I always say this, and i will continue to say it.
Jeff Kaplan and his team actively spoke about this when Overwatch 1 released, they said they tested 5v5, 7v7 and a few others and none of them worked, 6v6 is the one that clicked. This whole argument had been completely destroyed for years, 5v5 DOES NOT WORK.

Hey remember when the devs said it's impossible to go back to 6v6 because of the coding and programming? And yet a dude does it in an hour of custom games lmao. AND IT PLAYS BETTER
I don't think it was devs that actually said that. Pretty sure it was just community copium majority of the time.
It was another point to try and discredit the whole conversation about 6v6.

Genuinely that point was null the second the community made it because 6v6 was still coded into the game on the launch of OW 2.. Like it was never even gone to begin with, they literally just removed a slot and moved some numbers around. You could just make 6v6 in customs on your own, which these guys are doing NOW.

Marvel rivals is 6v6. If that game does well it's going to put pressure on the ow devs to go back to 6v6. Honestly it's really impressive for an alpha.
i don't really think it'd make overwatch go back to 6v6. if it does well, it'd probably just embolden overwatch to solidify the 5v5 formula. games being too similar is a great way to invite unnecessary comparisons but if a 6v6 game is succeeding in that niche, blizzard is better served by succeeding in their niche, which is currently 5v5. and they get the added benefit of having fewer people clamoring for 6v6 in the current game.

@@RyuNoZero I'm not really sure why you necessarily need 6v6 in overwatch if enough of the community switched to Marvel Rivals (in this hypothetical) but it is a possibility. Assuming Rivals is a success, odds are, both games just successfully do their own things.
If Rivals is far and away superior and OW2 is left with a minority of it's community left then it'll probably just die but yeah they might do a 6v6 revival thing as a last ditch effort but if you're already happy with Rivals, the majority of the community will probably just continue to happily play Rivals.
This is better then 5v5 by a long shot look at the interaction within the game

I could argue with the incentives like invites and stuff, they won't *actively* speak out against 5v5. Sure, hinting it may not be bad, but if they do this, might jeopardize what they have financially going on to some extent.

I think at this point it isn't big enough yet for them to respond in any way. If it becomes bigger by more people picking it up (hoping that), then Blizzard might be forced to respond in one way or another. Then they can't ignore the 6v6 anymore like they have been. I just hope if it comes to that that their response won't be just taking the mode down.

doom going tank was one of the better decisions made going into 5v5. As fun as he may have been, having a character with so much hard cc built into his kit was bad enough. DPS Doom was also way too snowbally and toxic for supports to deal with

Having a 2nd tank saves you and shares the pressure, actually pushing lines instead of being exposed constantly.

It feels way more thrilling to watch than 5v5. In addition to all of the advantages regarding tanks and balance that you addressed many times in your videos, I also think that in 6v6 big plays are bigger because of the additional player. There is simply more to do and a good play feels more rewarding and satisfying.

Im sorry, but all OW1 needed was active balance, less CC and less Sustain and it could have been everything we ever wanted.
5v5 is just some budget Overwatch, its so much worse in terms of Teamplay and enjoyment.
Ive been a 5v5 Hater since they annoucned it, but i went into the beta with an open mind, but 6v6 just always felt superior, so i hope we eventually get this back.
(But i must agree 2CP should not return, its a flawed format or would need major map reworks)

Mauga still seems a little strong to me, and I feel like 5v5ers would say “ha, look the tanks are too powerful”- but then the beauty of 6v6 is that we also have the ability to simply make mauga weaker and he’ll still have a niche. Because he’s not competing for the only tank slot
