Watching you have no idea the insane notes that are coming is amazing. Sometimes we forget how great it is to listen to something for the first time. This is why so many of us love the channel!
It's why I love these reactions. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and hear the songs I grew up on in the 70's and 80's for the first time. Seeing people react gives me a taste of that.
Right? My concerts it's a teen were all under $10 and always 2, 3 known good bands! Today ? Forget a bout it ...glad I grew up with the music I did when I did...60' ,70,s
My first concert in 1970, Grand Funk Railroad and Humble Pie tickets were $5.00. 4 months later saw Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead and Uriah Heep for $5.25. In 1973, my Aerosmith tickets were $6.95.
It's amazing that Steven Tyler wrote the lyrics to this song at 14 and finished the music as 17 or 18. Aerosmith was formed in 1970 (he was about 22) and the song was released in 1973.
Eminem used this as the basis for his 2002 song "Sing For The Moment." Steven Tyler's vocals were sampled and Joe Perry played guitar on Eminem's track.
AND it was NOT awesome. Waiting for some climax as it is in orignal version with "Dream on" words, but it never comes. Just repeating samples "sing with me, sing for..." on and on... Unnecessary rework of masterpiece song.
Try doing the country line dance “ the electric slide” to sweet emotion. It can be done, but sheesh, it’s a work out. In my day, the same dance was called “ the watergate”. A workout, no matter what you call it.
They went through some bad drug and alcohol abuse in the late 70's and were falling apart, then RUN DMC and Def Jam came along and they did the collab of Walk This Way. They came back into the rock conscious and they cleaned up and the second half of their career was huge, they really sunk their teeth in to MTV and blew away a whole new generation!
And also what came up was a beautiful daughter who acted very well in 'The Lord of The Rings'. Bad start doesn't always mean a bad end even with drugs or criminal acts. 'From blue comes out green' as one band said a time ago'.

This was the song that saved Aerosmith from being dropped by their label. Aerosmith was the band's first album, and it sold poorly, mainly because their record company didn't promote it - Columbia records was focused on Bruce Springsteen's first album (released just a week earlier) at the time. Aerosmith was in danger of being dropped, but their management convinced Columbia to release "Dream On" as a radio-friendly edited single, and it showed promise, reaching number 59 in the US.
1970's Aerosmith: Mama Kin, Draw the Line, Back in The Saddle, Toys in the Attic, Last Child, Nobody's Fault, Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way - there's an 80's version with Run DMC, that's fun. There's a start for you.
One of the things I love the most about Aerosmith, is they have remained musically relevant for decades. They have grown and changed with the times. I loved their collaboration with Run DMC in the 90's as much as their old tunes. I'm glad you got to sample their older work!
As a true child of the 70's, I spent my teen years rocking to these guys in the 70's. The Aerosmith of the 70's is indeed the most iconic Aerosmith. Still in my play list, still rocking to this and raised my children (in their 30's now) rocking to everything from Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and Foghat to George Strait, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson. I even have some Eminem & Beastie Boys. All music has a little bit for everyone. But 70's classic rock is my heart. Thank you for your videos. I'm enjoying them greatly.
During Eminem's induction at the R&R Hall of Fame, Steve Tyler sang with him, Em did get permission. Still one of my fave things here is when you realize you heard a song/beat in a different format🤘😆. Glad you getting more Aerosmith since they can't tour any more cos of Tyler's vocal chord issue 😥. This is hands down my fave band. The original "Walk This Way" i think would be a good listen for you. The Toys in the Attic album is great. 40!

"Rag Doll" is a fun Aerosmith video! "Dream On" live when Steven's voice matured (and they had all cleaned up) is a-m-a-z-i-n-g! "Dream On" is a solid rock classic, it came to Steven in a dream and when he awoke he penned it immediately!
Saw them in concert 3 times. They put on a hellava good show. One concert, Steven came down from the ceiling playing the piano to start off this song. This is my favorite Aerosmith song and one of my all time favorite songs.

