Hate it, it’s appears it’s gonna be a shot for shot remake, the race swaps making no sense, hiccup not looking like a dork, along with the twins looking nothing alike.
@DazzReviews - I'm just hoping that DreamWorks doesn't go crazy like Disney and live-action-ize their own animation film catalogue; although, one shudders to think of live-action "Bad Guys". =(
We all love animated toothless, but if they’re making a realistic version of it, they could at least do a little redesign of him, keeping his main essence
It reminds me of that live action leak imagesl of back(if u know u know) then 😂 takes me back wen i wanted to see it in live action and now here we are
Another classic added to the "movies that don't need a remake" list as well as the "cartoon that doesn't need to be live action" list. Literally the first movie is perfect as it is.
Honestly, Toothless and the other dragons do look amazing in this style, but I still don't think this the right direction for Dreamworks to go in. Pretty obvious, but still.
I don't understand why Toothless looks the exact same. It completely defeats the point of being live action if the dragons just look exactly the same and not realistic at all.
My problem is that the whole HTTYD world is animated. Not just the 3 films, but all the spin off shows which I remember watching religiously after school. This is not a HBO Harry Potter remake situation, the whole charm of it was that it was animated. What new, creative and charming things can they do in live action, compared to the limitless possibilities of animation. I just ... don't want it.
"I just don't want it" Buddy they don't even KNOW you nor do they give a FUCK about what you want 🤣🤣🤣 The fact you actually think they're catering to ONLY you is pathetic. Seek immediate Therapy.
You might not want it but some people do. Like me. Its much better than that rinky dink nine realms show. (Also…how do you watch HTTYD religiously…? They believe in Valhalla or whatever soo im confused)
It's not just the live-action parts that look fan-made. The entire trailer does. If someone told me that it was a fan project, I'd probably believe it. We've got people over here who can do CGI like that
That line fits his personality actually. If the Minecraft movie didn't exist, and they made live action movie where Po says "I.. am kung fu panda/the dragon warrior" I wouldn't bat an eye.
I kind of want to see it in live action, actually. It gives people another view of the first movie's story, which I already love. Plus from the look of it, the live action part of it doesn't look too bad!
This live-action will earn tonnes of money due to people's curiosity to see what they'll do to HTTYD1 after 13 years. Money is the answer + new theme park of Universal
@ all live actions are copy’s of the og so it’ll be the same and it looks like it’ll be the same which I’m glad since people usually want the movie to come to life not a whole different story
I think they should work more on furthering the HTTYD main timeline (ignoring the nine blasphemies) and do something in that area instead of doing live action remakes... but I would rather it be a beat for beat realized version of the first one than a story changer because I do not want to see the backstory getting shaken up
I’m just happy the dragon designs look so good! I was extremely worried they’d make them hyper realistic and make them look soulless. But they didn’t! Toothless looks perfect! He has emotions in his eyes! They made him accurate to the original movie, while making him look real! I love the attention to detail, and I’m happy about that!
The hate isn’t about the art style I’m not sure where you go that notion, the problem is this movie happening my in the first place. Every single film company has just been shitting out live action remakes of old successful animations instead of focusing on making new original content. We have gotten a live action Ariel, Snow White, lion king, Aladin, Peter Pan and now How to Train your Dragon. And ever single one of those movies has been utter crap, no reason to expect at any different from this one
@@CalebCox-y6t Actually I do see why people hate on it because the animated version is just better and it always will be better compared to live action. And I just want to see original films for once not a remake sequels or spin-off movies all the time. And they are just milking it for money. I am not spreading negativity to you I'm just frustrated on the state of Hollywood.
@samueluddin9931 I mean Universal Studios has been doing really well this year with movies, so it's very left field that there now making live adaptations of films that aren't that old.
@@PrestonDCox You know what it is? In 2025, universal has epic universe coming out in the Summer. So they probably spent this much money to inject a bit of adrenaline into the franchise.
I mean this as no hate to the actor for Hiccup, I think this was more of a direction problem, but it feels like he's trying too hard to emulate exactly what his animated counterpart did in the og. It's particularly noticeable in the scene where he first gets to touch toothless' nose: he looks away a little too sharply and reacts a little too... exaggerated? if that makes sense
Yeah, I see it too. It feels like they are just going through the motions, and all subtlety is gone. I'm curious what Stoick will do when he is done yelling at Hiccup. In the original he recoils, but like you said everything is being exaggerated now.
@@protosopic6398 The original is jam packed full of micro expressions in most scenes that tell so much more story than many realise. It's going to be real hard for these actors/directors to be able to recreate that with sincerity.
