What many people don’t know is that this scene is meant to symbolize rape. It is shown with Maleficent trusting someone with a drink only for that drink to be spiked and she wakes up in terrible pain. This is an allegory meant to symbolize rape

Not even just in pain: this is agony. She’s confused at first. She’s shocked. She’s bleeding. She’s scarred. A HUGE part of her was forcefully and violently ripped from her in a moment of vulnerability by someone she not only trusted, but loved. This symbolism hits the proverbial nail DIRECTLY on the head.

The way Angelina played that scene, was of a woman who knows what true soul-breaking emotional pain feels like. The kind where you can't even stand and you're clutching your heart or stomach trying to not vomit or pass out and nothing makes sense for a few minutes, like your mind has broken and you're made of air.
I cry every single time I watch this scene.
    Gorgeously done.

What baffles me is how can someone care so much for someone, even to the point of falling in love with that person, and then turn to the dark side of the force over political ambition to the point of horribly hurting the very person he loved so much. Because whether people believe it or not, Stefan WAS in love with Maleficent when they were young adults (as evidenced by the fact that even after becoming adults and not seeing her for years he still couldn't bring himself to kill her). They were also genuine friends when kids. It was his ambition what ultimately drove him to a path of violence and hate. He had more ambition than love in him.

I always have this unpopular opinion in my head: if maleficent had caught him trying to steal her wings, she actually would hate him forever but I don't think she would come for revenge. What made her so rageful and evil was actually that something very vital for her was taken from her. Her wings. Her freedom. Her power. She took her wings back as this is a children's film but in real life, if we consider this as a metaphor, it is way more horrifying like there are many women who never take their wings back.

I don't know. If you think about the rape metaphor, attempted rape is still extremely traumatic. Back to the story, the fact that he was even going to take her wings still would have destroyed her trust in others

    • @Anurepa
      @Anurepa 7 місяців тому +11

Reclaiming her wings is also a nod to victims (particularly SA victims, since that’s the specific allusion here) reclaiming their agency. She’s still been hurt. She’s still got trust issues and had a long, difficult road to learn to love again. And it’s beautiful that the one she grew to love and trust is the one who helped empower her once again. It doesn’t undo the initial harm, but it heals.

God I felt this, I feel the pain, the ache, the initial disgust before it becomes fear. That overwhelming choking feeling that builds in your mouth until it’s sour. You cry, you mourn. It hurts, and even if you did get your wings back. It’s hard to ignore the pain that came when they were took. So you live in fear of your wings being stolen from you again.
This scene is so well done, being a victim myself this never fails to make me cry. Sympathy crying but of course at the end of the movie I can’t help but to cheer for her. Even if she is the “villain.”

stefan steps back he refuses to cry because if he does the king wins and that means he betrayed his true love for NOTHING so he approaches the king ans saids "your majesty thank you for naming me your heir and giving me your lovely daughter its a shame you died in the night before announing it yourself" he then SMOTHERS HIM

I've never seen this movie, but I read awhile ago about this specific scene and its symbolism. I'm not even sure what prompted me to seek it out, but in any event, as a two-time survivor... I have to say, I really *felt* that betrayed, horrified, broken scream in the depths of my soul. I actually found myself sort of physically locking up upon hearing it, because it contained that much raw emotional power. I'm surprised to say that I'm trembling right now.
I believe the only other fictional portrayal I've seen that triggered a reaction anything like this was the episode of Mad Men with Joan (iykyk).
I'm still torn on whether to see this movie, but I can say with certainly that Angelina Jolie did an outstanding job with this scene. 💔

To think Stefan did this maleficent so he could king not only is this a symbolism for rape it shows that some boys as soon as they get what they abandon the girl they like for another one in addition to being upset about losing her wings maleficent was probably upset that Stefan left her for another woman and afterwards she took revenge on their child it's like the old saying there is no one angrier than a scorned woman.

The scene where she enters his throne room and you can clearly see that he still has guilt about what he did even after all those years , his pride wouldn’t let him apologize . And if I’m being honest , I do believe that he was in love with maleficent but his love for power is what overshadowed his love for maleficent , you can clearly tell that he’s not in love with his wife at all ,I know this may sound sound silly , but I do believe that he was in love with maleficent , he even begs her not to put the curse on his daughter . But maleficent did that to hurt him because they were lovers at one point and he betrayed her and took her wings .

I kept saying in the stupid car, “”why didn’t the wings return to her right after they were cut off, and remained in the wagon, and let that piece of crap take them with him?”” I feel like she needed to go through that, to really grow into her self, and the wings eventually returned back to her. Okay so I finally watched the film after years of trying to avoid it and it is exactly what I expected it to be. I knew they were going to make such an awesome villain, good...why?😆 Her name means she causes harm towards others, Mistress Of All Evil. why change that? she was a badass villain. They made King Stefan into a villain but that is to be expected in films nowadays. It's like changing the story of Harry Potter, his parents are the villains and a now female Voldemort help raise Harry. Which I don't doubt that Hollywood would do. The worst part of it is that Maleficent broke her curse and helped wake Aurora?🤷‍♀️. Why change villains? We wouldn't want to change the Joker and see him secretly help raise Bruce. Maleficent would have been an epic film if she remained a villain. I'm alright with an origin story where Maleficent had a sad beginning so long as she remains evil, kind of like Charlie Theron's version of the Evil Queen. I think Disney should stop hiring fanfiction writers. The good news is you can't change the original, she will forever remain a villainous icon and is remembered as such even in her dragon form.

She was an enemy to the previous human King. The king challenged anyone to go and kill Maleficent for him. Whoever succeeded would be rewarded by becoming the next king and marrying the previous king’s daughter. Stefan wanted the throne, But he couldn’t bear to kill maleficent because she was his childhood friend so instead he cut off her wings to spare her life. I don’t think he regretted his actions, but I do think he felt guilty and afraid, because this would lead her to become cold and cruel, eventually cursing his daughter as revenge. He became king, but the price he paid was losing Maleficent’s love and trust. Maleficent felt betrayed by him because she was in love with him. Him taking her wings was a sign of spiritual rape. He took what he wanted and left. And thus she lost her innocence and became coldhearted and cruel. His priority of his ambition was root cause of all this from the beginning
