While tesla has a lot of advantages, it also has not so obvious disadvantages. Getting service on it requires day trips for some in the US and they could do way better with disabling things with who they deem bad actors and don’t even dare try fixing something on your own

My answer is the same as yours. I am in the market for an electric car and I've test driven both cars. I loved the Mach-E, it felt very safe and solid. I do wish the regen braking was a little more aggressive as you said, but overall I loved that car. Then I test drove the Model Y and I had so much fun on that short little test drive. The seats were definitely more comfortable than the Mach-E, the regen braking felt nice and confident, the sound system was unbelievable, and the acceleration? Best I've ever felt. Between the two the deciding factor is the charging network. Ford has the electrify America chargers but many youtubers have posted showing how bad and unreliable they actually are. You don't want to be hundreds of miles from home stuck at a fast charger where none of the stalls work. With Tesla, you can be confident knowing when you get there, they will work. I'm saving up for my Red Model Y, I plan on making the purchase in Sept of 2022 after the new version of it comes out. Thanks for the videos Gjeebs, enjoying the content!

I test drove the Mach-E twice And almost bought it but still went and test drove a model Y. Immediately ordered a model Y, was just so much better. The mach-e is fun but still feels like you're driving a Ford car. The Tesla was an experience in itself and shows that a good company can still change the way we think of driving and how we experience it.

I went the Mach-E route purely based on looks :P. I’m not a fan of the egg/catfish look of Tesla vehicles and love the front grill of the Mach-E. I am concerned about the processor used in the Mach-E since I know the Model Y isn’t skimping in that department. Also, there are soooo many Teslas around (for good reason) and I’m just sick of looking at them :P Both cars are great and I can’t wait to finally ditch my ICE vehicle.

I am a M3P owner and test drove the Mach-e (regular and GT version). It is a nice car that many folks would enjoy. I prefer the minimalist Tesla interior, but many folks would have the opposite opinion. One thing I noticed immediately during the test drives that you did not mention, but is obvious in your video, is the massive hood. The M3 and Y have a front end that slopes down radically, making the front hood disappear from the driver's seat. The forward visibility in the Tesla is fantastic, whereas I felt like I had blinders on when driving the Mach-e. Anyone coming from a gas car with the big hood won't even notice, it is only because I come from such a radically shaped vehicle. Tesla does not offer entry level vehicles and price of the lower-tier Mach-e is now significantly lower than the Model Y in the 1-year+ since you made your video. I totally agree with your assessment regarding the charging network, but the dealership network is Ford's huge advantage over Tesla as it make service a snap. I decided to order a Model Y after my Mach-e test drive, in part for the heat pump (I live in the Northeast and the range of my M3P is halved in the cold), in part because I liked everything a bit more in the Tesla compared to the Ford and in part because we are lucky to have a Tesla service center in my city. That said, I have to admit that the "I liked everything a bit more in the Tesla" most likely reflects my familiarity with the product. I suspect that many ICE drivers would have the same familiarity pull with the Ford rather than the Tesla. Nice review, thank you.

I drove both cars on extended test drives. I researched both. I was logging in to order the Tesla when they jacked the price up 2 grand. That made like 8 grand increase since January 21. It is not like they used better materials or anything. So, the Ford interior was more roomy and they did not jack up the price so I ordered the Ford. The funny thing is the Ford had been more expensive than the Model Y before the latest price increase.

Went with a Model Y 7 seater - don't use the extra seats all the time but able to fit kids/friends for short trips so we didn't have to take 2 cars and they fold flat so not sacrificing any space when not using them. Extra storage with the frunk/sub trunk also comes in handy. Definitely agree with the added benefits of the tesla super charging network which is in addition to being able to charge wherever the Mach-E can charge at (electrify america, blink, evgo, etc).

I am looking to buy my first EV. This week I test drove the Mach-e and the Model Y. I'm like Gjeebs where I really think Ford has done a good job but my first big comparison was the front cabin. I'm 6'4" and 290#; my drive buddy is 5'7" and pretty hefty. I felt like two sardines in the Mach-e. As soon as I sat in the Model Y I felt like the car is much wider and comfortable. Now granted, I drove them two days apart and my muscle memory may have betrayed me but the Tesla seems like a larger interior. I currently have a Ford Edge SUV and although I don't haul a lot of stuff, I feel like the cargo area of the Tesla is great whereas the Mach-e seems quite small. Once again, like you... I think the Tesla Super Charging infrastructure is the icing on the cake that is leading me to the Model Y.

