I think the Great Valley Adventure had a missed opportunity; instead of Littlefoot immediatly accepting Chomper, he should hate him. Think about it, he saw his mother being attacked by the Sharptooth, who's also a T-Rex. I think it would've been interesting if Littlefoot learns to not judge someone for the actions of another.
Journey Through the Mists had a similar missed opportunity with Ali. I'm sure we've all heard the comparisons before, but Ali could have been (and in many ways is) to Littlefoot what Faline is to Bambi and what Nala is to Simba. Sure, the fact that they're all still kids would hinder that, but still.
Yes, and no in the same time. Sure, Littlefoot could be, legitimaly, pissed off by Sharptooth in general. But here, with Chomper, it with a specimen that just hatched and who have (and still to these day) ANY blood from whatever herbivore on its hands. That wouldn't be legitimate that Littlefoot hate one sharptooth that did anything bad yet. That would be universal racism at a high degree. You really imagine that in this franchise ? So, we have such theme here and here, especially in these very first movies, but that was always in a soft and low level, enough low to be scrapped overtime, and give the educative messages. I don't think that would be fitting or possible to include a high level of racism inside the franchise. Think all about this. If Littlefoot don't hate at sigh at the first seconds Chomper despite the latter being a sharptooth, and even want to help him, that show how open, disinterested and responsible Littlefoot is, like his mother would want him to be. And the fact that he made distinction between sharptooth is good too. He don't place everyone in the same basket. Also, Littlefoot himself directly mention that he want and that its possible to made Chomper a sharptooth that will not hunt and eat others dinosaurs, that there maybe a possibility to made him like them. Due to being an hatchling at this point. Which will be effective at the end as the latter entries show it. With Chomper, which have been born sourounded by herbivores that decided to be friend with him despite of its nature, will refute to eat herbivores and only eat insects instead. Here, we have a sort of message that run throughtout the entire franchise instead of one message that only count for one movie.

Maybe it's my nostalgia speaking, but I honestly didn't mind that Grandpa Longneck didn't die at the end of Journey Through the Mists. I think that his illness raised the stakes compared to some of the other sequels, and that made it rewarding when the gang found the flowers and saved his life at the end of the film. I'm also glad that Littlefoot didn't lose any more parental figures.
These movies were a huge part of my childhood and my lifelong love for dinosaurs. I used to watch the first six movies on loop as a kid. My mom even used to record them onto VHS when they showed on tv. Sure, the sequels have that “direct to video” energy, but the original is a timeless masterpiece.
It sucks that we lost 19 minutes of footage from the first movie because Spielberg thought it was too scary for the kids. And much of it involved Sharptooth. Time of the Great Giving is still my favorite of the sequels. I always enjoyed the bullies, especially their song "When You're Big".
My grandpa always recorded these movies for me on VHS when they were shown in television. When i slept at my grandparents home we always watched one of them in the evening. One of my best Childhood memories.
Minor correction in the heartwarming tribute you gave at 4:49-5:10: Judith Barsi died before The Land Before Time was released. She died on July 25, 1988, but the film didn't come out, until November 18, 1988.
While the first was always my favourite, as I've grown older, I have really begun to appreciate how dark and dreary that movie is. Like, it's kinda alien compared to it's sequels. Still really liked some of the later movies.... and some I never liked....
One thing I like about the first land before time is that it shows that sauropods are no pushovers, they can easily clobber a T. Rex with a whack of their tails.
The Land Before Time along with Ice Age and Disney's Dinosaur were iconic parts of my childhood. this alone make me want to see an updated animated film or series about prehistoric creatures. form seeing villains like a Gigantopithecus voiced by Peter Dinklage to a Nyctosaurus voiced by Steve Zahn makes me want to see more.
Petrie and the Struthiomimmus brothers are my absolute favorite characters !!! I love how Ozzy and Strut´s colors reminds the Coelophisis from Walking with Dinosaurs and their music, and also, how they are the smartest of all the creatures in the franchise, since they, ad least from what I remember, are the only ones who knows which species they are.
I think a possible solution for the ending of the fourth movie would be to have granps pass on, but his illness spread to grandma, so dhey cure her instead, giving dhe adventure a meaning widhout missing dhe theme of death.

