One of the things I loved about Gridman/Dynazemon was the naturalistic dialogue.

It’s one of the best naturalistic dialogue I’ve seen on an anime for awhile now, not to mention the dry humor is just chef kiss. Actually wondering what other anime that has this similiar style of naturalistic dialogue, because I'm gonna really miss it after this anime

Usually this style of dialogue often happened in anime movie original . And with unique cinematography of SSSS series and High quality of sound editing (seriously check it how SSSS editing sound, it's very good quality), you can get discount movie anime quality for anime series in SSSS. series.

I really hope Dynazenon gets more attention, it was such a good show and had such a unique feel. Also its soundtrack was a banger, any show that unapologetically uses its OP for hype gets a like in my book.

This show is sooooo under-appreciated (at least in the west). Both gridman and Dynazenon have some of the most superb directing and feels very reminiscent of the greats like hideaki anno. I was honestly more invested in the dialogue and the characters than I was in the action scenes so I’m glad the direction is getting the praise it deserves here.

What I found interesting was that dynazenon was not just a follow up to gridman. Gridman was more a half tokusatsu half yusha series homage while dynazenon went all in on the tokusatsu elements with cgi buildings feeling like miniatures

It's so sad to me how a huge portion of the western fan base aren't even going to give this anime a chance because giant robots and cgi aren't cool anymore. Thankfully the Japanese fanbase are keeping the franchise alive.

    • @FireFury190
      @FireFury190 3 роки тому +13

Yeah. It's also because it's not the type of show western fans expect from Trigger, and they aren't familiar with Gridman the same way Japan is. Yes, we do have Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, the adaptation of Gridman in the west. But a lot of American tokusatsu adaptations that aren't Power Rangers are regularly ignored. And are often unfairly labeled with the same 90s cheese MMPR had. Especially a lot of the other PR seasons.
It makes me very worried that western fans will ignore the Kamen Rider Double anime the same way next summer. Especially since it's a sequel to the original toku show that they likely won't watch because it's live-action, 49 episodes, and not legal to stream yet. Which sucks because Double is a great introduction to Kamen Rider.

Gridman was my AOTY back in 2018, such an unexpected, surprising rollercoaster of emotions. With Dynazenon I already knew what to expect but ofc Trigger always knocks it out of the park.
And, yes, that Kaiser Girdknight gattai scene is one of the most satisfying I've ever seen and will ever see. You know they're all gonna combine, you want them to, and yet again it goes way beyond expectations

Love these shows so much, as someone who very much appreciates toku and just mecha/kaiju in general this series was a Godsend. Also love the almost Hideaki Anno like directing style in some episodes and subliminal messaging/ communication through shot framing. Also helps that the soundtrack is full of absolute bangers (the Battle Go bit of episode 10 of Dynazenon is insanely synced). Very very excited for the crossover season, an absolute shame people in the west are reluctant to try it out given the bad rep tokustatsu has always had and for some reason mecha has been given lately, very grateful the Japanese audience made this series as successful as it is.

I think what awesome with the SSSS series, like videos from Mother Basement, is how this series animation feel like real life tokusatsu. The battle is slow and have weight, the monster design feel like you can created it as real life suit, most of the action you can do it wirework with some action is over the top anime action. You can feel how much the team behind the series love and respect tokusatsu

What i like about both SSSS Gridman and Dynazenon is that it seemingly did the impossible. Hyper Agent Gridman at this point was widely considered forgotten by the majority of the Tokusatsu community apart from those who watch this and its English adaptation Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad back in the 90s.
In my watch of Dynazenon, I feel that it was a sorta mirror image of Gridman. Like where Gridman had alright to meh lead characters but amazing villains, Dynazenon is reverse where the villains just kinda sucked but the main characters were the highlights of my viewing. Where I came back to see Akane and her development this time I revisted for Yomogi and Minami develop from totally strangers to boyfriend and girlfriend while also investigating Minami's sister's death. Having Anti return as a supporting role was the second highlight of the series. We've watched him grow from an intelligent kaiju to Gridknight and now end up as sorta a mentor figure along with Second, who serves as his main confidant like Yomogi is to Minami. I said years ago that I hope we see Gridknight again in the next series, here i got my wish although he's not the main lead i still loved see him.
The fights were just as good as last series. In fact I noted that there weren't that much story in Dynazenon, with the villains only slightly more a threat at the end and more focus on the characters. In spot each episode felt like a classic Tokusatsu episode. The plot of a standard Tokusatsu is pretty simple to follow even an idiot can understand: starts with characters going about their day with some minor problem or dilemma, meanwhile villains are conversing in their base and decide on a plan to destroy their enemies before making a monster or kaiju, kaiju is unleashed and the heroes get in their mecha and stops evil plan, then resolution on dilemma. Done! While Gridman had more emphasis on the story with Akane, Dynazenon was more low-key with its story and focuses more on the main leads while there isn't that much at stake.
But here's the thing. SSSS Dynazenon proved that SSSS Gridman was not a one hit wonder, that it can work a second time and succeed just as it did when it first premiered. With Gridman X Dynazenon slated for next year, I'm more than positive that it will succeed again. Baby dan dan forever!!!!

