Immediately clicked on it, Matt gave a banging interview a few weeks ago, i knew Marisha will do amazing too. Coming from someone who haven't watched a single critical role episode
I am so glad she wouldn't allow Critical Role go to Zoom. Making the fans wait until they could set up the studio was honestly the best decision. Having them all in the same room feeding off each other is part of the magic the show brings.
I wonder if she considered doing one or two one-shots to scratch the itch for fans, but not being part of the main C2 for fans to suffer through on rewatch years later. One reason not to is that some fans would say it was good enough for them to do C2 episodes that way and be more disappointed that they weren't doing that.
Me reading this comment at the beginning and not knowing the context: "yeah, who IS that josh guy anyway??" Me before editing after watching the whole thing: "who is josh? there are a lot of people named josh" Me now 3 minutes in: "Yeah Josh, lets Chill out dude!"
hey phil i think i found the video you and marisha did before. i was the video where you teach how to play ninja. the quality is bad though. ua-cam.com/video/iOHJ3p4xTbI/v-deo.html
Marisha radiates pure wholesome “Badass big sister” vibes. I wish I had the words to adequately express just how much I appreciate her and the Critical Role crew, they have been such a bright light for so many people.
For me, she radiated narcisstic vibes in this interview more than anything else. Her rant on "harrasment" has been the most unlikable thing I watched on YT in a while - playing the victim card, pretending that Keyleth wasnt literally her at the time and to an extent now, blaming everybody but herself for every piece of criticism she ever got. Really sad to see her create this wanabe power girl facade in face of insecurities she couldnt contain. That is not the character arc I wanted to see Marisha embrace.
@@Jay-bz5qk Might want to watch that part again, but I know you won't because your mind is already made up. She does take ownership of her and her character. She's also being interviewed so calling her narcissistic is hilarious. Cyber bullying in particularly goes too far incredibly fast and what happened with Marisha went from critique to outright hate super fast.
Marisha Ray has to be one of my true inspirations in life. Not only is she extremely creative funny smart and all around amazing. She's also withstood a bunch of negativity and harassment for awhile and her fortitude and perseverance is truly awe inspiring!! God i truly love her.
Yeah I can understand people who view episodes of critical role like a football game, cheering and booing their players I can't empathise with people hating someone on that level
I have to admit - there were aspects of Kiki that I found annoying. But I enjoyed Marisha playing it. Her fortitude of personal character just adds to that appreciation for what she does.
Bro. To all the deepcut CR fans... Not ONLY did Marisha KEEP the 1000 Paper Dragons from critmas. But she MADE THEM INTO A LAMP! It kinda warms my hear that she didn't just throw them away.
I'm working my way through C1 and just watched that Critmas episode earlier today. I came back here to rewatch this looking for a specific clip and noticed that and freaked out.
Large channels of anything sadly attract toxicity, luckily its rarely an actual majority. Not to say CR doesnt have some toxic fans, or issues, but yeah by in large for its sheer size its getting better and better at self moderating,
@@johnjaeger3746 yes, I am aware. They have a baby boy called Ronan and worked together on Full Metal Achemist Brotherhood as Mustang and Lust in one of the most epic scenes in voice acting :)
Marisha is a BEAST of a person and you can't convince me otherwise. What she has accomplished, what she has faced. The strength she has, it's just amazing.
@@cosmicwolf7101 She is a sexual assault survivor. She’s a woman on the internet and in the entertainment industry which comes with its own challenges with extra criticism and doubt from behind the scene and in the comments. Marisha receives a lot of hate throughout the live broadcasts and social media. Also the entertainment industry is just hard for everyone in it and if you are pushing through it, that’s a feat in itself. There’s a lot of competition and shit you have to deal with. Being able to be successful in it is pretty admirable. She works hard with the many projects she takes on.
@Craig Bphone you really came back here two days after posting that first comment because they didnt even care to respond to you ? That is honestly extra petty and I think you should really ask yourself inwards why Marisha seems to tick you off that badly.
You should have Laura Bailey on next. Being a working parent with your spouse, being a voice actor and all the hate she received for her roles would be a great talking point.
Marisha the badass! I'm glad she isn't allowing the asshats of the internet keep her down. I haven't always agreed with the actions of her characters but I have always found the vast majority of them hilarious and awesome. "We are practically gods!" is still one of my favourites :D.
I find two different types. There's the ones that didn't like Keyleth (or the way she played Keyleth). Then there's the ones that don't like her outspoken feminism. Sadly, she got (and still gets) so much toxicity.