I've had the Mach-e for 4 months now and I much prefer over my model S. I got the 300 RWD Range mi version and I consistently get over 360 mi on charge where my Tesla p100d 315 mile range rarely get 260 miles on a charge. That why is makes me want to get rid of it. I drive very safely and I don't floor it. I try to maintain safe levels for the battery yeah I have never gotten what is advertised. The Mach-e is slightly slower but it's still a very fast car compared to most other vehicles.
The funny thing is that I live in Los Angeles, the number one city of Tesla sales and the charging network is pitiful here. My closest supercharger has been broken for 9 months at least but the charging Network for the Mach e in California is far better. There are a lot less people who have the same network so I'm not competing for chargers as well. Would Tesla on a road trip, it is sometimes a nightmare to charge

Test drove the Model Y and 3. The next day I test drove the Mach-E. The following day I ordered one. Why? Screen behind wheel, CarPlay, it has a better ride than Y, federal tax rebate, volume knob (intuitive), hands-free hatch, massive dealer network, and styling. I’ll give the charging network to Tesla, but that edge is temporary, as EV charging is expanding by the day. Dislikes with the Y: there was an annoying rattle. Checking the cargo areas (upper and lower), I couldn’t find the source. The ride was harsher. The interior is Spartan to a fault...just too antiseptic for my taste. While they were once novel, the outside styling now looks vanilla, as Teslas are now ubiquitous on the road. Having just the center screen is not good for critical information, since it pulls your eyes from the road. I’ve heard of significant wait times for Tesla service in the Boston area, which gives Ford a massive edge, due to their network of dealerships. My decision wasn’t even close, and this comes from someone who initially snickered at Ford’s initial reveal of the Mach-E and always lusted for a Tesla.

Nice summary. I am getting really sick and tired of all these “reviewers” getting into a Tesla and pronouncing that “this is the future”! It is NOT - it’s just Tesla’s view. The future is not barren, boring spartan interiors just because that’s what Tesla does (which Is really because it is the low cost option) , every “car” maker should be able to have there own design direction and not be lambasted for it because it isn’t like a Tesla. Anyway, as a consumer I want more choice, variety, suppliers etc in any market, not one monopoly player that dictates what I want. It’d be a pretty awful and boring streetscape if everyone was driving the same car.

People might think they can get a 0-60 time for $42,895 and 305 miles - not the case. Also, I noticed more body roll in the Mach-E compared to my Tesla Performance Model Y.
The Mach-E GT Performance Edition Extended Range Battery, a
$5,000 added on option which has a Target Range: 235 miles and a Usable Battery Capacity: 88 kWh 0-60 in 3.5 seconds which starts at $64,900 before choosing interior/exterior colors or packages. Now if you want the 305 mile range with a 0-60 time of 6.1 secs for the rear-wheel drive only - that would be the California Route 1 edition which starts at $50,400 before any ext/inter color ops or packages. 😉

Model Y needs a couple more years to get the quality issues sorted out. @25:00 He says Tesla will be in trouble if Ford figures out the charging network. Ford has Plug & Charge which I've used many times. Just pull up to a 350kW fast charger, plug in and it immediately charges. It charges my Ford account afterwards. Super easy to use and identical to the Tesla Supercharger network. This is a brand new car and charging network and it'll have bugs just like Tesla did in the beginning but its getting better everyday. Really happy to see there's a direct competitor to Tesla now.

This was a well thought out video, great job. I can tell you first hand i went to a large Ford dealer in San Diego a few weeks ago to look at the Mach E, they had like 10 of them on the lot. Apparently they were all special order, they wouldn’t even open one of them for me. Now i get production is down, Covid, whatever, but if you can’t test drive one or they make it difficult, why would you want to buy one? Ford needs to get their shit together and understand the EV market and buyer, the mind set, and right now they’re about as far as they can get from it. Their dealer network is a bunch of old guys who are used to the good old days, when beating you up on your trade and then “Making a deal” on a new car is the program. Ordering my 2 Tesla’s was the easiest and best car experience I’ve ever had, and enjoyable, including the easiest test drive EVER. They don’t need to SELL Teslas, they sell themselves. Ford dealers and other OE’s need a major course correction, or they’re literally going to loose a massive amount of their market because all their customers are an older generation that is fading. This mind set is reflected in the design of the Mach E. The whole idea that they could use the “Mustang” brand to build their 1st EV is part of the irony, stop milking the brand to make something new and technologically advanced, just DESIGN & BUILD something NEW!!! How many versions of the Mustang are they going to Milk? I’m sorry, but if your a traditional Mustang buyer, the Mach E is ugly as sin. If your not a Mustang buyer in the past, because you don’t like or need one, why would you buy an EV with the same name? All Ford did was take the Tesla and try to make a couple things better (they thought) and slap the Mustang label on it. They forgot all the stuff that matters: The Tech, charging network, range, power, and lastly, they need to spend about a billion dollars on a cool marketing campaign that understands who the EV buyer really is, and what they want, not what FORD wants to sell.

