I own a Model Y Performance, but I hope the Mustang Mach-E sells well too. The more electrics on the roads, the more affordable EV's will become as competition forces the automakers to make a longer ranged, faster charging, and overall better car than their competitors. I wonder how seriously they would've taken EV's had Tesla not of lit a fire under their feet.
Ford, VW, Nissan, Audi, Mercedes, etc. have A LOT catching up to do. VW ID.4 made me look into EVs only to find out Tesla is the best option for a foreseeable future.
They didn’t want EVs. They’re bad for the oil overlords. Tesla kinda forced their hand
They would have still been relegated to niche vehicles. As mentioned above none of them were innovating in any meaningful way until Tesla came along and showed them the way.
FORD will copy anyone. Their motto is “Buy it dissect it copy it slap FORD on it and say it’s the best” Next year they’re going to buy a Mars Rover from Boeing and slap a horse on it.

In 5 years we’re gonna laugh at the power and range of these two vehicles.
@Mark Kahn I think you’re wrong, with how fast battery and electric innovation is happening it will be soon.
@Mark Kahn the reason why Tesla hasn’t seen big improvements in the last 5 years is because they’ve been the only major car company doing it. Once other car manufacturers fully jump in to the EV wagon like Ford and GM, it’s pretty safe to assume that it will cause a chain reaction in the industry that will significantly increase RnD into the technology.
@Mark Kahn considering we used some type of horse transportation for over a thousand years, to driving cars in the early 1900’s, to putting a man in the moon only 50 years later, I think that speaks for itself. If there’s money to be made, organizations are willing to invest millions and billions of dollars to do it. They just have to be convinced about it, which is what we’re witnessing right now with everyone jumping on the EV wagon.
@Mark Kahn the fact that they had a couple design breakthroughs this year and practically eliminated traditional tabs and high cobalt content while increasing capacity, reliability, efficiency and overall range (14+% in the sedan model)in effect does say they are moving forward pretty quickly. They are currently working on another itteration to eliminate cobalt and still increase battery performance.
Not 40% quickly but more than likely over a quadruple of that 5% by 5 more years. With the biggest mine deposit of lithium in the world just found nearby (Mexico) close to their Texas/California stations they have more legroom to improve faster.
@@colscott5016 what're you talking about? EV's have been out for a good while now. Major car companies such as gm, Nissan have been in the game over a decade.

Glad to hear Ford will be doing over-the-air updates, like Tesla. To me, this is crucial. These cars are loaded with tech, and the software that actually propels the car is constantly improving. You get up in the morning, and your car runs better than it did yesterday because of an update your car received while you were sleeping. The Chevy Bolt, incredibly, requires a visit to a service center to get a software update.

I like how the fart feature is under “Emissions”
I SLIGHTLY prefer the Mach-e styling, and the heated steering wheel is something Tesla SHOULD offer, but the Tesla soundly wins everything else that I’d value. No contest.
Experience certainly is a bonus. These brands should even out in the future (along with other brands to come). I don't understand why the interior styling has to be so harsh, while they barely update the exterior styling. Car makers can't get the grille out of their designs for some reason. Teslas could be so much cooler in exterior design, yet they opt to be bland sedans for the most part. The Mustang-E looks like every other crossover on the market for the most part. Get creative, please!
As far as options, I can get heated/cooled seats and steering wheel in many cars. Something as forward thinking as electric vehicles should definitely have these options available if not included.
I believe the Model Y's made in China now have a heated steering wheel, so it's likely to come to the US. Like you said though, Tesla definitely wins for pretty much everything that matters (ESPECIALLY charging), but it's great to finally have a pretty good competitor.
Doug Demuro did a review on the Mach-E and he said one of the greatest contrasts is that the Mach-E's fit and finish was light years ahead of the Tesla Model Y.
My issue with Tesla is you can tell they are new to the game, it’s overall a decent product but just a bit off in every way, I really want to see what legacy manufacturers can do, and they sure are catching up quick.
Tesla’s exterior design is pretty bad with stale boring blank interiors with only a tacked on screen, Mach-E isn’t much better but still has a good trim and finish to it.
@@KayJblue We’ve BEEN seeing what legacy auto could do for years. They missed the boat and are pathetically behind.