@@coledibiase1777 may I ask what problem you see with feminism? I am a feminist, and personally, I think everyone should be. I see it as you’re either a sexist or a feminist, women should be seen as equal. That’s all women everywhere want. That’s what feminism is.
I remember performing on the blvd. with Marisha. She would usually dress up as tinkerbell. Marisha is one of the coolest people i ever met while living in LA. Glad to see you're doing really well Risha. Proud of you.

Remember when half the fandom thought that hating Marisha was a personality for the entire first campaign and are all over her now all of a sudden? Because I will never forget. I'm watching you.
Got into critical role during the end of campaign one did not understand all the damn hate comments. Pissed me off going through them just to find the time stamps since flando wasn't there.
@@Kris-wo4pj Yeah, and that annoyingly continued for the first quarter of campaign two before it slowly got better. Some people really need to separate characters and their actions from the actual person :/
@@low-key5512 yeah i can finally look thru the comments again. Tho i will admit getting into a fight with some people cuz of the yasha hate when ashley was finishing up Blindspot.
@@Kris-wo4pj nearly exactly my experience. I will admit that Keyleth wasn't my favourite character but the hate she got... first thing I did with each episode was scroll through the comments and dislike /report the marisha hate
@@wingedyera i didnt like her either but then i realized it was cuz alot of her traits are traits i hate about myself. That made me realize alot of the haters probably have the same issues so i learned to root and appericate her coming into her own. Hell marisha even admitted to disliking keyleth at first for the same issues in between the sheets but she made it work and keyleth got the best character arc next to percy. Also they were bitching about marisha fucking up on spells. Druids are the hardest class to play based on spells considering how many they get. Add the live show, improve and then the fact they all use to get hammered in the beginning and of course she was going to fuck up. Vax was annoying as well (way too self righteous for a thief and he didnt have good enough charisma stat wise to be the face of the group) but he had his funny moment. So i guess it was okay since he's vax. Tho people do get on laim for always playing sad edgy characters. He does it so well i say just enjoy it.
Yes yes yes! I had a sneaking suspicion Marisha would be on after Matt was on the pod!! I knew she and matt were fans of Phil when Marisha was repping the Shop Defranco Emotionally Exhausted sweatshirt on Crit Role
Honestly, I loved Keyleth. I think I love her more now that Marisha has played Beau because they're so different and Marisha totally played the character of Keyleth consistently. She was annoying at times but she was consistently a beautiful mess. Marisha's awesome. Thanks for doing this interview! Here's to more CR interviews.
Going off of her talk about people using Keyleth for self reflection, I loved Keyleth. I didn't think she deserved any of the hate she got, but one thing I couldn't wrap my head around was why she didn't seem to LEARN anything. Her growth seemed so inconsistent to me and it really bothered me. But I finally realized that NO ONE has consistent growth where they experience something and then never fuck up that same way again. I was being so hard on myself at the time about my own self growth and it hurt to recognize that I was pushing that toxic mindset onto Keyleth as well.
She is willing and capable to fight tooth and nail (literally and metaphorically) to achieve her dreams and to give herself and her loved ones the lives they deserve.
@Richterman1 yeah if they were impressed by this hardship they should watch the In Between the Sheets interview. She touched upon a lot of good points.
her episode of between the sheets is both heartbreaking and so inspirational. she’s been through a lot and she’s somehow made it out strong and happy. although trigger warning the episode spends a bit of time talking about Marisha’s experience with sexual assault and harassment. there’s a warning in the episode but still
It makes me sad that even to this day, that every comment breathing a word of positivity towards, Marisha, still ALWAYS has to have someone that follows a comment of valid small criticisms, with one taking it to far. Devolving the whole chain of positivity into the old circle, like we haven't heard every one of your arguments all ready and answered them in EVERY comment section where a compliment to her, has been made. And to those who ignore the whole "the women of the show get more shit", or believe that's not the case; go watch the comments under Phil's interview with Matt. Go see how even it is. I was so bloody excited when i saw so many compliments to her here and every time i clicked on the comments to see what other good things people had to say about her, but every single one with replies.. it never gets to more then like 4 or 5 comments before it devolves. Someone has a slightly regretful "she was not my favourite, but i never understood the level of hate" , then it goes straight into "I can't rest until you don't like Marisha," " you would never like her if you saw this," "I don't get why people say she gets it worse then the boys". Even though every cast and crew member confirms it over and over again. Sorry for the rant, I just didn't think a solo interview would draw that crowd, but i guess it's a "free shot, when she's not surrounded by her friends to protect (her) and distract you, from going after her" . It's not even them saying it, it's just said all ready, every two or three scenarios every fucking compliment. Everyone has seen your point by now, give it a rest, the whole cast (of the characters and people that you like) has memed you for it, they don't think it's cool that you're going after their friends/husbands/wives. So it's not like they feel you do it for their "defence/sake" . Yeah, fuck it! Marisha is great and a fucking fighter, we don't see the half of it cause people bombard her dm's as well (that she actually prefers, to not scare new people away from Dnd) ,she definitely won't crumble under it and it's just tiresome.. the words have been repeated so many times it is just gibberish word mush. You can tell from how many people like the compliments, but don't comment, cause they know what they'll find and don't want to do the whole song and dance again.
