I was a little homesick and I came across this video, it reminded me of the times my family and I went there! I honestly love your channel and how relaxing your videos are. Keep up the good work ;)
Hi. Thanks so much for this video. I lived in Saipan for a few years as a child and I always wondered what the grotto looked like under the surface and of where the opening to the outside was. I have a lot of fond memories of the grotto and of all of Saipan. Miss it a lot. My Dad was a diver, but I just did snorkeling. That was amazing in itself.
I wouldn't advise anyone to jump back under after such a long swim through, it seemed that you nearly panicked there at the end. The opensea seemed pretty tame to me as well, probably worth waiting a few minutes to recover away from the rocks.. That being said I am a bedroom watcher, so it's all about perspective from the camera. Epic epic video, I would do almost anything to hit this spot up.. Amazing.. 50-100m vis is only stuff I can see on youtube at the moment. Thank you for sharing.
***** Ahh Ok difficult to tell that. Fair enough then.. Fantastic footage anyway. You have probably been asked a shite tonne about your dive watch as well. It flashes and beeps at certain predetermined depths, which is probably very handy for your videos and editing. Though would be handy for me too. What are you currently wearing? Keep the great videos up, I have been checking your channel out for a few years now and thoroughly enjoying it. Giving me some good dive spots to hit up later.
Stunning video. Well done. Reminds me of a sinkhole I've just had the privilage of scuba diving recently with visibility pretty much 50 metres +. This kind of stuff is why I explore. I think the clearest water I've ever seen video of though was in the IMAX production 'Antarctica' when they dive inside a moving glacier. Check it out. Visibility perhaps 300 metres plus. Amazing!
You have a great eye when it comes to angling the camera and keeping yourself in the shot! Such beautiful diving there! You really have something going for you...
It's a long swim around to Bird Island if you lose track of where you went out of the Grotto. I used to freedive and dive at the Grotto way back in the '90's.
Thanks Nick. Suggest you stay inside, unless you are 100% the ocean is completely flat outside, if there is any wave action it will be hell. See the video description.
Great video, I enjoyed watching. Hope you're diving with a buddy, though with your "swim outside" attempt, it certainly doesn't seem like you are. Very dangerous! ATB. -JP
Absolutely awesome.... I wold try to get in the open ocean too. To hard to resist... Think first and breath up 10 times before doing it.... Congrats to the video....
***** True..well, it wasn't a rainy season when you here. But the grotto is mysteriously bipolar with its water, but it's great that the time you were here it wasn't so rough! and yeah, gets scary. And live here? that would be cool if you do! Much more other places to see and it's nice to live here according to other Caucasians and races from different places who live here...they really love it.
Awesome man, my wish one day to be able to breath hold like you and other freedivers capable of diving approx up to 40metres and hold breath for minutes on end. Another dream is to able to hang around with the scubas and watch their surprised expressions as you cruise along
hey I love all of your videos I am new to free diving so far the longest I have been under is 1:20 and I was wondering if there is anything that I would need to know from a beginners prospective. thanks .
I am sorry to bother you again but would leader fins be good fins for a beginner like me and have you done any dives in the keys and would you consider doing Spiegel grove for a video?
Great place and cool video + skills! As I do some cave freediving lately, take care to always put a hand above your head when you go up. I know it might feel silly if you are sure the roof of the cave is high etc, but it really will save your head and possibly your life one day (I still remember that other video where you bumped your head into a little boat). Cave diving is a whole different game from regular freediving (although I imagine you having shipwreck experience you feel more comfortable with it)
+Michael DK Thanks Micheal, considering I have 1 hand up holding the camera/selfie stick - do you think i will look like superman holding both my hands up while ascending? PS: Going back to this dive next month
Hey ! I think you actually will, especially since with the mask and firm jaw you already reminded me of a superhero of sorts :D Looking forward to see your new video, it's an amazing place. I'm an underwater art photographer who also likes to work with experienced freedivers, would be amazing to shoot together there. I have something similar near here but scaled down 10x, and very unreliable water conditions (coffee to 7up basically). Too bad you live so far away, I'd enjoy showing you all the awesome freediving spots around here and shoot some nice photos of you in the meantime.
+Freediver HD I live in Cartagena, South Eastern Spain. I invite you to stay for free at my place, private big room in modern apartment ! people who share my love for the sea are always welcome. We have wrecks, massive freshwater caves with warm water, white sandy beaches and steep rocky slopes and underwater arcs, grottos and tunnels all within 30 mins of where I live . Check my channel for a vid of the cave, and Instagram 'suahuatica' for photos of the places here!
Hey! Awesome videos! Keep it up! I just started freediving and i was wondering if you mabye could post some freediving-tips videos, cause you are friggin good at it
