As an avid bubbler, I'm totally amazed at your skill and abilities. 1st I saw a free diver at 100ft depth a few years ago, he was in a yoga pose. Crossed arms and legs. I must have sucked in 5 breaths and he still hadn't moved. I was happy he opened his eyes and went to the surface again agonizingly slow.
Pretty funny! However I would discourage messing with divers unless you know them really well. My dad is a dive instructor, so I grew up diving. I would like to point out that even just seeing something they weren't expecting can panic a new diver and send them rocketing to the surface. As a free diver you can appreciate what this means if they forget to exhale, which neophytes typically do when panicking. So please don't mess with the divers unless you know them personally and know their skill level.
+rexiklexi169 someone touches you from behind on the shoulder you tend to jump and freak out dont you same happens here but underwater its 10 times worse because you never know what it was that just touched you it could be a fish it could be a shark you dont know till after
Dude, there are other languages than fucking english on this planet. Get over the fact not everybody speaks perfect english. Do you even speak a second language properly?
Nitrogen and the "bends" is still a danger to free-divers although it rarely does become a problem. With enough free-dives in rapid succession and long enough bottom times, freedivers do get the bends. I have never and I feel it is because I usually follow a rule of the "8's" that start when I start at 80 feet. I force myself to spend 8 minutes purging/breathing up on the surface if I just dove to 80 feet. 10 minutes for 100. 15 for 150 feet and so on. This has worked for me so far.
Glad to hear I was an inspiration. I like to say that freediving is 90% mental and 10% training. Being comfortable and relaxed while going deep is the biggest challenge for most freedivers. 80' and 3 minutes is something to be proud of. Just keep at it as long as you're diving with a solid partner who watches you like a hawk! The magical 100' will come soon. :-)
He did not interfere with anyone's equipment. He was having fun and considering these dives sites are accessible by boats, he was probably on their boat in the first place and warned them. The "holy shit" comment was probably because no diver would actually expect him to have gone through the wreck at that depth. Having someone tap on your shoulder is no more surprising than a fish flashing unexpectedly close to your mask. If that diver panics because he has someone tap his shoulder he has never been taught to dive with a buddy. In scuba diving all kind of things happen to you, fin kicks to the face by noobs that flood your mask, a reg knocked out of your mouth etc. These people were at depths that exceed a regular open water diver so they would either be advanced divers or with an instructor. Anyways, people, lighten up, this is a fun video and I am in awe at this breatholding abilities.
Réal Fortin I don't like any kind of "practical jokes" underwater and on the land. Is not nice to scare people and is dangerous to do this underwater for your personal pleasure. I am a scuba diver and see no pleasure for a punk to kill someone pleasure of diving.
Alex Leonardi Some people, especially first timers, experience claustrophobia when they dive. I sometimes freelance as an assistant instructor when I'm on holiday, in exchange for free rental gear and a bit of change, and trust me a panicking diver is no laughing matter. When they lose it, they go straight for the surface. In case you don't know surfacing too fast while breathing compressed air, is really dangerous. If this was my team, I would've blacked that freediver's eye.
+Cayden1988 Yeah. Try that. You'll learn some fun stuff about pressure-locked first stages as you turn helplessly around your own axis trying to apply force to an immovable object in a weightless environment. Then afterwards during the surface interval the diver might inquire why you did not opt to just turn off the air using the actual knob designed for the purpose, and why you think the diver would still be alive and conscious anyway breathing pure oxygen at 100 ft . I think you'd sleep soundly what with all the new tricks and stuff you'd learned that day.
Awesome video dude, love seeing people so comfortable in the water. Me and my friend went on a free diving trip in Asia last year, and at one of the resorts some overweight 50yo mid life crisis scuba divers gave us shit - we just dropped down to their 20m's on their leaner dives, checked their air pressure gauges, and told their instructor to take them up haha. Best trick ever :p
THis man has some serious lungs! :O I can barely hold my breath for that long whilst im totally still. He does it whilst swimming down to 100ft, and then fooling around down there for a bit, and then swimming back up. Insane!
If a freediver tried these tricks on me, I'll just hold onto them and see if they are still amused 😂 Amazing video by the way dude. In all seriousness, I always appreciate some diver humor.
well said this man deserves a round of applause people should just dive or just free-dive but all the better if they do both ive been doing both for about 3 years and never discriminated between the two
Paul McDonnell, hey mate, i was born deaf too, and i am a freediver too, i think that sport is the best for us, it's amazing when we're at those depth in the blu and in our silence, that's the best feeling ever, catch you later bro !