I have not been able to arrange a test drive of the Mach e as local dealer informs me no vehicles are available to drive. Your review has been most informative and has I think sealed my decision to purchase the Tesla! I should mention that even with the Ford A plan discount ( I am a retiree) and the federal tax savings with the Ford, I believe the Tesla would be a smarter purchase.

Amazing how fast Ford is catching up on the charging network and soon to pass Tesla. This is because Ford is integrating directly to the chargers in the app like Tesla but uses third-party charging stations like electrify America. We ordered a Model Y after test-driving the Mach-E and the ID.4. The Mach-E we test drove at the dealer had build issues -- the mirrors couldn't be adjusted (they shut closed if you tried) and the drive mode couldn't be changed. That was a huge turn off for us. I mean, the test drive vehicle should be in really good shape! The ID,4 we drove also had issues. Anyway, Ford has more recalls than any manufacturer. We decided that even if there were some panel gap issues (our Prius has them, so not that worried), the driving experience was better with the Tesla we test drove and obviously the charging network is superior. Still waiting for our Y (but then, our wait would be even longer if we'd ordered a Mach-E).

    • @ElementaryWatson-oxo

LOL. You've got to drive some defective cars (you must be incredibly unlucky) and then made your conclusion based on that? There is a Mach-E forum, defects are very rare, not like Tesla that each car has multiple defects and you pay even before test driving and then wait and hope they will fix all the defects.😂

    • @artmotocafela7874
      @artmotocafela7874 3 роки тому +1

@@ElementaryWatson-oxo have you ever bought a car and owned one? Do you know the difference between cosmetic issues and mechanical issues? Who would pay for a car before taking delivery? On all of the cars we test drove, we had to put down a deposit of $100 if we wanted to buy one, but only if we wanted to do that. We did not have to pay anything to test drive. And when we decided on the Tesla, we didn't have to pay for it in advance. The day of delivery, we thoroughly inspected the car (no defects, btw), then sat in the car and signed the paperwork and transferred the money using our phone. If we'd bought a Ford, we would have done all of that in the dealer's financing office instead of inside the car. Otherwise the process would have been very much the same. I assume you're new to vehicle ownership. We've had many, many vehicles from different manufacturers over decades of driving. We aren't naive buyers and we understand the difference between cosmetic defects that don't affect the drivability of a car and mechanical ones. You want to see a disaster waiting to happen? Check out Sandy Munro's teardown of the hose and clamp nightmare under the Mach-E's hood. When you think about reliability, the panel gaps and paint defects don't matter. It's much more important to know that there is a reduced chance that you'll be stranded on the road from a mechanical problem. In survey after survey, Tesla owners are happy with their cars and say they'd buy them again, because most people don't actually care about cosmetic issues, all of which can be solved (and also don't impact drivability). They want genuine reliability. They want to know that they can get from point A to point B safely and efficiently.

Well steps involved to start Ford vs Tesla.
    Ford:
    1. Keys in pocket- get in car
    2. Apply break, press start button and drive
    Tesla:
    1. Card in pocket get in the car.
    2. Take out the card and place it exactly near the cup holder for car to detect the card then apply breaks and drive.
According to me it really depends what experience you want but as an industrial engineer I think the steps involved in each process are same but chances of error with Tesla are more. I’m someone who forgets keys in car so the key in pocket feature is actually a pulse.

You're noticing the range dropping slower in the Mach-E because the battery is much bigger, tires are skinny, and the wheels are smaller. Your tesla has those big tires and induction wheels that reduce range quite a bit. Either way, Ford did a great job with this car. Plus with that tax credit it's just so much cheaper and I think it looks better on the exterior. After sitting in both, it would be really really tough to pick. I'd lean Model Y for overall being better, but Mach E for looks and cheaper price due to tax credit.

We will be taking delivery of our Model Y next week. It's our third electric car (Model 3 and BMW i3).
At this time and after watching this review I can't think of one reason for me to say "I wish I ordered the Ford M2, not the Tesla Mod Y).
The Mod Y seems to handily beat the M2 when it comes to:
    - range
    - acceleration
    - cabin space
    - storage space
    - user interface
    - autonomy
    - quality of materials
    - design and style (that's subjective, of course)
In fact, if it was 3 years ago when we took delivery of our Mod 3 and the only EV available to purchase at the time was the M2 (the Mod 3 or Tesla did not exist) would I buy a M2? Not likely. And this coming from someone who happily owned a traditional Ford Mustang up until a few years ago.

