Lovely version of stairway that makes this old classic sound fresh. Well done.
I liked and noticed that too. That Page solo is iconic and has been replicated by many guitarists over the years but if it's altered and changed too much, it loses connection with the song. She played it note for note, got the bends just right and timing. Love it!
It would be horribly narcissistic to presume to "improve" upon the original solo in any way. Ms. Lloyd seems to recognize and appreciate that fact, leaving the solo mostly in tact. That's how you nod to the instrument's greats without offending them with your own ego. You found opportunities to showcase your own inventions elsewhere, which is always welcome. That's how you do a professional cover correctly: respecting the heritage while still viewing it through your own lens. Bravo, Ms. Lloyd.

I am 75 yrs old and I have seen Led Zeppelin Live playing their first album and then their second album including "Heart Breaker". The first album was so well produced the songs blend together between songs in precise and smooth transition....WOW. Put your earphones on and crank it to ten. This sexy young woman also does "All Along the Watchtower" (-Jimi Hendrix) WOW.

Have to say, after years of not really being able to play the solo to Stairway, I have finally learned it after being not only inspired by your jolly good renditions, but learned a lot from the clarity of your playing and lovely camera work. I have nailed it now.

I really thought you set yourself up for failure when you casually whipped out such pyrotechnics long before the fanfare. My thinking was, “there’s no more room to go higher or faster, so the ‘payoff’ will suffer.” I couldn’t have been more wrong. Expertly well done. Energy foreplay aside, your ear as an artist is on display here. When you chose to echo Page, when you chose to switch to Plant’s role, and when you chose to do your own thing, as well as how you went about it… truly masterful. No one would doubt you’re a skilled player, but if any ever doubted your artistry, this alone would prove them laughably wrong.

I always loved this song. My nan had it for her funeral. Every time i heard it i cried since. This version i didn't because i was in awe of your pure skill. PLEASE do Cliffs Of Dover. I would love you forever. I bet it's a piece of cake for you but do an extended version. I'd play it on repeat all day while i get my shizzle done. Miss Lloyd I have recently heard your name and music circles as being guitar God. As a visual artist, I just want to say thank you for putting positive vibes into the world. I have a habit of looking at other artists, whatever their platform/genre/media is, and when I look in your eyes as you’re playing this song, you have that look of Zen that one I get from creating. And I am a social worker at a State psychiatric hospital instead of working, and I will definitely recommend your work to my patients. Keep on making the world a better place however, you can.
Dear Sophie, I have been a Zeppelin fan for 45 years, and your version of Starway is amazing and beautiful. It has the hard rock spirit very high and improves some parts of the song ! I love it. Your playing is so complete but also your feeling touches my soul. I also play and sing it at the same time. But you have taken it to a higher dimension and that's great. That is what a gifted musician does. And you're a gifted musician. Keep on rocking!!

It's actually an ongoing joke from Wayne's World, you're right, everyone that picks up a guitar to test it in a music store play the intro to stairway and that's why they call it "the forbidden riff"🤣which I think is pretty stupid.

Okay, first off, how is it that you can play so brilliantly and shred with long fingernails like that, Sophie?

It’s yet another reminder that I should've become a musician and learned how to play the guitar. I was born with only one talent, the talent to craft stories and write, which has resulted in my writing hundreds of short stories and 1 novel, but if I could do it all over again, I'd definitely devote my life to creating music.
If I possessed your amazing talent with the guitar, I'd be playing all day, every day, all night, every night. ‘Stairway to Heaven’ is a Led-Zeppelin song which needs to be played with a depth of feeling and heart, over and above string skill, for it is a classic, after all, and you nailed it, young lady!
Literally, when I close my eyes and just listen to your playing, it sends chills up and down my spine. I’ve been a huge Zephead for almost all of my life and they’re my favorite band of all time, my favorite supergroup of all time.
What made Led-Zeppelin so special is that they were constantly changing things up from album to album and tour to tour, applying different playing styles each time and continually improvising during their live concerts.
Unlike some bands which are terrible live bands, those who replicate their songs exactly the same, note for note, in concert, just as they’d done within the studio, meaning that the experience is the same either way, either from home or at the venue, Zeppelin didn’t do that. As a matter of fact, their live music is infinitely better than their studio music.
I certainly enjoy listening to the studio versions of their songs, but the live versions of those songs were performed with such skill, passion, heart, and soul that it’d allowed those songs to fully bloom into fruition and blossom.
If you listen to the bootleg recordings of their live performances and tours, all throughout their career as a band, you’ll discover that they were continually morphing from one version of their performances and music into another. In between 1968 and 1971, the live performances of their songs were very raw, passionate, and loud, steaming directly at the audience like a runaway locomotive 🚂.
In between 1970 and 1973, they’d become more technical, precise, refined, and controlled with their live performances, with many fans considering 1973 to be the pinnacle of their skillful playing in concert.
From 1975 to 1977, they’d begun combining both of those playing styles together, culminating in their description of this style as being, ‘Fast, but Loose.’
Their live performances during these years combined the raw ferocity of their direct style of playing from early in their career (in between 1968 and 1971) with the technical and precise style of playing from the midway point of their career (in between 1971 and 1975).
Although their skillful playing was still very precise and ‘tight’ during their 1977 tour, this new style also allowed for much improvisation, as well, in being ‘loose.’
Hence, the ‘Tight, but Loose’ terminology that they’d incorporated and used to describe this new style of playing in concert. When they’d launched their ‘In Through the Outdoor’ tour, which ran in between 1979 and 1980, the emerging and ascendant punk rockers had considered the members of Led-Zeppelin to be old, broken down, and hapless musicians.
Billy idol had run into them in the studio while they were recording this album, prior to the launching of this tour, and had infamously derided the band members of Led-Zeppelin as all being “dinosaurs.” It goes without saying that Billy had eaten crow when Led-Zeppelin was accredited with saving the recording industry (from going into bankruptcy) by releasing their album, ‘In Through the Outdoor.’
In recognizing that their fans and the music industry were redirecting their attention and allegiance away from the standard of rock toward that of punk rock, Led-Zeppelin had realized that they’d need to change with the times.
As a result, in order to accommodate this change of preference toward punk rock, and its wild, frenetic, and in your face approach toward its music, performances, and fans, the members of Led-Zeppelin had stripped away the loose, improvisational nature of their previous tour, slapped a new coat of paint upon their musical catalogue, and turbo charged their songs and performances with an edgier, frenetic, muscular, and streamlined sound.
They’d not only repainted, refurbished, and relaunched the zeppelin, they’d also installed a brand new shiny chrome engine within it that had then allowed it to reach new heights and speeds.
Although their fans were expecting this most recent (and last) tour to be the same as the previous tour had been, with lots of indulgent improvisation occurring during the concert performances, the members of Led-Zeppelin had surprised their fans with this new lean, clean, and full of steam approach to performing their songs live.
Once again, the members of Led-Zeppelin had beaten the odds and naysayers which were aligned against them, setting a new example and standard in all ways possible for others to follow.
It goes without saying that your performance of ‘Stairway to Heaven’ meets that last standard which was set by Led-Zeppelin during their last concert tour of 1979-1980.
Bravo, Sophie, for a job well done in delivering to us this brilliant performance of yours, for it was magnificent.