I will not be paying to supporting this. If they wanted to make something new in Live-Action that would be one thing. But I'm SICK of these CEOs doing the minimum. Betting on "cash making" stories instead of supporting creativity. This industry does not exist just for cash. I hate this so much.
It’s so unutterably LAZY I can’t stand it. The fact that it’s a shot for a shot exact remake, the fact that the dragons look exactly copy pasted the same, the music is exactly the same, and the costumes are mid… It looks like a fan video from some guy who’s pretty good at Photoshop. Not like a blockbuster from the same studio that brought us Harry Potter. How the mighty have fallen. Absolutely will not be watching it. Not to mention the fantastical subject matter of the movie simply works better in animation. They were so lazy, they not only couldn’t make an original story, but they also couldn’t even do anything original with an old story! They just made an _exact copy_ of an already perfect movie, and made it WORSE.
@@glitchedeyesi mean yeah its gonna be fine. Its copying an already successful story in all but the way its presented. But they couldve made an original story. Use that time and money for new ideas and characters. This is lazy because they arent taking any risks. Theres absolutely zero innovation. If i want to watch httyd i can just go to the original movie. The only thing this movie gives is ‘what if httyd but realisticc’ its boring.
@ - you know, I’m torn between agreeing with you and not. I do like for people to just enjoy things. But on the other hand, when people enjoy unoriginal sequel and remake stuff like this, Hollywood never stops making them, because it’s an endless cash cow for them, and they don’t HAVE to be original or make any good new stories. _That’s_ extremely disappointing.
Even if I agree with you I would still watch it anyway because of how much I loved the old movies to see how it turns out. There isn’t really a point to complaining.
@@jamesonweaver4224 Dean Deblois (one of the original directors of HTTYD along with Chris Sanders) used to be against live action remakes... And now he's doing one himself. I can't remember exactly what he said in the clip, but I think that might be part of what op is referring to. Edit: I found the clip! It's within a much longer video reviewing The Nine Realms (the video's by Audrey Greywind), so I'll just put what Dean said here if anyone's interested. "So my feeling is that I'm not really interested in them. I haven't seen many of them [live action remakes]. They're made by capable filmmakers and I don't want to disparage any of the talents or the hard work that went into them. I just think that it's lazy on the part of the studio. I think it's easy to go back to something that was successful that a really talented team put a lot of years and hard work into and then redo it without changing what worked. That, to me, is a missed opportunity to put something original into the world that people years from now are gonna cite as such a pivotal movie to them and one that really meant a lot [to them]. So there are a lot of misfires in filmmaking and not every film can be an indelible classic, but it seems like a missed opportunity to take a budget like that that's required to do a live action remake of an animated movie and then pour it all into it. I would rather see something original."
Visually, I'm impressed. Like I thought they would butcher it badly or go over the top with the designs but it looks just like the dragons I saw when I was a kid. I'm still worried for the story though. If it's a retelling of the exact same story with no changes then I won't be happy nor upset. But if they actually change up some of the story and still put their hearts into it while making it good, then I will be happy. Hoping for the best since it's one of my favorite franchises that I still watch as an adult.
My thoughts as well. Curious to see if they are gonna make some changes to the story, I do like how the dragon's designs here. I will say it is a rather risky move considering how Disney give Live action remake a bad reputation. Let's see how Dreamworks deals with this one
In all honesty, even though the remake will clearly look on point with the animated HTTYD movie. I for one still don't have high hopes for this live action remake, Because it won't have the same spirit or level of atmosphere as the animated version. I mean I'm willing to see where it goes, But still.
everything these days doesn't have the same spirit or level of atmosphere from 2010, and that's because we grew up with the classics of that era, this doesn't apply to the kids of this era tho
Tbh, if Its gonna just be a live action copy of the movie, i wont mind it, at least its still Nice to watch, i just Hope we wont have another Disney remake scenario with raceswapping and girlbossing
So far it's looking to be good, but I hope this doesn't become the norm, unlike a certain other studio... The whole live action thing threw me for a loop, because it wasn't actually needed. Even if it does turn out well, why can't we just... leave things alone? I'd really hate to see a live action Kung Fu Panda or Shrek, or heck, even Trolls, because that's not the direction DreamWorks should be heading in.
so what if it is "good", its not doing anything difficult. the story is already there, the characters are already loved, the soundtrack is already amazing. what is Powell going to do here that he hasn't already done? we finished this series, and the third movie was honestly not very good. but it was over. it does not matter how good it is, there is no reason other than money. what passion is there from one to one recreating your own property in a live action format?
