Great, thanks for the reply, I am practicing and I go no further than 10mts for now. keep doing the good stuff, we enjoy it ! hi from Puerto Vallarta !
Thanks Colin. I would love to go to Lanyu. However booking the tickets, hotel, boat or flight is not easy.. so this has always stopped me. But I hope one day I can go.
So cool~~especially the comparison of your relaxation with freediving and other scuba diver with waving arms and legs (some newbies maybe). You should try the freedive in Orchid island (Lanyu), my favourite spot in Taiwan!!
So reckless. Touching corals, crashing into bottom, scubas resting on reefs and feeding fish. Basically everyone behaves like pest. That is why diving sites disappear one by one.
lEIG they were definitely damaging the coral. At least the freediver in this video avoided touching unless necessary and when he did, it was on sand or rock with a pointed finger.
I certainly wish more people understood this. It pains me to watch, and it's not that difficult to stop doing. Control bouyancy better, and don't interact with anything aside from taking pictures.
I was thinking the same thing. This is why you want to stay clear of the most well known scuba sites, they get all the part-time lazy, fat, stupid tourist divers who can't even control their buoyancy and who think coral is there to stand on....
scubas are more often rich/spoiled tourists than freedivers who develop a natural respect for nature's fragility , it's the fault of dive shops putting $$$ > safety
Hey man thanks. I find the dive spots mainly just by talking with others on facebook. Looking at other peoples pics, etc. Being friends with more scuba divers. I have 2 co-workers who dive regularly, and they recommend a lot to me. Places like Yonaguni i found from using Google earth, and randomly stumbled across it.
Hey man, u do really great stuff here. Great videos, amazing views and also super tutorial videos on how to hold the breath longer. I always loved the camera views of swimming divers (freedivers). I'm a really good swimmer and I love water, but I have no diving license yet. When I see your videos, I'm very happy for u man. I have to do the freediving course, because I can see what i miss :)
nice video, nice music. thx to your vids i started training by myself. Can hold breath for 3 min dry static thanks to your tips (one week of practice), can swin holding breath for 40 seconds dolphin kick with fins in shallow water (2m depth moving horizontally). Is that a good start or below average? Nice music though, which song tried sound hound without success?
Great video again, its so clear. Did you get lucky or did research before heading out that day to get such a clear day. . hoping your next dive will be here in Maldives
Awesome video as always man! I just bought the mask and snorkle you use after watching the videos of them! cant wait to test them out! Keep postning the fab videos! (y)
You've had terrible luck? I live in Florida USA and it has rained 5 days a week, and the best VIS I've seen in the passed 3 months was a couple meters :( I guess I need to find a new diving spot haha.
Yeah man, i hear you. i dont actually live near any (good) dive site. I need to fly overseas or domestically every time I want to dive. So basically im laying down around $1000-$1500 for every dive and the 2 of my trips have been wrecked by terrible viz, or high waves. Anyway, fingers crossed that both of us will get some better luck and some good viz next time.
Yoga can really help. If I had access to a yoga training and to deep water, its definitly something I would try. Right now I do zero freediving training, absolutely nothing - so I easily get injured at depth.
I guess it would be like comparing Skiing to snowboarding, BMX to skateboarding, and surfing to bodyboarding. Freediving is more a a sport and a challange. Scuba offers longer bottom time to study the marine world closely. Since im just having fun, freediving is great. But if I wanted to study some deep, interesting part of the ocean, scuba is better.
I'm working full time in a swiss engineering company in Taipei. I just save some cash, then fly out to the neighboring countries for long weekend. It is requiring some compromises with my bosses, but its all ok. Thinking of heading to philippines in Nov or early december for another video. I make these trips by myself, I just see what flights are cheap, then go. Sometimes if i'm lucky somebody will join... but not always. Struggling find somebody for the next philippines trip.
What fins you use and which one would you receommend for a starter? I'm 1,83 mts tall. Your videos are awesome and very inspiring, thank you for sharing them with the world!
+Pablo Toledo He is useing Carbon fiber fin witch are known to be expensive (300$ and more). For a beginer look for some cheaper ones out of PU or any plasic. But just ask your lokal dive shop.
OK sounds good. I have probably seen too many James Bond movies! There was one where he is chased into the ocean with his car and he stays underwater by sucking air out of the stem on his tire! Anyway I plan to move to Thailand soon and try freediving so I hope to see you out there or under there. Thanks for your videos.
Still watching in 2024 , absolutely awesome
miss you come back
Still the best Big Mushroom vid to this date. RIP Big Mushroom.
I think I have some old video of it never released... I guess i better edit it and put it up.
What happened
Man where did this guy go? Miss his content.
when you dive in a croud with oxygen, you realize that you are diving like a pro.
Awesome visibility, Thanks so much for sharing this great place!!
the moment you almost bumped into the scuba diver is priceless, great video as usual.
One of your BEST! Fantastic way to spend your birthday!! And its busy down there...
Great, thanks for the reply, I am practicing and I go no further than 10mts for now. keep doing the good stuff, we enjoy it ! hi from Puerto Vallarta !
Right on! Always wonderful videos. Thanks for sharing your passion.
bit late, but i just found out the mushroom was toppled over by a typhoon. so sad. great video though! piece of history!
Hey Adricol0 - yes I have. Besides the level 1 scuba course, I have done 1 night dive on scuba before.
Thanks Colin. I would love to go to Lanyu. However booking the tickets, hotel, boat or flight is not easy.. so this has always stopped me. But I hope one day I can go.
Dude. I just have to say, your videos are very well made. You do a really good job!
glad i got to see the mushroom through your video~:)
That's an awesome coral formation! Love your videos!
how long did you trained to hold you're breath for that long?
Right on Dean another Banger video well done.
Beautiful video Dean. You're making a very cold canadian extremely jealous and anxious to be diving again in a few months.
So cool~~especially the comparison of your relaxation with freediving and other scuba diver with waving arms and legs (some newbies maybe).