Key information about the show from the latest and final Dynazenon Radio Show.
    - Confirms that Akira Amemiya’s the one who came up with the name ‘YomoYume Imperfect’ for the radio show
    - Also confirms that he’s the one who came up with Yomogi cosplaying as Gauma / the mummy (and very likely Yume as the princess / yuurei) for the finale
    - Suggests that Yomogi and Yume went together to buy their matching umbrellas after Yume lost her umbrella in the first episode, Yomogi’s VA gets jealously annoyed over this
    - Kaneishi's crush being verbalized was purposely left out and Amemiya wanted it to be told that way silently in the background and if you didn't catch it well it doesn't affect anything but if you did great.
    - They talked about the VA of Yomo's dad, and it's a secret. But Yomo's VA says when you hear it you should be able to guess who it is.
    - Shizumu never got tired because he was always connected to a Kaiju. Which was a detail, Wakyama and Enoki didn't notice.
    - Both Amemiya and the voice actors of Yomo and Yume said it the last voice drama will be something sweet.
    - Amemiya said in the last program of the radio "YomoYume Imperfect". When asked if Dynazenon was the real world he replied with "For Yomogi and Yume, this is reality".
    - Yomogi’s VA brought up that YomoYume has matching umbrellas and he would be a bit pissed if he saw a couple doing that irl, once Amemiya suggests YomoYume bought them together he goes ‘goddamnit’ twice at the young lovebirds and Yume’s VA points out his resentment is leaking out.

I loved both SSSS Gridmon and SSSS Dynazenon.
I love Gridman even more now since I last year watched Hyper Agent Gridman and it was a lot of fun to watch.
Both Gridman and Dynazenon remind me of Power Rangers when I would get up early in the morning just so i could see the next episode of the show.
When the dvd's become avilable I'm buying them so i have the series forever in my collection

for me this balance of naturalistic gray life
with Tokusatsu guts, bravery, love, friendship and save the world!
    worked for this series.
In a way, characters fight with kaiju is a bit like our escapism into anime and absorbing heroic values from them. Thats how in SSSSDynazeon main characters, inspired by Tokusatsu values eventually find purpose in life and move forward.

I can't express just how much I love both Gridman and Dynazenon. Gridman is one of the few anime I consider my favourite. I didn't yet rate Dynazenon because I don't want recency bias to show, but I can't imagine I will rank it anywhere else than up there with Gridman.

  • @torgan
    @torgan 3 роки тому +39

What made Gridman cool for me was how it paid homage to tokusatsu through aspects like the suit-like kaiju designs and the logic behind the computer world.
Dynazenon felt more like a TRIGGER show which definitely came from the lack of restrictions that comes with an adaption. Gauma looks straight out of Gurren Lagann. Hell, the fight with the penultimate kaiju is literally the 11th hour of Gurren Lagann. It loses what made Gridman unique but the improvements to the previous show more than justified it.

Yeah i felt that. Gridman felt more like a straight up Saturday morning cartoon while dynazenon is just its own thing. That being said overall dynazenon is a step ahead in improvement from gridman imo so that more than to justify the loss of the unique feel gridman had

Excellent video as always. I definitely enjoyed Dynazenon more than Gridman because of the better executed character writing, dialogue, drama and sense of quiet introspection. Most of the characters in Gridman felt kinda flat to me aside from the villain girl and Knight. Amemiya and his crew did a great job. While they might be empty words on their part, I really do hope work conditions and pay improve at TRIGGER and the industry itself.

The thing that I found with Dynazenon is that it feels very much like a mirrored version of Gridman. Where Gridman had alright to bland and at worst a terrible (specifically Utsumi and his dickishness) main cast of heroes while the villains particular Akane and Anti had amazing character arcs where you want to see what they'll do next, Dynazenon is the exact reverse with bland villains and a cast of colorful characters where you genuinely want to follow. With Yogomi and Minami i absolutely loved seeing them together and watching them grow into a couple while also investigating Kano's death like Sherlock and Watson. There were no bad moments between the main characters, Chise was seen a little as a third wheel but she was pretty cool with creating Goldburn. With Anti, returning as a main character and the most experienced Kaiju fight was a brilliant move on the director's part. It feels like he's matured in the intervening time between the two shows, kinda becoming an Obi-Wan like figure. All I can say for him was its great to have him back even if he didn't go through the same development as the others his arc was in Gridman where he stopped being a Kaiju and joined forces with the very thing he was made to destroy.
What did drag this show down was the Kaiju Eugenicists. If you like these guys, totally cool I can see why, however they weren't interesting to watch and ultimately they were boring. Like Akane before them they had failed in every major conflict with Dynazenon and Gridknight, but unlike Akane they had scored no major victories against the team and really they just sucked at their job. Mind you they didn't have the resources and creativity that Akane and Alexis Kerib had, but at times whenever they started spouting about how they'll destroy the world I just looked at them as hypocrites. They seem perfectly contempt without destroying the world, spending most of their time having fun and going to movies. Really why do they even want to destroy Akane's world? Having laid back villains is ok sometimes but when your heroes are supposed to be afraid of them it just creates a weird paradox that make them look incompetent.
But what I'm trying to get at is that Dynazenon proved that SSSS Gridman wasn't a fluke. That its major success over the Godzilla Anime Trilogy wasn't some weird coincidence, lightning in a bottle if you will a one shot only. However this show proves that kaiju anime can work, sure there have been other shows in the past but I'm talking about the new age. I love Gridman, its a beautifully underrated anime that seemingly did the impossible and expanded on it. And it ain't done yet. At the ending of Dynazenon, trigger revealed the next installment of the Gridman Universe. I'm looking forward to Gridman X Dynazenon.
    Baby dan dan forever!