@@Gjeebs no no, i'm just saying that cleanliness of the energy that propels your electric vehicle is fully dependent on the fuel mix (% of coal, nat. gas, solar, wind, hydro, nuclear) of your state. The fuel mix of someone in Iowa vs Colorado vs Ohio vs California vs Hawaii are all completely different. So the blanket statement people make that "the smokestack from coal plants is powering your car ya EV dummy" is too simplistic.
I tried to find a site that breaks it down well but none were that great. If you search "US Electricity Generation Fuel Mix ("by state" is cool too)" you can see the obvious trend, but breaking it down by state really shows you where your energy comes from on a local level. www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/10/28/climate/how-electricity-generation-changed-in-your-state-election.html (hopefully links work)
Once Tesla has solar powering every charging station it will be a true gamechanger. Not sure if that will truly mean solar panels installed at every supercharger location or just that they'll just purchase SRECs (Solar Renewable Energy Credits - I can't explain as well as a quick google search) for every Supercharger kWh but either way it's an awesome improvement.

Mainly because the Ford salesman who showed me the car made the same error, the mispronunciation of the drive mode ‘Unbridled’. The red car is a Mustang. A Mustang is a horse, a wild horse to be precise. When referring to the drive modes, pronounce the Unbridled mode with a long ‘i’ , not a short ‘i’. Then make the connection back to the idea of a wild horse, a Mustang, without a bridle, without the reins to control, the horse, in effect a fast horse without any encumbrances , fast without limitations. It’s sad that the connection is lost.
    We need more horse people.

Great job on this video. You gained a subscriber. May want to start using those frunks: They are super handy, and are great for things like reusable grocery bags, blankets, first aid kits, etc.
Also, regarding charging EVs: The Union of Concerned Scientists have been doing research on this very subject for years. In regards to pollution within the charging infrastructure: No matter how dirty a grid is (I live in the Rocky Mountain Region, the dirtiest electrical grid in the nation), it is only a matter of mileage before an EV "repays" its pollution debt from manufacturing and charging, and becomes less polluting than any other equivalent gasoline or diesel car. Additionally: Any efficiency gain in the charging network exponentially "cleans up" the electricity into ALL EVs within that charging infrastructure.

Great comparison video. And i agree, because of the charging network, tesla all the way. Keep up the great work

I’ve owned a model Y for a year now. Today I test drove a Maché. Drives nice. The Mache’s cabin rides high so rolls on sharp turns at speed. The Tesla hugs the road no matter the speed and curve or approach. Start/Stop button in the Mache is silly. I didn’t like the Mache’s hood in my view. This review doesn’t stress the contrast of the truck size and height. Mache’s steering is super smooth and rides soft whereas the Tesla steering is more responsive and rides stiffer. I’m amazed how much I’ve adjusted to the minimalism of Tesla’s single screen. The Mâché’s dash is desperately busy, and unnecessarily so.
The charging network with the Mache absolutely sucks. The single and most convincing reason not to own one. The same 7 hour road trip takes me an additional 50min of charging whereas it takes the Mache 12 hrs total. My friend with the Mache says he just can’t go on road trips without planning an additional 40% longer for charging.

Thanks for the review. I reserved a MME back in December, then I drove a MY and now I have some doubts, but I'm sure I truly enjoyed the MY the most. I only wish it had Android auto.

You'll love the MME trust, I say that as a MY &' MME owner. Yes all he said about Tesla is true they are way more advance in every aspect but you wont be having troubles finding charging stations as the MME does let you know where the charging stations are at as well when you go on road trips it does tell you where you'll need to stop and charge throughout the trip :)

I think the frunk is very usable. I store groceries in it and easier to get out when I get home in the garage.

Another downside for the Ford Mache E is having to deal with Ford Dealers during purchase process. They will tack fees to your contract or at least try.

You forgot to mention that the tesla model y has a better all wheel drive then the Mach e. So if your car was stuck in mud or is in a slippery surface the Tesla would be able to handle it better. I saw a video on it.

Another great video “4K” was awesome. I agree with you about the Tesla Charging network being a huge differentiator. Pleased that Ford produced a quality EV and that other manufacturers are committing to EV in the near future.

    Why I bought a Model Y instead of a Mach-e:
    1. Infotainment: Ford was, well Ford and the infotainment system was clunky and hard to use. Tesla with the integrated Google maps/ charging as well as the apps puts it over the top.
    2. Charging Network: Tesla's network speaks for itself.
Keep it up Ford, you're off to a great start. I loved the Mach-e but loved the Model Y more.