My best guess with Spike is that the film producers looked at Stegosaurus and went "well it has a small head and a big body so it must be stupid" or something along those lines
I still remember when I was little and my grandma bought me CD version of the first The Land Before Time movie. Now I'm almost 19 and I still live 11 the Land Before Time movies! 12,13 and 14 were really bad. Btw. Am I the only one that actually really likes fourth movie? And Ali too
I grew up with the sequels and didn’t watch the original film until I had watched pretty much all of the others. I only ever watched the first movie once as a kid because it depressed me too much. As an adult, I can say it is the only one that is a genuinely good film
I might be a bit biased. Yeah, I watched the sequels as a kid, but I owned the first one on VHS and watched it the most. It was, and still is, one of my favorite movies of all time. None of the sequels come close to comparison, no matter how interesting the lore may get.
It funny looking how hips design compares the more accurate design today we have for hypsilophodon. I know this series uses old-fashioned designs and that part of its charm imo. But hips before and after pictures are hilariously different.
There was a 90 Minute version of the 89 movie that has never been released, but I hope it will be someday Also our concrete Angel Yep Yep Yep 😢. 5:12 I completely agree with that 1.
The Land Before Time was such a huge part of my childhood, i watched them so frequently that my parents wouldnt let me hire it from the video rental store. Yes, thats my age. These movies are two years older than me.
Journey through the Mists was the one entry that i haven't gotten to watch, so it got me curious to learn more about it. Bummer to hear that it was a missed opportunity.
I use to watch the first seven movies a lot as a kid, and the original is still a wonderful work of art. Haven't seen much of the sequels in recents years outside of clips and reviews, but I may watch them in full at some point. At least Chomper is still endearing and the Struthiomimus duo are still fun to watch, especially for Jeff Bennett and Rob Paulsen's performances.
Regarding the illness of Grandpa longneck, I read that LBT 3 & 4 were in production at the same time, and could have actually been released in the opposite order with "Great Giving" as the fourth. I believe that sparing Grandpa longneck could have been because he would have been needed to get through to Daddy Topps in "Great Giving". That is, IF they were to have been released after "Land of Mists". Now that's just a theory, I only know for certain they were in production simultaneously, and almost were released in the opposite order. How they affected each other's story structure is just conjecture.
these movies is what made me love dinosaurs in the first place and i grew up with these movies have them all on dvd sadly not blu ray i didnt knew what dinosaurs they where at age 5 only i knew cera as a treehorn littlefoot as a longneck it was only later i lerned littlefoot was a apatosaurus ? and cera a triceratops why those 2 is some of my favorite dinosour today chomper as well
I remember one where they were in a canyon and i think there was 2 carnosaurs chasing them, or maybe some other dinosaurs. I used to own all of them before i sold them all
“The whole movie is only 69 minutes” *subtitles at the bottom* nice I’m not watching this since I was totally oblivious to the sequels and will finish this once I see those
i was born in 2002 so its fun trying to remember which movies i owned or watched and if i remember anything about them or if i liked them or not. Of the first 4 the original i always liked the best and watched the most, 2 i remember enjoying a good amount too, 3 i remember having but didn't watch it much. I don't remember 4 AT ALL only recognizing the title when it was put on screen
Personally, I think the first is my fav. With a close second being V (The Mysterious Island) and my third being the one with the swimming marine reptile that doesn't talk (I still have no idea what dino it is and what the movie is called). My fav is the first because it's one of the only movies where the Sharptooth actually feels like it's trying to kill the group. In all the other, the Sharptooth just stand there for like 10 seconds before trying to attack, just to miss. The first Sharptooth is actually attacking and trying to kill the group. My second fav is the fifth movie because I just liked it as a kid so I have some nostalgia lol. But I like Chomper, his parents, and the Giga. That's it. My third fav is the one with the swimming marine reptile (that doesn't talk) because ig I just like sea creatures. Idk, I thought it was cool (and also liked it as a kid - call me bias for having some nostalgia, but it doesn't make it bias!
