I'm a metal guy and bass player... people don't believe me when I say I love Duran Duran and admire John Taylor's bass skills. That's some good music right there. A View to a Kill, best Bond song IMHO.
i watched the "Classic Rock" Documentary on Rio, and even though I hated the band due to sibling rivalry as a kid, I was like, holy fuck, the guy would be worshipped like Steve Harris if he played metal (John Taylor)
Some friends of mine got to open for Duran Duran in Austin... They were starstruck... but, what really blew their minds was that Simon took the time to listen to their music before the show. Love when superstar bands are cool like that.
After I read your comment I thought.. Did they open for them in Austin in November 2014? I can't remember who they were or what they played.. The only thing I remember is I have never seen a band get booed so hard in my life.. They said do you want to hear another and everyone screamed NO and most people just walked out and waited for Duran Duran to start.. Never seen anything like it before in my life and felt so bad for a band
I dont think any one of them has aged well especially nick, no offense just stating the obvious here. he looks a lot older than his age even looks older than my 75 y.o mom. perhaps it's the side effect of tons of make up that nick has been wearing since he was a teen.
main reason imo is people taking one line transcripts and using it against you in court for plagiarism for songs that have only remotely similar parts. these guys are ogs and i doubt people are gonna touch not just because of the status factor but because they already laid down an extensive backcatalog. the trend of abusing copyright for remotely similar songs have skyrocketed in this generation with pop punk bands going as far as suing trap artists for having even a tinge of a similar melody or feel. they use a transcript of an interview early into the career of the artist as evidence. the problem is in the courts and well as other artists i guess straight out abusing sampling, both are linked to a work being transformative which doesnt seem to resonate with anybody when it comes to music. a straight a to b comparison i feel is a pitfall whereas music like literature relies on furthering the tradition and there never being real originality just transformation so you have to take in context genres then subgenres and etc original repurposing which i feel becomes ignored once in court.
Who could believe that the men from Duran Duran has such an exquisite great taste in pop culture, influences, video, clothes, films, music... from every three they chose, I've already got an actual personal fave!!! Well, should have known it just listening to them play music!
As a fellow movie fan, this really endeared me to Nick Rhoades. Fun fact: not only is he the one that owns the name "Duran Duran", but he's also the only founding member to be on every record.
life is just weird sometimes. I was born in 1982 and have been listening to music for as long as I can remember. today i'm almost 39 years old and only last week i discovered duran's first album. I can't stop listening to it. one masterpiece after another.
I was born in 1970 and have been listening since 1975 or thereabouts. Music has explained everything to me even though I know nothing compared to everything I will never know!
One of the things that I love most about them is the fact that they reached their 50s, they are kinda ""old"" but they didnt surrender to the social pressure of dressing "like you're supposed to", or "act your age". I can see/feel that they are confortable and being themselves without giving a shit. I've never seen it, but I'm sure there are people who think "they are not young anymore to act like this", like I saw people talking about Madonna, for example, and that's sad. If you do this, stop repressing people's essence, dude. And if you care about this fuckers, forget it and try to just be you. Look how fucking cool and badass this band is. Be inspired by them.
I've been listening to Duran Duran for nearly 40 years. They still rock, and I still love 'em! Simon might be 61, but he's still a hottie! Hell, I’m 52, so what do I care?! I've been mad for him since I was 13 years old, lol!
people who have true talent stay relevant and fresh, look at people like bowie, up until he died, he was still making different records instead of rehashing the same crap like a lot of bands do when they are out of steam and ideas.
all of them are aging pretty rough to be fair. simon's face is so bloated, droopy and haggard and he gets fatter than ever. he looks more and more like kevin spacey and rick gervais. nick is losing his hair, and got deep frown and wrinkles all over his face, and jowly! he caulking his face with thick make up to hide all those wrinkles on his face . Roger, well..some say he has aged better than the rest but tbh roger's face is also wrinkly like the others so I dont think he age better.
I heard Andy is responding well to a new treatment! Keep those prayers going, guys! He even finished his new solo album! It’d be great to have him back in full-swing.
I love Andy, so SO much! I was so devastated when I heard he was sick...I'm thrilled that he is responding well to the new treatment! No one lives forever, but I hope he will have many more years to be with his loved ones, as well as pursue his first love: MUSIC!🎶🎸 🥰
I loved watching this. Great picks by all members IMO. Nick has ALWAYS had strange taste like that. Love that about him. Funny, I have 2 of 3 films he picked out.
OMG this was wonderful. The guys individually always impress me with their intelligent taste and knowledge of music and films. Some of those choices definitely piqued my interest.