I couldn't have even if I wanted to. Never ever heard music in my life before - born deaf so pretty clueless and couldn't care less about any sound related stuff... Glad it turned into an unexpected bonus for this video.
Awesome, simply awesome. I have a hard time free diving past 20 ft. You get past 100, and have time to mess with other people. Definitely a fun video to watch.
I still find it amazing what you've trained your body and mind to do. I wouldn't believe how long you could go without breathing if I wasn't watching it. Hopefully I see you down under somewhere and can be amazed in person.
I'm a scuba diver as well, and I've worked up a pretty good free dive depth. Im 18, overweight and smoke, and I can free dive beyond 60-70 feet. It has everything to do with slowing your heart rate down and using the least amount of oxygen as possible. Kicking frantically on the way down will only hinder you. I use long Cressi fins and as blessum was saying, and they make a world of difference.
I love that the camera can hear your ears clear, and it sounds exactly like my ears in my own head when diving. I figured that was a sound inside my head only!
The way i equalize most of the time is open up my jaw kind of like a yawn. it saves me from having to use my hand to close my nose. every once in a while i have to use my hands. Nice freediving, i can only go about 50 feet now.
I scuba dive, I just got certified. but then again, I'm only 15 and I suck at free diving. I believe that they are two different experiences. free diving you get to swim down, you get the adrenaline rush and then you feel calm. I like Scuba Diving because you get to go down, and experience the underwater world for long periods of time.
Born deaf but tremendous lungs my friend god bless you I was diagnosed with asthma seems I was born and I’m getting into diving now and I find it hard for me to keep my breath underwater I often do exercises I search online to make my lungs better :( ........ awesome video and nice wreck place
@@RedSkyrkw they never shut your scuba of. You just stay at bottom at about 5-6m and watch the instructor do it. You have to "stand up" on the bottom and hold your breath. Let your second stage go and ascend slowly letting a little bit of air out because of pressure change. Once you are on the surface you have to blow your bcd up using only your mouth. The instructor will ask you if everything is ok and if you say yes you just go back down while others do it. And lets not forget that the instructor is the whole time right next to you with second stage in his hand. They arent allowed to turn your air supply of and only place anyone is is navy seals.
Actually there are documented incidents of free-divers getting the bends from doing repeated deep in quick succession. That's why I make sure I spend a fair amount of time on the surface venting when I am doing deep free dives. My dive partner said he could hear the scream/shriek and informed me.
I've met Paul (the free diver). He is an elementary school teacher, a very safety concious guy, and a nice dude. His tricks are not meant to be mean or cruel, just to provide a quick "wtf" moment and a smile. I hope you all have a chance to enjoy the ocean, and have a great day.
Wow, it's nice, I thought that without eardrums there is no need to equalize at all. I've read a story about a Greek fisherman who had no eardrums and could dive to 70-100 meters. It was one of freediving books, I am not sure which one.
There still is air in the middle ear and the eustachian tube that needs to be repressurized even after the ear drums are removed and the ear tubes sealed up.
I spent my 20s bubbling in my 40s my now 14 year old daughter has got me into freediving and l have been humbled to find I much prefer FD to bubbling,I feel I have gone from a slug on the bottom of the ocean with the bottom feeders to being part of the ocean and hunting just bolsters that home. And you just made my point right there!!!! Thanks for the upload did make me giggle😭😭😭
it takes alot of practice and being in shape always helps. Once you start freediving regularly though you get better and better each time. It's just as much mental as it is physical
LOL.. Did that in Hawaii decade or so ago. 90 feet. A tour class was being held and I went down to check it out. Two people turned around and I got a double double take. Took a pic of the moment. They offered me some air but I just waved it off and sat there for a min. Annnnndd DOUBLE DOUBLE take again!!! I could hear them thinking holy crap that guy is still here. LOL Couldn't take another pic. Stupid disposable cams. Can't wind them down there LOL Thanks!!! I haven't thought about that day in years.....
You have amazing fitness, I used to Scuba and free dive, but not even 1/4 of what you do. I really do hope you have a dive buddy though. The way I look at it, nothing wrong with either free diving or scuba, the main thing is they are out there, not sitting at home playing computer games.
