I think the line "what have you done to my beautiful self" was literally perfect for this scene because ravens are known for being cocky and then as a human he becomes more humble even being around maleficent
Maleficent trusted her wings so much that she was never afraid of falling. And in this scene she tells diaval that she needs him to be her wings. So I think what she meant was that she needed him to be someone she could trust as much as she did to her wing❤
Maleficent is extremely powerful. Did that idiot really think he was gonna get away with what he did to her. Even without her wings, she has immense power to destroy anybody who stands in her way
I don’t think he thought he was going to get away with it. I think he was so consumed in his mission to acquire the crown, on being king, that he didn’t even consider what the consequences. Didn’t consider them, or didn’t care. It’s a shame, really. He could’ve had love, and a life filled with enchantment. Instead, he traded it all for a life of guilt and paranoia, and in the end, lost his daughter as well as his wife.
I just hate Disneys new trend of “redeeming the villain means vilifying the good guys”. King Stefan was nowhere near this bad in the animated version. But I guess Disney figured if Maleficent was going to be a good guy then somebody had to take her place as the villain.
In the "making of" featurette, Sam Riley says this was the first scene they filmed. So his very first day on set for the poor guy, he was stark naked in front of Angelina Jolie, and three make-up girls were standing around discussing very matter-of-factly whether they needed to shave his arse, and he was wondering "Are we actually having this conversation on the set of a Disney movie?" LMAO
Ryan Swift Hi, I searched for it for you but it seems to have disappeared. If memory serves (as it's been a number of months since I watched it) it was an Oh My Disney web featurette and the interviewer was a Latino lady, if that helps?
@@tropiclush89 No she isn't. Someone can not wreck a happy and strong home. Plus Brad and Jennifer admitted that the marriage wasn't working out and they weren't truly happy plus they wanted different things.

I remember having a crush on Diaval..great times This also saddens me. Poor Maleficent had a big part of her taken away, all so a man could be in power. She’s deprived of all happiness, and therefore has forced her friends (which we know she still loves, deep down) to become subjects in her little dark kingdom
Yes, and the first thing she does to Diaval is to deprive him of HIS wings when turning him into a man (though later, she uses Diaval's wings). I think the point in this relationship is that Diaval, over time, comes to deeply care for Maleficent, and she does not recognize it until the end.
and unappreciative as well, stefen saved her life by taking her wings and saying she is dead. if he had not done this, someone else would of actually killed her for a kingdom. she is bitter and vengeful and goes and does the exact same thing to the crow ( takes his wings and turns him into a man, which he is sad about his loss of freedom, notice the way he looks back to his missing wings several times.) but then also makes him her slave. shows the spite of women and how this seems OK when a woman does this but not a man. there are so many interesting aspects to the movie, including the satanic one mentioned earlier in the movie.
While it may be true that killing Maleficent would have been even worse, I wouldn't say that betraying one's childhood friend in such a horrible manner is something worthy of their gratefulness. As someone she loved and trusted, Stefan could have warned her of the danger she was in and together they could have thought of another way to make her pass for dead. And even if the scheme had failed, I'm quite sure that if he had consulted her, she would have much preferred to take her chances with the threat of potential intruders than to be tricked and robbed of her wings like that. But winning the king's favor was clearly more important to Stefan than truly helping his supposed friend. However, I do agree that Maleficent's subsequent treatment of Diaval wasn't much better, and it seems to me that it was precisely one of the things that the movie was trying to convey. Maleficent is an ambiguous character and I really don't think she was supposed to be depicted as being right in exerting her vengeance; quite the contrary, as shown later when she bitterly regrets casting the curse on Aurora. Making the raven her slave isn't proof of her being a strong female character, but rather of her being unable to let anyone in again after having her trust broken. She doesn't think Diaval would be willing to help her without some ulterior motive and so she controls him to ensure he won't also backstab her, but we're never told that it's OK. It would be a little worrying if the situation remained the same in a way that made it seem for the best, but Maleficent goes through some redeeming character development and eventually comes to value Diaval's loyalty for what it is. If you remember, before going into battle near the end, she frees him from the engagement he had taken toward her, and from that point on, it's by his own free will that he chooses to stay by her side nonetheless, thus proving her wrong in believing that true dedication didn't exist just because one man had been treacherous to her. The ending wasn't quite clear on exactly to what extent their relationship changed after the events in the castle, but I got the impression that Maleficent now saw him much more as an equal and a friend than a servant.