Sometime in the early 90's I heard a radio show interview with Duran Duran. I was always a fan of their music but not so die hard that I knew all about band. They talked a lot about their influences and I was just amazed at the scope of what they liked. So much of it I did not expect. Years later, no different, love their diverse taste in movies and music. So cool that Simon enjoyed Chappie and gets in to Die Antwoord.
Duran Duran was the first band I really got into, and, I'm still enjoying their stuff. My tastes tend to be really all over the place now, from older country, to 80s new wave, to metal, and everything in between and all around. Gotta say I miss the 80's, because we had a lot more to choose from as far as popular music went. Not to mention, the guys all aged amazingly well.
What makes them such great artists is they truly LOVE music and that translates into the amazing work they do. One of the Most UNDERRATED BANDS EVER. Before you start to object...Go listen to"My Antarctica" "Lonely in Your Nightmare" "Cry Baby Cry", Leave a Light On" "Late Bar" Mediterranean" "Palomino", Micheal You've Got A Lot To Answer For", " Universe Alone" , "Chains", These songs cross a lot of decades and are some of my favorite songs of all time.
Yes DD certainaly are!!!!I've got all off there albums there b- sides where just as good they should be in the music hall of fame twenty years ago and they will go into the history books as the longest running band watch this space.love DD they are unique they are more than good looking musicans they have proved that 40plus years and still going strong 2020 brilliant.
John picked up that shitty album, so it wasnt all good... plus Daft Punk is a bit over rated, all they do is steal samples and rework them and people think they are gods. Underworld or Orbital would have been more impressive to me than that EDM crap he picked.
They are soooo ADORABLE!!!!, I never would have thought they are so versed....not just in music but in film as well.... Impressive!!! ;-). XO They were my first crush!!!
That "Naughty Girlfriend, Fiona Kemp" is the one that suggested to Simon that he should try out for this band called Duran Duran. So Fiona, shame on you for stealing Simon's Front Line album but thanks a million for making that suggestion.
Im always looking for new stuff on this channel. But its nice to rediscover bands like Duran Duran that have flown under the radar totally underappreciated. I loved Hungry Like a Wolf when i was a kid and fkn loved Ordinary World and Come Undone in the early 90s. Im lucky to have an old school record store literally right in front of my neighborhood. Im 41 now and i remember going there when i was 15 to buy Metallicas black album and Slipknots debut when i was 23. I moved back here when i got married in 06 and the store is somehow still there. Going shopping there tomorrow and the first thing im buying is a Duran Duran record maybe some Merle Haggard.
@Jimmy W I am straight as well and agree. I think to be a Duran Duran fan as a straight male you have to be creative and comfortable with your own sexuality to say a guy can look good or handsome.
love this series of vieos!!! huge variety of inspiration and tastes!! im a music junkie too ...i used to spend all my hard earned cash mostly on music..vinyl, cassettes n cds....wish i could load up my bag now w musical treasures!! 🤩🤩🤩🥂
I really like Duran Duran's first two albums. Glammy, funky new wave with awesome production. I'm surprised that they were even bigger than they were, but I guess being the biggest rock band in the world for a good year is still pretty solid on the resume.
How fun is this! I'm from Colorado and My first time I got to go to Ameba was last week and I loved it.. John Taylor takes about this place a lot and so I had to check it out when I was in town seeing some Duran Duran shoes and found so much stuff I wanted I had them mail it all home to me so I didn't have to carry it on the plane home.. Great place and great to see the band I love and ask the music and movies they got.. Great video!
I have introduced my children to Duran Duran's music videos in the last year. They love them! We especially enjoy Don't Save A Prayer, Rio, Planet Earth, and quite a few more memorable hits from this very British eighties band who did well in America. Their music can easily be played in any trendy bar today.. though sadly your average kid wouldn't have a clue who this band is, or were. Most music today is manufactured like plastic and churned out from Simon Cowell's factory full of wanabees. These guys are proper musicians, with their own sound, style and great music that is timeless. They have written unique songs, most of the band can play an instrument, and they can all perform and look fabulous to their audience. Duran Duran should have been given far more credit for their music.
I miss these guys. I love them since I was 10yrs old back in the 80s wow still love them. I still have some music from them and still on cd and a couple of vinyl records too 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Love these fellas! Had the opportunity to see them live with my first love Paula Thompson back in 87. We were careless and free. Compton Terrace (venue) was south of Phoenix, no longer there. Funny how time flies, things change. Btw Amoeba...I love these bits and pieces, please keep them coming. (said with British accent) S.W.