If this movie became successful. It will, take it for sure. And we will have dreamworks going in the same path as Disney….. and probably illumination will also do it eventually.
Sidenote, there's a HTTYD stage play called Untrainable, and the dragon animatronics there look amazing, almost 1:1 to the movies but actually in real life. Imagine if the movie got similar practical effects.
There's a pic of her on reddit in full costume and if that picture is to be believed then its going to be another shit show. I already feel bad for the actress, it's not her fault.
What I'm hoping now is they've cut astrid apart from cameos to align better with the books. It's a fairly vain hope since practically everything in the trailer is a carbon copy of the animated movie; but maybe there are more book-inspired elements than it seems.
It's funny how so many people are praising this when they don't seem to realize it's the exact same thing as the Disney remakes. They just don't realize it cause it's a different studio, but it's the same flashy cheap trick that we've come to recognize with Disney.
Imagine if movies got remastered graphics like games do, stuff like hand drawn 2d will obviously not support this, but projects like Toy Story could legitimately convert all their model rigging to their new animation programs, and touch up on all the flair. This is perhaps the easiest and criminally overlooked avenues for decades old studios, I can't think of a single time it's been done. Revitalizing old films can also build hype for continuations, just like how the Half Life 2 patch reignites hype for HL3, as it shows care going into their franchise!
I’m just glad Toothless looks good, although he feels a bit less expressive than his animated counterpart but at the same time he looks exactly like what I imagined he’d look like in real life so…nice! I hope the other dragons look this good. He actually feels like a wild animal like in the first movie.(I’m still pissed they made him look more domesticated in the third, he shouldn’t, the other dragons still looked wild!)
Right?! I thought so too. Almost no one knows the actual book story and its so freaking different. But I guess toothless wouldnt be flashy and Hiccup not genius enough.😢
Can we boycot these corporations and yell at them we want originals animations and not remake lives. I know they need to make money but I hate seeing our best resourced companies become trash productions for a machine rather than something thats more like art. Animation just does things real life can’t and is just as special. Have some guts to explore stories and new concepts not mass market what you think we want…..huff rant over….off to find chocolate.
Bro, why does Hiccup look so mature & older, i know his actor Mason Thames is 17 technically, still a teen yes, but he looks much older. It's throwing me off since Hiccup in the first film is supposed to be 14/15 according to sources online & wikis. He's seems more fitted as a Hiccup in the 2nd movie
Damnit! They're basically pulling a TLK 2019 with this one! Seriously, it's unnecesarry to remake a beloved classic into live-action! Well, at least they got Toothless right
the thing is the lion king was not was not a one for one and was not made by the same people this on the other hand is being made and acted out by old cast members and the original movie creator
Toothless looks incredible and also the director and others who worked on the animated trilogy are coming back to work on this live action film. I’m curious to see how it goes when it drops
@@Chantel000 Went making an adaptation from anything Fantasy .There needs to be a hint of realism with the outfits. It looks like straight up cosplay. There's plenty of videos and even essays explain why an outfit needs to have a hint of Realism.
I think the reason they made this movie was to pay homage to the original animation, which is completing 15 years old now. Or they are just trying to compete with disney in the live action side of things. But I am seeing this as a tribute.
Although this Toothless looks really good so far it's shot the same scene to scene from the animated one (like The Lion King) and I think it's supposed to pull the original fans with nostalgia and get new fans but it feels unnecessary. My biggest question is: WHY REMAKE A GREAT ANIMATED MOVIE IF IT'S THE EXACT SAME THING??? And no "money" should never be the answer! It's kind of like The Nine Realms and Rescue Riders. After that didn't do so well they went for a live-action remake instead of making more original series with the original characters. Or maybe a spin of series for some of the other characters like Heather, Dagur, Mala, Atali etc.
When this movie was announced I was hoping for a proper adaptation of the books instead of something regurgitating the animated movie again. But I suppose Night Fury Toothless is too marketable and so are a lot of the live action remakes Disney and Netflix were making so DreamWorks decided to follow suit. Toothless looks great like this but I don't think it's enough to sway me to watch it when the original animated movie is already so great as is.
Imo if the really wanted a riding dragon they could have just done a modified adaption of How to Twist a Dragons Tail. Or find some other way to work Windwalker in, I'm not too picky. Honestly I wouldn't have minded as much them using the animated Toothless design if it didn't look like they moved over literally everything else from the animated movie. They could have made a kind-of compromise between the two but the trailers seem to show that's not the case.
