It's amazing how much they eat their own tail instead of just admitting they were wrong and going back to 6v6.
I'm not a big ow fan but from what i heard the balance team seems to have been changed and the new team seems to be better. My guess would be that, IF 6v6 is better (i'd not know i never played the format) the team is trying to save face for a while longer while trying to convince the higher ups to eventually go back to 6v6.

I think if it's even remotely on their radar of possibility they need to start going in that direction now cause everything will have to be retweeked for 6v6 anyways. We've seen 5v5 not work for this many seasons if we can see it surely they can also they just won't take their foot out their mouths

@@Malxer I'm not saying we shouldn't go back to 6v6 as soon as possible, but it isn't as simple as just flipping a switch. It's going to take time. I can almost guarantee that the "bunch of randoms who did it by themselves" have a bunch of issues which won't show up with such a small and isolated playtest. (I'm assuming they playtested it).

Literally will only ever occur when the game is on its last legs and about to be discontinued by Blizzard unless they do something crazy to shake up the game and get interest back in it. So, maybe like 5 years from now?

I see Hog in literally every single game now, it's so obnoxious. Hate playing with him and against him, and nothing has changed about his identity compared to OW1 -except now there's no secondary tank to make up for all the bs he brings by not being a real team-based tank.

The strongest weapon we player have, is just stop playing the game.... If we are not enjoying the game, and the devs don't listen to us, they will listen to a ghost town (game). If we cry every day about the state of the game, and keep playing it 24/7, the devs will not have any motive to make drastic changes...
Helldivers 2 has devs that listen and advocate for players. I thought it was impossible after years of Overwatch ignoring input.

I agree with you I used to play OW everyday faithfully for hours it was the only game I really played and I’m now playing other games trying different games out and enjoying some games I never thought I’d enjoy playing like Diablo V, League of Legends and other games of that style. I’ve always been an fps player but I’m branching out now.

I’ve played Overwatch for 7 years and I still love the franchise, but I’m so sad this game came out like this after so long, I’m embarrassed to be an overwatch player man, time to move on to marvel rivals or something

SAME, it used to be a "whatever" thing when I said I played Overwatch, and now it's embarrassing. My friends and I mainly only play Total Mayhem anyway, since it's more fun for us (most of the time), but damn. DAMN.
They really do try to make it difficult to love the game. I didn't realise they released the mid-season patch so I checked it out. Pathetic honestly. 8 characters buffed, but not buffed by a lot. Poor Hanzo gets a dragonstrike buff when they know he needs his oneshot back. Graviton Surge buffed, ok? Gravitic Flux buff, why?. Echo duplication buff, seems random. Junkrat buff, yeah cuz he is dogshit. Rally buff, did she really need it? JQ buff/QOL, good. Ball buff, he could use all the help that he can get. Is this going to change the meta? HIGHLY DOUBT IT. Tank passive buff, all I can hear is Hog and Mauga's fat ass walking into the room. Oops, now I guess they are going to run the metal ranks EVEN MORE. They change the DPS passive at the start of the season to reduce the impact of these changes on Hog and Mauga but I don't think it did anything since they were the top dogs after Orisa got nerfed.

90% of new content is still designed around 6v6 because 5v5 was a last second panic move in marketing. It is as simple as changing numbers to get 6v6 running in a better state than 5v5.

@CReeseMLP_YT no, F2P was the best idea they've had in a long time. We didn't need to go 5v5 when going F2P. It was to build hype acting like 5v5 is a totally different game.