For Xmas this year my gorgeous son brought me pop vinyl dolls of each of the Duran Duran members. I was/ am so stoked! 💕🤗💕 Not Only is Nick Rhodes still a honey but we have similar tastes in movies!
Simon does that really well the pronunciation of Die Antwoord 5:23, which is mainly Dutch although they are from Kaapstad, South Africa. I respect that a lot!
I'm a metal guy and bass player... people don't believe me when I say I love Duran Duran and admire John Taylor's bass skills. That's some good music right there. A View to a Kill, best Bond song IMHO.
First two Duran Duran albums are incredible, especially if you are into bass playing.
@@dr.juerdotitsgo5119 That "Rio" bassline...holy fuck!
Tony BP Same here. Love my Metal but Duran Duran are my over all fav band!
i watched the "Classic Rock" Documentary on Rio, and even though I hated the band due to sibling rivalry as a kid, I was like, holy fuck, the guy would be worshipped like Steve Harris if he played metal (John Taylor)
agreed, upon reviewing their first few albums in the past year or two, the first two definitely stand up the most
You can tell that these guys have been good friends for many years. It’s heartwarming...Simon le Bon is hilarious though.
That's what I have always appreciated about Duran Duran...they appreciate other artists...they know their shit.
Roger Taylor seems such a authentic upbeat and positive person
John Taylor is the most under-rated bassist ever. Just incredible.
Lol
that sounds racist ru?
In the world of bass and musicians, he's NEVER underrated!
He's the reason I play bass today
Hardly underrated, well known as the best bassist of his time.
35 years later, these guys are still cool, and relevant.
sean egan. . yeah i agree.
I'm reading your book
35 years later, these guys are still. end it there.
don't you read memos from bc bc?
🥰
Some friends of mine got to open for Duran Duran in Austin... They were starstruck... but, what really blew their minds was that Simon took the time to listen to their music before the show. Love when superstar bands are cool like that.

They said do you want to hear another and everyone screamed NO and most people just walked out and waited for Duran Duran to start.. Simon has enough charisma to account for the entire UK
I think they are still handsome and talented. Handsome is often as handsome does. They seem to be kind, polite and funny. Which I love 😊
These guys have great, eclectic musical tastes, and their music reflects those tastes...it's Why Duran Duran can be relevant 40+ years later.
Nick has always been my favorite, but I gotta say I can't believe how well Roger's aged. Good heavens!!
I dont think any one of them has aged well especially nick, no offense just stating the obvious here. he looks a lot older than his age even looks older than my 75 y.o mom. perhaps it's the side effect of tons of make up that nick has been wearing since he was a teen.
Lol Dark Phoenix, no offense taken! :)
Roger AND John
I love how they're so open about their tastes. Most people would play it safe and pick the classics to seem 'cool'. Respect to them.
Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney and David Bowie aren't considered classics?
main reason imo is people taking one line transcripts and using it against you in court for plagiarism for songs that have only remotely similar parts. these guys are ogs and i doubt people are gonna touch not just because of the status factor but because they already laid down an extensive backcatalog. the trend of abusing copyright for remotely similar songs have skyrocketed in this generation with pop punk bands going as far as suing trap artists for having even a tinge of a similar melody or feel. they use a transcript of an interview early into the career of the artist as evidence. the problem is in the courts and well as other artists i guess straight out abusing sampling, both are linked to a work being transformative which doesnt seem to resonate with anybody when it comes to music. a straight a to b comparison i feel is a pitfall whereas music like literature relies on furthering the tradition and there never being real originality just transformation so you have to take in context genres then subgenres and etc original repurposing which i feel becomes ignored once in court.
Why do I feel like Simon would be cooler to hang out with today then back in the 80s? What a goof! Amazing!
Duran Duran has been for over 30 years one of my favorite bands. Their music is magnificent and timeless. A World class band.
I'll agree that Duran Duran's rhythm section with John and Roger Taylor is the best in rock music!!!
Who could believe that the men from Duran Duran has such an exquisite great taste in pop culture, influences, video, clothes, films, music... from every three they chose, I've already got an actual personal fave!!!

Roger Taylor, drummer in my 4th favorite band (Duran Duran), choosing a record of my all time #1 favorite band (Led Zeppelin). Fucking AWESOME!!!!
Roger just seems like such a sweetheart, I want to give him a hug whenever I see him :)
Simon's my favourite though
Mine too first seen Simon in 1980 thought he was the most handsome man on earth and still is gorgeous on 2020.
Simon’s Die Antwoord impression made my morning. “I rrub ma deek on espensive shut” 😂
they disgusting and a disgrace to South Africa
