Sure, Jurassic Park was indeed a cinematic spectacle of the century and what brought people into the interest of prehistory. But the intro, egg travel scene, desert crossing and ending are what got my attention and interest into Prehistory, despite its plot flaws and scientific inaccuracies.

Across the desert will always be an absolute banger for me... the instruments working perfectly together to create a seamless feeling of having to go across an endless wasteland. to watch helplessly, as your partner's fall down, always knowing that you, must. keep. going.
I think the reason they call them just Carnotaurs is because they don’t want to explicitly say the animal is carnotaurus. Since the real animal was a lot smaller it definitely wouldn’t be the same species as in the movie Like the same reason in Walking with Monsters or Primeval use gorgonopsid for a 5m carnivore instead of explicitly calling them Gorgonops or Inostrancevia since there is not a lot of evidence proving these animals can grow 5m in length. However I suppose they would have called Carnotaur, Abelisaur instead if they didn’t want to say the exact species name or I might be overthinking it.
I rmember watching this movie so much as a child and playing little games they made for the DVD. I spent a lot of times on them, and there was only 3 (or 4), a puzzle, a knowledge test and the best of all, the cave. You were in the cave of the end of the movie and had to find your friends, the exit and open it without meeting the carnotaurus. It was very rng based but the sheer tension when hoping to not find a carnotaurus at the next room or not make the whole exit fall on you was unmatched for me. God I miss the simpler times.
I think the scene with the carno mourning its mate is also great. It shows the carnivores may be scary meat eaters, but they still have emotions. This nuanced scene is such a breath of fresh air because carnivorous dinosaurs are usually portrayed as mindless murder machines in media.
The iguanodons themselves were like 5m tall the size of an irl rex. The small carno is about 7m tall and the big one some people say its like 10m-13m tall so yeah these dinos are too oversized but I love the movie and the Disney Carno portrayal is my favorite of all time albeit inaccurate.
They actually cut a really good scene from this film. Later on Neera is attacked by the raptor pack as shes trying to save the orphaned iguanodon before shes saved by Kron. Interesting to see that Neera had already decided to go against her brother by not leaving the babies behind but also added an interesting arc to Kron that, even he, was willing to make exceptions to his rule to save his family. Just added a nice extra dimension to him that is a shame got cut. You can actually find the rough animated draft on UA-cam that was fully voice acted Also the carnotaur was retconned by a Disney theme park i believe? To be a fictional subspecies called Carnotaurus Floridiensis. Hence why its portrayed as so huge and different
I have loved this movie since it came out and it has always been one of my top favorite films of all time. In my humble opinion it does not nearly get enough recognition. It is beautiful in every sense of the word. An underrated masterpiece.
My love for Dinosaurs, and Carnotaurus specifically as my favorite dinosaur, came from this movie. The Carnotaurus really looked like giant demons here, they always scared me, but they also gave me a fascination thay no other dinosaur ever gave me. Idk, the combo of short face, large head, spikes and horns really mixed with me. Learning that they weren't T-Rex sized monsters, but more like giant cheetas with horns, also made me love them even more because they had an identity beyond just "devil dinosaur monster." Also, the Meteor Scene is by far my second favorite in this movie and genuinely scared me as a kid. I think it was the first thing to give me fear of space XD
I actually just watched this with my kids a few days ago ^^ Something I noticed with the Carnotaurus, that I wonder if you or anyone else did: One of them is quite a bit smaller than the other. I know sexual dimorphism is a thing, but the first long shot you see of the two in the desert shows that the other is ALOT smaller by far. Its also noticeable when they approach the cave before Bruton's death (The smaller chased Aladar inside). It actually got me to wonder if they're actually adult and juvenile rather than a mated pair. If so, it makes sense that the Juvie survived the cave collapse, and it also explains why it was so thrown by the response from the herd at its attack.
This movie is just so perfectly retrosaurus, the designs of each animal is so well made for that aesthetic, and they fit so well with the backgrounds they chose, also the way the cameras from that time made the footage look adds to that old timey feel, it’s just great, they did such a good job with this movie.
