 🙏🏼
Wont work w dji lidar .How you avoid x pattern on the vnd?Thank You
That’s true, I don’t really experience any noticeable x pattern with my Mirage, but if you do, I would just avoid turning it all the way up
Great idea.THANK YOU
You're a genius dude. Thank you! Just bought my first Mirage Matte box-- do you know how to use square filters with the MIrage system>
Thanks 🙏🏼
You can drop in 4x5.65 rectangular filters right in the front of the Mattebox. If you want to use 4x4 filters, it looks like this Adapter will allow you to do so:

@@MortyFilms Wow thanks for taking the time to reply. I thought it was odd that Tilta doesn't make one of these themselves for the Mirage lineup =)
@@mattalber yeah it is, let me know if it works ✌🏼
@@MortyFilms totally works!
@@mattalber Awesome, thanks for letting me know ✌🏼
Thankyou
Great tip Morty! Would you still go with the Eiger instead of the Mirage for now?
It kinda depends on what I’m trying to do. The Eiger is great for better color accuracy and the option to use a gradient filter. But I still mostly use the Mirage, just because it’s VND has more range and I am using a Color Checker for accurate colors anyway.
Good point,@@MortyFilms ! Yeah, I am leaning towards getting the Mirage. What I don't see is a variety of effect filters, at least on their website. I would like some effect filters like the blue "anamorphic" style filter for this one tho!
they do have quite a lot of filters actually, just look at Vaxis 95mm effect filters, they are made in collaboration with Tilta for the mirage. Also, Tilta just announced a new line for the mirage: the Illusion Filters. Here’s the one you’re looking for:

You are the best @@MortyFilms ! Thank you so much!
They should add a second adjustment wheel, so that you can rotate both polarizers at the same time.
Actually a really good idea.
Wow
HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!
😂 appreciate it, there’s more on the way, next video coming tomorrow actually and then another one in the works right now 🤙🏼
I like your style
Thanks mate 🤙🏼
Damn you just changed the game with this one ngl
🙏🏼 thanks
@tilta Now make a rotating VND filter for the killer combo and you got a winner slide in.
All you have to do is _tilt_ the tilta mirage with the vnd? Marketing could have a field day with that one lol
ha ha, true
song in intro and outro??
It’s Interstate Swangin‘ by Scootie Wop on Artlist.io
Fuck man I'm subscribing based on this video! Good work!
Thanks man! Appreciate it ✌🏼
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Well, Thank youu! haha
The way it just ended… was like… is this a joke?
amazing. Only issue would be if you're using a flag on the mattebox to block out ray of lights
Yeah, well, I guess you can’t have it all
You wouldn't happen to have any of the fixed ND filters? Try stacking the CPL and ND and you should have a multi-stop variable solution that you can adjust the bottom/top limits of by changing the fixed ND used. Can't remember off-hand if the fixed ND needs to be behind or in-front of the CPL though, just needs some testing. (A CPL gets you around the same as an ND0.5, so add maybe a fixed ND1.5 for a decent range)
I’m not really sure if I get your point, the main purpose if the video was to showcase how you can get around changing fixed NDs and even getting a separate CPL by just using the VND.
@@MortyFilms Sorry 😅 I was asking to see if you had the parts to compare this against an ND/CPL stack. Because the VND is Dual CPL (?), It can lead to not just a fixed wb shift but an inconsistent amount of shift across the frame because of how the polarisers interact depending on your angle to the reflected light on a set. So while using wb/tint can fix the problem area, it can skew a part of the image less effected. Which is why 4x5s NDs are still used professionally. My wonder though, was if you instead used a fixed ND and CPL stack, could you get much more uniform colours compared to the VND insert? 🤔
@@_burd ahhhh, I see 😂
Yeah, I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it would be a very interesting test actually.
Just saved me $
That intro was something I barely see around here! damn.
appreciate it 🙏🏼
Great tip, although color cast of Tilta VND is horrendous :(
Yeah, but as I said, it’s lucky consistent across all stops, so pretty easy to just set the whitebalance with it on :)
@@MortyFilms You are absolutely right. With BRAW you can actully fix this in post. But I guess better approach is to use WB card and set WB in camera and save it as a preset. That way you can switch between VND and no VND preset quite fast.
Tilta VND seems to have cool color cast.
But Peter McKinnon one got a warm color cast.
Vaxis seems to be most neutral from the ones I've tested and the color cast is the smallest (but they are not VNDs :)).
@@JoATTech Yes, exactly! I mean It would be good to even set white balance all the time as even different lenses have different color casts.
@@JoATTech vnd always has more color tint than fixed nd.
correct
welp I need to return my CPL haha
😂
❤🧠🙏🏻
🤌🏼
if it was 1 minute shorter i would sub ....nahhhh i m kidding.... keep making short and good videos mate :)
Haha thanks Mike ✌🏼😂
Video Starts at 00:41