I love how people in favor of 5v5 have the (allegedly good) argument of "we need 5v5 cus of queue times".
Counterpoint: I play majority quickplay, and even there, how come tank queue is INSTANT 24/7 every day of the week -while dps queue takes on average 5-10x longer (I measured this over multiple days. 5x being the closest in proximity, 10x being the furthest). Actually one day it was closer to 50x worse dps queue time compared to tank (20 seconds vs nearly 10 minutes), but I'll write it off as an outlier. In what world is that positive where I can queue tank within 10-20 seconds, but dps typically takes between 2-5 minutes? And that's on a good day. We removed 50 PERCENT of all tank players, and we still have horrendous queue times. If that isn't a clear indicator 5v5 didn't actually solve anything, then idk what is.
Maybe if we just focus on making the tank experience ENJOYABLE (aka 6v6 lends itself far better for this), maybe just maybe we'd start seeing improved queue times. Hell, at the very worst case we'll have the same bad queue times as we do now, but at least those who DO queue, won't have a shitfest of an experience playing hold-the-line tankswap stomp-or-get-stomped mayhem.

Im currently not even playing the game, since 5v5 it has felt fucking dogshit, not really worth it.
But i do expect we go back to 6v6 eventually, OW has the potential to be huge but if the gameplay sucks, it wont have a chance. I think Sams prediction of like 6 more seasons of this bs sounds about right, but after that we need 6v6.
Only concern is, we pushed away so many tank players and just people in general with 5v5/OW2, will the Q times be alright? If OW2 had launched with 6v6 and F2P, Live-Service, etc. then no doubt that would have had good Qs
But now the game leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths, the only way i see the game becoming big again is a rebrand to just "Overwatch"
Anyways, the last 2 years have been horrible, i have watched my favourite game ever turn into something unrecognisable, that feels nothing like the OW i loved.

On a more serious note, I’ve also had a similar experience to you (and probably every tank main). Tank ques are instant. If I have to take a bathroom break, I don’t even get into que because I know by the time I get back, the game will already have started.
After a particularly brutal series of matches, I decided to take a break from tank and play dps. Took about 2 minutes, but I’m so used to tank ques that it felt like forever. I’m in gold right now, so I know I have the best case scenario in terms of queue times. I can’t even imagine how bad the queue time disparity between tank and other roles gets the higher and higher you go.
The matchmaker is practically foaming at the mouth waiting for someone to queue tank to complete games at this point. No surprises though. Solo tanking just blows. If you are aggressive, people complain about you not peeling enough. If you focus on peeling and play more passively, people complain about you not taking enough space. It’s almost like only have one character in a role puts too much responsibility on that one character.
I love how 5v5s will use queue times as an agrument but the queue times are practically the same as end OW1 and that game was dead 💀. Legit OW1 never had queue time issues until the devs killed it off and abandoned it for 3 years. ALSO, they actively said that double sheild was the most balanced the game was even though every one said October 17th patch was the best but the devs said "We know better than you".
@@supershotgun6921 yup, game was dead for 2 years and had TWICE the amount of tank slots to fill, yet it wasn't any different from the current situation which also benefits from player influx and wider (aka worse) matchmaking in all game modes..
Speaking of the chat ban, I am glad nobody reported me when I said that the Blizz devs are "fucking methheads" after I got silver players in my diamond games. And its not even their fault cuz they just wanna play with friends.
I still think they are, especially with how often they don't actually try to address any of the problems balance wise.

Everything about ranked this season is just horrible. Before season 10 I was easily in diamond on every role. Now if you get one bad loss streak, it feels impossible to climb up. Just yesterday I lost a game and lost 32% because apparently it was a terrible lose even though the game went into overtime. Won my next game and when 26-0. Only 4% up... Like make it make sense. You get hard punished for losing a single game and barely anything for winning a game. Doesn't matter if I solo queue or party up, it just isn't rewarding. They said solo queuing would be better, this is the worst experience I've had solo queuing since starting to play ow2
OW1 comp felt the same way. Easy win, gain a lot. Fight hard for a win that felt impossible, gain little. Get totally stomped in a match no one could have won in: lose a lot, as if it were entirely your fault.
The most frustrating part of OW2 is that the game is so close to being amazing with QOL stuff they’ve done with some of the features, But the devs insist on dropping the ball every time with the balancing and doubling down on the 5v5 format. Going back to 6v6 would immediately fix the major pain points of OW2, while they could work on the balancing and updates . The game should feel like you can express yourself in what you want to play firstly and then we can adjust balance as needed.