my thoughts exactly :'(

I've never seen such good visibility
Wow love the Vedic
You've had terrible luck? I live in Florida USA and it has rained 5 days a week, and the best VIS I've seen in the passed 3 months was a couple meters :( I guess I need to find a new diving spot haha.
Thanks Dude. Got completely lucky! For once! Because I've had TERRIBLE luck this whole year.
Great video. Out of interest would you still need a buddy for this dive as there are tons of scuba divers there?
Happy birthday
Very cool video. I'm a scuba diver and a freediver so I appreciate both, but damn the scuba dudes looked so slow and clumsy next to the freediver.
Ok, thanks man! Even thank you for answering my question, cause many youtuber don´t do that! Means a lot to me! ;D
Cool stuff!, Quick question, do you use weights? I never see in your videos, this is bc your body buoyancy ? or something else ? Thanks
this is amazing!!!!!!!!
This is awesome! Amazing how nature can form such beautiful designs :D
Another great video Dean! Keep up the good work, you should get paid for this :)
diving like a boss, everyone else is using a tank
What the pristine water!
Why do you never "say" ok to the divers who say to you? Why?
hes like one of these harley drivers that never greet back hahahhaha
Yes, some of his videos anoy me just because of this, unlike this video for that reason.
When he dont booyah back (sorry i had to)
man, your fins are awesome.
Great video Dean!
Amazingly beautiful!
Whaou ! I love, but i have just a question, you never dive with oxygen cylinder ? ?
standard hero 2 footage. Just clear water, and direct overhead sun.
Were you the only freediver on site?:) nice video. How long does it take you to get here from the place you live?
Still watching in 2022, absolutely awesome

What is the name of the track in the video? :)
you are best freediver
Man i want to go and dive now.
Yoga can really help. If I had access to a yoga training and to deep water, its definitly something I would try. Right now I do zero freediving training, absolutely nothing - so I easily get injured at depth.
you are the best ! i like apnea too, i perform this fantastic sport in sardinia !!! come in sardinia to make a fantastic video !!!

Hi!
Is it soft or medium fins? They are so flexible.
Sick vid!
well done dean
Very nice! :-)
awesome !!!!
Do you use 'Aqualung/Technisub Sphera' mask?
Great job keep going :P
What is your average breath hold on this dive?
do you always dive alone?
I try to avoid it.
rotting christ
So many bubblers! Good stuff though
Pretty cool!
It would be neat if you could catch a breath from one of the divers so you could stay down longer!
OK
sounds good. I have probably seen too many James Bond movies!

Thanks for your videos.
***** Does free diver get brain damage in a long term? Since they are holding 3min+ breath and they repeated it several times.
awsome!
Just curious what would you say your average bottom time is?