Ford also has the Federal tax credit, and Colorado has a state credit I believe.

@@chuckm260 stealership tax = dealership markup on newly released models
@@hchchc22 Ah, the ole ADM - additional dealership markup. Yea, not paying that either. I believe Ford wanted to or at least attempt to mimic the direct sales model (ala, Tesla, Rivian, etc), meaning no ADM. Unfortunately I've read reports (in forums) of some Ford dealerships, minimally in California, charging ADM on the Mach-E, however, there are many, many other Ford dealerships across the country that are not charging any ADM. I know of one forum maintaining a list of them. As a matter of fact I just returned from my local Ford dealer who is not charging any ADM on the Mach-E. These legacy auto manufacturers with dealership models clearly have a more complicated scenario to work through than those manufactures with true direct sales models. It will be interesting how this plays out over the next few years as more and more legacy auto manufacturers and their dealers pivot to EVs.
I love how they compared these two. Best comparison video I’ve seen yet. 👍🏾

Awesome review guys. You guys Have a great chemistry. Bottom line is no one is going to touch Tesla when it comes to battery technology on EV cars. But glad there are other alternatives to Tesla as well. Just wish the price point was lower like in the mid 20s for base. 40 to 50 grand is a lot of money and there are plenty of other cars I’d rather have being a car enthusiast.
I’ve used summons twice when it was pouring outside. Although it’s extremely finicky and takes sometime to work, with the rest of what self driving does, I find it worth the price. When FSD, door to door, service comes out it will be worth even more.
Hows that FSD coming? Also-is there a way to keep your hands off the wheel---
The interior of the Mach-E looks better. Don't know which one i would buy, but it looks better.
@Strawberry Kiys ahhh but the tesla is soo ugly that it makes the Ford looks good....
The interior mesh cloth makes me think of a smart speaker.
I'm sure that's intentional.
Mach E would be the smart choice, Model Y, so you can join the Tesla Femboys !
I like Tesla interior, futuristic look. Mach-E looks like old school, unfinished project just like BMW i3's interior.
I love how people say “It’s NOT a “Mustang”…” YET the manufacturer literally named it MUSTANG. Mustang VARIANT…? sure. But no matter how you try do dance around it, the car IS a Mustang. It is the MUSTANG: “MACH-E”
How often do you adjust your mirrors?
This is the car Ford would never had built were it not for Tesla.
Ford did make an electric ranger
You're right. No one is denying Tesla's importance in the history of EVs.
@@taurussho86 But no oneknow about it. It was exclusive for fleets.
They didn't want people to know about it.
@JESUS H And how many of those did GM sell and what lasting effect did it provide? Why would any competitors hurry to build something to compete with that kind of success? If a company fail to capitalize on the fact of being first on the market for anything, then it has no one else to blame but itself.
@JESUS H Yeah but it was like a POS
Nice to see Tommy reigning in his dad. Allows me to keep the faith in today's youth. This was an honest real world review. Good job.
"Why does it ride like a cabbage cart?" Hahahahha
So with the regenerative braking to a complete stop or otherwise, does it illuminate the brake lights to the drivers behind the vehicle?
“Open glove box” is a voice command that you can use to avoid hitting the screen in Model Y.
Same with steering wheel adjustment, side mirrors, heated seats (at least model 3), and most everything else.
ya but then that would ruin his argument lol
I was going to post the same thing.
Yuck yuck, very funny... Tommy’s comments were good for laughs, but entirely misleading for a real car review.
Don’t need Apple CarPlay in Tesla. Using it in a Chevy Bolt, it can’t handle long lists and you end up with a weird situation when playing radio (built-in) and using Apple Maps or Google Maps navigation (via CarPlay). The blending the audio and lowering the volume when directions are given doesn’t really work. Tesla has Spotify, which wasn’t mentioned and there is talk of others like Amazon Music and Apple Music coming soon. Tesla also includes Netflix, UA-cam, a web browser and games. Useful when stopping for a Supercharge on a long trip or waiting for your spouse while shopping.
The kid got lost in carpoole karaoke while looking for the heated seat settings. I would get lost too if I buttonsmashed the screen like a 7yo playing streetfighter for the first time