Idk I disagree, I think most heroes have options to deal with venture except maybe brig. He’s bad if you can space him out, or if you have a shotgun, or if you have mobility, or if you have CC
Honest question: who is out here saying venture is OP? She has good burst damage combing abilities but they got rid of the one shot combo. Venture is useless vs flyers, tanky heroes, snipers, etc. The ult feels really underwhelming most of the time because of how situational the 'ultimate' is. I've played a lot of venture and the real value from the hero comes from burrowing and surprising people for a close range combo while refilling your ammo.
@@metal100k They got rid of the one-shot combo in the same sense they got rid of Hog's one-shot combo. Aka in technicality on paper from raw numbers, yes. But in context of a match, a lot of times you still get one-shot easily (or what feels like it).
Anyways, Venture ofc isn't OP. She's very situationally strong to a perhaps broken degree, but it's not a situations he can actively enforce on her own at a low skill floor vs equally skilled opponents. And at the very least, her being OP or not is not related to my comment so idk if I should even engage in that debate. I don't see her as OP at all, just as situationally broken / obnoxious depending on context, more so than most other heroes.

Tbh they aren't even situationally broken. A lot of heroes in the situations they are strong in would likely succeed as much as they do. Ult is borderline useless. The real strength and uniqueness of venture comes down to the burrowing which, they can't buff because it's an immort that can contest objectives and already reloads the gun. You play around venture like you play around a brig, with distance and mobility. Every time I see my team struggle against a venture I go like soldier or junk and play a way from the team and I can punish the venture going for the team or I can easily run away if they go for me.
It's wierd that Winston has more ranged options than venture. Winston has damage denial and great mobility on top of that too. I know it's crossing roles but even in the dps role, junk can have just as high burst damage. Reaper is good up close and has a similar immort in wraith. Mei is God tier close range threat that can wall off supports. I'm just struggling to find the exception for venture you know?
They could just rerelease OW1 and everyone would be happy.

For the 5v5 defenders how are q times better when I play quick play and I have my team without a DPS, Support or a Tank for a minute or two before someone actually ques?
So in 6v6 for every QP game you had every spot filled for every game for the entire game?
I think you should honestly try to have flats and emongg join your 6v6 pugs and let them play tank together again and they would fold and push for the 6v6 composition again.

OW2 is the definition of insanity
Seriously, penalties for leaving QP/unranked games is insane. The XP penalty in OW1 was stupid but meaningless. Now it just causes more toxicity. Like the Circuit Royale game I was in recently where after 4 minutes my DPS had 0 elims and the other team's had 40. I watched the replay after and saw that our DPS was playing on a controller, holding down the button and shooting the ground, walls, and the payload most of the time. The other team's DPS were on keyboard/mouse and were essentially uncontested. But if I dare to leave the game a minute early, because the cart hasn't moved in 3 minutes and I can barely walk out of spawn, oh, I'm the bad guy. And if I ask what's wrong with our DPS in match chat, I get reported for INAPPROPRIATE COMMUNICATION. And if I sit in spawn, I get reported for AFK. And if I walk into the enemy team and die to avoid that and the AFK timer, I get reported for INTENTIONALLY FEEDING.
WHAT IS A TANK PLAYER SUPPOSED TO DO!??! I had more elims than our DPS! The only winning move is not to play. Great job, Blizzard.
atp the only way to avoid getting reported from afk is to program a macro that makes you move around in "unpredictible" but the same lines
Yeah, the only option is to just throw to get the match over with, and hope the next game is what you want.
No wonder you can't queue for a map you like. It would highlight how few players there are actually playing the game.
Single tank is all about which tank is OP relative to the other. Every season has been that way. Either it's Winston, or JQ, or Zara, or Mauga, or Orissa, etc.
The tanks just play musical chairs because you cannot play off of synergies to exploit weaknesses. They've also buffed them to the point that weaknesses are less exploitable, or the counters are weaker.