It's gonna suck when reaction videos to this movie drop, and it's just people who never even saw the animated version but are willing to watch this because it's "newer". The same thing happened with movies like The Lion King, some people never even saw the original but totally reacted to Disney's half-hearted "remake" anyway 💀
I was 5 when this movie came out so even the reason of “parents take their kids to the film because they liked it when they were a kid” doesn’t work unless the people were 10-15 when they saw it
The thing is, it looks good... but thats it. I really like that it seems like theyre sticking to the original story, but at the same time, why make this? Its gonna be like watching the old movie all over again.
I'm vehemently against the whole thing. As an animation student and a MASSIVE HTTYD fan, it honestly just makes me angry. There was genuinely no reason to make this movie other than money. It's the principle behind the Disney live action remakes: bank on nostalgia and regurgitate an animated movie into a pointless "grown up" film to make more money off the franchise. I don't know, it gives me the feeling that "oh, the original wasn't good enough for adults, here's CGI and real people." Animated family movies are for EVERYONE. If they wanted to keep making a profit off of the franchise, then re-release the original movie in theatres so a new generation can see it! And then og fans can see it in theatres! It feels gross to me. If they make a shot for shot remake, then what was the point? If they change things (like Disney does in their remakes), I can almost guarantee you it'll be worse than the original.
This one looks like they care unlike Disney and I do feel like this could be a good introduction for younger audiences to the How To Train Your Dragon movie series
Attention, lots of text Sometimes I think that people saw so much of the negative side of live action precisely because it was poorly made on Disney's part, and not because it was a """""remake""" (because in the case of httyd based on the director who is the same as the animated trilogy, not a remake), Because some remakes people didn't even complain about or thought they were bad in the sense of not being better than the animation in certain aspects, Lion King for example, they only spoke badly of the film, it wasn't because of the story. script or something like that because it was practically the same as the previous one, so there wasn't much to complain about, but the problem for the crowd was expression, and at some moments you could see them expressing in looks, dubbing, scenes, music not as vivid as the animation, and so on, If people don't complain about other live actions, it's because either the remake is of a bad movie, which gives hope for the remake to be better, or it's not a remake but an adaptation, which is something that should be happen here, since despite the scenes faithful to the animation, it is not a remake or adaptation of the animated trilogy, but rather another adaptation of the book, as if the director were adapting the book for the first time time, and being quite honest, it doesn't matter if it's going to be the same thing, since the point here is for the film to try to make you feel the same sensation you felt the day you watched or resisted the animated version.the first few times, besides seeing what this universe would be like adapted into a real world, where some people just don't like it, not because it's bad (for the love of god, the live action Toothless is so well done that for me it made the animation seem boring, besides being better than the Animatronic from the theater special which besides being well forgotten, NOBODY talks about it being useless to have a theater version since it is the same same story being retold on a stage), but yes because it brings a certain strangeness to people who have seen a lot of animation that only reaches that universe as animation and not as anything else, which is curiously different from other exemplary live actions that were so successful that no one seems to dare to say an A about them, like the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, "Godzilla", the first resident evil, one piece, but that's because some of these are adaptations of games, so who cares? Speaking of these other examples, one thing I also saw about why these adaptations are live action, it is not necessarily for a modern era, but rather to attract new audiences, which is something that worked quite well with One Piece, Sonic and Detective Pikachu. Of course, I also can't lie that it's really annoying when they change characters like in the case of Black Astrid, but again, it's not an adaptation of the animation, but of the book, and if they could change the the visual aspect of dragons like Toothless where in the book he is basically a terrifying terror with a tooth on his snout, so why not the characters? Not to mention that in real life, this thing about all Vikings being white, with the majority having blond hair and blue eyes, has already become a stereotype, since it was discovered that some had fair skin. darker, black hair, and even specimens with black skin, so her being black is not the problem for realistic fidelity, but for the fidelity of the animation or book, I think the important thing here is not about the visual aspect, but but rather about their professionalism, if they do it well, it's all good, you won't even care if it's black or not, but if it's really bad or poorly done, the problem isn't the lack of loyalty and yes, the work is not done with love. I personally give a little hope to this film, even with some concerns, and I think people should try to see it as a special event, and not as something that should be new, which speaking of which, waiting for something completely new and different can also be a problem, whether for an adaptation, remake or even a never-before-seen film, boss baby, trolls, zilla 98, are different and or new films, but... They are not good, besides that nothing is truly new and unique if we analyze it well, anyway, that's it, I vented (I hope I was a good engagement)
I dont care if percy jackson annabeth is black or any other ethnicity, she feels like a caricature. They dumbed down the character whos only power was being smart. And even if "nothing is truly new" it can still be different enough from what came before to be interesting. Who knows how many people with ideas for a story or interesring books were denied just to get another copy-paste movie out there. Its disheartening.
