Guess who went to see Triumph the same day she got out of the hospital from a tonsillectomy? This 17 year old (1983). Guess who got re-admitted to the hospital directly after the concert due to bleeding and a severely swollen throat? Yup and it was totally worth it!
Rik Emmett's vocals are beyond phenomenal! The control, the clarity, in-tune.. loud and clear and so intense and so powerful! They've been one of my most favourite rock bands ever since I can remember. Rik is AMAZING! Amazing guitarist and amazing vocalist! I get blown away every time I listen to him. 🇨🇦 🎸 🎶 🎵
Everyone always asks who is the best guitarist or who’s the best vocalist. No one ever asks if there’s Anyone who is great at guitar and singing,,,, well, that’s Rick Emmett !!!!
Yep you got some lead singers that you know they play rhythm guitar, they might be a decent singer but they're mediocre at the guitar, or they might be a mediocre singer and halfway decent on the guitar, it's super rare to find somebody that can nail them both Rik Emmett does that.
It is amazing that just 2 hours south of where I'm at, Cincinnati, you didn't get Triumph, April Wine, Kim Mitchell and Chilliwack on the radio. We had two stations that would play them. Not in heavy rotation but I heard them enough to still remember them 35 years later. Another excellent video guys! Thank you.
Great thing about growing up in Detroit…we got the Canadian rock stations. Knew about all the great Canadian bands/artists WAY BEFORE the rest of the U.S. Plus we got Hockey Night In Canada (Leafs ch. 9, Montreal ch. 54, IN FRENCH!)
Triumph is one of the most underrated rock bands to ever come out of Canada. They are right there with Rush. Why they are not in the Hall of Fame is an embarrassment to Rock music. Rick Emmet isThe most underrated guitarist ever. I have not seen them in concert but wished I could see them do Magic Power. Rick sings his heart out for their music. It comes out in this song. Thanks for Lay it on the line and Fight the Good Fight! It is great to see some 20 somethings enjoying and appreciating their talents of this power trio. Energy should have been the Band title.
I was lucky enough to see Triumph a total of 7 times in their short career, and get this! The first time was at my High School in 1978!! I was front row, pressed to the stage for that one!!
I'm 55, and grew up in Louisville, KY. These guys were HUGE in the Midwest in the late 70's. The Drummer is a trained Opera singer, so I'm sure he taught the other guys to sing.
Triumph's popularity peaked in the mid '80s. Magic Power, Fight the Good Fight, Hold On, Somebody's Out There, and Follow Your Heart are other well-known songs worth a reaction...
They were often compared to Rush because they were another power trio from Toronto, but they were different than Rush and very good. I am a huge Rush fan, but I loved both of them and saw them many times.
@@stevek729 Indeed. They each had part of their fan base, that were completely different from each other, and then there was a few of us in the middle who Vive la difference.
I am 57, and so thankful to have grown up during a time of some of the best music ever.....no auto tuning or overdubbing, just raw talent! Not to mention, the bands were distinguishable because of their own unique sound and style. I love music and listen to different genres, though the above reasons are why I still listen today!
The sound back then (70's) was THE BEST ROCK MUSIC of all-time, and Triumph was one of my favorite bands. There were soooo many great Rock bands from the 70's, with Deep Purple, Boston, Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk, Styx, Queen and ZZ Top, just to name a few. It was a great time to party.
I saw Triumph play to a half empty Baltimore Civic Center back in the '80's during a near blizzard. We thought for sure the show would be cancelled, but the band said since we were all there, the show will go on. And what a show it was. Hard to believe it was only three guys on stage making all of this sound. Killer light show too! (By the way, when the show was over and we walked outside the snow was crazy! What normally took a 45 minute drive home took close to four hours. Another one of 'those shows' I'll never forget.)
Triumph was huge in the states back in the day. I actually saw this concert back in 1982, Rik was wearing that red jumpsuit. 😆 The drummer also sings. Some great songs are, Never Surrender, Fight the good fight, Hold on, Magic Power. 👏🏼🙌🏼🤘🏼
Lucky you . I was oblivious to Triumph but an occasional play at a party . A big swing and a miss for me and then was stationed over seas in the early 80's . They are phenomenal. Well done Canada 🇨🇦 👏 👍 thank you for Rush and April Wine as well
It warms my old Canadian heart to see American music lovers discover Canadian talent. Whatever the reason so many great northern bands didn't make it in the US, with April Wine and Triumph...to survive in a small pond you need even more talent than treading water in a big ocean. Enjoy guys!
Right Emmitt is a great singer, a great writer, and a great guitarist. He's also a really nice guy who treats his fans with respect and has always been very nice to people who come to see him. Magic Power, and A World of Fantasy are both great songs. Magic Power became our theme song on our senior trip to Daytona Beach back in the day.
I'm a Texan and Triumph is my favorite rock band. I saw them in Dallas at Reunion Arena 3 times in the 80's. Such positive uplifting music. Saw Rik Emmett in '09 in Houston playing acoustic at a supper club with Dave Dunlop. Had the pleasure of meeting him. Such a gentleman. Fight the Good Fight, well the title says it all. So many awesome songs. Two that touched my heart the most that I've never heard on the radio back in the day. Ordinary Man and Just a Game.
I am just now getting to watch this watching You Guy's reaction to hearing this for first time is Awesome reminds me of when I was 16 in 1979 and hearing this song for first time became a Huge Triumph Fan got to see them live 9 times Amazing live shows funny hearing ya'll talk about not hearing them this is a Canadian Band that got a Huge start in San Antonio Texas Check out their live performances and every ablum kept getting Better ! Magic Power of The Music is with this Band!
🇨🇦😎 lovin it from Toronto Canada.....great Canadian Rock group.......Triumph was a Canadian hard rock band formed in 1975 that was popular in the late 1970s and the 1980s, building on its reputation and success as a live band. Between its 16 albums and DVDs, it has received 18 gold and nine platinum awards in Canada and the United States.
Wow, so sorry you guys had to wait this long to have some Triumph in your life. I'm shocked, they've been a staple of every classic rock station in any region I have ever visited. My little sister graduated from Murray State and I heard Triumph on the little station there.
Growing up in Buffalo NY we had a front row seat to how good this band was. Seen them numerous times. Always a great energetic show. I always was surprised at how much of the country never heard of them. Check out world of Fantasy
One of my favorite bands of all time, since the ‘80s, and Rik Emmett remains one of the most talented guitarists, not just hard rock, but blues, jazz and classical, he has a ton of solo material. So glad to see another generation discovering a great band from my era... “Lay It on the Line” and “Magic Power” were in heavy rotation on my rock radio station back in the day... also worthy of a listen are “Fight the Good Fight”, “Follow Your Heart”, “Spellbound”, “Say Goodbye”, “Hold On”, there’s a lot there...
All this music played in the midwest. We also left our doors unlocked. We also left our phone at home & went and enjoyed life. We listened to this at bonfires parties by lakes or rivers or barn parties. Different time for sure.
One good thing about being as old as I am is that this music was everywhere when I was young! We have several Triumph albums that we still listen to today (yes, I said ALBUMS). Magic Power is my favorite.
Triumph, as you can see, was the very first rock concert I went to at 15. They were absolutely second to none! Pls, pls do more, trust me you will not be disappointed. There's fight the good fight, hold on, never surrender, etc just so much to enjoy. Thanks for doing this one.
April Wine & Triumph were my HS rock bands of choice, I had tended to gravitate to the lessor played bands. Never knew in HS that the majority of bands I liked were Canuck bands in those days. April Wine was my first concert in So Cal in 82 - it was fire! Best concert ever! Triumph was the 3rd top billed band at the US Festival in 83. There were 8 Rock/Heavy Metal bands that played in one day. Triumph blew the headliner, Van Halen & David Lee Roth's drunk ass off the stage! A day & event I'll never forget that you can still find on YT.
These guys have a lot of great music. Us Canadian's grew up listening to these guys. Rick really can shread a guitar. The drummer Gil Moore takes lead vocals on some of their music as well. He is that other high range vocals you here in this tune. Magic Power, Hold On, and Tears in the Rain. There is a deep rabbit hole if you want to fall into it. These guys did there best work live.
Saw them LIVE in the 80's and they sounded every bit as good LIVE as they did on the sterio or studio. One of my all time fave bands! Love Rick Emmett!

