    You don’t have to remove anything in the engine bay just have to be good at working in areas you can’t really see. The perfect size extension socket and swivel is all you need. Same with the MHD engine bay flex fuel kit goes right back there as well did it all by feel. The way it’s designed you can pull the filter out without any oil dripping from it which is a plus. Start with loosening the filter and draining the oil after it’s done draining you should be good to go. If you are pushing the car hard I’d recommend 0w40 or 5w40 as well just depends on your power level and time of year winter or summer I’m at around 800 crank hp.

    This was very helpful. We have a 2021 x3m-comp that has a different underbelly cover. Otherwisethe same process. FCP Pro has kits for sale every now and again.

    Dont have to remove the whole air filter housing at all, just the little clip with wires that you said was not connected by the previous user, way too much work for nothing.

      What the hell is that ceratec glue your putting in there, bmw would never recommend that.
      I use amsoil 0w30, amsoil invented synthetic oil, great great stuff.

      Not necessary at all, to remove the whole damn air intake housing with cross brace. Just the small electric cable with 2 clips then insert the socket with extension and pivot point on socket end, very easy to do.....

      @@dustinberg1134wouldn't say easy....just did it that was last night and unless you got small hands it's very easy to drop tools and for it to slip off. No idea why bmw decided this was a good place for a oil filter. Harder to change the oil on this vs exotics lol

  • @cwx8
    @cwx8 6 місяців тому +1

    Is this seriously the process? What on earth is BMW doing?! The S55 was a peach to change the oil and air filters. I can't believe how off the deep end they went with filter access.

    • @bavhaustv9795
      @bavhaustv9795  6 місяців тому

      Unfortunately yeah. Even with the b58/b46 the filter housing was changed to a plastic unit and buried in the back of the engine. I’m sure from an engineering standpoint it’s located there for a good reason but it is a bit tedious to get to on some cars. The s58 is more difficult due to the plenum for sure. But after you do it a couple times it doesn’t take long at all. -Mike

      @@bavhaustv9795 Hi Mike. If you could post links to both the Mac / Snap-On as well as the equivalents that would be awesome. The X3 M I work on often deserves the best. So a BMW specific funnel would be good. Thank you man! :)

      There’s some evidence to support it being a useful additive

    • @genderlessyoutubefanperson
      @genderlessyoutubefanperson 4 місяці тому

      @@bavhaustv9795 Hope you are not under warranty. I have seen my fair share of engines ruined by LM additives. Also, If an additive not specified in the engine oil is detected, BMW voids the engine warranty.

    • @genderlessyoutubefanperson

      Best advice ever. Stay clear of additives.

    • @bavhaustv9795
      @bavhaustv9795  4 місяці тому

      @@genderlessyoutubefanperson the additive that’s known to ruin engines is typically the engine flush. Anti-friction additives are included in tons of oils. The mos2 anti-friction is literally the additive in the Molygen and even though it’s detectable with testing it meets BMW standards and does not void warranties at all. As long as it meets standards it’s approved to use. This is industry standard. Bmw can’t go voiding warranties over oil composition. If it was monopolized that way they’d shake hands with a single company and void warranty on any car that used any other oil. -Mike
