This song would get even the “wallflowers” onto the dance floor!!!

The term Everybody's Got A Little Light Under The Sun has specific meaning. George Clinton and company were saying the Sun (as a whole) is our life giving power source, and we all possess a bit of that life sustaining power inside of us. I know, a little deep but that's what he's telling us.

And the album's story arch goes from Endangered Species to Sir Nose (cocaine), consumerism & greed vs love (Wizard of Finance, Funkentelechy), Placebo Syndrome (addiction) to Everybody's Got A Little Light Under The Sun!

The badest Funk band on earth. To have grown up with this music to see them in concert. Watching the Mothership land on stage, to witness the funky Dr Funkenstine decend the steps of the ship. An erra past but the music definitely lives on. To all you funkateers , never give up the FUNK. Flash light was the main staple of a party for years clubs also. It got more air time than some of MJs songs and that's a fact. The story of Sir Nose vs Starchild is history in the archives of Funk. Listen to Sir Nose devoid of Funk on the album. You will understand the concept. I went to the Funk festival in 1979 LA Colloseum may 26th. There shows were so creative and spectacular. The Motor boots affair were you could dance under water and not get wet. Funk on young lady. Try not to sweat.

  • @brooklynswagger

Flashlight is the first battle to between starchild and sir nose to make him dance to the funk, the other battle is aqua boogie where you can dance underwater and not get wet but the final battle is theme from the black hole in which Sir Nose wins the war

When I was a kid this came out and funk music, Parliament, Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, even early James Brown sex machine, was really the precursor to rap. I was 17 when this came out and this music was all the rage for kids my age at the time.

Parliament and their funky song were just fine, really in the groove, but the highlight of this video by a country mile was the awesome dance moves of our very own Angela!! You go girl!!

This whole album, Funkentelechy vs the Placebo Syndrome, is a concept album that tells a story, as illustrated in the comic booklet that came packaged with the vinyl album (don't know if they carried it over to the CD; it's certainly not on Spotify). The basic story is that Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk (in the song, the line "I will never dance") arrives armed with the Snooze Gun, to stop people from dancing or getting down (the Placebo Syndrome). This is obviously not okay, so the Mothership sends Star Child (in the song, the line "Dance sucker!"), armed with the Bop Gun to stop him (Funkentelechy). The entire album leads up to the final confrontation, which is this song.
Reading this back, it sounds like I'm describing some crazy, drug-fueled fever dream. No guarantees that that isn't where the album originated.

The last Friday of each month, there is a local bar that has a thing called Silent Disco. In this event, people are given wireless headphones at the door, and you can switch between the 3 DJs at will. One of the DJs plays dance music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and this song is a favorite of his set. So many people switch over to his channel when this comes on. It might seem weird to a new person, seeing people dancing away, yet you can't hear any music. It really is a fun time. Flashlight really gets people moving. If you ever find yourself in Dayton, OH, hit up Yellow Cab Tavern.

Between my parents, grandparents and so many aunts & uncles that all hard such a wide range of different music I was constantly introduced to so much great music! Love this reaction, Angela!

To those people who never saw a P-Funk concert in the seventies i feel sorry for you the vibe was totally different compared to watching them from the eighties onward. Plain and simple if you never saw the landing of the mothership live you didnt see a P-Funk concert. By the way Bootsy is the drummer on this song which was his until he gave it to Parliament. Which changed the concept of both albums.

The first band ever to have black and white, male and female all together.

The 80's was a terrific, nay, fine era to have been alive in. Except for all the color hair gel that had "secret" pheromones so dudes could have girls follow them around everywhere. Well I guess if you were buying said hair gel for that purpose it wasn't really a "secret". Those silly 80's!

@@steelers6titles It fools lots of experts also. There was another reaction where the guy went on and on about the bass rift.
I know every note of this song in my head, as I'm guessing many do. Go to about the 1:00 of the song (not the reaction) and close your eyes and really listen to what is thought to be a bass and listen as Worrell walks it down and back up. You can pick up the synthesizer as he walks it back to the high end.
You can win some bets with people who think this is Bootsy. Truth is Bootsy didn't want to play it, and I really believe this song doesn't quite work without Bernie's genius.

I got to say, you look slightly uncomfortable trying to get funky, and that is not negative as you're not of that era and you have to accept what you get this era. It is for special listening, not everyday use. You are so smooth.
