Exactly. When I was a kid, I assumed that the iguanodons were roughly the size of a horse, or smaller. Especially when compared to the Carnotaurs. I didn’t realize that they made the Carnos a little bigger than a real T. rex at the time. (I was a kid, so I also sucked at gauging sizes when there’s little to no frame of reference.) The cameo of Aladar at the Disney anniversary truly did touch my heart too bringing back great memories of that movie amongst others. Yes, the story is simple but the details in the background as well as nuances in the characters' expressions mean that there's always something to pick up on rewatches that will make people appreciate the movie more. I never realised the scout was eaten alive onscreen until Dino Guy brought it up. They managed to actually get away with SHOWING the scout get torn apart in a children's movie.
Diesney Dinosaur is a really underrated movie. In fact I was surprised how much it made in theaters. I think the reason people don't talk about it is because of Jurassic Park.
My sort-of theory for Kron and Bruton's nasal structures is that maybe they're something that only appears on big, mature iguanodon bulls, or even something that's triggered by high testosterone. Aladar, as a young adult, may just not be old enough to have a nasal ridge, but could grow one once he's in his prime.
Could also be a dominance thing. Mandrills who lead their troops will have much redder and colorful faces compared to mandrills who don't; when a mandrill overtakes leadership, their face will redden to reflect that. Could be a similar thing, with Bruton and Kron possesing the bosses/nasal structures because they lead the herd.

One of my favorite things i like about this movie is something i dont see many people mention: the sound design. Especially the few times we hear parasaurolophus, its actually imo the most accurate sounding version i've heard
This was my favorite movie as a kid, I watched it over and over and over and I played the PS2 video game constantly, it's literally my childhood. The music especially, the desert journey song is like the textbook "on a big walk/journey" song for me (and even my parents lol). Seeing Aladar in Once upon a studio made me so happy, like they included my boy! Definitely underrated imo, and its one of the reasons Iguanodon is one of my favorites.
As a lifelong fan of this movie, I'm incapable of giving an unbiased opinion on it. 😅 The score, the animation, the sets, the intense scenes, the sheer animalistic brutality of it all ....top notch movie.
Dinosaur was the very first movie I saw in theaters when it came out so maybe it has a few bias points from that but I really found it amazing to watch. I also lived in one of the area where the movie was shot, (The sequence where Aladar ran from the raptors and encountered the herd) and for a high school field trip in my filmmaking class, we went out to the area and got to explore the area ourselves so that was very special to me.
This movie got me into paleontology and i absolutely love it faults and all. That opening scene was everything to me as a kid the artsyle was and still is my favorite artsyle of any paleo media with prehistoric park the video game being a close second.
Here's something that always confuses me though In the cave scene, while Aladar looks for Bruton's body in the rocks, you see one of the Carno's body laying dead, and when the big one breaks out, you see another dead one's head just nearby Aladar's while he stares at a rock pile that seems like the Carno is breaking out of there when really he's left to Aladar and not far away either it seems It's so confusing, it makes it seem like there are two dead bodies, and two alive ones Can anyone explain?
Sorry nobody answered yet but I will give my two scents... I know what you mean. It does seem weird. My guess is its just the angles playing tricks on our eyes or maybe it was an oversight from the artists. Another possibility is they maybe took another shot out of the film and stitched what was left in there and it creates that illusion but I really cant say as it always confused me as well.
This movie is profoundly underrated and misunderstood. It is a landmark film and Aladar-Kron relationship dynamic is super realistic. If you’ve ever dealt with a strongman leader type
Yes!!! This aspect doesn’t get talked about enough. Throughout my life, I’ve felt like my dad has a lot in common with Kron. Strong leader, but many times can be too strong and forceful. And very short tempered. (Thankfully, dad has slowly mellowed to some extent. He’s not quite as quick to anger as he used to be. Could be due to his age, or experience. But still not a person you’d wanna irritate.)
I had no clue the beaks on the Iguanadons were present at all until just now. I honestly do love the movie and do agree that there should've been a bit more character development but overall I'd recommend it to anyone really. Also there's a dark deleted scene involving what I read were Aladar's grandparents who literally sacrifice themselves to the Carnotaurus couple so the rest of the herd can get away.
