I'm a rider of 37 yrs and owned a few Harleys over the years and I can tell you I am 230lbs and ride 2 up all the time and I own a 2014 vulcan 900 and I can tell you this bike is well worth every penny, very dependable and not a slouch of a ride at all,,great bike on highway and wherever you want to take it,,you made a good choice regardless of what anyone says,,this bike will never need a thing but routine maintenance,,enjoy! For a fraction of what it would cost for a over priced and over rated Harley you made a good choice.

    Welcome to the Vulcan family!
I’ve had my 2006 Vulcan 900 LT for 10 years and the only thing I’ve done to mine is install a LED headlamp and a Mustang seat! They are enjoyable to ride, they save you on insurance and you get a hell of a lot of bike for the price!

Got one a few weeks ago.
2009 with just 900 miles on it for cheap… $2000 and change from a guy who wanted to get rid of a bike asap.
    My first bike ever.
Today was my second ride EVER.
Let me tell you this. I can’t give less than zero Fks what others think.
    I love it.

Bro, glad you bought the bike for YOURSELF, instead of for others! 1. inexpensive, low maintenance & good resale value--done! BTW, it's good to know your height and weight for others considering the bike.

Dude, my thought process was exactly as you described. Went from a new Harley to a used bike for my first bike, my son talked some sense into me and I’m glad I listened. He sent me several links, the first being a 2002 Vulcan 1500 classic. The next one was a Honda cruiser, then several more, even a couple of Harley’s but that 02 Vulcan, it was flat out gorgeous. I saw 24 different pictures and a quick walk around video. I’m going through MSF now so no license and not exactly skilled or knowledgeable in bikes do I sent my son to see how it looks, runs and rides. I gave him an envelope with the cash and told him go with your gut. Only get it if your sure. It’s been sitting in my driveway for 2 days, it’s so close yet so far. My MSF evaluation is on 10/22. I hope to be on that bike on 10/23. I am THRILLED for you and for me. It’s been a year for you now, I hope all is well.

I bought a new VN900 classic in 2011. I haven’t treated it the best in regards to keeping it out of the weather but it never let me down. Fuel injection, comfort, classic style and the build quality for such a great price. I worried about the high rpm for long trips but these bikes are built for it. I’m at 35k miles. I rebuilt a 2002 HD Electra Glide Ultra Classic. It’s nice but the heat on my leg’s sucks in traffic. I just picked up an 07 VN900 custom for cheap that sat for 12 years in storage. Cleaned the tank and in about an hour it was running great. Great bikes!

I have the same Bike, same color. only thing I did is add a Luggage Rack, and a Windshield Bag. I've had many different Bikes, over the past 40 years, including Two Brand New Harley's, and This 900 Vulcan-LT has been the Best "Around Town" Bike I have Ever Owned. Those Saddle-Bags are Great, You can fit a Gallon of Milk, or Sweet Tea, and 3 bags of Groceries in Them, or an 18 pack of Canned Beverages, "Per Side"! keep Her the way it is, and just Enjoy!

Great bike! I actually have a 97 Vulcan 1500 classic I got the Friend deal on it for 1200 bucks 13k because it sat in the garage for eight years. I rebuilt the carb and it runs like a champ and looks gorgeous. Very low maintenance.

Great bike!!!; I bought the same bike a couple of years ago; yes it's not a harley, but harley isn't everything; you are right you would need to spend about 15-20k for a harley; and this bike is a lot of bang for the buck. Comfortable; and plenty of power; it has everything you need ; floor boards; bags; back rest , and the windshield. Very smooth running machine . Great choice.

I too went with a Vulcan 900 as my first bike. I got a 2009 Vulcan 900 Custom in 2014. I have ridden that Vulcan all over the place including long road trips crossing several states to even doing the Tail of the Dragon on her and loved every second of it. As for issues, let's start with highway speeds. At around 70mph the Vulcan feels like it needs a 6th gear. At 80mph, there is a lot of vibrations in the handlebars which I am glad for Kuryakyn grips and a throttle lock. I believe the battery tender for mine kept destroying my generator and after the second and hopefully last time, in 2018, I stopped using it. I had one spark plug go bad in 2020 and found out that replacing the front one requires lifting the gas tank which is not fun. Also, I have to make sure the b-nuts on the back turn lights are tight before riding as they sometimes don't work if they are not tight; this might be bad wiring on my bike that I haven't found yet. If you plan on doing long rides, I do suggest upgrading the seat to either a Mustang or Saddlemen. I got a Saddlemen and my lower back feels much better after riding for hours on it. I just bought a 2013 HD Heritage Softail Classic a few weeks ago and there is a big difference. The softail is a much smoother ride with a lot more power. My first ride on the softail did piss me off when I gave the throttle a little more twist on a straightaway, the amount of power was way more incredible than what I was used to coming from the Vulcan, but I have no regrets learning on the Vulcan first. Although, I do miss the height of the Vulcan as I scrape the floorboards on the softail making easy turns, but that might be something I have to get used to. I still love the Vulcan and decided to keep it for either my wife when she gets her license or my son when he is old enough to ride, which ever one comes first. Good luck to you and keep the sunny side up and the rubber side down!

You got a great bike, and you will enjoy it! Not every bike needs to be a Harley to give a rider fun or feel adequately measured on two wheels. This Vulcan 900 feels bigger than it really is, it's wide and big, but nimble and maneuverable, while it is not a little machine either. It's a solid mid-size cruiser of good proportions. It is easy to take care of - almost maintenance-free - and much cheaper while more reliable than many Harleys anyway. 130 km/h is absolutely doable on this machine without any problems, while its comfort speed may be between 80- and 120 km/h (road conditions depending). Of course, it can go up to 180 km/h and a bit more if pushed hard. But that's certainly not to be the intention for its type of motorcycle to be raced. And about 45 miles/ga fuel consumption on a highway is not bad either, providing a good cruising range with a tank that allows an intake of 5.3 gallons of fuel. It is built on proven technology one can trust. After long research, I bought and ride one and don't look back! In fact, due to my philosophy of riding, I never feel under motorized.

You will at some point come across someone who will say “ why don’t you buy a real bike?” Referring to the fact you didn’t buy a Harley. Pay them no mind. A “real” bike is what you feel comfortable on and can afford. I would be willing to bet there are a lot of “real” bikers out there sweating right now because of the price they paid for that “real” motorcycle. I’ve been riding Japanese bikes my entire life. And I have yet to meet one person who regrets owning one of them. Awesome bike, ride safe 🤘👍

I have been doing some research on the Vulcan 900 custom and the Yamaha v star 950 & the Honda shadow 1100. Leaning towards the Kawasaki being my 1st choice and the Yamaha being a backup option in case the availability and price isn’t good enough when I am ready to buy my first bike.

Solid first bike. I still have my 09 custom and I'll probably never get rid of it. don't bother with external speakers because you wont hear anything with all the wind noise. get yourself a Cardo system that mounts to the helmet and has jbl speakers you can put inside the helmet. that way you can at least hear your tunes
