My dad always adored led zeppelin. He passed on his taste of music to me at a young age. Last Wednesday he passed away peacefully in his bed, surrounded by his family, and we played stairway to heaven. Miss you dad.
Same here! Almost exactly the same which is weird. But my dad passed in 2012. It gets easier I promise, you’ll always miss him but the pain lessens with time 💕 stay strong
So sorry for your loss, Ben. It's very painful for some time, but step by step, day by day, you start to move on. You start to laugh and smile again. Like Mak said, it does get easier.
My sister was probably 15 when she bought the vinyl in the mid 70's and tragically passed away in 78'. My parents gave me her album and I love every song. Still listen to it on my record player.
I kid you not, this song and the Pink Floyd Album Dark side of the moon, the first time I heard them - I definitely had this wild deja vu like damn Ive heard this hundreds of time before.

You always have a choice. Choose the one that leads to heaven, not hell.

@@olijackson2800 I'm 16 and I feel the same way man! I'm glad our younger generations are listening to well made, well thought out music, moving music!
My Grandfather absolutely loved Led Zeppelin. Whenever me or my siblings were in the car with him and this song came on, he always told us that this was the greatest song of all time. He passed away 7 December 2021. Now every time I hear this song or any Zeppelin song, I'm convinced that he put it on for me. Rest easy, Grandpa. I'll keep getting the Led out for you.
I'm sorry your Grandpa had to go. It's so odd for me to know exactly what I was doing the day he died, but December 7th is my brother's birthday, and at one point in the morning that day I was sitting out back on the patio sending him a long, brotherly text. And I remember thinking that I never forget his birthday partly because it's also Pearl Harbor Day. Now I will never forget that it's the day that Mitchell's Grandpa passed on. Kind thoughts to you, friend. Grandpa has climbed the stairway, huh? As a grandpa myself, I can assure you too that he loved you and the others in a way that was multiplied even from how he loved his own children. Kids are great, but grandchildren are great+++ because as we (that's you too) get older and closer to the "stairway", we reflect more and more on the only way we can live on here on Earth...through you. Peace.
The great thing about long rock songs is, usually, it's not 8 long minutes of hard rock. It's a journey, a slow path up to the top, a song that takes the time not because it wants more rock, but because it NEEDS the time to have the proper buildup. Songs like this take their time because the crescendo wouldn't be the same without the slow, building melody that creates it. In other words, you'll always need to build that stairway if you want to truly make it to heaven.
Great music, nay all great art, is like great sex. Enjoy the journey instead of rushing to the destination. This _contrast_ makes us appreciate the totality of the experience.
I’m a nurse who used to take care of ICU patients. This song reminds me of a patient I had. When we removed his life support, his family requested we listen to rock music because it was his favorite. He finally passed to this song. I’ll never forget them.
My dad assed from cancer almost 3 yrs ago. As I would take of him this song came on the radio. He told me when he passed when I hear the song it’s him saying hi. I cry all the time. I miss him dearly. Wish heaven had a phone. 😢
I remember the first time hearing this song when I was about 6 or 7 years old. It's a very special song to me because it was playing on the radio in my dad's truck when we were out I believe on a Friday evening.
@@EmersonPUSA Yeah, imagine if Jimmy Page came into the guitar store one day... being able to witness the epic transformation of expression on the face the guitar store employee, from rage to astonishment after realizing who he's listening to, would be even more hilarious, no?

He's one of the few people I look up to, and I appreciate him for persevering for as long as he did even though things kept getting worse and worse for him and I. Well they have no clue what great music this is it's a timeless classic. I remember in high school chorus some got to choose songs to preform live & my classmate & his band chose this song after they were done with their performance the school stood shocked cuz they didn't know what to make of it. Well I started yelling & clapping & told Wes that him & his band did such a great job. People need to broaden their horizons & not be so uptight & enjoy awesome music

I'm no drummer, I actually play guitar. But when I heard this song for the first time somewhere between 15 to 20 years ago, it was the DRUMS that got me into it. This is exactly the way rock should sound on drums: subtle but open and with lots of feeling and presence. Bohnam was huge! a true master of the art.

