2023 Kawasaki Ninja 400: My Review After 1,000 Miles

  • After a lot of deliberation, I purchased a 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 400 to serve as a second motorcycle. My plan was to use it for short trips on Pennsylvania Back Roads with some light commuting mixed in.
I've ridden my Kawasaki EX400 (Ninja 400) for over 1,000 Miles, and I think it makes for a fantastic motorcycle - for new and experienced riders alike.

Just know you'll need to swap that clutch pretty short into its life. Do NOT replace/get it replaced with an OEM setup.

I've just traded in my 2019 Z650 for a 2023 Ninja 400. Totally loved my Z but, it was starting to get a bit heavy for me when manually moving it. Took delivery of the Ninja today, and took her out on her maiden voyage, 60 miles and MPG was at 73. Extremely happy with my decision. Happy riding!

I've ridden bikes since the early 80's from Japanese cruisers to Honda Interceptors, to Honda Hurricanes, and Harley's and just went back to sport bikes Oct. 14th. I'm 55 and don't need a current crotch-rocket to enjoy biking anymore. I just want to be among my biking brothers and sisters and enjoy the ride at any speed. Ride safe everyone!!!

The Ninja 400 is the best of both worlds: enough power to have fun when you really wind out the gears, but extremely fuel efficient if you're just cruising in 6th gear on the highway.

The Ninja 400's are a fun bike to ride and a very solid engine that is happy to be revved. You are 40 years old, man I'm over 60 with my primary bike been a ZX 14-R with a second bike an M 109-R and I find the big Ninja a breeze to just glide that beast around it is so effortless it makes riding very relaxing. When i feel like I getting to old for the bigger bikes my choice will be the new Z900's . Good video and thoughts on the 400 very fair all up I think and thumbs up man.

Just doing some drywalling and had this playing, really useful and for someone riding in London(UK) the high beam flash opportunity is the tiebreaker. In our narrow roads letting the other go first and vice versa the ability to easily acknowledge the courtesy without fumbling with the LH side slider switch is really useful. Just getting back into riding after a long break and I'd been considering the Ninja. You helped me decide👍, have a great weekend

I think the only thing i’d wish the ninja had would be the warning indicators (both indicators at the same time) because it really is useful and could be life saving since no one looks out for bikes

I'm 42 and have the 2021. I just hit 15,000 miles and it still runs like the day I bought it. The exhaust can is a problem. It throws off your body position. I installed the Arrow Pro Race slip-on and it fixed the issue. For the money, you just can't beat this bike right now.

Hi Walt, I'm a fan of the little Ninja since I started my motorcycle life. I just want to know if there are any issues with the suspension and do the stock tires (if you're still using them on this video) and suspension feel good on general road conditions. I hope you can notice me. More power to your channel. Ride safely! As we say in the Philippines...Mabuhay! 😊🏍

This road reminds me of the 7 Lakes run which track around the West side of the Hudson river. I road a Ninja 250 and a Honda 500 along those roads but not very fast. My Kawai 500 was the best I ever had on this roads and on some of the stupid 6 lane 280, 287, Turnpike and Rt 21. (where I have never seen a police car..at least until you get to the Newark Boarder). I'm 75 and this is mstly beyond me but I might have to get a 125 Honda Cruiser or or a used 300 Ninja just so I can "go out standing pat."

I just bought a 23 Ninja 400 a couple weeks ago. Cool bike to learn on, but it just feels like it's lacking in true power on the higher end. Ripping around in the double digits is fun and all. But once you wanna do anything over 100mph the bike will feel like you're riding a children's toy. It's great if you don't have a speed demon on your back. But if you do, just buy the 600cc bro. They'll give you so much more satisfaction

I didn't realize that the Ninja 400 wasn't ride by wire. That's a plus for me, like the analog tach is. I'm looking to get back into motorcycles after an almost 20 year hiatus, and some of the modern amenities (like TFT screens) that have have become largely standardized are unappealing to me.

I'm getting this one as my first bike I'm taking an MSF course this 31 they waive the written and skill test after you passed the course. I'm 16 yo and my parents are tired of dropping me off at work. I was thinking of buying a car but it's very expensive around $5k+ for a high mileage car plus insurance is expensive so I decided to buy a motorcycle for a commute then I found out about the 400 it cost around $5899 abs brand new with $50 every insurance

Got the same bike and bought the same time too. Got 4000 miles on mine, great bike. The engine on this is great you just have to wring it out near 9-11k rpms, looks like your riding it very tame compared to what it’s really capable of. Take mine to 60mph in second gear all the time in the city. Get about 200 miles per tank. Don’t be scared to ride a bit more aggressively, they track these bikes all the time.

The Ninja is quite a bit quicker then the Honda CB triplets, posting a 0-100 mph run that’s a whopping 4 seconds faster then the CBR500R, 0-60 times are very similar, the Ninja just starts pulling away once the bikes start revving out and reaching higher speeds. Also on the dyno the Ninja put down slightly higher whp figures, 44 whp vs the CBR500R’s 43 whp. The CBR made 4 more ft lbs of torque though, 29 vs the ninja’s 25. The ninja has a much more revvy power band, it winds way out to 12,500 rpm where it continues to hold a nice flat power band, where the CBR start losing power hard and fast past 8500 rpm. That’s why the Ninja 400 is so much quicker at higher speeds, it’s in its power curve, as it’s making the same whp at 8000 rpm as the Honda is, it just holds onto its power all the way until 12,500 rpm like a real sport bike, where the Honda does not. The Honda has a more torque first power band, it’s gruntier in the lower rpm’s, but can’t hold a candle to the ninja once both bikes are revved out. The Ninja also is substantially lighter, 60 lbs less then the CBR. On these small bikes, 20 lbs makes a huge difference, let alone 3x that figure…
