  • This video is a list of 6 pros and cons of working a ski season at a ski resort.
    The majority of what I am talking about is a generalization of working a ski season, but it is based off of my own experience at a ski resort in the United States.

    #1 priority at any ski resort I've worked at is Safety Safety Safety.
    That being said; it is very relaxed atmosphere 😌

    Sabrina, thanks for the helpful video! I am thinking of working at a ski resort this season. I would be going completely by myself, not knowing anyone. Did you go with people you knew? Is it tough to make friends?

      Hi Dan!
      When I worked a ski season, I did go with someone I knew.
      But I will say, for all the other seasonal jobs I have done, I usually go by myself and there are many opportunities to make friends.
      In general, you will make friends who you work with and can plan to go ski or into town with them on your off days. From time with them you will meet other people, or attend events and such.
      There are also apps you can use to make friends these days, which can be helpful! Or websites like "Meet up" where you can meet up with people in public locations for events you are interested in!
      It can be a bit nerve wracking at first, and may take some time to make friends. But don't let that slow you down! You will defiantly have opportunities to do so!

    Can you do a video on indoor or hotel jobs, but not food&beverage, that one is pretty clear.

      Hi- are you looking for seasonal indoor jobs in general or specifically for a ski resort?

    Hey! I am looking for a ski job, hotels or front desk...I don’t have a snowboard because I would rent them out when I went. Should I look into a used board or rent ??? I have shoes , clothes and all.

    • @theworkingexpat
      @theworkingexpat  2 роки тому +1

      Hi!
      Okay, so please keep in mind that I do not snowboard, but here is some info that may help with your decision…
      As someone doing hotel or front desk, it is possible you would have a chance to get a free rental once or twice- not enough for what you are looking for, but if possible you could use this opportunity to try on different boards and see what you like before purchasing anything.
      It is also VERY possible that you may find a friend that has an extra board they will lend you for the season. I had a friend who had a board too small for her so she offered to let me use it for free or buy it from her if i wanted to keep it.
      Depending on where you are working, you will probably get a discount at different stores or shops in or around the resort- but you need to start your job before that kicks in I believe- so I would personally wait till I started working to save some money. There may also be a ton of used stores in your ski town that you can checkout- Montana had SO many.
      Honestly if you are going to be taking lots of ski breaks, are working the entire season and already know you love it- I say get one you love to make the season worth it to you. But thats just my opinion.
      Good luck with your ski season and you snowboard decision! :)

    Hii, I want to go to big sky this winter season. How can I get a job on the mountain? As a Ski instructor or patrol? What you recommend?

    • @theworkingexpat
      @theworkingexpat  3 роки тому

      Hi!
      You can apply directly with them on their website. Go to their website and go under the employment section (if you go all the way to the bottom of the home page its in those links.) This will bring you to their resorts page with the listing of job openings. Click the one you want and start the application process.
      You are able to apply to more than one job to work with them and I suggest applying for both if you cant decide.
      I did not have any close connections with the ski instructors or ski patrol, and have not worked those jobs.
      From what I do know about both of those roles is that you do get a good amount of time to do a lot of skiing (since its basically your job). Both positions deal with guests and are up on the mountain a lot.
      I will say that it looked like ski patrol enjoyed their job more (but seemed to work early and longer hours) and the ski instructors tended to get frustrated easily because they teach a lot of beginner lessons.
      However, that is only what I saw since I was in the mountain services department. Sorry I couldn't be more help on that front.
      Good luck with your application and your ski season!

    Hi Sabrina! ☺
    If possible to get extra hours in the resort for gain more money? Or maybe search another job in Bozeman?

    • @theworkingexpat
      @theworkingexpat  2 роки тому

      Hi!
      From my experience, when it comes to extra hours, it completely depends on your job. I worked in activities/tickets and we were not able to work overtime unless absolutely needed. However, I had a friend who worked in snow removal/parking and he worked TONS of overtime. So I believe it is up to your department and how many workers they have at the time.
      You can work another job and lots of people do it! Bozeman is an option but if you live up on the mountain I suggest checking out the Town Center and the surrounding areas- I had a few friends that had a second job in this location and it made it easier to head to their second job after their shift at the resort because it was closer.
      Good Luck! :)

    Is it possible to do college online while working at one

    • @theworkingexpat
      @theworkingexpat  3 роки тому

      HI- I believe it is defiantly possible and I worked with people who have done it. It all depends on how much the work load is for your classes/school and your work schedule at your resort. As long as you plan it right it should work out fine.
      My roommates took 2 courses in the evening and did her homework in her free time and it worked out just fine.

    How are newcomers/beginner skiers treated by others??

    • @theworkingexpat
      @theworkingexpat  Рік тому +1

      Hi! Personally I felt like everyone was very welcoming and more than excited to give tips to new skiers. I don’t think I met many people working at my resort that were super exclusive.
      Of course, people are different everywhere you go and you may meet some people who are less than welcoming- but I think the majority of people who live the lifestyle are super laid back and welcoming.

    Is Montana still a free state? Do you have the freedoms to choice whether or not you take a shot or cover your mouth and nose? Don't want to go all the way out there and have to deal with that nonsense. Looks like a dream otherwise. Great video

      Hi- I am honestly not sure. When I was there the resort had all the mask policies in place. However I’ve been living out east and down south since so I am not sure where they are at now.

      Montana is the only state to ban private employer vax mandates. There are no free states, because that would include sheriff's aresting beaurocrats for mask.mandates. but Montana is the best place in the USA, and possibly earth.