I don't like Toothless's design. Ik it's like "but it's the same design" it's not. They changed his literal head shape. As well as a few other characteristic features. I think my biggest gripe is in the original some scales were a bit bigger than others and created visual interest. This new design just looks super.. uniform and smooth. Tbh I'd have to see more to make my final judgement. It feels like they wanted to have their cake and eat it too.
Agreed. I keep noticing all the little things that just feel so off from the perfection of his animated design. The poster from the trailer video, for example, shows toothless with different back legs and some odd looking proportions.
Honestly I was quite disappointed that the live-action HTTYD will be a shot-for-shot adaptation of the original animated movie; theres not much innovation or any new storytelling, which makes this feel like a Disney live-action film rather than from Universal
They went the safe route and decided to do a shot for shot. “How can you hate a movie that is exactly the same as the animated” is what I’m imagining they are saying. So many people have different opinions on this but there was no one trying to push any boundaries here, it was just, stay as safe as possible. Boring.
I mean it is 14 years old. There are talks of a Moana live action remake and that's an 8 year old film at this point. Not defending the live action remake thing, just pointing out that it doesn't matter in the eyes of studio executives.
So now dreamworks are becoming Disney??? Honestly there’s no need to remake the film except to cash in and drive traffic to the new themed land at Epic Universe perhaps. The originals were already perfect in story and visuals.
I'm beyond frustrated at this, black Annabeth too. I don't have a problem with race, but it's not the original character, also these are vikings, I don't even know if there was very much African involvement with the Nordic regions (Berk was inspired by Scotland and the Faroe islands near Denmark, but is located by western Scotland)
@@thedidacthalo4167 Speedifist is clearly black in the original source material. In the animated movies Drago is obviously not white. My main problem with the casting is the fact Astrid exists at all. This was the chance to do a faithful adaption of the books, and in the books Astrid does not exist.
Why does everyone say it looks good in this style? Am I too critical? I've looked at it at least 10 times and am questioning my own perception right now, because I feel like it looks SO BAD? Toothless looks like he's from that old puppet dinosaurs series but CGI (bcs of course). Or like... idk a worm with wings? Am I the only one who feels this way? I've seen only positive comments up to this point. I'm not trying to hate, I'm just trying to find out if I'm just too used to the usual animation or sth.
Toothless model looks just like the original just with more texture lol they didn't even try to make changes on his proportions or anything. People just say it looks good bc it looks like the original
As much as I hate live action remakes, I at least have to give them credit for making Toothless actually look like himself and not making him totally ugly and uncanny
A LOT of this film was actually filmed in Northern Ireland, the one scene with Hiccup beside a ruin of a building, that's Dunluce Castle on the coast of Antrim, the Forest I believe is closer to Larne as they have an Owl Sanctuary there that my parents used to take me and my brother to as kids
I’m so surprised most people I’ve seen talking about toothless’s design love it 💀 like I’m a HUGE fan of the original trilogy and especially the first film as well as the tv shows, defenders of berk, riders of berk, and race to the edge, but Jesus Christ I think toothless looks crusty dusty ugly and washed out in the live action trailer. He looks so lifeless and emotionless. He’s neither cool nor cute. So disappointing. And the shots in the trailer at the least are shot-for-shot to the original. Why watch the live action when I can watch an already perfect film all around for free at home any time I want? I had high hopes for this film to at the very least LOOK decent, but… yea I’d just rather watch the original another hundred times. I don’t wanna give this money grab anything.
I do love Toothless and the other dragons designs because they look like their original designs but with more realistic details. But I don’t like the actor who’s playing Hiccup. His looks and voice seem like a completely different character to me. Also this is probably the first examples of why I find it pointless to remake computer animated movies into live action because almost every computer animated movie already looks realistic. It’s the same with the Moana live action remake, why remake an animated movie that already looks realistic but just replace animated characters with real people and animals that look to realistic to the point where they either can’t emote or look uncanny.