And then Beau is just like: "I can't beat the shit out of you without getting closer." Because honestly the first quote captures marisha so well, and the response is literally Beau in a nutshell
I just finished campaign 1 and Keyleth was my favorite character because she had reminded me of my wife and in the realization of that help me in improving my relationship with my wife.
The moment she was talking about owning what you love hit hard. "I love this, I'm good at it, I don't have to justify it to you. Fuck you" I loved hearing that
@@nbv6975 Of course Taliesin is interesting. He has been alive for a couple thousand years. Lots of interesting stories he can tell. I'm like 99% sure he has Cthulu on speed dial.
If people haven't watched her interview on the Between the Sheets series they did on the Critical Role channel, I highly, highly recommend it. This woman is genuinely one of the most incredible people to listen to. Her stories and experiences and resilience are awe-inspiring.
Thank Gods for Marisha answering why they didn't start the show earlier over zoom. Edit: After some sleep I'm now seeing how this can be misunderstood. What I was hoping to say was: After and during hiatus it was frustrating seeing people not understand why they didnt just play in Zoom. Thank you Marisha for clearing it up in a more straightforward way.
Yeah, those were rough months, but I get it. I go back and watch the early episodes of C1, and they're tough. I enjoy them but she's right, those would be the "if you're trying to catch up, you can skip those" episodes. But the stuff that's come out since the pandemic has been some of their best work, so I'm glad she stuck to her guns. That Vilya reveal wouldn't have been half as entertaining if they hadn't been in the same room.

I will say that I didn't like Keyleth at first, but ended up understanding why she seemed to annoy me. I kept seeing myself in her and how I mess up almost everything I tried to do. It made me come to terms with how I felt about myself. I love Keyleth. #ThankYouKeyleth
While I never straight-up disliked her, I do see a lot of myself in her, as well. Which was a bit hard to come to terms with at first. I've come to love her, as well. 😊
"I hate this for reasons I don't fully understand, so I'm gonna yell at you about it" is a perfect encapsulation of SO MANY THINGS. That is incredibly insightful! #thankskeyleth
I refreshed my youtube page, saw this video, and clicked like before it even started. Marisha is my favorite member of CR, and I hope more cast members come on.
They were incorrect, but I feel some percentage of people didn't realize how much acting you were putting into Keyleth, and then seeing the contrast with Beau people had an "Ohhh" moment with campaign 2. And some people were just jerks.
Very true. Although Marisha also had some infuriately tendencies to not understand her (albeit extremely overwhelming) spells, using them wrong, and then arguing and getting mad at everyone when they wouldn't work. She's addressed this terrifically in C2.
Narrative Telephone is one of the best things that CR has done aside from the main show. The fact that they can put personal pride aside and do that on a regular basis is amazing.
The blatant sexism that is at play when it comes to the Marisha hate is so stale and tired; it's sad that people have no shame in displaying that kind of bigotry.
@Jelboo "The blatant sexism"? If that was the reason for the hate, then Laura and Ashley would get just as much of it. Out of the people who hate her, the majority of them hate her because they needed a new target after Orion left and unfortunately for her, she was the easy choice because of the way she played her character. I'm not condoning the hate nor am I saying sexism doesn't exist- but when you try to shoehorn it in as the reason when it definitely isn't, all you're doing is hindering the fight against sexism and alienating people who don't believe sexism exists. Please stop.
