Also to go off of what yall are saying about "why remake it" yall are exactly right. It is a new dawn and a new generation. The live action aspect is to make the viewers experience the emotions of the actors and the animals in the best way they understand it; with real and/or realistic human expression. You see an animals eyes raise, you know they heard/saw something.
same i love it, it's curing my inner child honestly. my dad never understood why i was so attached to movies and we could never get along or have a deeper connection until i left home. seeing these men who look a lot how my dad does absolutely adore films is so healing.
The thing that made me accept this movie wholeheartedly was hearing that the original creator and director was doing the live action version! I knew that there was no way the same person would make the same movie without an amazing reason… this trailer gave me that reason!!!

I saw a lot of comments like this on Reddit. When I saw this trailer, that was the last question on my mind. But I guess that the majority of the world is so used to getting bad live action adaptations that there's just a negative response by default to any kind of project. I personally haven't had a lot of experience with any good or bad live action adaptations that may have come before, but for this one I'm pumped. I see that the scene with meeting Toothless has been done justice, I hear Test Drive, I see that the original director of the animated film is directing this so there's already an unmatched level of love being put into it. And I'm all for it.
The actor as Hiccop gave a great performance in The Black Phone, which is what launched his career. He was a kid in there, hes 17 now. I think you guys reacted to that film, it had Ethan Hawke.
In that close up of toothless you finished on, I can tell they really paid attention to making sure the scales look realistic and not perfect shiny looking , closer up they actually have some texture and even looks like dryness on his scales on his face .
I don't mind at all. She definitely looks like she has fair skin in the BTS. Honestly, I just want to enjoy a great FICTION movie featuring my favorite character, Toothless. That's what really matters to me.

I grew up on these. I can’t wait to roll up to theaters to experience it all again with a massive box of tissues. This is the closest I’ll ever get to being able to experience HTTYD for the first time again, which is its own form of magic

The only thing I have against live-action remakes/adaptations of animated stuff is the fact that a lot of people don't appreciate and give enough credit to animation as a medium. Just as an example see what Arcane has been doing, animation has more creative freedom than live-actions. That being said, I was skeptical of this decision, but knowing that the same director is involved in this, and Toothless has the exact same design, it makes me want to support the idea. So I'm interested in it because of the people behind it and the care and passion they put into it, not for nostalgia (I fell in that well with the lion king) and the money laundry that other companies tend to. 🐭 Which btw, Oak, I love you my man, but the live-action lion king was soulless and can't even compete with the 1994 original movie.

I know the live action is never gonna surpass the original but I’m at least glad there’s effort being put into the movies’ set design, characters and dragon design. All I’m really excited for is the remastered score which I’m certain John Powell is going to absolutely nail.

However, the director Dean DeBlois (who also directed the animated film, so it’s awesome to have him return), has reassured that this will be an “adaptation” of this story, not a replication. So expect some changes. Obviously, the core narrative is gonna be the same, but with some changes and/or twists not in the original film. I’m hyped. This teaser did exactly what a teaser should do (other films take note). Love that Gerard is back, Dean is returning to direct HIS story, I can easily see Mason as Hiccup, and that theme sounds as good as ever. I’m not the biggest fan of this trend of live-adapting animated classics, BUT I am optimistic about this one.
Thank god they are as respectful to the Astrid character as Snow White in the upcoming Disney Snow White by casting an actress of colour as a VIKING!!! Now, sarcasm off.

While the trailer looks incredible and I will likely see this, my *only* problem with any remakes is that they are a majority of what comes out lately. I guess for me, it is harder to become excited if I’m not seeing anything that feels new. As for that take on the Lion King remake…wholly disagree 😅 they watered down the best song from Scar (made space for Beyoncé to have a solo number), and while the lions looked hyper realistic…that also took away from the emotion. I think in a way if you’re going to remake an animated movie with animals, that was not the right route. I would say this one for HTTYD is a stronger choice because you have more range and creative freedom with a mythological creature like dragons. In a “live action” remake, you can still make them expressive. I do believe this one will go BEYOND the Lion King remake for sure.

I'm sure the movie won't be shot for shot of the original or what's the point of a remake. But for a teaser trailer you want to showcase certain scenes from the original to get the nostalgia to build the hype for the new movie. The first meeting of Hiccup and Toothless is that and show the quality of the CGI of the dragon.

