Loads of space for my granddaughters and the dogs. I have the 2.4litre lx diesel 2012. Only got 64k on the clock.. Only problem I have is because its constant 4wd I tend to go through tyres quite a lot. But other than that it's very easy on my wallet. Keep em comming Scotty.

I had a Toyota RAV4 and I loved it. It never had any mechanical issue. I’ve recently decided to replace my car by another RAV4 2019. When I did the test drive I thought that the engine was so loud tbat would probably give me headache during long trips. Additionally the car had this recall pending which seemed pretty serious. So I drove the CRV and I thought it was a better drive, much quieter drive.

The CR-V was on my list back in 2012 when I was looking for a pre-2006 cheap reliable AWD vehicle. After comparing the CR-V to others of the time, I went with a late model 2004 RAV4 4wd 5sp with the updated 2.0vvti engine (German model). It out performed the CRV and had better handling than the Honda CR-V of that year. Also the RAV4 (4.1 & 4.2) was waaay better with it's AWD performance than the Honda's back then. Still driving it today with 210tkm on it so far. Does great in Austria and the German Alp's in winter too.

We were going to get the CR-V. I love its quirky but conservative looks, how practical it is, how non-taxi like the car was and how smooth it was compared to the raspy sounding Rav4. The ONLY reason I didn't land up getting the CR-V was because at the time (2016), the CR-V was having a major vibration issue with the CVT transmission that was causing the car to vibrate when in drive at a stop. I thought it was no big deal until we rented a 2015 Zipcar CR-V and we experienced first hand the very same issue. And wasn't a small vibration. It was even noticed by my wife in the passenger seat. So just to play it safe, we went with the Rav4. Though I will say, as taxi-like the Rav4 is, I am at 40K miles and not even a single issue with it.

Hi Scotty. I have bought both the Honda 2.0 Auto and the 2.4 Auto secondhand, that both juddered only under very light acceleration, and only just before changing into 3rd gear. But the problem was 100% ELIMINATED by replacing the Automatic Transmission Fluid. Both cars. It's easy to do. They both run like a dream now. No juddering, no attention to torque converter required. I intend to now replace the ATF at the same time as the engine oil change, instead of relying on the manual's relatively infrequent ATF service schedule.

I bought a used 2012 CR-V last November with 94k miles on it. I have almost 111k miles on it now and it's been a great vehicle so far, drives like it's brand new! Mine is an EX-L trim so it has leather and a lot of options and the previous owners definitely took care of it. I can see why people like these cars, I took mine on a roadtrip in late June and it did great! Good car for around town too, it feels a little slow on the highway until you get the engine into the higher rpms when making a pass but around town it's actually really peppy.

With the crappy tires installed from the factory I say it did remarkably well. Would I buy one? No, I actually like the Highlander a little better, more room and a V6 which Toyota dropped from the Rav4 a few years ago, but the Highlander does great as well and even more comfortable being a larger car. If I were in the market for a new car I'd be in a Highlander.

It really depends on which exact models you compare too. Toyota made v6 Rav4s from 2006-2012 that were genuinely fast and would definitely outrun the CR-Vs. Toyota also now makes hybrid Rav4s that get awesome gas mileage. The Rav4s tend to be better off-road/in less than ideal driving conditions, and the full size spare tire on the older ones is a big plus for me, and the fact that it's on the rear door opens up more space under the floor boards. The Rav4 was originally intended for active, young people that wanted something more practical for daily driving than a truck that would also fit more stuff and be better off road than a typical sedan/hatch. To me the CR-V was intended more for people that wanted a car that sat up higher, had better visibility, had the cool styling of an SUV, and could fit lots of cargo

Hey Scotty, I love your videos and would love to see some on old Dodge trucks. I just bought a 1989 D150 5.2 liter 318 automatic, and want to rebuild it myself. I'm not a mechanic, and need all the help I can get. Thanks bud.

Only 2012 CR-Vs, or does this apply for 2012-now models?

CRV: CVT transmission, turbo, and oil dilution. RAV4 much more reliable long term.

I'll take a Crv over a Rav 4 any day. I've had mine for over 7 years and zero problems.

I have the 3rd generation 2009. Bought it new and it’s a wonderful reliable ride. The longer you keep a Honda if well maintained and paid off, it will reward you with reliability. I am always sad to say goodbye to my Honda’s because they never let me down. Learn how to do your brakes, fluid changes, tire rotations yourself too and bond with it😎. The only thing that bugs me is that the catalytic cover rusts away earlier than expected, and you only have to use a long hose clamp to keep it closed.