@@ironrose6 but all the cast has said the girls get it much worse then them. Just in this commment section i've both seen "have Laura on, so she can talk about being a working mom and woman on the internet with the disproportionate hate" and "Yeah, i know. I hate how they went after yasha and Ashley in the time she was finishing off blindspot". I personally haven't gotten to the last part yet, but there are examples to the contrary just in this comment section alone about how all the women got it worse, with Marisha at the spear point. The difference between orion and Mariaha is that that bastard hurt people in real life; his real life friends, so bad that his friends had to publicly cut him off at a time that he was struggling. Do you get how bad it had to be for Matt- the people pleaser, will talk it out and find a solution even if your abusive and using me, Matt- to cut him off (for the whole world to see, public ) , at a time when he was struggling? That's a big fucking difference between that and being annoyed over rules being blundered with, or not liking a character.
@@sjokkoladehjerte None of that addresses what I said. The original comment says sexism is the reason for the Marisha-hate (Marisha is the most-hated person on the team- if we can't agree on that, we're not sharing the same reality and can't have a discussion). I refuted that, saying that if sexism was the only reason, Laura and Ashley would be just as hated as Marisha. They aren't. This is unequivocally true. Crying and whining and saying "herrrrrp sexism derrrrrp" anytime someone with a vagina gets hated on _and there's definitely more at play_ actively hurts the feminism movement. Saying Marisha is only hated on because she's female is stupid; there are plenty of other reasons she's the most-hated person on CR, none of which have to do with her reproductive organs being on the inside. To use your parlance: "That's a big fucking difference."
@@ironrose6 well, i never claimed it was "only due to sexism" i only meant that if we look at all the girls Vs. boys on the show; the girls still get more hate. Plus the whole cast has confirmed that most of the shit that they got, was way past constructive criticism; thats all I'm saying. I just pointed out that to say none of it is because they are women, undermine all that the cast has said about the type of messages the girls get. But yeah, I'm far from saying "anyone that criticise a person with a vagina, is sexist" that's so far off from what i was trying to get across. Im referencing dm's with death threats for character choices, for Marisha, while Orion still had support in comments "because he was having a bad time" and he hurt real people in real life. So I'm just saying some of it is clearly so disproportionate, cause I don't think being annoying deserves worse "social punishment" then hurting real people does.
I am REALLLLLLLY hoping that this means you will be sitting down with each one of them. I think you'd have a fun time talking with them all, but deff Sam XD
Listening to her talk about having to defend who she was her whole life? Fuck Marisha, Me too. Thank you for opening that up. I've love you and all of CR for years but...fuck. I've never realized that is something I actively do. And have done my whole life. No wonder I have tons of defensive armor....fuck.
I remember the heat she caught during campaign 1. I’ll admit I was annoyed by Keyleth at first. It took me a while to figure out how good an actress Marisha is. She really committed to the character even when things got rough. Total respect.
PSA: If you liked this and want to know more about her watch Between the Sheets. Also! Most of the cast were in TLOU in some form directing or voice acting.
Phil, I want you to know I have watched every commercial for the whole thing because of Marisha. If you put the rest of the cast of CR and Brian, I gurantee you I'll do the same
I imagine the CR cast and crew have the same attitude towards being told "no" by Marisha to an idea, as they have towards Matt ruling against players in-game. They have practice deferring to the one person they trust to run this aspect, and just move on to their next idea. It's good practice. Even if it's crew who isn't cast, the D&D campaign is the backbone of their brand, and therefore that in-game etiquette shapes their corporate culture. I've noticed that (not just here but across a lot of media) toxic misogynists tend to pick one woman who doesn't fit the mold of 1) badass who can and will kick your ass, or 2) supportive female who helps the others in some way. Any woman who doesn't fit one of those two archetypes becomes the target that they all hone in on. I'm reminded of all the Skyler hate in "Breaking Bad." She wasn't supportive of her 20+ year suburban husband suddenly deciding to become a major criminal, and she wasn't particularly "badass," so they attacked her as being horrible (and still do in some reaction channel comments). Never mind that Marie Schrader was straight-up written to be annoying AF, but at least she supported her husband, so they all trained their hatred on Skyler. In campaign one, those "acceptable woman" roles were Vex (badass) and Pike (supportive), leading all the toxic misogynists to pile on Keyleth. In campaign two, Marisha's "Beau" is the badass, Ashley's "Yasha" is equal parts badass and supportive, and somehow Laura made "Jester" so universally loveable that she's bulletproof to haters. So what are they going to do, go after Sam, who played the self-hating female "Nott/Veth" who regularly makes poor choices? Yeah, didn't think so. But Marisha's point about the CR fan community having worked hard to weed those people out (or at least shame them into silence) by now out is an apt one. See something, say something. Talk shit, get hit. That's the rule now, and y'all should think about what the response will be if you try to start some more misogynist bullshit in