It's so interesting seeing this from an opposite perspective. See I grew up listening to all these songs and when the rap samples came out; half the time I'd feel like I had a bad taste in my mouth after hearing what they did to 'my' classic favorites, of course it was all bias, as when an artist I liked did it; it was like a shout out. Lmao. Still, very interesting seeing you experience it in reverse..
Aerosmith took part in the mixing of rock with rap. Their mingling their classic "Walk This Way" with Run DMC back in the day was a huge breakthrough mixing rock and classic. Listen to the classic song first, then the video with Run DMC.
One of the greatest songs ever. Wrote it when he was 17... Check out more of the old stuff, "Last Child,,Big Ten Inch, Train kept a Rolling, etc"... Great stuff with no tricks. Just straight up playing and singing
Thank you. I'm delighted that you're finally understanding the beef that rock and rollers have with rap music and sampling. It's only an homage if you're giving credit and everything else is theft and glory on everyone else's coattails. And I appreciate that you are getting the backstory on music that you've been involved in for so long. You've thrown the doors wide open and in turn your career as a content and music Creator just went over 9000! 😊
I've been listening to Aerosmith since waaay back (1st concert 1974) & always loved their sound ! But my husband used to call their more recent stuff Sobersmith. I love it all & I'm so glad they made the decision that have kept them here & still making great music!
Aerosmith had an awesome song that Steven Tyler just couldn't think of lyrics for, so the band took a break and went to the movies, watching a Frankenstein Movie. Years later, this little known genre of music was gaining a larger and larger fan base but hadn't had much success getting played on National Radio. A little group by the name Run DMC collabed with Aerosmith and remade the song inspired by Frankenstein and it BLEW TF UP! "Walk This Way" is Rap History, would love to see you react to it (if you've never heard/seen it), or "review" it just so more people see/hear it.
You would probably remember the song Walk This Way that they remade with Run DMC. One of my favorite covers ever. Also, Sweet Emotions was another popular song by them in the 70's.
When they recorded this, Steven Tyler was an ‘established’ musician. He can play any instrument. Sing. Dance. Write songs. Production. This was the first time the band members recorded in a studio. They were raw. Steven said the band was so nervous they’d freeze as soon as the red light came on (indicating they were recording). Finally Steven climbed up on an amp and covered the red light up with a piece of tape. Their first album is a masterpiece imo. One of my favorites.
Regarding Eminem's song "Sing for the Moment", the intro was replayed, the hook was sampled. You can clearly hear that it is Steven Tyler's voice in the sampled hook on "Sing for the moment". In fact, for at least one performance, Steven Tyler performed with Eminem to sing the hook live for this song. An even more obvious example of a hip hop act replaying or sampling from Aerosmith is the Run D.M.C cover of "Walk this Way". Steven Tyler and Joe Perry (Aerosmith lead guitarist) even appear and perform in the Run D.M.C. video of the song. I own most of the earlier Aerosmith albums. I do love "Dream On", but I would not say that it is typical of their earlier music. Most of their earlier music had a harder rock sound.
The story from guitarist Joe Perry is that when singer Steven Tyler heard the song "You See Me Crying" he commented that the song was outta sight. We should cover it. Perry asked what do you mean. Steven asked who had recorded the original. Perry said, Are you kidding? That was us dude. Kids. Using mass quantities of drugs takes it's toll.
All great song have been sampled, as you are coming to find out! Aerosmith was my first concert, yes there is a very big difference between 70's and 80's Aerosmith. They felt they had to change with the times I guess. Thank you for all your reactions. much appreciated!
Yes I'm finding out from these reaction channels and am shocked at how many think the person sampling is the originator...give credit where credit is due...
One of the best songs ever written musically and lyrically! CLASSIC Aerosmith! This song is even better if you check out live versions or even Steven doing a solo effort. His voice kills!
This is such an iconic song!!! I believe if you wanna hear a great homage to Steven Tyler and Aerosmith, you should listen to Morgan James and Postmodern Jukebox paying tribute to this song
Steven Tyler wrote this song when he was just a young teenager and when his band were looking for songs and Steven sat at the piano and played this and they knew that it was going to be huge!!!! AND IT WAS ONE OF THE BIGGEST HITS IN HISTORY !!!!
