I was thinking about getting the ninja 400 as my first bike yet the only problem is i'm rather short (5,6) do you think this will be good for me or would you recomend an other bike?
I agree with many of the points you've made! I rushed to get a supersport after finishing University and settled on the zx6r and I loved it but between relocating and not having much time to ride it, I sold it and eventually moved to Japan. I bought the Ninja400 in 2020 after not having ridden a motorcycle for 6-7 years. I commuted for 2 whole years on it and took it to the mountain twisties pretty much every weekend with decent weather and it's just a all around great bike. The Ninja 400 is pretty popular so there are plenty of mods available for it to make it your own. After I stopped commuting with it (WFH) I gave the bike more sport ergonomics with higher footpegs, higher seat, racing rear-shock and aftermarket clip-ons and it rides fantastic in the twisties. The only reason I may give up the Ninja 400 would be to purchase the new zx4rr coming out in Autumn of 2023 in Japan.
Agree with all your points. I'm 37 and first got into riding in my mid 20s. Have had bigger bikes before but got a Ninja 400 a year ago and love it! If I find myself thinking I want something more powerful, I go for a ride and am reminded of just how fun and easy to ride it is.
I love the riding position. I could go for a few hours and not having back pain. it has enough power to entertain me. I recently tried out my friend's rs660, 10 minutes in I just gave up, it was fast and fun but the riding position was so uncomfortable.
I just picked up my new 2023 today. I started riding at 14 on a Bridgstone 90. I'm 71 now and after having 250's,350's,450's,650's and 1000 I'm thrilled to still be on two wheels and able to enjoy a 400. Looks to me like it's not just a beginners bike as some would call it.
I am 48 years old 5ft 9inch and I love my 2018 Ninja 400 KRT ABS. Even do a little light touring on it around the UK with little discomfort. It's more than enough for any casual rider. I have owned bigger bikes (I currently have a R7 in the USA) and Ninja 400 is plenty powerful enough for a bit of affordable fun. I have hit 112 mph in 5th, so it should be good for at least 120 in 6th if given enough room.
I got a 2023 ninja 400 from Lake City Powersports 2-3 weeks ago in matte blue with orange highlights. It’s my first bike and I have been loving every second. Seeing videos like these does confirm my theory that is just a such a wonderful bike. There were also some really good insights here, I didn’t even notice how light the clutch was until you mentioned it especially when compared to the honda rebel I was riding in the LTR course

Don't sell it or trade in when you feel you've "outgrown" it. For street, I've owned various years of ZX6R almost exclusively, and each generation is less comfortable than the last. I currently have the '21 model and am seriously considering a Ninja 400 as a second, more mellow ans comfortable bike. Then again, I also want a dualsport such as DRZ400, or find an ancient ZX9R (VERY comfortable, yet stout).