They all talk about it. It stems mostly from the effects of a declining player base, which makes their high-level queue times excessively long. Players at that level just aren't around any more.
I hear you Samito....but I can't give a pass for the dev's, when OW1 competitive system had the best matchmaking of any multiplayer game I ever played.

@@mryellow6918 it wasnt perfect, but as someone who did play ow1 comp for atleast 300 hours. It was pretty damn solid. I could genuinely do what I wanted, and a steam roll game was a rarity for me. It was always close and frustrating to lose or euphoric to win. It was nice. Not anymore though lol

I played almost exclusively tank for the majority of OW1. I imagine being a new player trying to learn tank in 5v5 is a pretty overwhelming and thankless task. Everyone else in the game has a counterpart to support them but the tank -- the expectation is that players should just intrinsically know how to both control space and protect their team as a singular tank. It was a far more intuitive role in 6v6 because two tanks shared those responsibilities, much like one support can still focus on utility while the other focuses on raw healing output. I don't envy new players approaching the daunting role of tank, and it shows in average metal rank matches. The only time I hop on tank myself is when I get sick of noob tanks and just want to carry a few wins.

I honestly wish people did more 6v6 custom games more often. I very rarely see any when I look.
Yeah custom games in general are all but vapors these days. There used to be 5 pages of games, now you're lucky to get one.
also, and i could be totally wrong about this, but I feel like push and flash point are steam-roll-centric game modes period. I haven't ran them with a full stack, but if you're assuming it's a solo/duo group with randoms, you're asking significantly more of the players in the lobby to coordinate for those two game modes versus the other game modes. The maps are too large with too much variety, and it's a frustrating experience when your team loses half of a fight and now has to wait a minute to reset because two or three of your players have to run it back from spawn. More often than not, someone gets greedy for a pick and now your team is divided again, or someone over-extends while players are running back and by the time they get to the fight the next team fight is already lost. It's just an endless cycle of bullshit because the maps are huge with too many places you need to be in order to be contributing passive value to your team.
None of this is a problem in theory. In theory your team mates just play properly and don't commit when they shouldn't. In theory you should still be able to make the same uncoordinated pushes you'd make on a payload. But in practice, it's far easier for it to not work out that way. And now your game is lost from the jump, or theirs, because the maps and modes aren't conducive to coordination and proximity.
I bet those owl players were really devastated that some sweaty failed pro career stacks were beating them in ranked after they probably spent the entire day scrimming.

You know something very similar happened to gears of war 5 back in the day, For a long time it was always a competitive 5v5 game, but the developers adjusted the competitive matches as a 4v4 and that took away all the fun, it declined significantly. So, I don't know, never prioritize the competitive community I guess

Step 1: Hire Samito. They wouldnt need that much of his time (can still do Mineplex).
Step 2: Fix game. Dude barely misses and even if when he does, his success rate is better compared to the OW2 track record.
You can be sure that if they wanted to, they would do so. They know about him - he just isn't a good fit, so far.

As a tank main (I know it’s painful as is) this has been the worst tank by a long shot. I am either truly indestructible probably the most I’ve been in any season, as Mauga so long as I have even minor heals I’m a menace. Alternatively I get melted like butter by specific comps. It’s definitely not fun for me whether I’m winning or losing and I know it isn’t fun for my team or the enemies.
The problem with reporting is that an account can be banned for FALSE REPORTS. A player who literally never speaks in game can still be banned for INAPPROPRIATE COMMUNICATION if enough players report him citing that reason. It doesn't matter if a player follows the TOS. So the whole reporting system is essentially a way for players to vote on what they want to see in their games, and if enough players vote against you (which can easily happen if you're a solo playing with and against groups of immature people), you can get voted out, and Blizzard will then look for any reason to justify the ban post-facto. It's a farce, and Blizzard knows it, but Blizzard doesn't care. The only solution is to vote with our feet and play other games.
This is the real reason he seldom talks in-game chat to the other players. Once they clock him as Samito, they try to kill his accounts through false reporting.
I already feel so bad for the all the tank players stuck in a toxic relationship with ow2 and persist through the awful tanking experience despite it all. And I feel even worse for them now knowing that they will have to up with this for a minimum of 5 or 6 more seasons. That's rough...
Was there ever a sizable portion of the playerbase that actively campaigned and advocated for 5 v 5? Or was it a top-down change that the players weren't asking for? Or a combo of both? I don't recall ever seeing anyone saying "Please bring the game to a 5 v 5 format," but I could be wrong
Orisa was a problem in OW1 with a shield and she's still a problem in OW2 without a shield