He did another video of this song. He was older (a later video) done with a children's choir that was a special. Absolutely beautiful version of this classic song.
Steven Tyler says that "Dream On" is the only song on Aerosmith's debut album where he uses his "real voice." On all the other songs, he lowered his voice a bit, explaining that he felt insecure about the sound of his voice on tape. Aerosmith first performed "Dream On" at the "Shaboo Inn" in Willimantic, Connecticut in November 1971. Tyler remembers that the band was paid $175 and a bottle of gin for the show...and that they had a hotel room for the night.
There is a version with an orchestra with Aerosmith. When it was done the bass player turned to Steven Tyler and said "Now that song is finished." They always said for 30 years that it wasn't finished. Now it is. That is an awesome version. You will love Sweet Emotion. That is in that time frame. LOVE that song. I have seen Aerosmith in concert with Guns N'Roses opening. Wild show. Steven Tyler in his late 60's running up and down that stage for 2 straight hours. Wore me out just watching him.
Dream On was from their debut album. That's how they kept making great music. They didn't stick with one sound. Their Permanent Vacation album in '87 really kind of re-launched their popularity from the 70s with Rag Doll, Angel and Dude (Looks Like a Lady). Pump brought us Love In An Elevator, What It Takes, and The Other Side. Get A Grip brought us Crazy (with his daughter Liv and actress Alicia Silverstone in the video), Cryin' (again Alicia Silverstone in the video), Eat the Rich, Livin' on the Edge, and Amazing (also with Alicia Silverstone for the video). Check out Sweet Emotion, Back in the Saddle and Walk This Way and then check out their cover of The Beatles' Come Together.
In the reaction, you talked about listening to this song on a spaceship. It reminded me that a classic rock song has left the solar system. In 1977, NASA launched the two voyager probes. Both probes carried a gold-plated record disc. It included hello in languages from around the world. In addition to 'The Magic Flute" by Mozart, the record contains one of rock's earliest classics, "Johnny Be Good" by Chuck Berry. On August 12, 2012, Voyager 1 left the solar system. In the far distant future, elsewhere in the galaxy aliens could be rocking out to Chuck Berry. Kinda makes you feel good.
Saw Steven Tyler preform several years ago with an all girl band at Laconia new Hampshire during bike week. Still sounded great and crowd size was maybe 1500 people. Good time
Eminem used elements from different Rock songs in his catalog. I've always said Eminem could release a Rap/Rock compilation album. "Crazy in Love" used the chorus for "Crazy on You" by Heart. "Thank You" by Dido was used in "Stan" "Toy Soldiers" by Martika was used in "Like Toy Soldiers" "The Stroke" by Billy Squier was used in Berserk "I Love Rock and Roll " by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts was used in "Remind Me" "Changes" by Black Sabbath (Ozzy Osbourne) was used in "Going Through Changes ' "Time of the Season " by The Zombies was used in "Rhyme or Reason" "Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel was used in "Darkness " I know there's more too
6:35 he also used Martika - Toy Soldiers on Encore. A note on the end: man you have FAR more than two years of classic rock reactions to go through, probably just in terms of Floyd, Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, ELO, ELP, Supertramp, and on and on. Those bands alone put out 45-50 albums all told.
Eminem did sample this! There is method to the madness when he samples anything. He is so in tune with the meaning of the lyrics and songs he samples. Aerosmith was introduced to me by my piano teacher. It’s what made me want to learn. My dad lost his 💩 😂 Love seeing your reactions ♥️🤘🏻Skillet is worth a view!
Dream On is to Aerosmith as Stairway to Heaven is to Led Zeppelin. In my mind they are the anthem for each..

I believe you're referring to Young Frankenstein. Marty Feldman as Eye-gor says, "Walk this way."
@@thomaswilliams2273 Good to know, thanks. Couldn't remember which Frankenstein Movie it was!
@@IvIidnight Young Frankenstein was a Mel Brooks movie and a parody of the original Frankenstein movies
@@laurabailey1054 Oh, I've both seen, and love, the movie, I just couldn't remember which one they took a break to watch. 🙂
Steven Tylor wrote this song when he was either 17 or 19 (i don't remember witch ) sitting under his dads piano while his dad was playing it.
