I doubt that I am alone in this feeling, but I am so happy when I see these younger musicians coming on and picking out some killer older music. And I love the variety. Just gives me hope inexplicably. Sometimes I feel the past gets lost with the streaming age of constant new, so I love to see it! Brooke has some seriously great selections.
Seriously. I’m wondering how they even heard of some of this incredible stuff ..they must have rad parents and/or mentors. Leonard Cohen?! Mars Volta?! Yes.
I always get excited when someone pulls out an XTC album. Skylarking is said to be their best but it's further down the line to me. English Settlement and Black Sea. But all of their albums are superb. PS The tall girl keeps talking over the shorter girl.
I agree. English Settlement probably their best. My personal favorite (hard to choose, really, I’m a fan of it all) would be The Big Express. I hear this too that Skylarking is their “best”, but I think that it’s just the most commercially accessible album of theirs.
Agreed (English Settlement is amazing). Todd Rundgren produced Skylarking. He and Andy Partridge did not get along, to the point Partridge referred to the process as one bunker, two Hitlers. lol.
i love the regrettes, and its awesome knowing the inspiration and what forms their band, but honestly most of the time the faye webster cassette tape was staring at me
Oh wow... Lydia with the epic PET SOUNDS and SKYLARKING pulls!!!! (Two of the great albums of all-time... and XTC is the BEST!)... I'm going to recommend three more you should love based on those excellent choices: THE CHILLS "Soft Bomb" (brilliant New Zealand pop), GUIDED BY VOICES "Do The Collapse" (Greatest DIY band in rock history fills out their songs and gets some slick production... and it works!! Great songs on this one), THE ZOMBIES "Odyssey and Oracle" (Right up there with Pet Sounds as a perfect album from beginning to end). THE WONDER STUFF "Eight Legged Groove Machine" (fantastic debut with one great song after another... I now must do a deep dive into The Regrettes!! You all have great taste!! Cheers!
personally I'm not the biggest fan of the "if I want to get into [x] what should I listen to?" approach though. which I +personally+ find kinda odd. e.g. if someone wanted to get into hiphop, the first releases I'd suggest to them certainly wouldn't be records from 20 or 30 years ago. but instead the very best albums of the last 2 or 3 years. and it's not like there aren't, for example, no more great metal bands/records anymore. (in short, I feel my issue with the aforementioned approach is that to me it makes listening to music and discovering new artists and genres seem like doing homework)
I just realised that the so-so indie album that I thought came out 4-5 years ago is actually 12 years old, and is being cited as "a classic" of some musician's "formative years".
I agree, I'm 42 and there is now a new generation of musicians who are influenced by albums that seem to have came out yesterday. Getting old is weird! I love that Tame Impala album though, but calling it a classic is a bit much in my opinion :o)
oh yes ,check out anything by Agustus Pablo and the song butterflies by iris andies and Raggadon, its pop epic with a little reaggae toasting thrown in-for brooke and all the Regrettes,
great guys all and while i don,t agree with all their picks, some i love, King tubby, lenard cohen, beach boys(who dosen't like that)-geeze! Lydia is quite the talker haha and Brookes mullet cool-i dont want to hurt anyones feelings so i won't say who i can,t stand,( hint lead singer is named Bono) lol :) anyway everyone was super nice and i wish them all cheers and good health and fortune today and always,i know this band works hard.✌🌻🦋🇺🇦 NO WAR
If you adore "Love It If We Made It" by The 1975, check out the blue print of the song. "The Downtown Lights" by The Blue Nile. Music doesn't get much better than that :) You're welcome.......
Absolute garbage list. The youth these days all listen to the same hipster commercial trash. Metallica, beach boys, missy elliot. Seriously?? Theyre good but show us something different
thanks for having us!!!
Great Episode from you all.
When are you guys coming to play in Seattle?
I’d have you anytime
Bass Player: “I just feel like no one is listening or paying attention to me.”
Bass Player’s Therapist: “…you should checkout Tame Impala”

Tall girl--let the small one speak!
Happy to see one of my favorite bands on one of my favorite youtube shows 💝
And great picks too!
This was so great! What an eclectic bunch of awesome album choices.
man Lydia just keeps interrupting Janessa to talk about herself like every pick hahah
Lydia talking about Pet Sounds is everything. Also shoutout to the InnerSpeaker pick ;)
Mars Volta?! Holy shit..so much respect for that pick. I saw them on acid with System of a Down in San Francisco in 2005 and it changed my life. 😁
Wow they have such great taste and listen to so much variety. I'm going to check them out.
Seriously. I’m wondering how they even heard of some of this incredible stuff ..they must have rad parents and/or mentors. Leonard Cohen?! Mars Volta?! Yes.
I got the wholebody chills with the Mars Volta pull.
His best friend's therapist introduced him to Tame Impala.
Brooke has impeccable musical taste.
Fuckin A! Kim Gordon, The Mars Volta, Metallica, King Tubby..she knows what’s up
Legit
drew is so cute when he’s talking about u2 🥺 i love u2 also
XTC Skylarking made me love these kids. Great picks!
Love the shout out for Skylarking. My fave of all time!
Yay innerspeaker! Glad someone finally mentioned it

Oh my God - Skylarking!! Couldn't love her more now.
Automatic respect for the Mars Volta love

@@4darin5 The Big Express was the first album of theirs that I got. I also love it.