The last time I reported someone was a tank that kept feeding, and when I asked him to re-group and stop feeding he goes on to throw and whine/slurs for the whole second round of the match. Funny enough even in paladins 5v5 it is most common to draft 2 tanks 1 support and 1-2 damage/flanks because unless your can build a comp around 1 tank it’s not optimal lol

Rebranding after getting a handful more seasons of 5v5 sounds about right. To the devs, 5v5 is a cornerstone of OW2 and part of what justifies the "2" even though everyone else saw the PvE content as the only justification. Therefore, they would probably go with a different title in order to "reintroduce" 6v6 instead of "revert" back to it.
Guys, we’ll never get 6v6. And many more problems won’t be solved ever. Just quit the game and play something else. I’m playing God of war ragnorak and horizon forbidden west and I’m actually enjoying myself. If you want a competitive online game then go try Tekken 8 or maybe Helldivers 2. Don’t play something that you don’t truly enjoy.

I mean from like seasons 3-5 the game was in a pretty decent spot where a lot of heroes were viable.
The only heroes who weren’t good were release Lifeweaver, and Hog.
Then they buffed Orisa and Bastion, while also releasing Illari.

The amount of people I’ve heard saying 5v5 can work just makes me lose faith. When I heard Lhcloudy was a hard advocate for 5v5 last week, I actually couldn’t believe my eyes. Saying that the ow1 playstyle was so bland was criminal, apparently playing zar monkey to farm nano was too boring of an experience for him.
I’ll never forget when OWL first started and the Team Envyus Dallas fuel stacked on stream and got shit on for over an hour straight. No wins
I think one of the biggest consequences of 5v5 was the dumbing down of the community in terms of what good things actually are. Never in my life have i seen so many people just ignore high ground on numbani or Gibraltar. Never in my life have i seen so many healers that literally just play dps and turn the game into tdm. Never in my life have i seen so mang people that just expect a dps to solo a pocketed dps thats going off, especially after the devs removed a lot of skill based one shots. Never in my life have i seen so many people that see you get dove and their first instinct is to shoot and do damage instead of healing to keep the player alive. So few people are able to actually play rein against a good rein and its abysmal watching your rein borderline throw all game because they just dont know basic tank matchups. Its literally just tdm because targetting supports is not a valid strategy anymore due to the amount of immortality abilities. Tanks are designed to be unkillable now outside of the entire team shooting them at once, which doesnt work when the supports are alive. You get a chicken and the egg situation with the tanks and supports so there is no good path to follow that will win you the game. The only thing to kill is the thing that happens to be the one the healers dont look at.
Yeah, supports get shit dove, DPS ignores it, and supports go into battle mode. Welcome to OW. Happened the same in OW1
@BrickArmsWill in ow1 you could literally have a tank who's only job was to help the supports survive being dove. Ow1 felt nowhere near as much of a tdm as ow2 is. I've played both. In ow2 mfers playing support start off in battle mode. There are far too many games that supports that can heal the entire team at once have the same healing as a zen be cause they playing dps.
Saw some other streamers saying the "meta" before Joats was the golden era and that it was better than OW1 oct 2020.

I do think we will get 6v6 faster if the whole community can talk about it more and show the devs how much we want it back , we really gotta come together for this coz its getting so damn ridiculous now

Agreed. I’m fine with role queue but not role lock. Just limits creativity of team comps and flexibility. A good example of this is LoL. Imagine if their role queue had role lock. It would be so dead