either chat or comments. We're watching... Waiting... Also, so many KeyHaters were like "Marisha makes the show nearly unwatchable, Keyleth did X, Y and Z!" When later, it turns out that X, Y and Z were specific roleplay choices she made for a reason. Maybe not the optimal choice in the moment, but there were good reasons for them. The toxic people didn't realize that she was making character choices, not player choices. Which speaks to her really inhabiting the character if they can't tell the difference. As for those who were saying "she only got away with X, Y and Z because she was the DM's girlfriend," I have only three words: cliff diving goldfish. Matt pulls zero punches, period. It's also worth noting that if you watch campaign one from when it started streaming, Marisha was the very first player to actually start to fully roleplay, to reveal vulnerable depths to her character and really put herself out there, drama-wise. Up until then, the other players (while awesome) were mainly leaning into their archetypes and having fun with that, without actually getting very deep or dramatic. Even Liam's "Vax" was just a fun-loving wacky risk-taker back then (seriously, watch the early episodes). Marisha's portrayal of Keyleth led the way to the rest of them actually going deeper with their characters, which is now one of the main draws of the show.
That understanding of people who are just on hard times... Hit hard. I'm on that rough times bit myself and... Yeah... 80% of the time I feel subhuman.
I hope you know you're a full, worthy human with dignity. It isn't just luck or hard times. We have systemic issues in North America and western Europe that is based on illusory meritocracy (work hard and pull yourself up by your bootstraps) with zero security or a living wage anymore. Our society blames people for not making it when really, society failed its members
Hey man(or girl), if you want like, a daily dose of moral support, Tectone on twitch is a cool guy whose been there, and does real talk with his chat like almost every stream.
Especially as she played Keyleth so well to the point where people didn't know the difference between Keyleth and Marisha. I remember early Campaign 2 people in chat questioning Beau A LOT because she's so different than Keyleth, and it was almost like watching the realization that Keyleth isn't Marisha in real-time. Keyleth put her foot down, especially at the start of the Briarwood arc where Tiberius kills the old lady, and Marisha has said many times that the grey morality of VM led to many moments where she talked to Matt about the possibility of Keyleth leaving the group. Her dedication to Keyleth's character is admirable and it's also okay to just NOT like Keyleth; every character doesn't have to be your favorite. The fanbase has grown A LOT since then, both in size and in maturity, and I'm much happier for it, I can only imagine the cast being so as well. I fucking love Marisha, I worked at GameStop for years as an assistant manager, and when she popped up on that GameStop TV my worlds collided, only to see on that Thursday Marisha address it in the announcements! She's a goddamned badass and an inspiration. Any Marisha content is good Marisha content, thanks Phil
Of all the amazing characters in campaign 1 Keyleth was for sure the one who made me ask the most questions to myself about what kind of person I want to be. She enabled so much growth in myself with her way of handling things. Keyleth is amazing and Marisha played her so well with all her strengths and weaknesses, that she got so much hate for this kind of talented performance just baffles me.
To answer why keyleth got hate (not marisha) you got a lot of cringe humor and cringe from her speeches. Keyleth had her moments but you get out of a vax dont you fear death monologue right into keyleth cringe humour or speech its a bit much to swallow. I ended up enjoying keyleth a lot more when they were on the last bit of her quest. That said it was 87 episodes in 348 hours in approximately. My friend liked cringe humour and loves keyleth but keyleth always felt forced which is her story. She is forced or at least feels pressured to become the voice of the temptest. So she did do a good job but it feels like a 12 year old me trying to become popular it just hurts to watch.
"Keyleth would f*ck things up"... flashback to goldfish xD love to all the female cast for the unnecessary hate they not only put up with but have been total bad ass bosses about
Interesting that you don't understand this. I think Marisha is a bit off when attributing it at least partially to the fact that she is a woman (but for sure that influences they way people express their feelings and sadly not in a positive way). I only watch Campaign 2 (and I love it overall), yet the description Marisha gave for Keyleth is in many ways so true for Beau too (in particular the very obvious insecurities), and that makes it sometimes really hard to watch, because it leads to projection, mistrust and a lot of unnecessary conflict in character. Is it fun to watch unnecessary conflict and mistrust? For me not to this extent, due to the format it is not used by a writer to progress story in a fully planned and structured way (the format is fine, no critique here). She simply plays a character that is very hard to like for me, however it got a little bit better during campaign 2. But I can of course differentiate between the character she plays and herself. While I think she shares a lot with her characters I like her much more than I like Beau. Also Marisha sharing her experience publically (which is brave) explains a lot about how she became what she is, which makes it easier to accept all the things I struggle a bit with. And don't get me wrong, big respect to her for all she has done for Critical Role. Also English is not my native language, so take it with a grain of salt when I write, I'm Zemnian.
