As Christians, we too are not allowed to eat pig either. When I started studying the bible, I read that all pork and shellfish is forbidden too. I gave them up about 4 years ago.

Now, we make products for people all around the world regardless of their connection to us. So yes, our ancestors used pigs, and all sorts of animals to make basic tools and products, but we now use these same materials in ways our ancestors could have never dreamed of. And I find that to be very beautiful.

If you look at the world as a whole, humans are very far away from being intelligent and compassionate. We are capable of compassion in the right circumstances, but so is most other species.

If your reasons are more of a moral nature then i would agree, looks like it can be difficult to live a modern life without being a hypocrite. But it's often not even mentioned when there's gelantine in a product like I've never recognized before that there is some in low fat butter. And well, I don't use guns or smoke at all so.. But there are other things that she mentioned like the bread or some decoration. You can't go crazy everytime you buy something like this and find out if there's pig in it, that's what I mean.
