    Lying on your back to demonstrate the point about spinal flexion was a really nice touch. It helped me understand the movement a lot better.

    4:10 In addition to longer arm ratio, longer torso ratio also helps. Short arms and short torso ratio truly poses a problem.

      our bodies are perfect just as they are :). But yes, not everyone can do everything, and that's just how it is!

    What an excellent explanation and demonstration! As a staple yoga movement, it didn’t seem inappropriate that UA-cam tried to save this in my ‘comfort food’ folder 💕

      That is very kind of you to say! I've been teaching a looooong time (and have a doctorate in a movement profession), so I do pride myself in my instructions :). Come enjoy a live class some time! yogaanatomyacademy.com/classes

    This was incredibly helpful. I have been practicing yoga off and on for years and never once come across instruction for how to accomplish this. I just tried it with the blocks, and bam, foot between my hands just like that for the first time ever. Thank you so much! I wish more instructors realized that what seems easy or basic to them isn't always so for students, especially those of us carrying extra weight.

    • @Ariele.Foster
      @Ariele.Foster  3 роки тому +4

      Right?! I didn't know for years either. And on the weight front, I'd love for it to be a "trend" among yoga teachers to recognize differences in bodies (NOT shaming) and to acknowledge how that will inevitably influence asana and movement and each of us will move slightly differently. Seems so obvious.

    I cannot wait to practice this. I am 64 with tight hips and not being able to step forward really takes away from the grace and beauty of my practice. Thank you and if you have any other helpful videos for hips I would love the info. 🙏🥰

      I'm so glad it was helpful. Please check with a physio to make sure your tight hips are not simply your joint structure and therefore normal for you. Here's the link to my hip video playlist :): ua-cam.com/video/UQ-t_FcC1xM/v-deo.html

    Thank you for this instruction, I appreciate it so much. For the first time I was able to get my foot between my hands using blocks and the other tips you listed. Beats inch worming my hand forward or standing up, placing my foot in position and then bringing hands down. The things we do when online classes provide no instruction on what is not an as easy as they make it look movement!

    Hi! I noticed that you're keeping your feet pointing forward, as opposed to slightly bringing them in. That's how I was cued and it makes sense to me, from an anatomical point of view, but maybe I'm wrong? Will you please explain what's the best way to orientate your toes in this pose? Thank you!
    P.S. Awesome demonstration!

    • @Ariele.Foster
      @Ariele.Foster  4 роки тому +1

      Hi there, and thanks for watching. I'm not 100% sure what you are asking, but I'll do my best to answer: where the toes point depends on a few factors. For example, in this video i suggest externally rotating the hip, which will also turn out (externally rotate) the toes. How much one does or does not externally rotate the hip will have a huge influence on the toes. Really there is no wrong direction of the toes, just what works best for the individual.

    • @girlwithflowers8058
      @girlwithflowers8058 4 роки тому

      @@Ariele.Foster Thank you for answering ☺️ That's what I was asking, whether there's just one "right" way of orienting the feet (and toes) while in downward dog. For my anatomy I need to bring them slightly in, and orient towards my midline. But your feet were parallel to each other - so what I understand is that it depends on each person and what works for them. Please keep the videos coming. You have a great way of explaining things!