I don't mind them making it, but every single shot the trailer showed is exactly the same as the original movie, and if it's all going to be like that I don't see much point in it existing
I think it might end up being objectively better. When I watched the trailer I just thought that this was how it httyd was meant to be it just looked really good. but maybe I'm biased because I tend to prefer live action (especially fantasy) films over animated ones
as a huge HTTYD fan, I was super disappointed when i heard they were doing a live action remake. when i first saw the poster and the teaser, i legit thought they were fake cos they look like a lot of fan made stuff i have seen. also, something about the cgi Toothless just looks off. I am a huge fan of animation, and i hate that major film companies and moving away from it and doing stuff like this. I will probably watch this out of curiosity, but i will not be paying for a cinema ticket to do so
I hate everything about this. I don't want to see a live action HTTYD (or any originally animated movie, period). I like the style of the original movies. I just want some freaking new original stories. Apparently creativity is too much to ask for these days in the mainstream entertainment industry.
@@ThePrincessCHYeah. I mean for me I’m kind of excited because of how, Toothless looks. But I’m worried they are gonna add woke stuff. I don’t care if, Astrid is black, just don’t ruin my favourite movie with some weird gay stuff no one wants to see.
@@ThePrincessCH Well the productores said he IS gay, but I hope they don’t add it into the live action. If they add any gay stuff they are going to ruin the entire thing for me. I don’t support any LGBTQ. I don’t care if they make, Astrid black I just hope nothing gay comes in.
I thought they would try and revise the plot so that it would be unique, but it seems like nothing more than a reenactment. Lets hope this is like A Minecraft Movie where the second trailer is more interesting...
I'm also surprised they went for it, I thought Disney had shown it was a road to nowhere. Yes they had successes (even big ones) but.... for years these adaptations have been spinning off worse and worse - by that I mean financially, it can be a deterrent to investors.
I don't know about "road to nowhere." The "Lion King" remake was listed as the highest-grossing animated film of all time for a while despite being advertised as a live action remake.
@ThePrincessCH as i wrote: they had successes, even big ones like lion king. Yet, since then every other movie get worse, and worse box office score - to the point where it started to landing on "bearly profitable", so its road to nowhere: it can starting going high, but now its only straight to down
This is probably being made because to bring more eyes to the franchise for the opening of epic universe. Also, epic universe will be bringing over the untrainable stage show from universal bejing.
As a huge HTTYD fan, the first movie is my absolute favourite movie ever, this remake just seems very disappointing. I was honestly cautiosly excited for it, it seems like it'll just be the same scenes, but they look worse. Toothless I guess looks the closest you could get by making him as realistic as possible, but still looks very ugly imo. And why the piercing green eyes? The sort of grayish off green that his eyes are in the originals, looks much more realistic, or better if nothing else. I think they could've tried something different with him, I don't see what they gain by just putting an ultra realistic texture pack on him. Then Hiccup... he looks so conventionally attractive. They did the HTTYD2 treatment on him, took away all his freckles and his round face. He doesn't look like Hiccup at all. Sure, making changes to the appearance of the characters is fine as long as it works, but Hiccup is supposed to be a nerdy outcast; someone who proves himself important (by the lack of a better term), not by his looks, but by his intelligence, compassion and creativity. To make him look almost like a model with the cleanest face I've seen just doesn't sit right.
Yeah I’m sorry, I’m not on board with this 😑 I’ll admit the CGI and production looks decent enough and faithful to the source material. But the idea of making a live-action remake of a computer-animated movie is just wrong to me 😤
This movie is going to have to do a lot to justify it's existence so soon. By the looks of the trailer it's going to be pretty beat for beat which isn't a good idea. We saw Pokemon try to do beat for beat with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and they became the most hated games in the series. Yeah, different medium but it's a similar situation.
1:26 They've got Hicup's actual voice actor back???!!!!! Does that mean that the entire original voice cast is returning???? If so, count me in for the long run baby!!!!
Tell me - do you love this? Or do you hate it..?
I didn’t ask for it. 😂😂😂
Hate it, it’s appears it’s gonna be a shot for shot remake, the race swaps making no sense, hiccup not looking like a dork, along with the twins looking nothing alike.
@DazzReviews - I'm just hoping that DreamWorks
doesn't go crazy like Disney and live-action-ize
their own animation film catalogue; although,
one shudders to think of live-action "Bad Guys". =(
Im neutral right now
What could they add to a story that's already well-written?
Eh, it's ok? It kinda cracks me up that Toothless just looks like animated toothless with more textures. And it TOTALLY DOES LOOK LIKE A FAN FILM!
AGREED!!!! My thoughts exactly. 😭😭 Still can't tell if this is real or not.
We all love animated toothless, but if they’re making a realistic version of it, they could at least do a little redesign of him, keeping his main essence

I kind of want to see it in live action, actually. It gives people another view of the first movie's story, which I already love. Plus from the look of it, the live action part of it doesn't look too bad!