YEAH, KIM GORDON....SONIC YOUTH!!!!!!!! I'M A FAN.
The last 3 are the best 3 - XTC - Augustus Pablo & Nouvelle Vague !! 👍
Leonard Cohen. Solid.
Really interesting bunch of choices.
i love the regrettes, and its awesome knowing the inspiration and what forms their band, but honestly most of the time the faye webster cassette tape was staring at me

“My bass player at the times therapist introduced him to Tame Impala” such a weird thing to say
The Regrettes need to play an Amoeba concert... SOON!
Omg I have been waiting for this one
Some interesting picks. Nice to see the kids are still digging the classics. Bonus: They introduced this old fart to some new stuff. Win!
I don't know who this guys are but it's amazing one of them chose Mars Volta! Nice pick!
Flea played bass on the studio version of De-Loused in the Comatorium.
Tell me that it's over sitting on the table we stan
The regrettes f***ing rule!!!! Your music is awesome and I have the biggest crush on Lydia 😻
she's a friggin' dream! 😋
I love how Lydia is this 6ft tall Rock Goddess and yet she's so chill and down to earth
I like that these guys are open to a wide variety of genres!
Whats awesome is appreciating even metallica they were very important to me being 12 years old learning nirvana and metallica albums front to back
personally I'm not the biggest fan of the "if I want to get into [x] what should I listen to?" approach though. which I +personally+ find kinda odd.

I still got my bill wymann signed record. From amoeba. It was a good deal. The Thompson twins sold. Lou Reed also
Girl in the pink looks like Bjork imo and I’m living for it.

Very surprised and delighted at some of their picks
Brooke for the win 🏆
Great picks. Nice vibes.
that kim gordon record is so amazing
King Tubby and Augustus Pablo yes. U can start there and go down such a cool rabbit hole of roots reggae and dub music. ❤️ Good picks overall too!
Woohoo, great picks!!
One of my favorite episodes!
I actually saw Nouvelle Vague live a couple of weeks ago, at a festival in Iasi, a city from Romania, and they ARE KILLLING IT LIVE
oh yes ,check out anything by Agustus Pablo and the song butterflies by iris andies and Raggadon, its pop epic with a little reaggae toasting thrown in-for brooke and all the Regrettes,
When Lydia pulled out Pet Sounds I felt so seen! I need to have it on vinyl!!
LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH
I've seen so many of Amoeba's WIMG videos, and I never see anyone with Neutral Milk Hotel. I'm a little shocked.
XTC ……great taste !!!…..Lydia….Oranges & Lemons ?
Great picks all of the regrettes are awesome
glad to see Nouvelle Vague here.. R.I.P. Olivier
Yes 👍 nice picks
Great old school taste, although Tame Imala seems like yesterday. I guess I stayed young only in my heart. Did they keep those records?
What a good looking crew
They've come a rlly rlly long way
D@mn - I miss the Regrettes. THIS was cool to watch - but sad to know that they are no longer together. They were just one song away from BIG.
This selection is acceptable.
Green pants carrying this episode is a vibe.
I mean, she is also the lead singer of their band lol
I love car music 💕
Y'all are adorable. Love the younger generation's ability to mix up pop blah and deep cuts.
Is Lydia super tall or are other band members really short?
kinda both lol
I like old school artists like Billie Eilish. She was a huge influence on me in my formative years.
Satire?
Interesting taste,I must say
Metallica! 🤘🎸🔥
Nice track!
Such great humans. Loving the Mars Volta attention for that Landscape Tantrums LP. A wide array of music captured here. Kudos!
drew grabbin scorpion😈🙏
-Deehan 🦁
-Such Gentleman?:D Well behaved very ambitiously respected people
BESTIES
UTU2TM?
💞💞💞
Damn Kim’s record sounds better than thurston’s?
Jesus, I feel old.
the 1975? missy elliot? love you the regrettes
Didn't know Mark Zuckerberg was also in this band.
great guys all and while i don,t agree with all their picks, some i love, King tubby, lenard cohen, beach boys(who dosen't like that)-geeze! that tall chick is so cute
The guy in this band reminds me a lot of Andrew Garfield. 🤔
the girl in pinks dad testified in the Johnny Depp trial 🤷♀
Formative years. Lol
They lost coolness’s when she pulled out that Brittney Spears CD😂
It feels like Lydia is very authoritarian person because that ginger girl is so scared being with her :)
greatest band of all time
People always choose Pet Sounds to appear hip. Doubt any of them actually listen to it.
Hmmm, does liking only 1 release *(Augustus Pablo / King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown)* of this band’s 14 selections, in total, make me an asshole??? 🤔
For such an interesting sounding band, their bag seemed full of kinda basic stuff
Ppl in the comments like "this isn't a classic, this is only 12 years old 😑" oh honey, school yourself. Study. What makes something a classic. Go
Kim Gordon makes Lou Reed sound like a good singer. 🤣
Who?
did not care for this one
U2? Cmon you’re better that.
Hipsters 🙄
Absolute garbage list. The youth these days all listen to the same hipster commercial trash. Metallica, beach boys, missy elliot. Seriously?? Theyre good but show us something different
what artists do you listen to?
Just because an artist is mainstream or commercial doesn’t mean they suck. Artists blow up for a reason. A lot of obscure artists suck too.
The Regrettes were always class - in their choices.