Haha I love the one where you dive through the wreck and he screams :D I do scuba diving myself and omg that'd probably have scared the heck out of me too, just nothing you'd expect.
Great to learn some more tricks to play on the scuba divers! I went to a spring and put my mermaid tail on and tried to swim down to the divers and surprise them, but they don't look around at their surroundings much. I feel like I would have been better off posing by one who wasn't paying attention like you did in the video haha. I did however startle a guy snorkeling on the surface (without intending to) I swam to the bottom and swam up right by him and he told me he didn't expect to see a mermaid swimming up from the bottom of the spring.
I'm a bubbler, and free divers are awesome. It would be great to see you swim by bubblers without a mask and wetsuit at 100', that would wow them. Keep Diving!
@LovingLifewithWife I race in triathlons, run marathons, lift weights, and do some occasional pool training. Those activities probably only contribute to about 10-20% of my breath holding ability though. Like you pointed out, I look comfortable in the water. That's the key thing - It's pretty much all mental.
@blessumm I admire you and admire ur skills and ur strong heart..and above all ur videos, God Bless you and keep u in good health... Ur fellow freediver..
Dang ocean, you big! Crazy talent btw. I can barely hold my breath for 1 minute and barely 10 seconds at anything deeper than 10 ft. Haha. The only way I let up on pressure is to slowly exhale to balance it out. But by that time I'm all out of breath.
He literally yells HOLY SHIT. That is funny. These are a bit on the asshole level, but nothing dangerous like turning off their air or stealing their mask. I think the best would be to ask them how much air they have. Point at Scuba diver Make your hand into a fist, with your index finger extended, but curled into a quistion mark like hook. Make the piece sign and tap it to your palm.
I think the first step when learning scuba diving should be to learn free diving. That way you first learn to know your body and how it acts under water. How the burning in your lungs is mostly mental. How to keep control even when the air does not flow. That way should equipment fail (and yes, that is always a possibility) you will remember to stay in control and still come up to the surface. It’s really just one more safety net.
While this free diving gentleman may be a bit proud of his abilities over "bubblers" he really does not seem to be a fool. He risks no ones neck but his own & he certainly seems capable enough. Diving is a dangerous sport with or without tanks.
I thought I understood your comment to like halfway through.. Now I am just sitting here wondering how giving a regulator to a fish relates to the stuff I thought I understood xD
That was some skill! If i was there, I'd have never expected a Freediver at that depth, either! I think Freediving is very beautiful, but it takes more guts than skill.
@blessumm thanks paul. i can't wait to start using this technique. took me awhile to do it correctly (at least i think i'm doing it correctly) i'll let you know if it works for me on the next dive. but might not be for awhile because my way of equalizing before was not good so i think i have a ear infection and will have to wait to dive until its healed =( mahalo dive safe
@@blairforce1755 He did. OP seems a little full of himself though. Diver probably was caught off guard. Sure, he has talent. Don't see the need to belittle another persons sport though. You wouldn't see me talking smack about only having 2k subs after close to 10 years on YT 😄
Must be nice to dive in places with crystal clear water and no currents... we RARELY get 60ft vis in trinidad. Most times it's like 15-25ft vis top to bottom. Unless the east coast is super clean. Then you can see all the way to the bottom in blue water... Currents are always there though :( Peace from Trinidad and Tobago (tobago is usually clear most of the time... just those damn currents)
I've seen quite a few of your videos since getting my HD Hero and wondered a few times why you didn't add music to your videos as it would add an artistic element. It wasn't until seeing this video that I found out you were deaf, and it makes sense. Anyway, at least you were able to have your ears fixed so you could enjoy what you love without sacrafice to your hearing. I admire your abilities and thoroughly enjoy your videos, with or without music.
I love it !!! Im scuba zombie and already grand daddy. However, early this year started to learn free diving... hahaaa.. and now I love to catch tourist scuba divers at depths they dont expect to see a fat old man. (cant wait to try that tap the shoulder *oh, was not me* trick). My favorite is to look serious author while asking them using hand signs that how much they have air left (normally the dive leader does this for tourist divers every now and then).