Hey freediver hd mate your vids are brilliant and extremely helpful but when I go to equalise underwater instead of trying to equalise by blowing through my nose I close my mouth and swallow and only use the nose equalisation method when I'm trying to get water out of my mask is this normal thanks in advanced
do you use convex lens fish eye for film underwater or normal lens? thank you very much. help me!! what you think about fish eyes lens for underwater movie?
just wanted to know how do you get round the pressure of the water because when i try i really feel the pressure and i cant go down very deep because of the pain any suggestions?????? would be much appreciated
wow.. what a place.. did my first freediving for the year here in sweden in a wreck and hmm dont laugh haha we have like 2-3 meters sight haha sucks soooo bad.. in this video are u using the Canon Powershot D30 Underwater Camera that u reviewed in the previous video?
Hello! I have been watching your videos and will be going free diving this summer. I have a good diving mask but I do not have free diving fins, I have scuba fins. Do you think it will be worth it to buy a pair of imersion e:green fins?
I notice you sometimes don't use your hands at all during the duck dive! When I do this I get stuck at the surface flapping my legs... Its also hard diving with the monopod in hand, now I just put the GoPro on my head.
Где я слышал эту музыку?! Начиная со 2 минуты. Было же что то похожее, раньше крутили на радио 2000. Кто нибудь знает, поделитесь информацией. Спасибо!
I sent this video to my freediving club colleagues in Frankfurt. We plan a cave dive in one of the nearby Lakes with great visibility (not as nice as this video of course). Welcome to visit us anytime. Cheers.
Was freediving there just 5 days before you while on my commercial tour of the Pacific. Awesome footage of the passage to the ocean, keep up the great videos. Did you get to check out the shipwreck in between Saipan and Managaha Island?
***** I got some decent footage of the ship. Fun dive, but you're right, it would have been a much worse dive with bad visibility. I got to see the tanks too, cool photo op, but definitely way too shallow. Stoked to visit more of the spots you've been to, especially the tanker and everything.
***** The ship I was on had a small Whaler that took us to and from Managaha when we got time off work. Its a long video but I've got all the Saipan footage on my Cruise video. Hoping to get better with the GoPro with more practice. That looks awesome, would love to go to Micronesia soon. I saw a couple of those Japanese Zeros in Saipan as well, such a cool dive
You have balls of absolute STEEL going for the ocean. I had a little look when I was free diving there and I almost shit my pants. A guy died doing exactly this, never found this way back inside and got bashed against the rocks.
You know they say you need a red lense once you dive lower than 10 m because otherwise the videos have no bright colors because of missing red tones. Do you ever use red lenses, and if yes when?I Also i was wondering what this video would look like if you would have used a red lense on your camera. But somehow the blue-ish atmosphere in the Grotto, which i think is caused by not using red lense looks so sureal and cool, it might even make the difference in this video and is the reason that it is my most favorite video of you Dean. Keep on!
Freediver HD Just as I thought. I have no problems in submerging too without wetsuit. I guess it depends on one's body (and much on minimal amount of fat), Thanks for answers!
Question for you experienced divers, how the hell do you float or become buoyant in the water with the fins? xD I just bought a pair of fins and not really proficient at using them. Normally to tread water, I would just kick my feet in a breaststroke manner.
+Patrick Rummler Visibility in this particular dive site will always be good. This site is lucky in that it has a lot of clear water direct from the deep ocean, so the possibility of having bad visibility is very very low.
Hey Dean! Ive got a question for you, can I train to hold my breath while hyperventilating before if im not in the water, just training ? I NEVER do this while diving, but I was just thinking if it helps :P I mean I force my body to hold my breath longer and that should help ? Thanks in advance!
Great colors, great angles, this video is just grade A awesomeness!
Cave's are great to explore on land but under water it's even a better experience.
One of my favorite videos! Thank you
Oh wow I would never be brave enough to do this so I'm ecstatic there are people like u who do so I can see these gorgeous vids!!
+Brandy Reeves Thank you for all the support!
+Freediver HD man it is really cool to see where I used to live I miss Saipan😭
Wow so amazing! I held my breath watching this most of the time. literally took my breath away!
I think I just held my breath while watching this. Cool video man!
Dude, this is amazing! Wish I could hold my breath like that! Great video.
Always cool to see diving videos of back home. Your dives are always calm and daring. Made me want to train to hold my breath longer than usual.
Great diving one more time, amazing place and recording, seems to be so easy when we are watching your videos.
I was a little homesick and I came across this video, it reminded me of the times my family and I went there! I honestly love your channel and how relaxing your videos are. Keep up the good work ;)
No, but I was born and raised there
Guam is pretty nice! But it depends on where you're planning on going. There have been recorded deaths because of rough waters...