There's no word to truly describe the beauty and meaning of this song's lyrics. It makes me wonder how Led Zeppelin could write this. These lyrics are mysterious and only the feeling can help me understand the true meaning of this song

And from 5:34 to about 6:44 ladies and gentlemen is why Jimmy Page is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Lots of musicians can make a guitar talk, but only a select few can make it sing. As if this song is 50 years old '71-2021 its aged absolutely beautifully and to me it still feels like its ahead of its time even today. People have been inspired by its composition and it will be celebrated by future generations for another 50 years and more 🤘
Too bad they chose to create a generic video for the song. I would have loved to see more clips of the band members when they were younger around the time this song was being created. Yea, I know they like to sell that type of stuff to fans, but this is an official video for one of their premier songs for godsakes. It should have top tier video footage to go along with the song.
My papa listened to this song a lot, he was one of the people who raised me. I lost him a little over a year ago now due to a broken heart a month after my grandmother. My dad mentioned I should learn to play this on guitar to make him proud. I’m just a beginner, but I will. No doubt.
Today, one year ago, my father passed away, he loved Led Zeppelin so much, he used to try and record it from the radio in the late 80' and got angry as the Moderator spoke. I can't believe he's gone, but I listen to this music and he is with me, I feel it.
I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin. It wasn't until I was older that I came to understand the message in Stairway to Heaven. It is possibly the greatest song ever written; it altered the landscape of rock and roll. Written by Robert Plant, whose voice leads us on the journey through seamless instrumental brilliance that's both delicate and thunderous, he tells a story of materialism and spiritualism, of faith, doubt, and the eternal quest for something greater than ourselves. He invites us to seek enlightenment and spiritual fulfillment, but we can only get there together, in unity. Stunning.
This song has had a transcendent effect on MILLIONS, GENERATIONS, for 50 years and counting. It defined a generation, an era of tremendous musical talent, that many would try to emulate years later. I wouldn't be surprised if it's still being listened to hundreds of years from now such as the works of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven. And now, Led Zeppelin joins that list. That's how much of a masterpiece this is! 🕊 Love.✌

Each era claims its own timeless classics. The works of Mozart and Beethoven are celebrated not just as classical music, but as eternal masterpieces. Likewise, Stairway to Heaven transcends the label of classic rock; it embodies the depth, complexity, and emotional resonance of true classical music. It’s a modern symphony that has woven itself into the fabric of musical history-one of the defining classical pieces of our time

This is not a song, it`s an anthem of Rock, performed by the Gods of Rock. I fell in love with this in 1971, at the age of 15 and here I am, 53 years later still very much in love with it. It will outlive us all. When the last star goes out, the last sound in the Universe will be Robert Plant, singing those final few words.
They were heavily influenced by the Lord of the Rings, as they were huge fans of the books. You can hear hints of it in this song. 'In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees, and the voices of those who stand looking.' The rings of smoke coming from Isengard as the Ents watch Saruman's forces cut down and burn the forest, including other Ents.
It's such a great point. Look at the bands around then and the talent that just oozed from them and lasted for decades. I still have no idea how it's even possible. Oh yeah, this guy Jimmy popped over from band named the Birds or whatever. Where in the heck did he get his talent and ability the first day The Yardbirds played together. It is and always will be mind blowing. RIP JB

The potion to heal broken hearts and broken souls. I was in love with Robert Plant! That love got me through an otherwise impossible adolescence. Yes, you always have two roads to go by. You always have a choice. Choose the one that leads to heaven, not hell.

Peace.

This is truly the one of the best songs ever written
My dad passed away December 2019 and when asked what his favorite song was, he said it was this. I come back here to feel close to him.
Не забывай своего дедушку. Светлая ему память. Я тожк очень люблю эту песню и исполнителей.
This comment needs to be seen by way more people. It's accurate, insightful, and applies perfectly to this song and songs just like it.

I was born in 2002, but my dad who grew up in the 80's and raised me on rock. When I was a kid I remember loving when led zeppelin or queen would come on and he would get really into it and drum on the steering wheel. And now when I listen to them, I not only appreciate the beautiful music, but also reflect on the good times I had with my dad as a kid, love you
"Stairway To Heaven"
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to Heaven
There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, makes me wonder
Ooh, makes me wonder
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
Oh-oh-oh-oh-whoa
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed, now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder
Oh, whoa
Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven
Thanks mate!!

This is timeless, one of the best songs from a great era of music. My son (38) has always envied the music my generation had in our youth.

Stunning.
There are songs that leave a mark on your soul and this is one of them, a total masterpiece!

It’s a modern symphony that has woven itself into the fabric of musical history-one of the defining classical pieces of our time
The best way to describe this music:
It's like drinking water in the middle of the night when you wake up thirsty.
waking up at 5 am before the sun rises to catch fish
getting to see your best friend after a long time
Drinking water right after waking up is disgusting. Something about the stagnant saliva in my mouth or whatever.

This is not a song, it`s an anthem of Rock, performed by the Gods of Rock. I fell in love with this in 1971, at the age of 15 and here I am, 53 years later still very much in love with it. It will outlive us all. When the last star goes out, the last sound in the Universe will be Robert Plant, singing those final few words.

actually every musical masterpiece was created by mainly people in their 20s - creativity goes bye bye as you age