Looks fun. Something peaceful about freediving. I was/am a bubbler gone freediving. I haven't been past 60 ft. but it's amazing being down there without gear. I haven't been diving in a while but the video allows me to feel that feeling. I'd like to get to 100 before i get to old. Lungs from being a mechanic/welder aren't as good a couple years ago. So where you diving at? Can't tell by the water. Live Long and Be Well (:
The holding breath thing is important only because as you go up gas expands and if your holding your breath you can get an over expansion injury and possibly arterial gas embolism.
LOL! reading some comments n it's HILARIOUS to see freedivers flaming the scuba divers and vice versa. even though both are underwater explorers, and both LOVE what they do :)
+Arthur Serino you think I care about my grammar on a UA-cam comment? Look the only reason your attacking my spelling is because that's the only thing you have against me so you exploit it as much as you can.
+Arthur Serino God, it must be exhausting to be around you all day. "Hey Tyler, that's not how you write that word." "Hey Tyler, that's not how you should navigate the internet." "Hey Tyler, that's not how you put your socks on." "Hey Tyler, let me show you how it's done...Tyyylleerrr!!! I wanna show you how to do it!! Why won't you listen to me Tyler."
***** Oh another open circuit diver. How cute. And by the way opinions aren't generally asked for. And: "piece of dog shit who writes insulting things to strangers on the internet?" ...I think you forgot why people have jumped down your throat here in the first place. You should scroll up and freshen up. Remember your first unsolicited comment? : "you have the spelling, grammar, and punctuation of a third-grader" . Which is funny because each subsequent post of yours is less and less coherent. Soon you will not be about to articulate properly altogether.
ignore Serino. he has a major habit of targeting a group of people on here and suggesting to them that suicide is a great option for them, and he makes crude sexual remarks towards women. he is sorely lacking in compassion, morals or integrity so this is what the world has to deal with. I bet hes just a pussy in real life.
Very impressive. Just getting into freediving and am determined to be a great one! Any training techniques or freediving courses you could recommend? Thanks
@outerpol I used to have around 100db hearing loss which means I used to be able to hear jets taking off if I was nearby, cars without mufflers driving by or my guns when hunting or at the shooting range. Ever since last year when I had my middle ear removed to make diving more simple for me, I have not been able to hear anything at all. I don't really notice it. The only challenge is that I have to visually check on my newborn triplets very often to make sure one of them is not crying.
Great video. I hope to meet you one day when I'm out making bubbles. Too many people take scuba and freediving too serious, why not relax and have fun?!
blessum i have another question. sometimes my right ear won't even pop out of the water. any ideas? my sinuses are clear. and i just learned the technique. but my left ear won't pop sometimes.
on the way up, rather than the air in your sinuses compressing (like on the way down), its expanding. so on your assent, for a scuba diver (couldnt imagine it being different for free divers) the excess air naturally comes out as your exhale.

it takes alot of practice and being in shape always helps. Once you start freediving regularly though you get better and better each time. It's just as much mental as it is physical
When one has super power its not always good to be cheeky about it but your camera shots are incredible.
Nice !
I am technical diver but love freediving , my wife is freediver, she did the same to me once when i was on deco stop :)
Great video, thumbs up from us and cheers from sunny IGY Simpson Bay Marina, Sint Maarten in the Caribbean.
I love this video. The diving is awesome! Good job.
You have amazing fitness, I used to Scuba and free dive, but not even 1/4 of what you do. I really do hope you have a dive buddy though. The way I look at it, nothing wrong with either free diving or scuba, the main thing is they are out there, not sitting at home playing computer games.
I think I could actually hear you eustachian tubes opening there a few times in the last clip... Cool!
Trick to play on free divers: Grab their ankles as they are swimming up to the surface.
I'm a bubbler, and free divers are awesome. It would be great to see you swim by bubblers without a mask and wetsuit at 100', that would wow them. Keep Diving!
@LovingLifewithWife
I race in triathlons, run marathons, lift weights, and do some occasional pool training. Those activities probably only contribute to about 10-20% of my breath holding ability though. Like you pointed out, I look comfortable in the water. That's the key thing - It's pretty much all mental.
Harmless prank vs lethal prank. There is a difference which is humorous
That's an insane amount of distance you go down. Hard core! So impressive 💪
@blessumm I admire you and admire ur skills and ur strong heart..and above all ur videos, God Bless you and keep u in good health... Ur fellow freediver..
imho this guy is amazing for being to able hold his breath for so long
Dang ocean, you big!