Bruh these movies (up to 12) were my favorites. I’m not blinded to their faults now but I’ll probably never get this attached to fictional characters again
When I wake up First thing I do Eggs Is to look around For something to chew "Eggs-actly" Feeding myself is very, very tricky Because you see, I'm ridculously picky Eggs
Oh yes, land before time that’s how I got into dinosaurs are least it was one of them my cousins actually used to have the land before time VHS is until they gave them to me. I still have them but I’m getting rid of them as a matter fact when I was a kid, the sharptooth design from the original and in the 90s are specifically talking about the black green shark tooth. Whatever you want to call it looks scary looking, but those red eyes teeth and sound. When I was a kid I used to think that grandpa Lanez voice sounds like my grandfather, which unfortunately he passed away back in 2016 but no and Mr. three Horn. I do like the character of him at times, but he can be a bit of a douche bag at times as a matter of fact, I actually like all of the sequels from the 90s and in the early 2000s but some of the early 2000s went haywire, which you’ll talk about later, but overall land before Time the first one and the fourth sequels are pretty good to this very day
I find it funny how for me, despite being a long time dinosaur enthusiast, only watched the first LBT very recently. So it was never a childhood thing for me. I did watch another LBT movie
Will you do the TV Show that occurred between the 13th and 14th movie as well? All the episodes are on UA-cam and give much needed context for characters in the 14th movie as well, while also bringing back some old characters for certain episodes, and the series as a whole actually not being bad, many episodes were quite enjoyable last I remember.
Honestly, the general take of the Direct-To-Video sequels, with the tone more soft, light-hearted, fun and with the full-on songs here and here, isn't bad at all ! And work for the entire of them ! And is better, as a move and direction/artistic choice for a direct-to-video production than the scary, more serious and eerie atmosphere of the very first, which was a theatrical/cinema movie release. To be completely honest and objective, I don't think that would have being good to have the same exact atmopshere and tone and format than the first movie for the remaining of the franchise, even for most of the sequels, and that would have work long for them on the duration. And yet, even with the overal different tone of the sequels, we still get very serious or dark moments, themes, high emotional and educative messages throughout regulary. Like when Littlefoot meet for the first time his dad in "The Great Longneck Migration", which is an entry pretty far in the franchise.
Wow, Red Raptor, I got to say. I really was excited to see this review. I honestly do enjoy the Land Before Time and a lot of what you said is why I like the series. The original is definitely in my top three due to not being a fan of the sing alongs and being too g rated moving forward but I can see why they changed it and I'm fine with it for the most part. The Great Valley Adventure I forgot how good this sequel was and honestly between the egg references from TheGamingBeaver and the introduction of Chomper and his parents, solid film. Plus this introduced the idea when I was a kid of T-Rex being caring parents and between Chomper's parents and the Buck and Doe from the Lost World, I can see both why I like T-Rex families plus the color green on the tyrant king. The Time of the Great Giving was ok, not as good but I agree with adding character development to Cera's Dad and especially with Grandpa Longneck, who's my favorite character of the series as he reminds me of my grandpa. They both are identical minus one being a human and the other an Apatosaurus. Plus seeing raptors in the series was cool. The fourth film is where the series drops the ball for me as well. It had some good but it had its mistakes as well. Just glad Grandpa Longneck didn't die, I get it would've made sense, but losing him would have ended my enjoyment for the series because I genuinely love his character. But yeah the film started strong then came to a halt once the second act started. Excited to see 5,6,7 and 8 get reviewed. Until then, keep up your dinotastic content, stay safe and have a wonderful day. See ya next time.
