"I went travelling like everybody does" this phrase is a super interesting tho, it amazes me that's default in some circles.
Not everybody does, vast majority of people can't do that. We should be grateful if we are able to do stuff like suddenly drop our careers (based on grossly expensive education) and leave, 180 change our lives, and go off to south east asia to experience nature for a while. That's INSANE from the perspective of the vast majority of people in this world.
I saved my own money for months working 2 jobs to do that. Like I said, I do not come from a remotely well off family. I worked my ass off cause that was something I always dreamed of doing. It was one month when I was 19yo. I Didn't have a full on career yet. I made and created my own business and I was my own boss, so I saved up lots and allowed myself that time for my mental health. And my education (which I paid for) was extremely cheap, because I'm Canadian and I earned a soccer scholarship that I also worked my ass of for. I am very grateful I was raised by parents that made me work for what I wanted, and never gave me a cent to help. Made me the hard working, independent woman I am today.

That's all really admirable, I got a scholarship to study in Japan even tho I come from a "shithole" country, which lead me to eventually move to Canada and enjoy all your maple wonders (Thank you all so much). My point still stands, I was lucky enough to have growing up the privileges of a good (enough) education and systems that allowed me to go off to Asia to find myself. My effort also was necessary to get me this far. Most people in the world don't have that, regardless of how much "get shit done" attitude they have, or how much effort they are willing to put into it. Luck also is massive there for my case.
As a Canadian you had a lot of jumping boards to go up to that point, and took that advantage when a lot of people don't; which is awesome you did. I wouldn't feel bad at all for doing what you do, I'd definitely be proud, I'm just making a point not everyone get's the stars aligned as we do to be able to make that call and take that chance.
Travel is very expensive! I worked summers since 14 and saved money like crazy to do missionaries in south america and when this pandemic ends i want to save up for another missionary building trip. If its something you can do, it provides a lot of humble and inspiration

It's also about perspective though, she wasn't saying that in the sense of "oh EVERYONE in the world does it", it's more specific to Canada. Because over here that is kind of "standard" and A LOT of students end up doing this so it was more just moderate self deprecation and a play on calling herself "basic" lol. It was a cultural joke more than anything

@@steelfallageek Right?! I think I hopped in when she was approaching 1 mil, maybe 500-700k? I only remember because somebody was better her she’d do it by the end of the month and then it happened the end of the week lmao.
My kid introduced me in early April of last year. I actually downloaded the app just to follow her. I'm not really sure how many followers she had at that point but I'm fairly certain she only had like 4 or 5 videos up. Watching her grow on the platform has been so amazing. She is awe inspiring and well deserving of all the awesome that comes her way. She's one of, if not, THE hardest working tiktok'r on the platform. The girl is driven and super ambitious. She's a comedic beast in the best ways possible. Anytime that I'm in any number or combination of sour/foul/salty/sappy/panicky/broken moods and need to become a functioning non-murderous member of society in a short amount of time, I know I can count on her content to make me giggle and bring my attitude to a much healthier level.
I never look at how many followers someone has when when they show up in my fyp. I only know that I've been following her for quite some time. She is amazing!!!! There were a couple last week that I watched over and over because I was laughing so hard.
Kris would do great on TV. I don't understand why TikTok doesn't pay in Canada. Some things here are great, some things make no sense.

I stumbled upon KallmeKris on Tiktok awhile back. Then devoured ALL her content. She is my favorite on that platform! Her hard work and dedication show. I can't wait to see what she does in the future. Thank you Kris for all the entertaining content you have provided. I for one have immensely enjoyed it!
I have been following Kris for about a year and did not realize we had so much in common. My parents also split when I was 6 months old. I have one older brother and my dad re-married and three more daughters and my mom re-married and had two boys and two girls. So I'm the oldest of 9 kids

I went to Victoria, Canada (from SoCal) on my own a few years ago and it was so amazing! It was a great growing experience. Also, it was so safe. It was a great first trip to do on your own.
Kris your story resonates with me so much! I too went to school, following my parents wishes. To become a teacher too! I'm also in the lower mainland BC! That being said; I've made my own small business and support myself. I appreciate you talking about it. It helps me (and many others) not feel alone in that struggle.