I agree that Dinosaur is heavily underrated. It’s very creative how they filmed live action backgrounds and animated the characters with CGI, which is a unique choice for a Disney animated film, the soundtrack by James Newton Howard is really epic and dramatic, and the action scenes are quite intense, but awesome at the same time, since it shows Disney was willing push the boundaries of family friendly entertainment. While the story may seem basic and predictable at first glance, it’s not terrible, and most of the characters are still decent and likable (though I’m not the biggest fan of the lemur Zini and his attempts at being funny). I especially like Aladar, Eema, Baylene, Bruton, and the Carnotaurs for what they bring to the story. I also really like how this movie features the clash of two ideologies and how it’s not necessarily one ideology coming out on top over the other, but rather the mixture of both ideologies that determines the outcome. Also, as a dino fan, this movie had a huge impact on me since it introduced me to some of the species featured, like Carnotaurus, Pachyrhinosaurus, and Microceratus. So yeah, while this isn’t the best movie that Disney has made, it’s not the worst either. I think this movie should be given some recognition every now and then, and I give Disney a lot of credit for trying something different with their animated storytelling for this film, so there’s that too. May that one Pachyrhinosaurus rest in peace.
I watched this movie a couple of times, but personally I never really liked it that much, maybe because it wasn't as good as Jurassic Park or Land Before time? I loved dinosaurs as a kid and I still do, so I could watch it, but right now I'm more interested in documentaries with more information than a movie mostly for entertainment. Also, if I didn't like it that much back then, I don't know if I would like it today.
If there's something I remember about this movie are the carnotaurus, this is one of the first tims I saw carnotaurus, and they were great. (This movie has two carnos right? Or I'm confused with Dino Stalker? 🤨😅
@@shidanslair Yes the carnos are 2. This is something the studio should have worked on a bit more. I've always wondered are the two a pair (cause they are a bigger and a smaller one), have they been together as a result of the meteor etc. Also I wish more of the dinos had lines, cause all the iguanodons except Aladar, Neera and Kron and Bruton look visually the same.
This movie was the biggest part of my childhood along with Toy Story and later the Jurassic Park trilogy, It's sad how underrated it was, I use to have many copies from VHS to DVD's which i still own some to this day, It's so cool it's on Disney + just like other films that everyone may have forgotten that they existed The dinosaurs may not be 100 % accurate but still an interesting movie, I'm happy that Disney's Once Upon a Studio short did not forget about Aladar as he and his lemur family where shortly scene in the end But it may not have Neera, Emma, Earl plus Baileen ( Sorry for misspell ) and the Carnotauruses but that's fine since at least we saw Aladar and the lemurs
I think the iguanadons are onto something when it comes to heard formation. The slowest are always picked off in the back,so bring slow but powerful dinosaurs with you,and the three present are the last thing carnivores would think of hunting a brachiosaurus that could crush them with ease,a styracosaurus that could impale them and make them bleed in seconds, and an ankylosaur that could break their legs and leave them crippled for life
The only thing I don’t like about this movie is those 2 ichthyornises making the Geosternbergia (Pteranodon Sternbergi) drop the egg Aladar was in it would be better if a lighting strike made the Geosternbergia drop the egg overall It’s a good movie it reminds me of Camp Cretaceous
"This movie is rated PG, but..." _Laughs in Watership Down_ But really, this is a good movie! I could've done without the "love monkey," but otherwise, it's totally rewatchable!
Dinosaur I watched it alot in my childhood I still have the VHS and Is on my top 10 VHS I own and is one of my prized possessions land before time is still my number 1 VHS
Disneys Dinosaur is one of my favorite childhood Dinosaur movies and is heavily underrated in my opinion. yes true, there are some innacuracies and some minor plot issues but i didnt mind as much because it was just an excuse to watch a dinosaurmovie and its very entertaining, and like you said in the video, some very intense moments. now that you mentioned it in the video, that part were the dinosaur scout gets eaten whilst Bruton is attacked, i NEVER seen that dinosaur getting eaten, i was too busy to watch Bruton fight so this is my actual first time i knew about that little detail, so thank you for pointing that out. but its indeed one of the more memorable scenes and very intense and actually pretty scary. also love the soundtrack.
Watched it with my mother and while we enjoyed it, we do wish that Kron hadn’t died at the end. He kind of just gets thrown at a rock, perishing on impact. It would’ve said a lot if he’d been allowed to learn that standing for those weaker than you was a good thing.
I love Kron's death scene. Not because I hated him or even disliked him. Despite how stupidly stubborn he was, he didn't deserve to die and the little moments of vulnerability he showed occasionally, especially after Neera knocked him away from Aladar and you can see in his face that he's genuinely hurt, made him feel like he wasn't just a one note bully. I do wish they'd kept the deleted scene that showed him going back for Neera when she rushed to rescue the baby Iguanadon but the facial animation, which is excellent in this movie, was still enough to show that Kron wasn't as heartless as he pretended to be. However, I still love the scene because of how brutally realistic it was. Kron had no tragic last words, no time to make amends for his behaviour, and the last thing he saw was his sister throwing herself into a Carnotaur that could rip her to shreds. As far as he knew, Neera was about to die alongside him and there was nothing he could do about it. Kron didn't live long enough to see Aladar rescue her, so his last thoughts would have been something along the lines of "my sister is going to die and it's all my fault!" It took HUGE balls to put such a dark death scene in a children's movie. I commend the filmmakers for sticking to their guns. Bruton suffered a similarly brutal fate and had the most badass death scene in the movie by taking on two Carnotaurs at once and managing to kill one despite having only just recovered from his injuries. When I was a child, I tried writing a sequel where Bruton survived because I'd grown to like him but as an adult, I appreciate that this film didn't water things down for the kids.
