It was Halloween night and Parliament Funkadelic was about to tear the roof off the
Houston Summit, ready to bless the crowd with their cosmic brew of interplanetary
funk. George Clinton, Bernie Worrell, Bootsy Collins and the rest of the P-Funk
collective were riding the success of their first Top 5 R&B hit, "Give Up The Funk (Tear
The Roof Off The Sucker)," a track that had earned them the kind of radio play that
would bring the masses out to see them live in a stadium-sized arena. The group was
only five dates into the tour when they arrived in Houston, but they were definitely
ready to take it to the stage for an out-of-this-world show like no other.
Taped on October 31, 1976, these seldom-seen performances at the Houston Summit
represent Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic in their ʼ70s prime, in the era of their
Mothership Connection and The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein LPs-a rare opportunity
for everyone to get their proper dose of The P-Funk.

Don't let the costumes and theatrical skits fool you, these guy's are all critically acclaimed musicians at the top of their game. Listen 🎶 to the work!
You're absolutely 1000% correct
Yes indeed for sure 🎼🎶🎵🎸🎤💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥💥🔥💥✊🏿
Without question. 💯
That's all part of the P-Funk/Funkadelic world they created. Your step into their world when you listen to their music and go to their concerts. Total immersive funk where one nation is under a groove 🤘
@@fiveandtens The sad thing about it they could have made 100 times more $$$ if GC would have patent their music. However, they put on some helluva shows.
One of the best guitars playing i have heard
I'm 65 years old I saw this live concert in 1976 at the Cleveland Ohio coliseum I was 19 years old in my life I was blessed to see great entertainment like Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross Teddy Pendergrass even the Isley Brothers even Barry White, but Funkadelic Parliament live in 1976 is a performance I'll never forget " unbelievable ".
Me in Philly and I'm 69..Happy New Year, I hope🕛🎉
Pure Truth 💯
Saw them at MSG NYC 76 P-FUNK Earth Tour I was 17 the greatest show ever. 🤘🏿
I was 12 and at that same concert in Cleveland. 🔥🔥🔥
Saw Parliament MANY times in Chicago. Always a pleasure.
Original. That is what they were. Original.
What the fuck is that playing that lead guitar. Unrealistic talent. He had to come off the mothership!!!!
That was the great Michael "Kids Funkadelic" Hampton
They don’t make music like this anymore!!!!
Houston, Texas 1976 front row seats right in the middle. Best concert ever Eddie Hazel, Ray Davis, Bernie Worrell Glen Goins and most of all George Clinton I never will forget (A true Funkateer)
Eddie wasn't in this concert. it's Michael Hampton
We invented Rock & Roll, contrary to popular opinion‼️
R.I.P. Mr Clarence “FUZZY” Haskins.🎼🎤🎼
Jesus christ, one of the greatest funk AND rock bands ever
Holy cow! Never heard (or seen) Funkadelic before - Hendrix and YT algorithms sent me here... I'm deeply grateful.
That Bass Line Is insanely Mad Thumping
The best in black funk/ Rock and Roll 👍🎼🎤🎩🎶🎵
In the 70s we had some of the best weed and music and we knew how to have a good time thanks
Best weed, I don't think so. Best music 100% for sure. Don't forget the tabs.
@razthesnail5277 we had the best music for sure, well weed. Colombian Red, Colombian Gold both called "Bo" Jamaican pot it was green in color and the Mexican pot was brown. Pot gave you one helluva buzz
Simply put one of greatest musical history ever made ,masters in their class , on a different plane
Jazz, Blues, Country and Western, Rock, Soul, Funk, Rap, Hip Hop. A legacy of music that from a magnificent culture. That is felt and heard worldwide and America is blessed because of it.

He look so majestic in that hat playing that solo
Mind blowing version of this song. It's perfection.
the houston 1976 live version of this tune is the best. i'd rather see garry shider in a loin cloth rather than a diaper though.
Ya I'm still here off the FUCKING chain AMEN

Michael Hampton made some sweet music on that guitar! Nuff said!
THAT HAT!!!
Wicked!
I feel so lucky I am olde now & had the chance to see Parliament/Funkadelic in many permutations, Hendrix [many times. Prince, Michael Jackson w & w/o brothers], Aretha, Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Bob Marley...the list goes on.I did PR for bands as my first job out of college & was paid to go to shows to represent & also evaluate the "competition" At that time I knew all these musicians were geniuses, but now in hindsight I believe I lived thru a truly golden era of music. I am so lucky. :)
This was during an age when music and musicians were appreciated for their talents 😄🤔💓💯💥
I'm 23, found the funk a lil bit before this Pandemic started.. Listen, i'm not turning back now. 😂😂😂 This shit is next level to my ears