The Director wanted to make this in Live Action originally, but was unable to. It's the same Director from the Trilogy. He Created, Wrote, and Directed the Trilogy, and this!!!
Fun fact this toothless is a remastered toothles, the original original book toothless was a tiny green dragon, those little buggers you see around are a dedicated reference and Easter egg to the original book toothless!
I really don't care that they pulled a Disney, and made a live action version of an animated feature. But a really great CGI Toothless and Gerard Butler playing Stoic.
“What are they gonna make him yellow or something?” I mean he’s tiny and green in the books so there was always the possibility that they could’ve went that route with it.
I don't mind some variation in live action remakes, but there are always *certain* iconic scenes that I want to be as close as possible. The ones that give you chills or say "oh my god" outloud
I wish they put more effort into making things how they actually look in the animated series. some actors look like the opposite of their characters (like snotlot's actor is a tall, very skinny actor but snotlot is meant to be a short, buff guy) they also didn't put as much effort into matching toothless's expressions and his mannerism. for one example, the expressions make him look like a scared puppy in the scene they meet, but he should be looking scary with intimidating eyes. I also doubt they'll be able to recreate certain scenes like the intense flying scenes with hiccup and toothless well, probably mid cgi.

I think I might be the only one that really likes the shot by shot I wish they were going that route but I don’t think they are. When they change it up it just doesn’t make sense to me. Anyway, the visual so far in the teaser stunning. I’m actually really excited for this I’m sure the director will deliver since he’s the original from the animated movie. I love the music it got me emotional.
I think the only thing that takes me slightly out of it (but not enough to not ant to see it) is the fact that Jay Baruchel has such an icconic voice that worked wonders for the role. My hope is that Mason Thames can do well not having that voice.
I'm in the same camp as you are I'm giving this a shot. I'm so glad that they didn't change toothless just added a different green to his eye colour. This film releases in cinemas June 13th less than a month (May 22nd 2025) that Universal Orlando opens Epic Universe which just so happens happens to have the Isle of Berk (httyd land) inside the theme park. I don't think that this is a coincidence either. If you guys haven't checked out what Universal Studios in Orlando is doing for httyd for epic universe you guys should check it out.

Ppl being afraid of this being the copy paste of the animated film based on this teaser only is kinda absurd. Ofc in the teaser they use some iconic shots and scenes from the animated film so i do think these moments to reflect the magic of the animated one might be very closely framed as it was in the animation but having thr same director back for this one i feel like he will expand some things more in the live action movie

Fun fact this toothless is a remastered toothles, the original original book toothless was a tiny green dragon, those little buggers you see around are a dedicated reference and Easter egg to the original book toothless!
I really don't care that they pulled a Disney, and made a live action version of an animated feature. But a really great CGI Toothless and Gerard Butler playing Stoic.

I don't mind some variation in live action remakes, but there are always *certain* iconic scenes that I want to be as close as possible. The ones that give you chills or say "oh my god" outloud
I wish they put more effort into making things how they actually look in the animated series.
some actors look like the opposite of their characters (like snotlot's actor is a tall, very skinny actor but snotlot is meant to be a short, buff guy)
they also didn't put as much effort into matching toothless's expressions and his mannerism. for one example, the expressions make him look like a scared puppy in the scene they meet, but he should be looking scary with intimidating eyes.
I also doubt they'll be able to recreate certain scenes like the intense flying scenes with hiccup and toothless well, probably mid cgi.
Apart from from a few actors...seeing production leaks, hit and miss??😢

I think I might be the only one that really likes the shot by shot I wish they were going that route but I don’t think they are. When they change it up it just doesn’t make sense to me. Anyway, the visual so far in the teaser stunning. I’m actually really excited for this I’m sure the director will deliver since he’s the original from the animated movie. I love the music it got me emotional.
I think the only thing that takes me slightly out of it (but not enough to not ant to see it) is the fact that Jay Baruchel has such an icconic voice that worked wonders for the role. My hope is that Mason Thames can do well not having that voice.

This film releases in cinemas June 13th less than a month (May 22nd 2025) that Universal Orlando opens Epic Universe which just so happens happens to have the Isle of Berk (httyd land) inside the theme park. I don't think that this is a coincidence either. If you guys haven't checked out what Universal Studios in Orlando is doing for httyd for epic universe you guys should check it out.

I have nothing against no one in this world, but leave it like it nust be, dont make Astrid another culture! Also, the twins are nothing like twins.. and ask my self: why? Are they really no blonde nordisc actor aout there? No twins (male and female) that look alike? For thr rest, im pumpeeeeed!!

Ppl being afraid of this being the copy paste of the animated film based on this teaser only is kinda absurd. Ofc in the teaser they use some iconic shots and scenes from the animated film so i do think these moments to reflect the magic of the animated one might be very closely framed as it was in the animation but having thr same director back for this one i feel like he will expand some things more in the live action movie