I envy you for having a bike at 18. At that age, I was working my ass off and couldn't even afford a phone. I guess some people are just lucky to be born in situations that favor them. Some kids are born into poverty but receive immediate prosperity, luck, or great opportunities. If I had been given the same opportunity back then, I might have had my own car and house by now. I was told to focus on studying instead of starting my own business. However, I don't regret my life because I now own a small piece of land (which I paid for recently). I just wish I had achieved it at an earlier age so that I could have worked hard and enjoyed it even more. I now have a family of my own that needs support, so buying a bike is a difficult task at my age of 34. To anyone reading this, when an opportunity presents itself, grab it! Don't waste it. It's better to pursue what you think will bring you the greatest life. If not, at least you tried, and you're still young enough to try again and again until you find the right one.
I'm still debating between the ninja 400 or the 2nd gen sv650 as my first bike. Well, until then I'll have to get my license which takes some time here in europe and I also don't have much time to spare because I'm finishing up uni. Until then I'll just be watching videos like this one lol.
I pick up smashed bikes from the auctions to fix up for the road, especially the learner size under 500cc, have owned quite a few now. Of all them, the Ninja 400 is my favourite, also for repairs it’s one of the easiest to fix. The fairing is a good size, the clutch is almost too light, will eat alive a R3 at any speed too, about even in acceleration with a heavier CBR500. The R3, the earlier 14 to 17 and 18 + has a very complicated fairing and is a bitch to fix, trying to identify what parts needed at the parts counter not easy as well due to Yamahas parts diagrams being below par in my opinion. Wish the Ninja had upside down forks and a 270 degree crank like the MT07/R7, then it would be perfect.
Lots of great points! What’re your thoughts on the ZX-4R? I think they kept a lot of great features of the ninja 400 with a nice bit of upgrades. The price is just a little steep in my opinion but would you ever consider one? I’ve owned two 400’s my current one is the same model as yours (though I kept the color shifting decals lol). I love the 400 more than my zx6r I had before. Especially comfortable as my first bike was a Ninja 300 many years ago.
Zx4r is an awesome bike, it's just designed for the track. I don't track so I probably wouldn't buy one. I prefer a more upright seating position for hwy commutes and longer rides so I'm not a fan of bikes where the seats pitch you forward. Agreed price is a little steep at 10k. At that point I'd probably pick up a cbr650r or even a aprilia 660 for another thousand.
Nice bike! I'm going to get the same color way in a couple weeks. I'm an experienced rider as well. I had a 2004 Honda cbr 600rr, didn't like it. Had a 2017 ninja 300 and it was comfortable, but lacked top end power. I had a kawasaki Vulcan S a few years backand it was comfortable but i am not a cruiser guy. I think that the 400 resolved a lot of the issues I had with the 300 from what I've been watching on youtube. I plan on going all out TST Industries lighting. I forgot about Corbin seats. Is it still comfortable or getting more comfortable with time in the saddle?

Did you upgrade the front tire? I'm asking because i went up on my rear tire to 160/17 and i love it but was curious if it would make a difference if i went from 110 to 120 front to even it out . So far i have had a ECU Flash, Air Velocity Stack, K@N Air Filter, and a Akro Full Exhaust System. I love the increase in power

The 300 was nearly perfect. The 400 should be perfect amount of price, speed, and comfortability. Easy on the arthritis according to my dad on his 300 when he had it. I don't suspect the 400 would be much worse on your body than the 300. The parallel twin 300 I've read online there are 80+ year Olds riding them because they have such small amounts of vibration produced compared to bigger and V twins, etc.
66 and moved down from FireBlade as it was too powerful, uncomfortable and for me now too heavy at 205kilo. The Ninja 400 is brilliant ample power 100mph without difficulty and very lightweight 168kilo easy to move around the garage.
I will never go back.. had a 650cc moped (ninja) and then got a fz1 before i got an s1k... just dont be a fool and dont be scared and you will have infinite more fun on a 1000... the 400 you will surely outgrow in about 3 months.. idk if its just me or what but they are doggg slow..
There's a pre threaded hole already on the bike. It's covered by a rubber/plastic cover on the left handle. Fits a m10×1.25 bolt/ball so you can install a Ram shorty arm with either a Rokform or Quadlock ball mount on the other end. I thought that about the Ninja 400 UNTIL I rode the new CFMoto 450ss - that’s in a completely different league and sets the bar super high for other MFG’s in this category. Just rode one at Daytona bike week right after riding the 2023 ninja 400. CFmoto 450 SS has a 270 crank sounds like a GP bike, no vibrations, brembo brakes, 50hp, super slick transmission and slipper clutch, amazing high performance suspension, high quality controls, Color digital dash and super light weight. I was floored how good it is - this is coming from a very experienced rider and a 2 year warranty.

When I am on my R7, I find myself day dreaming about my Ninja 400.... It is so much more forgiving and pleasant to ride.

Loving the Corbin, it's awesome and feels great now that it's broken in.

Definitely not too old. I know a few people even older than you that ride the 400. It's a very comfortable and lightweight bike.
