Citizen BJ7100-82E Promaster Land GMT World Time 200m Solar Travel Watch Review

  • The current ultimate travel watch that I've been able to find. 200m water resistance, world time bezel, true GMT hand, solar power, and just dressy enough to wear out to dinner. For around $600USD it's a stunner and could be a one-watch collection on bracelet and band.

I love this watch and nice review. Around 2015 they mad the CITIZEN ROYAL MARINES COMMANDO GMT for the British market, and it was almost this same watch but in titanium with duratect and sapphire. They also did a non GMT version a couple of years later.

I just picked one up a few weeks ago. I paid $250 for a used one on Ebay. I needed a GMT for work and this looked like it was a reasonably priced one. I have a lot of watches across all price ranges, but this one quickly became one of my favorites. Solar Quartz is the only way to go for quartz watches, and honestly - they are just grab-and-go. The Mechanical watches - you have to set before you bolt. Even with an automatic watch winder, you're still looking at a few seconds+- every day.
So, for this one - the grab-and-go factor, the accuracy, the readability, the GMT movement and the 200m water resistance make this an all-around perfect daily beater watch.

I share your opinion that GMTs are a nearly ideal watch. I've solved the "there should be more of them" problem by ... buying many, many more of them. I think about a third of my collection is made up of GMTs, and my enthusiasm can be directly traced back to my purchase of this watch a few years back. My version has the green dial, and can be found for ~ $350 (mine was even less).

Do you think the $250 price tag for this watch is a good deal?

@@korhi4 In terms of what I remember paying, I think that's about right. In terms of what you get relative to many other watches at that price, absolutely!

I have this watch. I don't particularly like quartz watches, but I agree that a solar quartz watch is an exception. While I like Citizen, it has its weaknesses. Unlike low to mid Seiko watches whose weakness are its bracelet clasps (protrusion), Citizen's bracelets and clasps are pretty good. Citizen's weakness likes in the thickness their cases and the length of its lugs (usually longer).

I have a question about the jumping hour hand in this movement: you can advance the hour hand independently, but how do you make it jump backward?
If for example you are travelling from Paris to London (one hour difference), do you just advance the hour hand 23 hours instead? But then you would mess up the date and you'd have to re-adjust that as well.

Surprised you paid so much, I picked one up for around $250.00 not long ago.

I bought one for my father around the same time you did for a similar price. Now a year later I purchased one for myself paying 313USD.
Has become somewhat difficult to find especially if you don't want to bother importing.

Hi. $1,200 is the most I could ever afford to spend on a watch. Is the MM200 the best AUTO dive watch for the that price?

Not sure, but it might be the cheapest hour-jumping GMT on the market and compared to most watches at the price it's a steal...