Thanks for the incredible footage, I'm hoping that the Grotto will open up again soon so I can see it myself!

Every time you upload a video I envy you. What an amazing place. And once again thanks for the awesome video. :-)
It's a long swim around to Bird Island if you lose track of where you went out of the Grotto. I used to freedive and dive at the Grotto way back in the '90's.
Amazing video!! I live on saipan and I've free dove at grotto a lot but I have never went outside any of the caves!

Absolutely stunning! Love it! Now I want to go.
awesome~ i have been followed you channel for long time~ you inspired me to learn freediving ~!!
Wow, the water in grotto isn't usually as calm as this! You're lucky to have gone in that time. Hope you enjoyed your visit on our tiny island ! :)

You are seriously amazing mate. Great video.

could you dive the marianas trench.. its just 20 miles straight out the 3 exits from the grotto lol.. thatll really test a person.
hey I love all of your videos I am new to free diving so far the longest I have been under is 1:20 and I was wondering if there is anything that I would need to know from a beginners prospective. thanks .
thank you for the tips and cant wait for your next video!!!

you should definitely go to Guam, it's nice here. A lot of good diving spots 😁

I notice you sometimes don't use your hands at all during the duck dive! When I do this I get stuck at the surface flapping my legs... Its also hard diving with the monopod in hand, now I just put the GoPro on my head.
wow amazing vis! is it always as clear as this?
ps this has reminded me why i must subscribe...
Yes and all of our beach is the same
Great video but one thing.. look at 01:58 - How did he jump from 10 to 15 m. that quick lol!? it is not accurate..
Well, I believe he reads the profiles in his dive computer... So, maybe the labels aren't perfect...

what are your technical technics to do very long underwater. when you're diving to the surface you are holding your hands on your nose?
He's holding his nise because of pressure, I think.
You are brave! Now I don't have to go down to the grotto to see how it looks, since I don't dive anyway. HOw long can you hold your breath?
Amazing video and breath skills!

How do you feel holding your breath that long. My longest is 39 seconds
thanks man!!! what you think about convex lens underwater?? please help me
Dude, you was diving in a terrifying paradise, if you know what I mean, hehe. Btw, great images.
hi what light uses?
how long can u hold youre breath?
You have balls of absolute STEEL going for the ocean. I had a little look when I was free diving there and I almost shit my pants. A guy died doing exactly this, never found this way back inside and got bashed against the rocks.
Where is your freediving buddy? I didn't see anyone else.
You can see her holding the torch when I swim back in at the end.
What's the theme ?
I grew up in Saipan and love this place. Nicely done! What camera setup are you using to film? GoPro on a extended pole mount?
I am using GoPro Hero 4 now. but this video was done with a Hero 3+. Lastest video is just uploaded, and its also in Saipan!

how deep do you have to dive, without a weight belt, to achieve free fall or to stay on the sea bed.
its meters isnt it
Is there any freediving school or instructor?

hey I was wondering what mask, and camera, and camera pole you used? I would love to know
+Milan Mc aqualung sphera mask, GoPro 3+, pole is a modified hiking crutch.
Haha thanks:)
what lampe u r using?
dope any footy on guam?
what is your torch model..?
What kind of light are you using?
Why didnt u had any weightbelt on?
I am deep enough not to need one
Freediver HD Doesn't it affects your performance (more force needed to get deep = higher oxygene use)?
well I don't have wetsuit on. If I was wearing a wetsuit, then fighting against the boyancy of a wetsuit is tough.
Freediver HD Just as I thought. I have no problems in submerging too without wetsuit. I guess it depends on one's body (and much on minimal amount of fat), Thanks for answers!