Then go watch the first movie no one on earth is stopping you and making this movie isn’t gonna ruin the original

I know the answer is money, but why are they copying Disney? They had years of being shown what not to do.
Those Disney movies made money in spite of criticism so yeah who cares

@@Chantel000 exactly

I’m just happy the dragon designs look so good! I was extremely worried they’d make them hyper realistic and make them look soulless. But they didn’t! Toothless looks perfect! He has emotions in his eyes! They made him accurate to the original movie, while making him look real! I love the attention to detail, and I’m happy about that!

My only gripe is toothless’s eyes look a bit too dark for me
I had the same thoughts, but now that I've seen them, they're great! They even have more species than in the original scene 👍

Not to mention the fantastical subject matter of the movie simply works better in animation.
They were so lazy, they not only couldn’t make an original story, but they also couldn’t even do anything original with an old story! They just made an _exact copy_ of an already perfect movie, and made it WORSE.

I think a major point for the atmosphere will be how the characters look when riding the dragons, looking forward to the test drive scene
That's my fear. If it does well financially you know the CEOs will love it even if audiences hate it.
so what if it is "good", its not doing anything difficult. the story is already there, the characters are already loved, the soundtrack is already amazing. what is Powell going to do here that he hasn't already done? we finished this series, and the third movie was honestly not very good. but it was over. it does not matter how good it is, there is no reason other than money. what passion is there from one to one recreating your own property in a live action format?
I fuckn hate live adaptations
If this movie became successful. It will, take it for sure. And we will have dreamworks going in the same path as Disney….. and probably illumination will also do it eventually.

Toothless here basically is the same as the animated one just bigger- and more textured
If he was more "real" you would cry he looks ugly or something
Sidenote, there's a HTTYD stage play called Untrainable, and the dragon animatronics there look amazing, almost 1:1 to the movies but actually in real life.
Imagine if the movie got similar practical effects.
Astrid is suspiciously absent from this trailer. I smell controversy.
They know people have short attention spans. People will complain but still see the movie. Smh.
I would rather see an visually improved version of the first than this sh1t ngl
now that would actually be pretty cool. I'd love to see my favorite older films remastered lol
A live action HTTYD would've been so much cooler if they told a new story that was much closer to the plot of the original books.
The actor took the role when he was 15; the time cannot be cheated.
Hiccup is fifteen in HTTYD 1, Goober remarks in HTTYD 2 that it's been five years, and Hiccup's twenty, suggesting he was fifteen in the first

My biggest question is:
WHY REMAKE A GREAT ANIMATED MOVIE IF IT'S THE EXACT SAME THING???
1:17 he pointed it out now I can’t unsee the fact that it looks like a fan video
Same thing as with all the others. Even if it is literally perfectly adapted, I'd rather watch the original again.
I was 5 when this movie came out so even the reason of “parents take their kids to the film because they liked it when they were a kid” doesn’t work unless the people were 10-15 when they saw it
HTTYD is officially Hiccup & the Thousand Year Door.
I don't know, it gives me the feeling that "oh, the original wasn't good enough for adults, here's CGI and real people."
Animated family movies are for EVERYONE.
WHAT ARE THEY EVEN DOING ANYMORE
Puss In Boots The Last Wish was indeed a flash in the bottle.
This one looks like they care unlike Disney and I do feel like this could be a good introduction for younger audiences to the How To Train Your Dragon movie series
Attention, lots of text
Sometimes I think that people saw so much of the negative side of live action precisely because it was poorly made on Disney's part, and not because it was a """""remake""" (because in the case of httyd based on the director who is the same as the animated trilogy, not a remake), Because some remakes people didn't even complain about or thought they were bad in the sense of not being better than the animation in certain aspects, Lion King for example, they only spoke badly of the film, it wasn't because of the story. script or something like that because it was practically the same as the previous one, so there wasn't much to complain about, but the problem for the crowd was expression, and at some moments you could see them expressing in looks, dubbing, scenes, music not as vivid as the animation, and so on, If people don't complain about other live actions, it's because either the remake is of a bad movie, which gives hope for the remake to be better, or it's not a remake but an adaptation, which is something that should be happen here, since despite the scenes faithful to the animation, it is not a remake or adaptation of the animated trilogy, but rather another adaptation of the book, as if the director were adapting the book for the first time time, and being quite honest, it doesn't matter if it's going to be the same thing, since the point here is for the film to try to make you feel the same sensation you felt the day you watched or resisted the animated version.the first few times, besides seeing what this universe would be like adapted into a real world, where some people just don't like it, not because it's bad (for the love of god, the live action Toothless is so well done that for me it made the animation seem boring, besides being better than the Animatronic from the theater special which besides being well forgotten, NOBODY talks about it being useless to have a theater version since it is the same same story being retold on a stage), but yes because it brings a certain strangeness to people who have seen a lot of animation that only reaches that universe as animation and not as anything else, which is curiously different from other exemplary live actions that were so successful that no one seems to dare to say an A about them, like the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, "Godzilla", the first resident evil, one piece, but that's because some of these are adaptations of games, so who cares?