Best oldies song from them is SWEET EMOTION!!! Gotta listen to that one from them next!!!
Yeah that’s like a MUST.
Wonderful. Love this song.
Morgan James with post modern jukebox cover of dream on is whole another way to think about this song❤ absolutely stunning😊
This is so very awesome. Love this song, love Aerosmith. Love your reaction!
Back in the saddle! Great song! And sweet emotion!
One of my favorite songs❤
Angel, sweet emotion, don't wanna miss a thing, crazy, cryin, and many more
So glad you are exploring all kinds of music. Especially the classics
It was sampled with the bands permission. Steven Tyler went and sang the chorus at Eminems induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
You have got to go down the 70’s Aerosmith rabbit hole! Some of the best rock of the decade!
I sometimes think that the opening guitar riff, was taken from Jim Croche's "Time in a bottle".
This song is one I've seen on a list stating it's one of the most difficult songs to sing, many times over.
You need to try "uncle salty" and "toys in the attic" by Aerosmith
There's a live version of this song with an orchestra and choir. It's absolute 🔥🔥!
is that the version from Last Action Hero soundtrack? That’s amazing, he hits that scream with so much more power
Sweet Emotion
Hauntingly beautiful
This is such an iconic song!!! I believe if you wanna hear a great homage to Steven Tyler and Aerosmith, you should listen to Morgan James and Postmodern Jukebox paying tribute to this song
Steven Tyler wrote this song when he was just a young teenager and when his band were looking for songs and Steven sat at the piano and played this and they knew that it was going to be huge!!!! AND IT WAS ONE OF THE BIGGEST HITS IN HISTORY !!!!
I was lucky enough to see these guys in concert in 88 at the Fourm in LA they had Skid Row open for them . Both bands were awesome !!!!
He did another video of this song. He was older (a later video) done with a children's choir that was a special. Absolutely beautiful version of this classic song.
Aerosmith also did a lot of really good funk songs in the 70s; that was their best stuff, for sure!
You are right about Eminem. There’s a video out there somewhere of Aerosmith and Eminem doing the song together. SOO GOOD!
No More No More and Mama Kin ❤ two of my favorite Aerosmith songs
Aerosmith Rocks in my absolute favorite 🎶🎶🎶👍❤️❤️😀😁 Rock on man 🤘
Toys in the Attic album, every song is good.
One of my favorite songs of theirs along with sweet emotion, walk this way, Janie's got a gun, living on the edge
Alicia Silverstone was in the video "Crazy" with Liv Tyler (Steven Tyler's daughter)
4.50$ in advance, 5.50$ day of the show! Awesome band at the time. I saw them so many times.
And never once invited me! I'm still mad at you.
;-)
Saw Steven Tyler preform several years ago with an all girl band at Laconia new Hampshire during bike week. Still sounded great and crowd size was maybe 1500 people. Good time
The BEST of Aerosmith is Sweet Emotion! Def worth a reaction...much better than Dream!
Eminem used elements from different Rock songs in his catalog. I've always said Eminem could release a Rap/Rock compilation album.
"Crazy in Love" used the chorus for "Crazy on You" by Heart.
"Thank You" by Dido was used in "Stan"
"Toy Soldiers" by Martika was used in "Like Toy Soldiers"
"The Stroke" by Billy Squier was used in Berserk
"I Love Rock and Roll " by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts was used in "Remind Me"
"Changes" by Black Sabbath (Ozzy Osbourne) was used in "Going Through Changes '
"Time of the Season " by The Zombies was used in "Rhyme or Reason"
"Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel was used in "Darkness "
I know there's more too
6:35 he also used Martika - Toy Soldiers on Encore.
My dad lost his 💩 😂
Love seeing your reactions ♥️🤘🏻Skillet is worth a view!
One of the Top 50 songs of all time.
Steven Tyler performed the 'Sing for the moment' with Eminem for Eminem's induction In the R&R Hall of Fame!