If you look at the original animation test, ua-cam.com/video/O4zEFsDKx3o/v-deo.html, Noah (Aladar) still has his beak. The beak was later removed when it was decided to have the dinosaurs lip sync to their speech.
Eh, I like the coat of paint. But that’s just a personal opinion. However, the writing is where I’d love to improve. Especially the dialogue, character development & interactions, and humor.
Is it that bad? Previously, yes. But when Intrada recently released an expanded soundtrack, no. Is it underrated? Yes. But I see that some of the film's storyline is similar to The Land Before Time (both films have characters go from point A to point B).
I saw the movie like once as a teenager, and I thought it was ok. It's not all that good, but also not extremly bad, it's just kinda alright. I'm not a big fan of movies with talking dinosaurs in the first place. I prefer dinosaur documentaries.
They also didn't prolong it anymore than they needed to. There wasn't a single wasted move in that fight. It was quick, efficient and showed that Aladar was faster but couldn't match Kron's experience and brute strength.
@@tomnorton4277 They also used all of their weapons. Kron started with his teeth bitting Aladar, both of his spikes to blind and slash Aladar, and then his tail to finish him off
as someone who do really enjoy dinosaurs and movies even more, this movie is just eh i grew up with this movie and used to watch the behind the sceans everytime after the movie was done and it made me really love dinosaurs along with BBCs walking with dinosaurs and after years of not watching it i rewatched it to see if its as good as i rememberd and sadly it wasent, it only got the good looks but no substense as the story and the charakters are lacking aladar is bland, neera is just the love intrest, kron and bruton is just tough guys with bruton being the only one with actual charakter develepment i think its just mediocre and boring most of the time til we get to those rare somewhat good moments

The score, the animation, the sets, the intense scenes, the sheer animalistic brutality of it all ....top notch movie.
was my first contact with Iguanodon and Carnotaurus, really loved it
Dinosaur was the very first movie I saw in theaters when it came out so maybe it has a few bias points from that but I really found it amazing to watch.
Here's something that always confuses me though
In the cave scene, while Aladar looks for Bruton's body in the rocks, you see one of the Carno's body laying dead, and when the big one breaks out, you see another dead one's head just nearby Aladar's while he stares at a rock pile that seems like the Carno is breaking out of there when really he's left to Aladar and not far away either it seems
It's so confusing, it makes it seem like there are two dead bodies, and two alive ones
Can anyone explain?
It’s one of my favorite dinosaur movies of all, and one of my top favorite Disney movies of all, too.
Based Pachyrhinosaurus enjoyer
A very good underrated movie
This movie was the biggest part of my childhood along with Toy Story and later the Jurassic Park trilogy, It's sad how underrated it was, I use to have many copies from VHS to DVD's which i still own some to this day, It's so cool it's on Disney + just like other films that everyone may have forgotten that they existed
The dinosaurs may not be 100 % accurate but still an interesting movie, I'm happy that Disney's Once Upon a Studio short did not forget about Aladar as he and his lemur family where shortly scene in the end
But it may not have Neera, Emma, Earl plus Baileen ( Sorry for misspell ) and the Carnotauruses but that's fine since at least we saw Aladar and the lemurs
I think the iguanadons are onto something when it comes to heard formation.
The slowest are always picked off in the back,so bring slow but powerful dinosaurs with you,and the three present are the last thing carnivores would think of hunting
a brachiosaurus that could crush them with ease,a styracosaurus that could impale them and make them bleed in seconds, and an ankylosaur that could break their legs and leave them crippled for life
The only thing I don’t like about this movie is those 2 ichthyornises making the Geosternbergia (Pteranodon Sternbergi) drop the egg Aladar was in it would be better if a lighting strike made the Geosternbergia drop the egg overall It’s a good movie it reminds me of Camp Cretaceous
"This movie is rated PG, but..."
_Laughs in Watership Down_
But really, this is a good movie! I could've done without the "love monkey," but otherwise, it's totally rewatchable!
Dinosaur I watched it alot in my childhood I still have the VHS and Is on my top 10 VHS I own and is one of my prized possessions land before time is still my number 1 VHS
It's better than any crap Disney is coming out with these days.