Yeah I agree
I dont care if percy jackson annabeth is black or any other ethnicity, she feels like a caricature. They dumbed down the character whos only power was being smart. And even if "nothing is truly new" it can still be different enough from what came before to be interesting. Who knows how many people with ideas for a story or interesring books were denied just to get another copy-paste movie out there. Its disheartening.

They just had two fails and a successful animated move
The literal ad before this video was another movie remake ad.

I do hate it. They just put a RTX texture on the original model and that’s it.
Wow, even dreamworks is starting to turn to the dark side of movie producers
As much as I hate live action remakes, I at least have to give them credit for making Toothless actually look like himself and not making him totally ugly and uncanny
Glad I'm not the only one who thought this was a fan recreation.
They really are turning 2 of my favorite movies ever in live action...dammit
The other one?
@@protosopic6398 Lilo and Stitch
@@chibiabelvods 😭😭😭
It does look like a fan film. Personally, I think everything outside of the dragons looks really cheap.
I just wish they did a series following the actual books. Camicazi is so cool.
They 2014 tumblrfied my HTTYD ):
as a huge HTTYD fan, I was super disappointed when i heard they were doing a live action remake. when i first saw the poster and the teaser, i legit thought they were fake cos they look like a lot of fan made stuff i have seen. also, something about the cgi Toothless just looks off. I am a huge fan of animation, and i hate that major film companies and moving away from it and doing stuff like this. I will probably watch this out of curiosity, but i will not be paying for a cinema ticket to do so
Yeah toothless head is wider and his back legs r different i think
Honestly I’m happy to be seeing this I mean I’ve always wondered what the dragons would look like in live action and now it cool and it’s perfect
It got the vibe of the IGN's "Legend of Zelda live action april fool trailer", lol.
I hate everything about this. I don't want to see a live action HTTYD (or any originally animated movie, period). I like the style of the original movies. I just want some freaking new original stories. Apparently creativity is too much to ask for these days in the mainstream entertainment industry.
Lol I also thought that hiccup in this live action movie looks like rodrick from diary of a whimpy kid
Glad im not the only one who thought it looked like a fan film😅
"this is The very first live action dreamwork movie"
How could you forget about hop
Honestly just why? Like I am sick of this live action remake shit. Are they so out of ideas the best they can think of is just remaking something
Either that or they need quick cash, and it's probably easier for them to use something they already have, then to start from scratch.
@@ThePrincessCHYeah. I mean for me I’m kind of excited because of how, Toothless looks. But I’m worried they are gonna add woke stuff. I don’t care if, Astrid is black, just don’t ruin my favourite movie with some weird gay stuff no one wants to see.
@Toothless_Edits777 Hard to say. People already have a headcannon about Gobber being gay since that line in the second film.
@@Toothless_Edits777bro shut up 💀
I thought they would try and revise the plot so that it would be unique, but it seems like nothing more than a reenactment.
Lets hope this is like A Minecraft Movie where the second trailer is more interesting...
I just hope the design for Toothless will get some tweeks before the release.
The way I got an ad for the new minecraft trailer the exact moment Dazz mentioned waiting for said trailer...
I’m done with these live action movies were in the era where every movie character comic book and anime and you name it live action
Anyone else thinks this looks cheap. Like I’m getting fanmade trailer vibes all over this!
Astrid is supposed to be a white blond caucasian female....
Yeah I’m sorry, I’m not on board with this 😑 I’ll admit the CGI and production looks decent enough and faithful to the source material. But the idea of making a live-action remake of a computer-animated movie is just wrong to me 😤
Can't wait for Shrek, Megamind and Kung Fu Panda live actions 💀
damn a live action despicable me was announced, and then this comes along, a bit sus dont u think
I think it's just stoic and hiccup some of the others are new like astrid
WHY DOES RUFFNUT HAVE A ROUND FACE , SHE HAS A LONG FACE IN THE MOVIES🖐😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