Still took longer than just reaching right away
At the end of the day, I want my car to sound like a Tie Fighter.
An interesting study of all EVs you review would be the impact on range with various numbers of passengers with the driver, I.e., 1, 2, 3 to maximum. Add luggage or other typical traveling/tourist items as well.
"Which Wholefoods do you shop at" 😂😂😂😂😂 this kid is wild
Since it seems that Roman isn't too thrilled with the Mach E, I'll happily come over and take it off his hands. :-)
I go with son
They don't want to lose west coast clicks from Tesla fanboys on their videos.
Well appears Roman has trouble with any touch screen. I’d bet the kid setup his personal setting on the catfish
Roman seemed like he was struggling to actually find reasons that the Model Y was better. Mach E handily wins in the ease of use department.
Ford doesn’t have any of the 53 Common Tesla Problems(within spec). Even the panels line up perfectly ❤️
It's not on the road yet
@@robertpryor7225 If you watch the video, it's on the road.
@@andreyoungcompton it isn't a production unit is what they meant.
You work for Ford? Lol
If the option was available. Would you have chosen the dual motor or the standard range Tesla Y? Due to the price difference to pain just approx 84 miles in range. Here in canada its 14k difference just to get 135km and all wheel vs saving the 14k.
You can use voice command to open the glove box, adjust mirrors, adjust AC/Heat and seat warmers etc...
FYI, Apple did not create the first personal computer.
And enron did not invent electric cars
He said the Macintosh was the real first PC and that's absolutely not correct. However some of the early Apple computers might be considered the first real PC's Apple 1 in 1976 the Apple 2 in 1977, then You have the Vic 20 in 1980, IBM PC in 1981, commodore 64 in 82, the Amiga in 84.
It's interesting that while Apple was the first to market with really affordable PCS they didn't end up owning that market completely in PCS pretty much dominated except for in the education areas where most schools had Apple computers.
Can u imagine the sheer level of broken these cars will be in 10 years? Electronically controlled vents when they're right in front of you? An electronically activated glovebox latch? Disposable cars, do they come in a Costco 12 pack?
How is that different than the electric doors? Last I checked you open the door way more than the glove box.
My thoughts exactly. I'm not a fan of most of what they integrated into the screen. I don't want to move through menus or misclick something that used to be a simple physical knob.
you guys are awesome! happy to see dad and son having fun!
Thumbs up for this honest review. You were the only reviewer to say that Tesla cars rattle, and the first to say who cares about a car driving towards you in a parking lot. As for the Mustang, I find those door buttons an exaggerated "futuristic" design. Imagine in a car crash trying to open a bent door. Worse, for living in Canada just forget opening those doors after a freezing rain. I would much rather have cameras replacing the side rear view mirrors - when is the legislation going to change on these ?
Love my Model Y, but great to have more EV choices for all sorts of folks.
I like the actual controls for things you touch everyday
Would make more sense to have the old person representing Ford and the young guy for Tesla.
I'm glad to see the common sense that kid brings in comparing vehicles and representing the Ford .
Is he representing Ford or is he representing a Mustang? Either way I don't disagree with you. I hope Ford does well with this and like others, I appreciate that Tesla is forcing the hand of the legacy automakers. The competition is good for everyone and it will at the same time force Tesla to make rapid quality improvements if they want to keep the edge they have with their disruptive technology.
As a Model 3 driver, and someone that seriously looked at the Mach-E, anyone thinking about getting an EV please understand the 3 factors you need to be concerned about right now are range, cost and body style (storage). Everything else is just gimmicks and will change constantly as more manufacturers get into EV and more real world data is gathered.
While I do miss the driver display, range was more important since day and overnight trips are a possibility for my job. And no matter what car you go with always get the build with the greatest range if you can afford it. They will keep their value more than any other.