I can't watch the first because I cry way too much to this day ,fuck Bambi, little foot's mom has a sadder death 😭 I still can't get through the movie without crying
The Struthiomimus Ozzy and Strut aren't killed at the end of the second movie. They appears in cameo in some of the next entries, like at 19:24, in the fourth movie, "Journey througt the Mist", and one episode of the TV series. But personally, I was, and still is, alway sad and pissed of about the fact that Strut, the younger of the duo, which is prety clearly established to be the gentle, nice and reasonable one, end up being punished equally at the end along with his brother Ozzy, whith everything bad that fall to them (when they made theri "suicid", are hunted by Chomper parents, or in the single episode of the TV series that made their last appearance). Honestly, Strut didn't deserved at all what happen to him everytime. Only Ozzy deserved all the punishements he get at the end. Because Strut is alway forced by Ozzy to help him in his bad actions and shenanigans, while him jsut want to fit and eat leaves, and not bother the other dinos. Because of that, I will never even call Strut a antagonist or villain, only just Ozzy since he's the leader of the two, is indeed bad, egoist, vicious, have "ideas" like someone that believe to be superiors to the others, to be above the others, and would not be embarassed to have his hand dirty to reach his goal. Because the movies and franchise as a whole have always right the start pose this ying-yang relationship between the two brothers, I always find pretty badly written that Strut end up anyway being punished like if he was like his brother and a great missoppotunity that he didn't either get a story arc. A story-arc like he would at the end being pissed off by his brother and finally put him at his place, and forced him to stop his "superior ideas about eggs" and to now only eat meat. A little in the same vibes with what we get in Ice Age 5 Collision Course (decent movie btw), when with thew flying dinosaurs raptors Roger and his Dad, Gavin, and Sister, Gertie. With Gavin and Gertie, being eggs-stealer, being dominants over Roger, who him want to live a honorable life, that is forced to follow them in their plans o kill Buck the weasel and let the asteroid kill all the people of the planet to become the new kings of this world. At the very end, Roger end up finally have the power and to rebel against his Dad and managed to convince him to help the protagonnists to save the planet. They could have did that in the TV series to made a some sort of closure pay off to Strut and Ozzy entire story in the franchise as a whole. That would have been nice. Because it alway haetwarming and fun to see a bullied character tortured for the sake of comedy finally winning over the other character that usually shine (like Tom over Jerry in some episode of their show).
My Ranking: 1.) The Land Before Time 9/10, The Big Freeze 9/10, The Mysterious Island 8,5/10 2.) The Great Valley Adventure 8/10, The Time of the Great Giving 8/10, The Great Longneck Migration 8/10, Journey Through the Mists 8/10 3.) The Land Before Time feels like one of those animated movies that's about visuals first, story second. Look at how much the dinosaurs stretch, or how they hatch from eggs in exaggerated ways, or all the extended sequences about background creatures.
I still blame Don bluth and this first film in particular for my wild amounts of anticipatory grief that his estate should be forced to pay for my therapy, utilities, groceries, AND vices for life.
Ok, so this is spooky. Never heard of your channel before, but I use the name Red Raptor for some of my mechs in games. Spike is definitely a special needs child. An ADOPTED special needs child, as well. Also, I had no issues with the first movie when I watched it at age 5-6. In fact, I really liked it. My character ranking, worst to best: Cera < Littlefoot < Spike < Ducky < Petrie.

Now that's just a theory, I only know for certain they were in production simultaneously, and almost were released in the opposite order. How they affected each other's story structure is just conjecture.
At long last we finally found the great valley.
The first Land Before Time is one of if not the best animated movies of all time.
Poor Judith she was a sweet girl. I know the story well. But I do like this explanation and this video you have made.
I for one enjoyed all four of these.
The Land Before Time and an American Tale were the first movies I saw at the cinema. It's interesting to hear they were made by the same person.
Growing up, my favorite one was journey through the mists
When I move to where I live right now and we got tv the first thing I did was binged watch the land before time movies
these movies is what made me love dinosaurs in the first place and i grew up with these movies have them all on dvd sadly not blu ray i didnt knew what dinosaurs they where at age 5 only i knew cera as a treehorn littlefoot as a longneck it was only later i lerned littlefoot was a apatosaurus ? and cera a triceratops why those 2 is some of my favorite dinosour today chomper as well
The reason what it has a fast pace is because there were lots of scenes that were cut out for being to scare and not have plot to the movie
I remember one where they were in a canyon and i think there was 2 carnosaurs chasing them, or maybe some other dinosaurs. I used to own all of them before i sold them all
“The whole movie is only 69 minutes”
*subtitles at the bottom* nice
I’m not watching this since I was totally oblivious to the sequels and will finish this once I see those
I used to watch this years ago and I had a few on video but not anymore, boy Littlefoot’s mother’s death still holds up
I also have that exact DVD kit which I got from walmart years ago.