Thank you for reviewing this Red Raptor, this is my all time favorite Disney movie for a couple reasons. 1.) I love excellent the quality holds up since 2000. 2.) I really enjoy the cast as far as voices and dinosaurs chosen and the story. 3.) Carnotaurus was an awesome choice for the film instead of T-Rex. And lastly, I love how detailed and as realistic as they could get to make the dinosaurs look even if they are humanized, but thankfully not so much as the live action Disney animals we get now a days. I'll definitely have to rewatch this again at some point, well worth it if you haven't seen this before. Shame Disney has moved on from this film, it's way better than it's given credit for and I do appreciate the 100th anniversary of Disney included Aladar in the special. Also my main reason Animal Kingdom is better than the other parks for me, the dinosaur part including Aladar and parts of his story in the park. Sorry for going on, I really love this film. Great review and can't wait to see what's next Red Raptor. Hoping Prehistoric America will get reviews by you at some point good sir. Keep up your awesome content, stay safe and have a great day.
I'm glad you liked it. This movie and Jurassic Park were my childhood and while it's not perfect it is way overhated. It would be interesting to see you look at the whole behind the scenes and scrapped concepts and plots in a video.
The animators even lamented the loss in accuracy when the gave the iguanadon lips but the studio said they needed to look like they were talking which was hard with beaks. Eema's beak was similar enough to a parrot that they made it look like that and the studio excepted that.
What can I say, this movie was my childhood and definitely how I and many others became interested in prehistoric content for the first time. As for the movie itself, it's good. Visuals were top tier for its time and the soundtrack is simply perfect. The plot is simple, it's basic but it has grit and some really stand out moments. The carnotaur's portrayal was iconic. Singlehandedly putting the species in the limelight and in the minds of the audience, like JP did for T-Rex, Raptors and Spinosaurus. I definitely have to agree and praise the movie for the roster of species it decided to show off. Wish we would see another movie of it's kind nowadays, with our technologycal and paleontological improvements. With some similar dinosaur characters and similar serious plot with some really effective desperate situations.
I personally adore the Oviraptor in this movie, I know it isn't accurate but I just have such a soft spot for the gangly weird proporions especially with their lack of feathers and the sounds they make are perfect as well.
This film was nothing but a staple of my childhood. I'm not joking, I watched it non stop on VHS to the point that I remember the commercials and trailers that play before the film started all these years later and I know every cut, sound effect, visual and line of dialogue. I grew up being a dinosaur nut for as long as I could remember, and this was probably why, as I'm sure I saw this before seeing Jurassic Park and Walking with Dinosaurs. This did help make the Iguanodon my favourite dinosaur of all time. I won't hesitate and say it's one of my favourite films of all time, partly because of James Newton Howard's score, which is one of my top 5 of all time. It may not be entirely accurate, but this did help me fall in love with dinosaurs, which is more than enough for me.
This was the first Dino movie I instantly fell in love and literally watched the movie a lot personally the Carno was my favorite villain, but when I first watched it, I almost thought the bad guy was a T-rex, fun fact the velociraptor sounds came from the directors chihuahua growling and they used that for the raptors sound.

Love this and enjoy watching this too. This dinosaur movie that came out in 2000 is just great, I was always hoping for a second movie or even a sequel to this but never happened. I guess this movie is good by itself and the animation is just wonderful.
This movie is a cinematic masterpiece, I have a 6 ft theater banner hanging in my room. If you want to know more about bts, I made a 40-minute doc about the movie on my channel. Btw Koolasuchus was badass for those 8 seconds.
Little known fun fact about these movies take on Carnotaurus At the underrated ride Countdown to Extinction there's a skeleton based on this version on display And the sign talking about rhe info on this creature labels it as a floridian subspecies called Robustus floridaensis Though how a south american dino came to have a north american, much less floridian, subspecies is beyond me Its weird but I like that they gave it that little detail Plus the roar of this creature has forever stuck in my mind To the point its in my top 5 dino roars
My guess on the insane size of the Carnotaurus is that they wanted them to feel the same way the T. rex does in JP, you know, an unstoppable mosnter that you can only run away from, but since the characters are multi ton dinosaurs they had to make it insanely large to fit that role
I’ve seen this movie the most compared to other Disney movies. I loved this money since I was a kid and I still love it just the same. Only a couple of things have changed my opinion on the movie both in positive and negative ways but mostly positive. Like as a kid I never appreciated how amazing the score, the cinematography, the practical work, and how good the CGI was for the time. The choice to use the carno over the T. rex was such a smart choice cause they made the carno really scary having it look demonic with lots of spikes with that red coloring. Lots of great tense/chase sequence like the meteor shower is a great example.
