    That's why you have a backup collar attached to the leash

    I see you have twelve links in the prong collar and that they're going the same direction. The amount of links isn't a problem but the herm sprenger is designed with the centre plate and the prongs going opposite directions to distribute pressure onto the side of the neck and not the centre along with not twisting. Just something I thought I would point out since you should be able to have 11 or 12 prongs with the centre plate.

    Excellent job on this vid. I just bought the neck tech and was able to add links per your rec. with pliers. I bought mine off Amazon for 48bux an ex large which is only 25 in and barley fit my med-large black lab. It fits with the extra links but we'll see how it works. Thanks for posting a vid on an alternative to the prong collar.

    well your not suppose to keep it on your dog all the time it is used for walks and training if your dog is really bad at pulling. so the ends of the bigger collar will send signals to the dog oh I don't like that so they'll stop pulling

    • @wolfiecorn1588
      @wolfiecorn1588 4 роки тому

      No, its not that they dont like it. The dogs react to the prong collar because it is harder(not harsher) pressure all around the dogs neck. It is just more pressure on the neck and harder pressure.

    Quit question I know it have been a long time ago but the distributor website is not active anymore, by any chanse do you know where I can get this collar with the carabiner instead of the buckle?

      I would contact these guys. They show one with the buckles, although it has the prongs.

    Your collar is placed wrong. It is not meant to be on all the time. It is only meant to be on for walks and training sessions.

    Should I get a neck tech for my pit bull or do I keep the one that looks like the one on the right

    • @bwcordes
      @bwcordes  8 років тому +3

      +Jonathon Lopez It's really up to you, but one advantage of the Neck Tech collar is that it doesn't look as intimidating as the prong collars. With a pit bull or in my case, Neapolitan Mastiff it does make a difference in how we are received when out on the town.
      At the same time, both collars do the same job for the most part. IMO the only technical advantage to the Neck Tech is that it won't pop open if you get the leash caught in it. On the other hand, the Neck Tech needs tools to add or remove links whereas the prong collar can be added or subtracted by hand.

    I am searching everywhere for an HS short link (fur saver) martingale, black steel or curogan. NOBODY sells it in USA, and it's impossible to import from Germany. I am currently using a slip collar, but I hate those one-sided inconveniences. With a martingale, I would never need to turn the collar around again when my dog needs to move to my other side. On foot my dog is on my left, when cycling she's on my right. Always away from traffic.
    Your link took me nowhere. Outdated? I only found an online site from UK that sells the one I want, but they don't export... /sigh

    • @bwcordes
      @bwcordes  6 років тому +1

      The link in the description does appear to be outdated now. I think you'll have to go the route I went originally, and email an importer from the search on the actual German HS website. They still list the "fun" collar on there, so if you can find someone to import it for you, you should be all set.

    • @WildWestNeko

      I see the "fun Neck Tech" collars for sale from several HS German suppliers, but HS itself does not ship to individuals but only suppliers (companies). Search continues. Thanks for your reply though, appreciated :-)

    Many dogs get prong collar smart. Which means they only listen when its on. Do real teaching with your dog. Plus I have seen injures caused by prong collars at the dog park they definitely should not be worn there. And if used they should be taken off immediately when training is over.

      It looks like they have changed their website since I last looked. They had to special order mine, and I think they still will. They do have a page deep in their site which shows the collar I have, but they don't list it on the normal site. Contact them, and see if they're still willing to do that.

    Oh, my gosh! I sat through this entire video to see how to actually add or remove prongs in the collar. All he showed was a screw drive and some needle nosed pliers. That took about 3 seconds. This was a useless video unless you wanted to know he has a drooling dog.

  • @blackdogxx
    @blackdogxx 10 років тому +2

    Sorry that you didn't show how that collar is effective on a dog that pulls hard or is generally wild on a leash. I see no mechanism to 'pinch' or otherwise communicate to a dog, which is the purpose of a prong collar. The collar you like is not doing anything like a prong collar and is simply a device made of segments with no real effect on the dog.

    • @bwcordes
      @bwcordes  10 років тому +5

      I believe that I mention that it is a martingale style collar. Those have a "choke" effect when pulled. I assumed that folks knew what those were. Thanks for the comment as I'll try to be more thorough in the future as a result.

    • @DougHinVA
      @DougHinVA 7 років тому +2

      most people do not even know what Martingale means let alone prong collar and the HS Neck Tech collar is not a prong collar at all. It is segmented and that is all. 'popping' the dog as you mention or dragging the dog into a sit neither one is smart dog handling.

    • @WildWestNeko
      @WildWestNeko 6 років тому +1

      If a collar does not correct the pulling behavior, then should discontinue using such collar (flat, choker, prong or what not). If a dog consistently pulls against any collar, they will end up with injury. Much of these injuries are to soft tissue, thyroid and spine, which we do not even notice. To me a collar is merely a tag holder, and a choker serves as an escape proof backup to a halter or harness.
      If a dog has no leash manners, then is time to visit some obedience classes.

      @@WildWestNeko correct, a collar is simply a communication tool, the skill has to be though and learned first. Hate how people think its a one stop fix every problem tool, might work at first but eventually the dog will become immune to it and revert back to the old behaviour 🤦🏿‍♂️

      I'm guessing you've never tried one on? Give it a go sometime. You can't even tell that there are individual prongs. They are a fantastic training aid and actually much more humane than a choke collar. I'm sorry your area judges things based off of how they look rather than their function.

      @@bwcordes yes, they are forbidden too. everything that just leads to pain is forbidden for dogtraining here in austria (and most other countrys in europe i think)
      and since 20 years or so it's not allowed anymore to cut things of your dog for aesthetic purposes. and yes, neutering is allowed. i don't know what spaying means, so i can't answer that one

    • @bwcordes
      @bwcordes  4 роки тому

      @@benjaminsgs5799 Spaying is neutering a female dog. It is a shame your country limits your choices based off of what they think something must do rather than what it actually does. There is a very good argument that prong collars and martingale collars are safer than a regular collar when training a dog which pulls. If you ever get the chance, put a prong collar on your forearm and pull. You'll see that it doesn't inflict pain. Even try putting a group of pencils in your hand and press on a part of your body. It doesn't hurt. Same principle with prong collars.