I absolutely love this movie, it first introduced me to dinosaurs and the rest is history 😎
I LOVE DISNEY DINOSAUR, I just rewatched it yesterday, it’s still in my opinion still an underrated Disney movie!!!
I absolutely LOVED this movie as a kid.
The Carnotaurus in this movie is the best fake theropod ever put to film, the JW hybrids got nothing on these guys
Watch out for the carnotaurs 0:49
The animals are so beautiful to look at and enjoyable 3:00
The movie that gave me my fascination with Dinosaurs and Paleontology forever
It was one of my favorite Disney movies.
I love Disney's Dinosaur (2000) the classic underrated Disney animated movie.
It's a great movie. And I gave this movie an 8/10.
The amount of gore and representation of death in this film was astounding.
Kron didn't live long enough to see Aladar rescue her, so his last thoughts would have been something along the lines of "my sister is going to die and it's all my fault!"
It took HUGE balls to put such a dark death scene in a children's movie.
I hope we get Dinosaur in the next Kingdom Hearts? The Carnotaurs would be perfect as Heartless!
This was my childhood although I never understood why the made the carno absolutely massive
I was happy that carnotaurus got the love it deserved in the 2000s
This is a movie that actually needs a remake. With more tighter writing and fresh coat of paint
Eh, I like the coat of paint. But that’s just a personal opinion. However, the writing is where I’d love to improve. Especially the dialogue, character development & interactions, and humor.
Noo my baby boi
I feel the same way every time I see the brachiosaurus die in fallen Kingdom
The Handsome and the Beautiful Iguanodon
This movie is Disneys most underrated and i really enjoy it.
The score is an absolut banger.
Bro I use to go to blockbuster and rent this movie out I had all the different holo cover sleeves for the VHSs for the first JP Trilogy
I think Disney Dinosaur is a great movie for all time!👍
Is it that bad? Previously, yes. But when Intrada recently released an expanded soundtrack, no. Is it underrated? Yes. But I see that some of the film's storyline is similar to The Land Before Time (both films have characters go from point A to point B).
How is it bad, it’s been my favorite sense I was a baby.
My favorite Disney movie
I saw the movie like once as a teenager, and I thought it was ok.
It's not all that good, but also not extremly bad, it's just kinda alright.
I'm not a big fan of movies with talking dinosaurs in the first place. I prefer dinosaur documentaries.
When you outside and you smell that zaza
Hahaha! I too have a soft spot for the pachyrhinosaurus.
I LOVE THE SCORE!!!
I was one of the commenters who said that the Iguanodon had a beak in the mouth
I absolutely love this movie but the one thing I absolutely hate about it is the teeth on aladar
This dinosaur gotten eaten 1:59
I wished if Disney wasn’t always a pushover and I wished Dinosaur needed to more popular
I completely forgot this movie existed.
10:35 what?? I thought those are teeth too! Cuz there are scenes that he SMILES and with those “teeth” out…!
I just can't get over the fact that there are lemurs in the movie.
This was the sole reason i am who i am today..
So i could never not love this film
Monsters of the stone age
You should have mentioned the fight between Aladar and kron. It had its moment. There were wounds to.
They also didn't prolong it anymore than they needed to. There wasn't a single wasted move in that fight. It was quick, efficient and showed that Aladar was faster but couldn't match Kron's experience and brute strength.
@@tomnorton4277 They also used all of their weapons. Kron started with his teeth bitting Aladar, both of his spikes to blind and slash Aladar, and then his tail to finish him off
as someone who do really enjoy dinosaurs and movies even more, this movie is just eh
i grew up with this movie and used to watch the behind the sceans everytime after the movie was done and it made me really love dinosaurs along with BBCs walking with dinosaurs and after years of not watching it i rewatched it to see if its as good as i rememberd and sadly it wasent, it only got the good looks but no substense as the story and the charakters are lacking
aladar is bland, neera is just the love intrest, kron and bruton is just tough guys with bruton being the only one with actual charakter develepment
i think its just mediocre and boring most of the time til we get to those rare somewhat good moments
I love this movie!! But that might be because I really like dinosaurs
I WAS NOT ONLY EXCITED I WAS SURPRIUSED :D
i think we can all agree that this movie is better than the jw trilogy
I think its very underrated
Disney's Dinosaur is one of if not the BEST Dinosaur movie of all time Idc if Jurassic Park exists also as a fellow Pachyrhinosaurus fanboy watching it get killed it hurt my heart
Because of this movie, I found out about Pachyrhinosaurus. I thought that was the coolest looking dinosaur ever.
One of the best dino movies
This movie 🔥 one of favorites growing w