Maybe it's just me, but I think the reason the characters called the Carnotaurus a 'Carnotaur' is to give it a timeless vibe. In a weird way, it provides a somewhat accurate understanding for the creature, while also making it a living threat for these dinosaurs and fitting with the vibe of the ancient world they live in. Plus it helps that it's the only dinosaur whose species is given a name, whereas "Land Before Time" for instance gave names various to various species (i.e Long-Neck, Three-Horn, Flyer).
The intro of this movie, pure paleo cinema! A dream of mine is to be able to see it in theaters someday! Same goes for TLW, JP3 and technically even paleo docs cuz I just loaf the theatrical experience and i bet Prehistoric Planet, Walking With Dinos and Dinosaur Planet would feel amazing on the big screen! But that's just me so I know I'm alone in that regard. Wont stop me from dreaming it or making my own original stories that I'd want to share with ppl through the theatrical experience!
You should have a look at the Minecraft mod “prehistoric nature” it has over 800 prehistoric animals from the pre-cambrian all the way to the Jurassic at the moment the Jurassic is still being worked on so yea but they are going until the present day the creatures are as accurate as they can be within the restrictions of Minecraft and they will update animals and there models if new research comes out on them with noticeable differences
I remember seeing this movie in theaters when it was initially released. Now there are a lot of people who say that this movie's plot is basically a ripoff of Don Bluth's The Land Before Time, and I'd be lying if I said I don't see where they're coming from. When you get right down to it, both movies are about a dinosaur protagonist who's home was affected by a natural disaster and he has to cross a baron wasteland to find a new home, all while dodging a deadly predator. With Land Before Time, we have Littlefoot and his friends Cera, Ducky, Petri, and Spike who were all separated from their families during an earthquake and they try to reach the Great Valley while avoiding the T-Rex, Sharptooth. With Dinosaur, we have Aladar and his lemur family who were forced off of their island home be an asteroid impact and must reach the nesting grounds with Kron and his herd while avoiding several predators like raptors and a pair of Carnotaurs. One more similarity is that both films were originally supposed to have no dialogue other than the narrator, something like the Rite of Spring segment from Fantasia, but longer. But that's about where the similarities end, unless you want to get nitpicky.
People can say what they want about this movie but it is a fantastic watch. Maybe its biased nostalgia but I don't think so because out of every dinosaur movie I've watched none have made me feel like I've been taken back 65 million years like this one, thanks to the way they pulled off CG with real scenery. Also unpopular opinion but the Carno's were the main characters lol, they have the strongest on screen presence out of all the characters
It makes sense for Carnotaurus to be called something different that the modern name we humans give them, but I find it strange that the name the characters give them is so similar. They could have said "predators", or a brand new name like when LBT invented "sharptooth". To be honest, I'm a spanish speaker, so the version I first watched in theaters was dubbed in spanish. In that dub, both the modern name for the animal and the name given by the other dinosaurs are one and the same ("carnotauros").
You should look up the original pitch for this movie before Disney bought it, the ending was much darker. Part of where the dinosaur species came from was Disney requiring that they used the Dinosaurs from their park ride. That is how we wound up with a TRex sized Carnotaurus, because the script originally had a TRex and they wanted to keep the imposing nature.
Still the best Disney movie and still the only one valid for a live action remake. Another great thing to mention was the music score, this movie is the closest thing we'll ever get to a dinosaur version of The Lion King and even the music gives off a arguably more wildlife African theme than The Lion King does!
The decision to use Carnotaurus as the "big theropod" of this film instead of T.rex was legendary

Bruton is on the same level as Sarah’s dad from Land Before Time. Avengers needed them both.
She is spelled "Cera"...
Like Triceratops
@@BergischerHammer94Cera (without any other words) actually means "Horn"
So her name is literally just Horn
I remembered getting this film on VHS, i just had a surgery and it was a great gift for a an 11 year old who loved dinosaurs
Survival of the fittest was never about stronger over weak or selfish over caring for others.
