- Today, in the workshop, there is a 2020 C8 Corvette undergoing a few new procedures to ensure it stays in pristine condition. The first step involves applying a paint protection film to the exterior of the car, which will help prevent any scratches or chips from damaging the paint job. The second step is adding a window tint to the car's windows, which will not only enhance its aesthetic appeal but also provide privacy and protection from harmful UV rays. Finally, the car is getting a ceramic coating, which will provide a long-lasting layer of protection against environmental contaminants, such as bird droppings, tree sap, and other pollutants.

I had my entire hood, fenders and front end done in clear plastic for $1500 and it works! Plus you can put wax or paint sealer over it.

I have a friend that did the same thing, couldn’t wait to drive his new car and decided to get PPF after 2-3 weeks and during that time had several decent sized chips 🤦🏻♂️ hope it was worth it

When getting a new car its best to have PPF installed immediately after delivery. Some people have their cars delivered straight to the detail shop from the dealership via flatbed.
I saw this exact c8 going through Batavia on Randal! Next to Geneva and north Aurora! Suburbs just west of Chicago!

Only advice to him, back off on the tailgating or close encounters (I know it’s hard) and you’ll cut those stone chips down significantly
Soft paintwork will always scratch and swirl so easily, basically you need the ceramic coating from brand new to help protect it.
That wheel stand action though at 17:08 :) Need to get yourself a rolling table to set it on for washing ... or I need to make a way to raise it up higher I guess ...

Must have kept that car in a barn and lived on a gravel road. Good lord that car was hammered for basically a brand new vehicle. The guys did a magnificent job making it look better than new. I guess if Bo and Luke Duke own a new vette, you have to expect a few scratches.
For the C7, aftermarket splash guards really reduces the number of chips on the rocker panels. May not be available yet for the C8.
I just picked up my new C8 today. I had a wrap done on the car, refusing to drive the car except home and to the wrap detailer. I didn't want too much even of the beginning of damage until at least the wrap gave a semblance of protection. I forget what this wrap is, but it sports a ten year warranty. I have some ceramic products in my garage and i want to apply them next. What about the aluminum sill plates? Should they have a wrap installed on them? It seems to make sense. AF

I don't know sometime i polish and cut and just cant get the swirls out the sun or gas station lights hits the car and bam the right angle and i see them. Ive tried every pad and every machine and every polish and compound

My favorite is seeing the used cars you buy and the dealer hit it with the classic compound only no polish so the paint is dull

22 minutes with a black C8 corvette. It don’t get no better than this!
My C8 has 6500 miles and has a couple of tiny paint inclusions from the factory but zero rock chips on the body and only a few minor pits on the windshield. That car at 1700 miles must have traveled some rough back country roads.

What was that black panel for ? Where he put the window tint on. And he cut it to size right there. Is it some kind of monitor displaying the pattern for cutting ?
What was the approximate cost? I've had mine on order since 7/20 not sure how he got his so soon and he ordered in October? Anyway I'm looking to ceramic coat soon as she's delivered in a month or so.

That person needs a bumper car. Yikes... I took my car to be wrapped the day after I bought by I knew it wouldn’t take long to mess up the paint. Totally worth it.
Personally they should place some type of film to protect the inner part of the door from overspray of application during the tint process.

We're close!
Clay is used to remove overspray and some grime on the finished surface of the clear coat. Beware of using these products in a place like Phoenix, Az. After a few years you are much better off with the original OEM finish.

How do you do a paint correction after you put the wrap on it?
I have a question. I’m trying to start my own at home detail shop and I was wondering if it’s necessary to clay the entire car or can you just clay where it needs it? I noticed in the video he originally said he didn’t need to clay the car but after seeing a few “dots” he went against it. Couldn’t you just clay the couple of panels that need it and leave the rest?

Unfortunately the vette gets rock chips immediately. I got my C7Z repainted in some areas to touch up some chips and one drive home there were more. The car is just too low to the ground
I bet it's the water based paint. It seems to scratch very easy.

Synthetic clay seems to be the latest craze. What are your thoughts on it versus a regular clay bar?
Black Vettes should get extra clear coat or something from the factory. Even if the owner was driving it hard over rough roads it still shouldn't look that bad after around 1700 miles. Looked awesome after the detail though.
Don't understand why the owner would not do the protection before all the damage. Why wait until after ?
He must have money to burn . When it really starts looking crappy he'll trade it for another one

I wish GM paid this much attention to detail building these C8’s. Look at these guys doing an amazing work. The panel gaps on these new C8’s are pretty bad.
I can appriciate that viewpoint, but we do have to keep in mind how much car you are getting for the money. Costs have to be kept down somehow.
The quality control is trash but to be expected from GM 😯 The orange peel in the paint is horrendous

Nah, trust me, paint at 170K miles that has never been corrected looks much much worse. Especially the front - the bumper is pretty much gone over the point of no paint correction return by that mileage, as well as a good chunk of the hood. At that point only a full re-paint on the front will help to bring it back to life, no paint correction, no film, no miracle will help.
Trunk lid with the rear glass is called a hatch.
I think it looks way better D badged and clean.

Is it possible to put a thin sheet of plastic on the door panels when tinting the windows so all that water doesn't run down on the leather and controls.Seems like you would want to protect that area from getting wet??
It's just water and soap, and its wiped off within seconds.

What’s the cost for all the work? Better to do at 17 miles rather than 1700?