This is as deep as the Funk gets, perhaps the deepest.
The P Funk...
B.M. ………….its in the abyss ,with Rick James, I think Charley Murphy would agree !!!!!!!
Perhaps brother
You ain't never lied!
Nah... It gets deeper
As a sixty year old white English Man I must say that was .... Beautiful. Thanks. God bless the queen. God bless funk.
👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿🎸🎼👍🏾✌🏿
For a people to invent such a powerful genre of music as funk less than 100 years after 246 years of slavery is absolutely amazing…
When did 400 years of slavery occur? I suppose if you include the 100s of years maybe more Africans enslaved other Africans (since you are mentioning blacks only). And how unimaginative to think slaves did not pass down and author beautiful music.
yawn
Silly comment, really.
TO: LARRY COBB,
SPEAK ON IT !!
MY BROTHER!!
As an Afro Cuban discovering all of the amazing black talent from the past can I just say thank you for giving the world you soul in music. This will never be forgotten!
FUNK CANNOT BE TAUGHT.
The Mothership Connection goes to ‘11’ and beyond brother, even in 2021! We want the funk!!!!!
They are it GOAT band Funkadelic and Parliament!
ONE OF THE MOST EPIC SONGS EVER COMPOSED!
2023 The greatest show on earth. Thank you Mr. George Clinton. King of Funk hands down.Bigg Bozz of Joy rd. 313 Detroit
Head bobbing with that wicked hat on, while masterfully playing that guitar and riding on the groove in another dimensions is timeless‼️
Eddie was da man....
@@mdsideshow1 that’s Michael Hampton on guitar
Agreed.....
Space people....universal love. SPACE PEOPLE universal love! This touches your very soul. Funkateer until the pine box. (is that my mother calling) lol
The Baddest Funk ever✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿🐐
Fuzzy Haskins & Gary Shider, epic vocal blending. Fortunate to have seen them live at the top of their game. RIP
Thanks Funk God,I was 10 when I was introduced to Funk.Olympia Stadium Detroit 1976...
@@carloshoward8845 I was 22 when I watched the MShip land at the Spectrum in Philly, there was shootout ( 1 killed) and nobody left the concert
Funkn' forever 2021, the best start right now
The 70s were the peak with bands like Parliament. They straddled and moved effortlessly between funk, rock, soul.
Blues too if you listen to their "Mommy, What's A Funkadelic?" album.
They ruled the 70's😊
Think about it, you got funk, rock, jazz, gospel all rolled into one hot ass jam that takes you on a journey and then the mothership brings you back so exhausted.
July 1,2023 I have watched this video at least 20 times and I see the best band ever to step foot on a stage. George Clinton, P-funk forever.
43 years later ... and this shit is still ahead of its time.
So glad I’ve had the privilege of seeing this band play several times.
And everytime the mothership would land George would step out and say fire it up didn't have to till me twice 🤣🤣
Parliament has always been badass
Always went to the concert buzzed up and never paid attention to the lyrics. Turns out that was my life. I miss my mom. I don't know how she did it. I didn't have a dad either. God bless her
One of my greatest honors was making the Guitar strap Gary Shider is wearing when I was a young man..
This is probably the best version of the song, I wish there's an edited audio where Garry's solo also can be heard.
I can't stop watching this. It's just incredible.
I saw my first Parliament Funkadelic concert when I was 10 in Detroit. Mothership Connection concert Olympia Stadium. I grew up loving their music. Great way to grow up.
This performance is a journey you cannot forget years after years you will come and visit again and again.
Tried to find my comment from before visit of course couldnt find because people likes it so much like me.Let's be nice each other we should seek peace on this world.
Parliament-Funkadelic was and is, the greatest band ever. Nothing or no one comes close to this 🎤🎵🎶🎼🎻🎹🎷🎺🎸
Truth!!!!
Period!!!!!!!
100%
no, they were the greatest funk and acid funk band ever. the greatest all out band using musicianship, vocality, tightness and synchronization was ew & fire. parliment can out funk ew& fire, but ew & fire can out everything else to parliment.
george clinton vs maurice white. think about it.
Ya damn right. P-FUNK Y'ALL 🤘🏿
These guys truly were on their own planet.
It was the 70's, you could create whatever you wanted with music.
Anthything goes.
Just bring your own voices and instruments and be original.
Wish it were like that again.
One hell of a decade for music.
Yep I agree, I was there the same year when they came to Mobile Al. Same show they were out of this world GOOD!!!
And be real about it
We will never see another group like Parliament Funkadelic in our life
A great funk rock song
I can admit this now, but back in the day, when P-Funk was at its peak, I could not afford to go to the concerts. What an incredible thing, that after all of these years that I can now see what I missed. Breaks my heart a little. Being old is so much different than being young. But , man....., at least I am getting to see it. must have been glorious to be there.
The sound is INSANE on this recording. Drum cymbals are crisp with a nice warm snare and the bass drum is solid hitting as a heart attack. The bass is nasty and funky, every thumb lick heard. Guitars are raw and electric, ringing out every decibel. Seriously sounds like this thing was recorded yesterday on top notch equipment. It has an amazing sound without being overprocessed.
this is my favorite version of their song, the one i have in my car :)
Stars to Remember
Deetroiter Drums courtesy of Jerome “Big Foot” Brailey and bass courtesy of Rodney “Skeet” Curtiss. These two plus Bernie Worrell are holding the earth in orbit around the sun with their performances!
h2junkey Rodney “Skeet” Curtis was not the Bassist on this gig it was Cordell ”Boggie” Mosson.

