Late 60’s and watching this after deadlift routine yesterday. Hips worn out, left replaced 10 years ago and right scheduled for October 30. I’ve stopped doing all the other exercises here so I’d have to agree with his advice.
Am mid 50s and am still doing most of these exercises like when i was 30s. Most "utub" experts says you're too old to squat or dead lift. Think depends on conditioning. Also, take time to stretch and warm-up as we mature. Nourish joints, bones and mobility daily for active lifestyle. Funny thing is they're not over 50s and they're now an expert of what we can and can't do.
Of course it depends on your condition, but he is speaking to potentially half a million people so he would have to generalize. And yes, he is an expert. Would you not follow the advice of an oncologist because she's never had cancer?
I am 60 and have been doing these exercises for years. I am conditioned to it but I have to agree Form and Control is everything. I tend to do more mobility workouts now but when I do a strength workout I tend to use lighter weights and pay attention to Form and Control. When running, form is very important. I have slowed my running down and paid attention to looking up and keeping my hips pressed forward. This stopped me from running on tip-toes and straining my achilles tendon. Form again. I could recover quickly from injuries when younger, but I am much more cautious now. I good video, but as a counter argument, I would say we have to push the envelope to a degree, just do it properly.
Motion is lotion, rest is rust.. Im 54 and not stopping any of these. Jeeze, anyone would think 50 is old. surely it's better to keep doing these to stay strong, as long as you use proper form and do mobility, what's age got to do with any of these 🤷♀️
@nadiamoulay3861 Yup! ..It's actually extra important at my age, for that reason. Plus deadlifts strengthen your posterior chain, keeps you upright as you get older, why would you stop? This ageism really annoys me 🤨
Good advice for any age! Why wait until you’re old and injured when you can prevent all of that damage in the first place ❣️ The neck rolls especially, who would’ve guessed, was told to do that since elementary school🤯 Also millennials and their super tight skinny jeans 🙃 That looks so painful 😖 Think about getting bloodflow to the extermities, surprised to see this, especially from a dr who advocates for good health. Number #1 advice should be to never wear anything that restricts blood flow to the feet.
Sir. I want to strengthen my lower back so I can play pickleball and golf next spring. What three exercises do you recommend for someone with moderate bulging disc L4-L5 and L5-S1 and Osteroarthris of the lumbar spine? I am 68 and very active otherwise. Thanks.
I recently started surfing, which involves quite a bit of back extension. Anything I should be careful of? So far it seems to be helping my lower back strength a lot, but I have previously injured it from doing weights just like you described in #1)…anything to watch for when surfing? Thanks!
We will all age and we will all experience injuries or stresses on our bodies at some point. At that time you will be looking for alternatives. I appreciate the suggestions on modifications and will def be making some changes. Thx for video.
Could you please clarify the sit up? What you are demonstrating there is a crunch, not a sit up. You then correct that crunch. But are sit ups, when you come up close to the knees, are those okay, or not? Thanks.
Hi Dr. Livingood, please answer my question about Ensure Drinks. That has TOXIC in it. I'm going to have surgery on Oct 22,24. What can I drink after my surgery?? I can't eat for 48 hours!!
I'm not Dr. L but coconut water with 1/2 tsp salt and 1 to 2 oz if oj or pineapple juice and juice if half a lemon will supply electrolytes. You can also drink bone broth or do a smoothie with blueberries, bananas and milk.
How many people are on their cell phones all day long? I can only imagine what damage it will cause to the people that can’t live a day without looking at it. I can already see kids spines curving b/4 they’re 20
These are great thank you! I drive a coach bus and am 59 ugh! I find if I "run" while I'm driving or swing my feet with my seat set a little higher, it really relieves my back pressure, helps to make me sit properly, works my muscles that are constantly slack while driving, and moves the blood in my legs a LOT!!
@@DrLivingood proper form yes….but that is advice for all ages. Not proper form, you can hurt yourself, even if you are 20! Age has nothing to do with it.
I’m 64 and have been exercising since I was 18….Still doing the same Fun exercises and no one will tell me that I’m too old. That’s like big farmmmma tell me I need their p illllls

Exactly. Especially that lifting weights is essential to fight osteoporosis and sarcopenia.

Lunges are good for building strength. At age 79, i do them 4 x a week, and while holding a 25 lb dumb bell. They are hard work.
Wowww thanks, I will change my neck rotation! Thank you 😅🫡🙏🏽
Horse stand is good too.
I like good mornings over Romanian DL (which I’m sure you’ll love) but Ive been doing them and squats forever.
EDIT: ps PT types seem to think hip hinging is complicated or unhealthy when it is neither
I am 62 and have done squats for years with weight, no injuries but what about leg press, would that be better than weighted squats?
If they work for you, that is okay to continue! But if you would like to modify, you can do them without weights! -LGD Team

OMG, I’m doing this in all my workouts every one of them no wonder I’m in pain. How am I supposed to get muscle?

Of course squats and deadlifts are very effective: BUT it depends on form, condition level, and appropriate weight. I was powerlifting at 50+ years.

There is so much contradiction on UA-cam who knows what we are supposed to do!
Thanks. You are wonderful.

So the issue is sitting, not age

Do you think we are all decrepit over 50.
Not by any means! Some of these exercises are okay, but it is very important to have proper form. - LGD Team