Knowing Marisha (from how she presents herself in front of the camera), I don't think she was heavily projecting onto Keyleth, maybe a tad, but not a whole lot. There were moments that were difficult to watch for me, I have a terrible case of second-hand embarrassment, but I understand how it contributes to the story. In my opinion, all those "unnecessary conflicts" and embarrassing moments are what humanize Keyleth, they really manifest her fully, making her more than a character. It's also these moments that make the ending of her arc as a confident leader all the more satisfying to me, to see and understand how she's grown, both in practical and spiritual maturity. Besides, I finally get to see a female character who isn't right all the time, who doesn't have all the answers, and who, in desperately trying to prove herself, learns she doesn't have to. People disliking her for all those qualities that make her human is what I conceptually understand, but personally don't agree with. But frankly, your opinion is yours, you see the world through a very different lense than I do, and your tastes belong to you. Have a good day, my fellow Critter
@@dirkboch128 She's not off, believe me. I've watched Campaign 1 and perhaps you don't attribute it the same way she does because you haven't seen it the whole way. While there are people like you who can make the difference between character and actress or understand why they hate a character, you're not in the majority of "people who dislike Keyleth". She put the dot on the "i" when she attributes it partially to being a woman. It's more than partially. If you watched the campaign and read the comments, all the women in the cast, with Marisha at the forefront were getting absolutely blasted online for every single thing, while the men got away with it. I remember full-on moments when Liam's character Vax basically screamed and admonished another character while Keyleth was just sitting there being sad and being apologetic toward that same person in that same scene (I'm being vague for the sake of spoilers). The internet jumped on Keyleth like "I can't believe she would do this!" "I thought she was supposed to be understanding!" "Why is she yelling?!" when she was doing none of it. Vax was. Marisha and Laura getting dunked on for missing rules while Liam didn't understand how sneak attack worked for 100 episodes straight and Taliesin always having to ask how to attack with a sword. Both Sam and Liam got away with so many things that were against the rules and no one batted an eye. But when Matt missed a ruling for Marisha, it was still Marisha who was getting shit. Believe me, as someone who was foolish enough to look through the comments section of campaign 1, it's more than partially because she's a woman. And, let's face it, an attractive woman in a "predominantly male nerd space" (D&D) who is also the DM's wife.
@@d.riddle2965 My feelings towards her/her characters are a collection of things, and nothing to do with her being a woman or not, but any time I brought up any criticism of her character's actions or her playstyle, all I got was "nah, you dislike what she did because she's a she"...had a full on conversation with a few that kept reminding me I must have hidden hate towards her, while I said if a mate did the same thing my reaction would be the exact same...that's one of the reasons I personally stay away from the comment section of CR videos. Yeah, sure, I may not be "in the majority of people who dislike Keyleth", but that matters little when no matter what you say, people jump to her defense while berating anything you possibly say. I don't hate her, just as I don't hate the people I play with that do stupid things at times that don't fit their character. It's just annoying (and don't put too much emphasis on it) when something is done that is completely out of character and comes out of nowhere, do things that don't make sense especially in the moment, act as if the worst is going to happen (and not letting it go) while none in the party would let that happen in a million years, countering what someone else is doing which in turn could potentially hurt everyone in the party while almost seeing the disbelief in the other person's eyes, or keep pushing the GM to try and get a benefit where there normally shouldn't be one (Liam is a good example of this too especially season 1). Certain things are easier to accept when it's for example Grog doing them, if he does something stupid or silly, "well, it's Grog". Same with Sam, he plays playful characters, be it sarcasm galore or just silliness. But that gets harder when it's a character that is pushing themselves towards a leading position, is really well educated etc. While it's nice when you try and incorporate as many characteristics as possible into one character, to make said character more enjoyable or intriguing, and actually make it work, but when it doesn't and it just conflicts with itself, then it's just "please don't".