The level of musicianship on that stage is unbelievable.

During this time there was nothing like a Parliament Funkadelic concert on the face of the Earth
I'm a white guy and I always said they are the best funk band of all time ! My brothers always hated coming home from school because I had this music blasting !!! My youngest brother
started to listen to this and he loved it!!!
We are all brothers brother.
great music is great music......
Why does it matter if you’re white?
At the prime of funk.. I had the best funkin time of my life from fort bragg to 1st ave 110 st MOB...
Been hooked since 1971. Navy, these tunes cut our souls. Then 1973 the War is over. We got High, danced, jammed this album, and cried when. "March to the Witchs Castle". Thank You, Eddie Hazel
At 69 yrs young I relate And Thank U, especially sharing your emotions- Max Respect ❤😁🌿
Can you believe this ?? I saw and heard it with my own eye's and ears , i had to go to back to back concerts to see all this . I loved every minute , amazing ! Yes you had to be ready for the Mothership !!!🔥🔥🔥🌟🌟🌟 starchild .

The ultimate mother's day tribute
I remember this particular concert. My parents didn't let me attend. It was both my 1st year in Jr. high school and as a new teenager. Now, after enjoying this video some 40 yrs later, I am highly pisses at the parents.
Your parents knew drugs are going on during the concert and 2 protect u.
tucanphos. Dont ever take advice from your parents nor listen to them. You wil when it comes to MUSIC,MONEY & WOMEN. Not in that order. but most of all the ALMIGHTY!! U see the MOTHERSHIP here. They`ve returned to: "RECLAIM THE PYRAMIDS!! Thats what GC says & I believe him!!!
@Carl Allen Sure did! I don’t blame them
My first FUNK SONG I WAS IN 8TH GRADE AND STILL LOVE THIS I'm 58 now
The 70s pure funk ❤❤
Such a heart-felt guitar solo!
After watching all of the Parliament- Funkadelic shows on youtube, THIS version of Cosmic slop is the best!! Matter of fact, every video of the Houston 1976 show is awesome!!
I’m happy I saw this one 1st it set the tone for me even got me playing guitar n bass 🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿
Agreed!! And they left this off of the live album!! Dang!!!!
It’s just sick. Perfection
BEST BAND EVER!!! PERIOD!!!
MUSICAL GENIUSES!!!
TANTALIZING!!! MESMERIZING!!!
NUFF SAID!!
I was there; I was a student at HBCU TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY in some nosebleed seats. We tore the roof off, oh yeah.
FUNKATEER 4 LIFE!!!!!!
THIS BAND WAS LIGHT YEARS AHEAD OF THERE TIME
A masterpiece
wow i just discovered this incredible piece of music,i'm spun out.
This is absolutely otherworldly. So much respect for Gary Shider RIP
Wow, Hampton's guitar solo is about to shatter my computer screen.
Man if Hendrix could've lived long enough to make special guest appearances with these guys and just jam out on songs like this. This was 1976. Hendrix would've only been 33.
Amen amen. If Jimi could have walked in on this and jammed. The earth would have skipped a turn!
the universe is not big enough for that event !
The real question is if Hendrix would have joined parliament? Even if for one album like Eddie Hazel, it would have been the greatest album to ever fucking exist
I've literally pinned Hendrix and Clinton together as part of my dream supergroup
@Free Spirit really???? When though???? Was it recorded?????😙
This gave me chills. One of the best bands ever.
A discovery for me...just in time !
There's no touching this song, period!!
Best live version of this song EVER!
The best I can describe Michael Hampton is, He's holding something thats trying to get away. The guitar is under complete control, it just doesn't know it. Incredible!!!!1
Mike was hardcore jollies
This is what I grew up with these funky Icons❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
One of the BEST BANDS CAN PLAY ANY TYPE OF MUSIC
Talent at its best...... he rocks the sh!t out of that guitar!!
would that be diaperman or the one in the wicked hat. they're both good.
One of the best stage bands ever!!
Great song, RIP Gary.
When they came out with " Bring It To The Stage" , they meant every word.
Absolutely no group had the ability to blow you away. The landing of the Mother Ship was out of this world.
