Eddie Hazel was a beast on guitar and never got the credit as a guitar God but he was. Gary Shider was a damn good guitarist also and vocally he was hell of nice, not to mention how good Glen Goings was when he joined the group may the all rest in peace.

JJ here's a breakdown on the song...
One of the most potent grooves in the P-Funk canon, "Cosmic Slop" is also one of their most lyrically incisive tracks, telling the story of a woman with five children who works as a prostitute to feed her family. A God-fearing woman, she prays to the Lord, justifying her sins by pleading that she's doing it for her kids. The Devil hears her call, and answers:
Would you like to dance with me?
    We're doing the cosmic slop

  • @floydenglish1400

That was Cosmic slop, youngling, a funkadelic song. This song is one of best live performances ever and is a funkadelic classic. Very earthy confluence of blues, rock and soul. Saw this live in 1978. The audio in the recording does not do it justice!

"The Neighbors were talking, calling her "Jezebel", I can here my Mother call, I can here my Mother call. Father, Father it's for the kids, any and everything I did. Please, don't judge me too Strong." That song is deep!!!

Gary Shider portraying "Kidd Funkadelic" also known as "Diaper Man" which is the picture on their Tales of Kidd Funkadelic Album. Talking about a Mother's sacrifice to feed her children. Growing up poor some of us have come to know this harsh truth. The lead guitarist Michael Hampton was called "Kidd Funkadelic" when he auditioned for the band when he was 18 years old. Michael played "Maggot Brain" note for note which impressed George, and the rest is history. "Maggot Brain" is ranked in the top 5 of guitar riffs of all time. So, Jammin, in your two year deadline to become "the greatest guitar player in the world" add "Maggot Brain" to your repertoire. Thank you, for your diligence and honesty in your reactions......

@TibiafingerVacation TFV, Michael was called 'Kidd Funkadelic' because he was 18 when he auditioned for George. Michael was able to play "Maggot Brain' note for note. If you notice in the concert Gary not only wore the diaper, but also was sucking on a pacifier.....

Michael Hampton joined P-Funk after original guitarist, Eddie Hazel, left the band. Hazel would return sporadically, but Hampton was retained. Concerning "Maggot Brain", Hampton's improvised solo is preferred by many over Hazel's original work. A live version of "Maggot Brain" was included with the "One Nation Under A Groove" LP, and you can hear Hampton's impassioned playing. I attended the concert where that recording was made.

Parliament-Funkadelic is a legendary band. You had to be around during this time growing up on the characters and themes to fully appreciate and understand what they were doing. There's a reason Dr. Dre. Ice Cube, Prince and many more admire and are heavily influenced by this band. #Rock&RollHalloffame.

The DVD copy I have is like a crown jewel in my collection that I didn't know about until a couple years ago. So POWER. I used to play selections from this once a week, no exceptions.
    Three hours of the eye!
Balls out at the P-Funk show!
Stage shows on this level do not exist in today's world. By the end of this, the first song, there are TWICE as many people on stage as when they started.
    M. Hampton looks like he had a fur budget! And Houston is still singing some of this stuff, as George told them to all night, because he was GONE.
Live music has become more of a priority as I approach middle age... My father used to extol its virtues, but I always preferred studio recordings. In my 20s it became about special acts, mostly Stevie Ray Vaughan and Pink Floyd. Now there's plenty more.
Have you done Otis Redding at Monterey 67? That version of "Shake" is lightning in a bottle

Watch the live footage from THIS show!!
While Funkadelic's first 3 records are incredible and actually do a decent job of capturing the band's TRUE sound... When they changed to Parliament-Funkadelic, theres a lot lost in translation on the studio albums!
Granted, it's basically IMPOSSIBLE to capture their LIVE energy in a studio