CrowTRobot1977 he betrayed his lover/best friend for wild ambition after she spared him the first time they met she has a right to be pissed after being mutilated
Yeah, and when you see (I don't remember if it was deleted or not anymore, just that it existed) the scene where he stops her from changing him by actually reaching out and gently taking a couple fingers to her wrist. Then he looks her straight in the eye and states his piece, before adding, "Now go on, change me if you like. I don't care anymore." And you see how the way she looks at him after that changes. So you see her beginning to think of him as more of an equal and less of a servant/slave/lesser. And even when they are talking after she turns him into the wolf, you see the teasing between them is similar to an older, bickering married couple unlike at the beginning where he walks with his face cast down and several paces behind her.
+CrowTRobot1977 I think you may be reading more into it than what is there. Maleficent doesn't enslave him, he volunteers after she saves him. "And in return for saving my life, I am your servant. Whatever you need." And the loss of his wings is only while he is in man form, he's still got them whenever he's in bird form, while Maleficent's wings are gone forever at this point. Plus she frees him from her service before entering the castle - he sticks with her out of his own free will. And he also gets some pretty cool wings as a dragon as well - I'm sure they were more than adequate compensation for temporary loss of wings when in human form ;)

The best thing about Diablo was the little chase scene before he got turned to stone (admittedly, I enjoyed that a lot). The best thing about Diaval is what a unique force he is in "Maleficent" - he isn't a creature of magic; he isn't a human; he is loyal to Maleficent, yet even though she made him what he is, he has all sorts of interests and opinions independent of her. I'm just impressed they spent so much time making him a complete character.
@@Aileil i believe the reason they spent time on him as a character is because he's supposed to be a foil to stefan in every way. a loving and playful father figure to aurora, kind and selfless (if sarcastic) and completely loyal. it's even more obvious in the original script, where he is explicitly maleficent's second love and she is in denial about her feelings for him until the end, which has maleficent hold diaval's hand, implying she's ready to love again, but taking it slow.

I literally dropped my popcorn when Sam Riley first appeared on the screen in this scene. Oh. My. God. Quite possibly the best looking man I've ever seen, imho.
the whole release of power at 2:50 I think could have been used more in the movie either in that scene or someplace else to show how big of a boom she can make!
+Miya Hockenhull To me, just a pair of symbolic claws of his roots as crow. Since Disney used to be quite dualistic (good vs. evil) they might play with certain audiences' belief systems that it represents something diabolic ;-)
Diaval's covered in forest grime when turned into a human which I consider more realistic as any other time the animal is perfectly clean, and the only way I'd excuse that if it was one that naturally grooms itself.
That one tree warrior or guardian or tree herder or whatever the hell is supposed to be in fantasy terms, was just too ready to become evil lol. He was like "bow to evil"
***** Interestingly, Diablo (Spanish for devil obviously) was a raven and Diaval is a crow. No big deal on first sight, but I think chosen very deliberately considering the short outro on 2:00 where Diaval (back-shifted as crow) flies by the scarecrow. If you'd ask me, a poetic reference or subtle wake up call from the Disney crew that the devil is nothing but a decoy used by religions as scare tactics to keep their followers in fear to prevent them from stop believing. My 666 cents ;)
Ben noneofyourbeeswax I've never played nor seen the Diablo game, so can't confuse anything with a cut scene from that game. Regardless it's a raven or crow, the fact that particular scene both opens as closes with the scarecrow indicates a subtle message from the director. Also note the scarecrow in the opening scene wears a cloth, but is disrobed in the closing scene. I'd say: almost poetically profound :)
It’s interesting to think that if Maleficent hadn’t of scared Diavel off when they first met, he might not have ended up in that peasant’s net, I like to think that she recognises that and that’s why she chose to save him, because she realises that she did kind of screw him over for no good reason, foreshadowing her inadvertently punishing another innocent person for someone’s else crimes, before correcting her mistake.
Come on, I can't be the only person who waited for Maleficent's eyes to drop down briefly and come back up with her smirking at 1:20, LOL! This scene made me laugh so much because I just bet Angelina wanted to do that, but of course it's a Disney movie so you can't do that right? ;)
Theory: the moors reflects what Maleficent’s heart looks and feels like and when she is feeling betrayed the moors will show whatever her inner heart would look like
Before being betrayed, the color of her magic was golden yellow. After betrayal, it turned into jade green. Everyone has a bright past before getting hurt.