Crazy talent btw. I can barely hold my breath for 1 minute and barely 10 seconds at anything deeper than 10 ft. Haha. The only way I let up on pressure is to slowly exhale to balance it out. But by that time I'm all out of breath.
Wonderful clarity. Where is this?
Oahu
+salman fuz nah there to fat and out of shape
And this my friends is why I carry a knife.
He literally yells HOLY SHIT. That is funny. These are a bit on the asshole level, but nothing dangerous like turning off their air or stealing their mask. I think the best would be to ask them how much air they have.
Point at Scuba diver
Make your hand into a fist, with your index finger extended, but curled into a quistion mark like hook.
Make the piece sign and tap it to your palm.
You suffer from dementia? Or simply illiterate?
Keith Larsen haha perfect response!
Great skill! Looks like you have alot of fun down there. I'll stick to making bubbles myself ;)
It’s really just one more safety net.
i love how like when you free dive im like in a dream lke things are unreal
LoooL, best. I love to have fun with scuba divers and pranking while freediving. :)
While this free diving gentleman may be a bit proud of his abilities over "bubblers" he really does not seem to be a fool. He risks no ones neck but his own & he certainly seems capable enough. Diving is a dangerous sport with or without tanks.
Pretty deep. Thats the depth where some divers cook out and do things like give his regulator to the fish.
What?
YeshuaAgapao wtf?
I thought I understood your comment to like halfway through.. Now I am just sitting here wondering how giving a regulator to a fish relates to the stuff I thought I understood xD
Feeding the regulator to the fish in euphoric bliss -- Nitrogen narcosis. At depth it could be faked also.
Oh you mean gas narcosis. One diver I was with thought he saw his pet dog on the sea floor wagging its tail.😂
That was some skill! If i was there, I'd have never expected a Freediver at that depth, either! I think Freediving is very beautiful, but it takes more guts than skill.
@blessumm thanks paul. i can't wait to start using this technique. took me awhile to do it correctly (at least i think i'm doing it correctly) i'll let you know if it works for me on the next dive. but might not be for awhile because my way of equalizing before was not good so i think i have a ear infection and will have to wait to dive until its healed =(
mahalo dive safe
That is amazing... I wish I could go that deep! Funny to watch haha.
I wish you could have heard him too. Something like Holy Sh!t and a chuckle. Hardly screaming like a little girl.
He got him pretty good! U know thats what he was he was talkin about soon as he got topside.
@@blairforce1755 He did. OP seems a little full of himself though. Diver probably was caught off guard. Sure, he has talent. Don't see the need to belittle another persons sport though. You wouldn't see me talking smack about only having 2k subs after close to 10 years on YT 😄
@@DonFassbender in the words of Rodney King. "Can't we all just get along." Free/scuba divers def pick a side. We all love being underwater.
@@blairforce1755 Very true. Put the egos away boys, enjoy the sport 👍
paul McDonnell, that is impressive, how long can you hold your breath for, and are you really diving down 100 feet? that is unbelievable
Man... i heared you balancing the pressure in your ears :)))
insane...
Must be nice to dive in places with crystal clear water and no currents... we RARELY get 60ft vis in trinidad. Most times it's like 15-25ft vis top to bottom. Unless the east coast is super clean. Then you can see all the way to the bottom in blue water... Currents are always there though :(
Peace from Trinidad and Tobago (tobago is usually clear most of the time... just those damn currents)
I like people with sense of humor :)
My favorite is to look serious author while asking them using hand signs that how much they have air left (normally the dive leader does this for tourist divers every now and then).
best thing I've seen in ages, bar my reflection........
Where is this dive spot?
Mad freediving skills- fair play!
Are you using the flatlens replacement on your GoPro ?
Your a great diver staying down that long around 100ft. I've been freediving for 3 years and can only stay for a short time.
+Arthur Serino you think I care about my grammar on a UA-cam comment? Look the only reason your attacking my spelling is because that's the only thing you have against me so you exploit it as much as you can.
+Arthur Serino God, it must be exhausting to be around you all day.
"Hey Tyler, that's not how you write that word."
"Hey Tyler, that's not how you should navigate the internet."
"Hey Tyler, that's not how you put your socks on."
"Hey Tyler, let me show you how it's done...Tyyylleerrr!!! I wanna show you how to do it!! Why won't you listen to me Tyler."
+Ben Heslop Good pickup lad, i salute you. get rid of this loser....
Love this so much as a bubbler.. :-)