I love watching interviews with Marisha because her characters have always been my favorites. To me, Keyleth and Beau feel like the most like real people out of all of the characters on the show. I know people, myself included, who have very similar experiences to them and I can relate to them the most. Both of them are flawed and make mistakes and try and do better which is so undeniably human. Marisha isn't afraid to make bold decisions despite the relentless hate she gets and that's so inspiring. I can't to see the character she created for campaign 3!
Listening to creative like Marisha really motivates me to keep working on creating my own "bullshit" for the internet. I just hope I'm not too old to start such a journey. Thank you, Marisha, Matt, and all the other cast members of CR for being such amazing people!
I struggled to like Keyleth early on because she reminded me of my own cringey poor decision making side I had in my early 20s. But like Marisha said- she's an actor. If she's making you feel some sort of way, then she did her job. And boy did she. Marisha allowed Keyleth to grow in a way I did not expect. And I see her making space for Beau to push through her insecurities to grow as well. Kudos, Marisha. It's been fun watching you experiment with these characters.
Having played D&D in the 70s and early 80s, I'm so proud of Marisha and her friends for making cool what I loved. I'm like a proud papa for them all. And because they made it cool 40 years later, I get to play a game I loved in my 20s again in my 60s.
This is so great!! Keep playing man! For the record we’re all so proud of you old timer dnd players even when it was really uncool to do so you pioneered the way for us to do the stuff we love now. Can’t imagine seeing how different the community is and yet how the spirit of the game is still living on so many years later :)
I don’t have time to watch this right now but I clicked like already just because I see so much bullshit about this wonderful human and I am not here for any of that.
"Lot of people didn't like Keyleth.," Lot of people mad she crushed in the battle royale and defeated Vecna because Marisha realized Planatars can read all languages. Keyleth is the sorta character I'd kill to DM for.
Just started watching, but can I just say I really wanna see you do one of these with Brian Foster? The man can get pretty deep one you get past the fact that he presents as a living meme
Let's be very clear, if Marisha's dad did a twitch stream it would have tens of thousands of people on his first stream because of the Critical Role community alone.
We watched Matt move into a new map room for how many hours. No audio just video. We made a game of counting how many times he dusted his hands off. We would totally be there.
That last question made me sad that you didn't remember it incorrectly. The Last of Us Part 2 was not the first time all of Critical Role was on a game together. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire was. Every member of Critical Role was either a playable character or a major part of the story (since Taliesin was Eothas); plus there was the Critical Role character pack so we make custom characters for the party out of Grog, Keyleth, Pike, Gilmore, Vax, Vex, Percy, and Scanlan. Figured I had to post this because I fucking adore Deadfire and I've played through it at least 6 times now.
I loved Keyleth, i legit have no respect for the people that sent hate towards Marisha, and i do not respect anyone that sends hate to any of the cast of CR.
I can’t imagine being propositioned like that on Hollywood blvd after being sexually harassed in college. Marisha is so unbelievably strong and still one of the nicest and most genuine human beings. She’s incredible
What’s so impressive to me is how she just kind of takes it, at least from what we see in interviews. She seems like she’s just “oh well it is what it is” and just moves on, and damn I wish I was capable of half that grace when dealing with far more trivial issues.
Everyone here is asking for CR cast. And yeah they are interesting. But How about getting 'Brian "cabbage" "Dubbleyuh" Foster' on here and interview the man who does the interviews. He has a really interesting life that he's touched on before (cults, drug addiction, family crazy and more). I'd love to get a deep dive on our boi BWF. If you do - Please. Please. Ask him about the legacy of pulloutking.
I really appreciate how humanizing this podcast is. It’s a lot more real and something I think we could stand to have a lot more of in our daily lives.
It really speaks huge amounts about Marisha's character how she deals with the negativity and how she talks about it, always with a smile, always looking for a positive note, not dwelling on the pain, while at the same time still admiting it was hard. She is truly an admirable person.
ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE.
Now we gotta figure out a couples podcast with some drinks... ;)

i feel ya friend, whenever I hear any of them its a fine balance between crying cheering screaming or simping
Nothing more badass than to constantly play victim and dismiss all criticism/negativity as "sExiSm".

That chimney question is a really deep cut.

I don’t get why she gets so much hate, it’s insane. She’s such a good player too!

Eagerly awaiting the day Phil gets to guest star on Critical Role.