Had a single random thought about this movie this morning, never told anyone but I got recommended this…
i was born in 2002 so its fun trying to remember which movies i owned or watched and if i remember anything about them or if i liked them or not. Of the first 4 the original i always liked the best and watched the most, 2 i remember enjoying a good amount too, 3 i remember having but didn't watch it much. I don't remember 4 AT ALL only recognizing the title when it was put on screen
These are great! you should put the full 4-part series into a standalone playlist :D
When I wake up
First thing I do

Feeding myself is very, very tricky
Because you see, I'm ridculously picky
Eggs
The childhood movie where I met the animal that gave my trauma and became my fav dino of all time
Everyone as a kid had bad tastes. I ignored cowboy bebop every time it showed on adult swim because it wasn't family guy
Oh spike, I remmber in one of the films he finaly speaks when she is trouble.
Spike's Spike man, nuff said
Oh that first movie. Crying my eyes out as a kid. Now maybe do the same. Up for rewatch.
Omg yesss my childhood just got reawakened
Lol that's how I feel when I see salads. We need Meat Damn it. Lol.
Ducky voice actress was in jaws the revenge too
Will you do the TV Show that occurred between the 13th and 14th movie as well? All the episodes are on UA-cam and give much needed context for characters in the 14th movie as well, while also bringing back some old characters for certain episodes, and the series as a whole actually not being bad, many episodes were quite enjoyable last I remember.
man one of my child hood favorite movies i wonder what ever happend to them also love the tv series

Blizzard in a nutshell
THE MYSTERIOUS BEYOOOOOND
My favorite sequels are
The Secret of Saurus rock
And The Great Long neck migration
Land before 1 had some scenes in different order like when sharp tooth losses his eye but in a early scene sharp tooth is missing a eye
Mr. 3 Horn was unstoppable and would’ve been useful in Avengers Endgame.
You know when I was a kid i always thought little foot was a girl for some reason 😅
I’d rather watch the 1st Land Before Time movie than the 13 infamous direct to sequels
fun fact: both Jurassic World and land before time are owned by universal two famous dinosaur franchise owned by the same studios
Forest Gump @6:40
"Strong like Sarah" 😂
I still have mine especially the first movie I keep watching them on the VCR
Sarah is a royalist and little foot is a revolutionary
My Ranking:
1.) The Land Before Time 9/10, The Big Freeze 9/10, The Mysterious Island 8,5/10
2.) The Great Valley Adventure 8/10, The Time of the Great Giving 8/10, The Great Longneck Migration 8/10, Journey Through the Mists 8/10
3.) Journey of the Brave 7,5/10, Journey to the Big Water 7,5/10, The Great Day of the Flyers 7/10, The Land Before Time (show) 7/10
4.) The Stone of Cold Fire 6,5/10, The Secret of Saurus Rock 6,5/10, Invasion of the Tinysauruses 6,5/10
5.) Wisdom of Friends 6/10
I also watched land before time after 17 years
1 makes me want to eat leaves and grass. I did, and they taste awful, but EVERYTIME I watched it I want to again.
The best dinosaur animated film series
The Land Before Time feels like one of those animated movies that's about visuals first, story second. Look at how much the dinosaurs stretch, or how they hatch from eggs in exaggerated ways, or all the extended sequences about background creatures.
The first movie is great, what are you talking about?
@@ExtremeMadnessX I wasn't criticising it, just making an observation.
I still blame Don bluth and this first film in particular for my wild amounts of anticipatory grief that his estate should be forced to pay for my therapy, utilities, groceries, AND vices for life.
Finally land before time
1:51 LMAO I love this edit😂🤣
I loved the Land Before Time movies.
Ok, so this is spooky. Never heard of your channel before, but I use the name Red Raptor for some of my mechs in games. Its been a long while now, but Armored Core 6 just came out and am using the name again after many years. Seems youtube has been listening in on me again lol 😅. Bonus points on me being a dino nerd 😂. Guess you got a sub. 👍
(My online game name is Furious Kaiser. I only use Red Raptor as a name for mechs I build that are red/black tiger striped and are super speedy lightweight types. So just a happy coincedence on names.)
After you finished the Land Before Time videos, do Animal Armageddon. No rush
Am i the only one who gets sad af listening to Peaceful Valley lol?
Every time i hear it i just long for being a kid again.
