I have had the same reliable service from my 2012 Honda CRV with no problems. I believe it is critical to change the engine oil at 4000 to 5000 miles, change the 5 speed automatic transmission fluid every 30,000 miles to achieve reliability and long life from these components.

I have a 2016 CR-V EX and had a short that kept draining my battery. Dealer wanted too much to 'find' it so I took it to a local shop who spent over a day trying to find it. Finally found it was in the harness in the back tailgate. Dealer had it instock which meant they most likely knew about the problem. So don't make it a habit to slam the tailgate or you might create a problem.

I bought a 2014 new. Started getting that rattle at 186k miles. It was worth $1400 to have it fixed. Best car I have ever had. Never once actually broke down. Just tires, breaks, ball joints, battery. That’s all I’ve had to do to it. Going on 6 years without a car payment. Best car ever

The VTC actuator is not a timing chain issue. It is an oil consumption issue. At around 70,000 miles these engines will burn oil at around 2 quarts every 3,000 miles. This causes the lack of lubrication of the timing chain. Check your engine oil frequently; once a week minimum.

I’ve owed 3/ 4th gen CRV’s. The only major repair was a replacement of the starter around 60k mikes. Otherwise my 2016 Touring has been a great car. I find if I run 93 octane gas once every couple months it smooths out the idling.

2012 Japanese CRV with RM engine. I have or have had the following:
    1) vibration at idle especially when cold due to low idle rpm
    2) Pulley belt tensioner needs replacement every year or other year (with oem part)
    3) suspension bushing doesn’t last long
    4) It’s best to change transmission oil filter with every other oil change. This helps with the shifts.
    5) the rear seats locks breaks easily and expensive to replace.
    6) The original mic for hands free calls has a buzzing sound and needs replacement.
    Has been okays thus far.
    7) engine mounts burst easily (I guess due to the excessive vibrations)

common issue as well, leaky trunk. water coming in from outside into the spare tire wheel well(trunk). If the trunk drain plug is not open for it to drain out, there is potential to form a pool of water in the spare tire area. when i recently purchased my used , 2012 honda crv ex , the spare tire drain plug was sealed shut and a pool of water was back there, causing significant rust damage to both the rim of the spare tire , as well as the metal trunk framing. the rust was not noticeable from underneath the car, as there is a large plastic cover that shields the tire area and drain plug. i still have not located the origin of the leak but it seems to be coming through on both sides of the trunk, from the weld lines, in the corners of the spare tire wheel well..
make sure to check the trunk for rust :)

We bought a 2002 CR V and it’s been good. Most problems have occurred due to poor driving skills. It’s a 5 speed manual so just changed the oil recently but working fine. The clutch binds slightly but the hydraulic fluid can be changed to fix this. Probably the most rugged and tough car we have ever owned. Now at 400,000 km and running well. Just needs some TLC.

We bought our 2013 CRV new and itwill be 10 years old in March. It has just shy of 84000 miles. I have owned Hondas since 1979, e.g. Civics, Accords, Ridgeline. We have had to have the heater core flushed out due to apparent slag from their casting process; $800+, transmission jutter at speeds between 25 to 30 mph caused by slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear which requires us now to have transmission fluid changed out every 30,000 miles and an additive, "instant shudder" added to increase "lubricity", had to have an alignment camber kit replaced in rear, almost $500..this was done by a trusted alignment shop. They said this is a common problem with CRV. I change my own oil, use Honda filter at 50% oil usage; 3800 - 4500 miles. I replaced our truck with a 2022 Mazda CX5. Didn't even consider a Honda nor will we when we replace the CRV in the future. My wife drove the CRV but not anymore..we both love the CX5.

    i have a 4th gen CRV
specifically the 5 speed version 2012 before the 15' face lift w the cvt
when u try to drive efficiently n not waste gas too much the transmission starts shaking a lil bit until u either press a lil harder on the gas or let it go and press it again
it's rlly good on gas i get 400+ miles on a full tank
    23.8 mpg
i've had it since 189k miles
    it's now at 196k
since then i've changed my oil 3 times as to make it last to 350k miles +
    i definitely recommend the car
it's really quick for the power it has (185hp)
u take eco mode off n the a/c off and it FLIES.
CVT might be a lil faster off the line if u put that thing in sport mode tho 😮‍💨

I have a 2016 CRV Touring it has been great no problems. Regular oil changes and it seems to be sensitive to a slightly dirty air filter, it will run a little rough at an idle. Change the filter and it’s back to running great again. The only thing I noticed right after buying it new, the exhaust pipe ware it goes over the rear axel it looks like they took a hammer to it to make the bend. This can’t help the gas millage, so I took it in to the dealership and to my surprise all of them were like that. I told them I thought I would replace the exhaust tube from the muffler back, but they told me that would void the warranty. Not sure if that was true or not, I didn’t want to take the chance so I have lived with it till now. It just went out of warranty so I would like to change that out. Has anyone else noticed this or fixed it? I would think the restriction would not help the gas milage.

I got this car, really low mileage for now, barely 40,000 and in 2 years it will be a decade old... in all that time, I managed to change the transmission and 4wd differential oil for about 3 to 4 times i forgot... since my car is low mileage, most of the maintenance I do it by time instead...
my oil changes used to be every 6 months with the honda semi synthetic oil... changed to mobil 1 advanced fulll synthetic and 15,000 miles purolator filter, now i do the change once per year instead...
i guess that starting this year, i will change trans and differential oil every 3 to 4 years maximum, flush the brake fluid in about the same time too. the coolant i dont know if i should wait a little bit longer, mine hasnt been changed yet.
the car runs perfect i guess, but like you said in the video, it has a bit rough shifts from 1 to 2, sometimes to 3 , but it isnt that bad honestly, i am intending to keep this car for 10 more years, its a great car.

Look at your front half shafts, had this problem on a gen 2. Replaced and was smooth as silk. Not cheap if done at dealer though

So the 3rd Gen should be a quite a ride and reliable. Also the 3rd Gen AWD works better then 4th Gen.

What happens when people do not maintain their vehicles?
When someone buys a car off of the lot, the dealer does not walk you through every step to maintain the vehicle. Why? So the owner can take it back to the dealer and get it fixed at a crazy price. Because of that, majority people do not know how to maintain their cars.

Someone who works on and builds cars you should know already that certain cars are more prone to certain issues, especially if those maintenance intervals were not met. Guess what? Most cars do not come with a full history report of repairs. Someone looking to buy this car should definitely look over all the POTENTIAL issues it may have. What am I missing?