I can't put into words how much Marisha's advice to her younger self means to me
I remember the heat she caught during campaign 1. I’ll admit I was annoyed by Keyleth at first. It took me a while to figure out how good an actress Marisha is. She really committed to the character even when things got rough. Total respect.
First Matt, now Marisha. Power couple moves. Love it.
Can't wait when BAFTA winner Laura Bailey makes an appearance here ;) lol
I'm gonna have to Google what a bafta is
Marisha NAILS it when talking about cancel culture, cool to hear her viewpoint on the subject
Bring Phil on Critical Role! Bard/Fighter who inspires you with epic news stories, THEN punches you in the throat ;)
PSA: If you liked this and want to know more about her watch Between the Sheets. Also! Most of the cast were in TLOU in some form directing or voice acting.
Include RE 6 as well. That was actually how most of the cast met each other.
Matt Mercer as Leon S. Kennedy still blows my mind. 🤯🤯🤯
Phil, I want you to know I have watched every commercial for the whole thing because of Marisha. If you put the rest of the cast of CR and Brian, I gurantee you I'll do the same
Literally pouring a glass of Scotch when she said "pour one out for your working actor." Working actor, this one's for you. Cheers.
Thanks for having Marisha on. I loved Matt’s video and I loved this. Definitely wouldn’t mind more CR cast members on the show *wink wink*
I always marvel about how much these audiences overlap, and I am here for it. Time to petition for everyone else!!
Never quite understood why people gave shit to Marisha for Keyleth. I loved her. She was so lovable.
@@QtPieMarth I completely agree with you!
@@wanderingfirbolg6738 In this house we love and treasure Marisha Ray
"Keyleth would f*ck things up"... flashback to goldfish xD love to all the female cast for the unnecessary hate they not only put up with but have been total bad ass bosses about
Idk why people didn't like Keyleth, I for one really enjoyed her character, and subsequent arc. It was so satisfying to see where she ended up
Interesting that you don't understand this.
@@dirkboch128 A lot of people are a lot more like Keyleth than a lot of us want to admit.
Therefore, she is absolutely one of my favorites.
@Craig Bphone how?
When does Critical Role get Phillip on as Guest? I'd love to see him play in Exandria with the crew!
100% this!! A Philly D bard/fighter (so he can inspire you with epic stories, THEN punch you in the face)
He should make another monk and punch people in the throat.
I think he’d be great in a one-shot like honey heist or something.
I don’t think Phil is much of an RPG gamer, but agreed I think it would be a blast.
I'd assume when CR can return to their previous configuration of seating but that depends on LA's Covid situation.
Imagine someone going to Hollywood Blvd. a while ago and seeing this being like, "Man, she looks familiar. I've seen her before."
I don’t have time to watch this right now but I clicked like already just because I see so much bullshit about this wonderful human and I am not here for any of that.
"Lot of people didn't like Keyleth.,"
Lot of people mad she crushed in the battle royale and defeated Vecna because Marisha realized Planatars can read all languages.
Keyleth is the sorta character I'd kill to DM for.
Also turning a Wyvern into a bunny rabbit was amazing.
Deadfire was planned to have them all though ... The Last of Us Part 2 wasn't, it just was a happy coincidence.
I loved Keyleth, i legit have no respect for the people that sent hate towards Marisha, and i do not respect anyone that sends hate to any of the cast of CR.
Wow my question got asked! Score!
I can’t imagine being propositioned like that on Hollywood blvd after being sexually harassed in college. Marisha is so unbelievably strong and still one of the nicest and most genuine human beings. She’s incredible
the real scary and sad part...... her story is far from unique 😡😭😡😭. do better humanity!
What’s so impressive to me is how she just kind of takes it, at least from what we see in interviews. She seems like she’s just “oh well it is what it is” and just moves on, and damn I wish I was capable of half that grace when dealing with far more trivial issues.
A Conversation With Shelby and Matt of Girlfriend Reviews, please!
I wonder if Phil kicks himself some times when he thought D&D wouldn't work as a streaming show?
I can totally relate with Marisha on a lot of this. Especially on making and maintaining friendships.
I really thought I didn't have 2 hours for this but apparently I did
I love Marisha Ray! She is talented, funny, sweet, badass, everything I love in someone! I’m excited for this interview!
Next up: Laura Bailey!
Honestly, him and taliesin, both people I desperately want an autobiography of
I really appreciate how humanizing this podcast is.
Never trust a Marisha-hater... We all stan Marisha Ray here!
I still dont get how anyone can attack ANY of the members of CR....
it makes me sad