Reminds me of the quote "nothing gold can stay"
The colour of her magic is still golden yellow. It turns jade green when she does a bad spell and golden yellow when it’s a good spell.

I wish she had stayed in the mountain. I totally preferred the forbidden mountain in the original movie over the Moors as her stronghold.
Personally the Moors looks like a great place to live! I'd live to live there!
Diaval is the BEST THING in the original Maleficent film. I really hope they don't screw his character up in the sequel.
She could of been like: I’ll forgive you and revoke this curse right now if you give me back my wings!
Damn, she manages to look fantastic even with horns.
I've been searching for this scene for ages and only just found it! Thanks for uploading :)
You're very welcome, thanks for sharing!
Maleficent 3 would be Maleficent and Diaval’s love story! Woohoo!!! #MaleVal ever since! ♥️
I don't know why but I like the way she strokes him when he is a raven...maybe because it shows her possessive feeling towards her servant..?
“What have you done to my beautiful self🤨” the self confidence he has 😂
I ship them so hard😍
@cristina Banuelos they suit each other
i love this scene, it shows the evil take the place where her heart just broke
This movie was so ahead of its time
Her "Well, Well" and his "What have You done to my beautiful self" are my favorite dialogue of the movie
Yayyy!! I was hoping someone had uploaded this scene!! The start of my new ship xD
Yeah, I'm happy it's back online after my disputed copyright infringement got annulled on my fair use ground.
Maybe I'm crazy but I shipped the crow with aurora... yeah I'm weird
@@TheEdagain Don't worry you're not alone...
@@TheEdagain at first I did that too🤣🤣...but now I prefer Maleficent and Diaval,
This vain little fucker I love him.
1:28 YO NOBODY IS GONNA TALK ABOUT THAT SUSPICIUS ZOOM ON THE VIDEO????
Diavall is such a father and brother to aurora now ❤️
I definitely see him as a older brother to aurora. 😊
I've been looking for this scene, I just love how she's all like "Rawwwwwww!" *green lightning stuff*!
the whole release of power at 2:50 I think could have been used more in the movie either in that scene or someplace else to show how big of a boom she can make!
What are they trying to point out on his chest?
+Miya Hockenhull To me, just a pair of symbolic claws of his roots as crow. Since Disney used to be quite dualistic (good vs. evil) they might play with certain audiences' belief systems that it represents something diabolic ;-)
ikr
Read the comment below yours ^-^
best, response.
Miya Hockenhull because of the scar? Idk
Diaval & Maleficent should've fell in love.🖤
The actor who plays Diaval said that Diaval is in love with Maleficent. I want Diaval and Maleficent together, I ship them 😢
Diaval was by far the best character of the movie.Never thought a crow whould capture my attention like that.
Diaval: *turns into a man* Wtf!
Farmer guy: ITS A DEMON!
Me: *Its a Diaval.*
love sam riley so much
Diaval's covered in forest grime when turned into a human which I consider more realistic as any other time the animal is perfectly clean, and the only way I'd excuse that if it was one that naturally grooms itself.
Oh that line of Sam Riley " what have you done to my beautiful self "
That one tree warrior or guardian or tree herder or whatever the hell is supposed to be in fantasy terms, was just too ready to become evil lol. He was like "bow to evil"
I'll never call him Diaval
Any particular reason why?
C. Smith
because Walt Disney, back in 1959, called him Diablo and that's what i prefer to call him
***** Interestingly, Diablo (Spanish for devil obviously) was a raven and Diaval is a crow.
Mikel Sablo I think you're confused between the game Diablo which also had an cut scene with an crow.
Her anger amuses me..
In a good and intrigued way
The fact still remains that he calls her "mistress" is funny asf
Come on, I can't be the only person who waited for Maleficent's eyes to drop down briefly and come back up with her smirking at 1:20, LOL! This scene made me laugh so much because I just bet Angelina wanted to do that, but of course it's a Disney movie so you can't do that right? ;)
Basically Diaval was her service crow.
Angelina Jolie Really Did A WonderFul Job Portraying Maleficent I Just ♥ Her
"He did this to me so he could be King"~Malefecient
Love how a wild crow automatically has a grasp on English and the concept of returning a favor.
Don't take me seriously, it's a joke lmao
The literal definition of "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"
Theory: the moors reflects what Maleficent’s heart looks and feels like and when she is feeling betrayed the moors will show whatever her inner heart would look like
"Its a demon!!" Runs away, dog runs too, going "yip! yip! yip! yip!!"