I will have to say, Disney’s dinosaurs is way better than Wish I’ll give them that
What can I say, this movie was my childhood and definitely how I and many others became interested in prehistoric content for the first time.
I don't know if you saw mat pat's video, but this is the most deadly Disney movie
I love this movie. It is one of my favorite dinosaur movies and also one of my favorite childhood movies.
This is my childhood movie ❤ fantastic film and still looks very good after all these years.
I still think the Carnotaurus in Disney’s Dinosaur is the Canon Carnotaurus, I don’t care if it’s an oversized monster, it looks so cool.
Cool doesn’t always mean real.
Monsters Resurrected mindset
@@thelittleal1212I mean, the real animal is also pretty cool
@@MinecraftWorld1954 I mean in a fictional sense if you get my meaning.
Like saying the JP dilo is Actually real.
@@thelittleal1212iguanadons also don't have beaks. It's not a scientificly accurate movie but good for the time it was released in
15:22 Carnotaurs in The Lost World Novel (1995)
Lol anyone who thinks this is the worst disney movie are going to cry after this video!
* cough cough * Schafrillas * cough cough *
Still one of my favorite movies, I give it a rewatch every few months. Absolutely love the soundtrack.
Seeing that one guy get eaten in the background is brutal
I didn’t see it until years later
Would’ve been far better if it was more like the zero dialogue introduction.
Speaking of “Godzilla”, the movie also has its own “Rodan” at the beginning.
The turns have tabled
LETS GOO! ANOTHER VIDEO! I LOVE YOU

0:43 Yay!!! One of my requests is coming true.
I love this movie so much, used to watch it every day when I got the dvd back in 2009
The first movie I watched in existence and I'm happy for it. I like the way you said it's not perfect but fun and entertainment compare to schaffrilas completely saying that this is worst disney movie of all time
Disney's Dinosaurs is my childhood and it always will be and i like how we don't get a another Trex instead we get a Oversized Carno as the Monster that's really what i like❤
This was my first movie theater experience. I was four.
3:42; if I’m not mistaken, their beaks are still there, it’s more that there are lips over the beak, which looks like teeth
Also have you considered doing a video about reviewing the Godzilla from 1999 comma the Tri-Star one?
I would love to see that
This movie always has a special place in my heart!
This was my childhood.
Little known fun fact about these movies take on Carnotaurus
At the underrated ride Countdown to Extinction there's a skeleton based on this version on display
And the sign talking about rhe info on this creature labels it as a floridian subspecies called Robustus floridaensis
Though how a south american dino came to have a north american, much less floridian, subspecies is beyond me
Its weird but I like that they gave it that little detail
Plus the roar of this creature has forever stuck in my mind
To the point its in my top 5 dino roars
My guess on the insane size of the Carnotaurus is that they wanted them to feel the same way the T. rex does in JP, you know, an unstoppable mosnter that you can only run away from, but since the characters are multi ton dinosaurs they had to make it insanely large to fit that role
since you asked for requests: you are umasou, same as Walt Disney's Fantasia ~ Rite of Spring ill throw these two into the pool
I think its crazy how dinosaur lovers love this movie but people who focus on pixar movies absolutely hate it for some reason
When I was a child, I had a bunch of CDs I would watch, and some movies online, I always preferred Jurassic Park III to Dinosaur
16:19 Don't forget the pair of Talarurus in the beginning with the egg.
First dinosaur movie i ever watched and i LOVED IT❤
Maybe it's just me, but I think the reason the characters called the Carnotaurus a 'Carnotaur' is to give it a timeless vibe.
Maybe one could refer to Carnotaurinae members as Carnotaurs but I typically don’t.
I think it has something to do with how people often omit the "us" at the end of the name. Think of ankylosaur, brachiosaur or tyrannosaur.
I remember thinking that this movie is bad but I never watched it but when I watched, I felt so stupid because the movie was really good
I remember seeing this movie in theaters when it was initially released.
This is genuinely my favourite movie ever, and I'll eternally be annoyed at the world for neglecting it to such an extreme.
The part about lips reminds me, in Dinosaur Train the Pteranodons' beaks flex at the tips and it looks so wrong.
3:42 funny enough they were originally going to have the beaks and it looked good so idk y they went with the lips.