OMG. Well played, gentlemen. I LOVE this band. "Fight The Good Fight" is the next one to check out. It is just flat out rocking and inspiring. They put the power in power trio.
I’ll tell you what back in the day of MTV these guys were huge they get out rock any group I don’t care who they are so I’m in Dallas Texas and they rocked that place down.

Rik Emmett is one of the most underrated singer/guitarists. Ever.
Everyone always asks who is the best guitarist or who’s the best vocalist. No one ever asks if there’s Anyone who is great at guitar and singing,,,, well, that’s Rick Emmett !!!!
Or who also a Damn good drummer and Lead Vocalist. Triumph had that too, and why their Harmony Vocals were over the top.
Doug. You got it so right! Seen them in the late 80’s Anchorage, Alaska, I was literally feet from Rick! Simply amazing!😉👍
Yep you got some lead singers that you know they play rhythm guitar, they might be a decent singer but they're mediocre at the guitar, or they might be a mediocre singer and halfway decent on the guitar, it's super rare to find somebody that can nail them both Rik Emmett does that.
Myles Goodwin from April Wine is high on my list.
@@toddstevens13 darn right he just nails it on Ordinary Man, my 2nd favorite song of Triumph.
I was lucky to grow up with this music ❤1979. Unbelievable voice. Love Triumph.
He did have great hair! 😂 All us girls were crushing on Rik Emmett. Your 3 heads bobbing to this is priceless 😁🤘
It is amazing that just 2 hours south of where I'm at, Cincinnati, you didn't get Triumph, April Wine, Kim Mitchell and Chilliwack on the radio. We had two stations that would play them. Triumph was my first concert back in 1983. Been a fan ever since

Kick a$$!!! I love Love LOVE Triumph. My fellow Canadians 👍👍👍💯💯💯😎😎😎🔥🔥🔥
I'm 55, and grew up in Louisville, KY. These guys were HUGE in the Midwest in the late 70's.
The Drummer is a trained Opera singer, so I'm sure he taught the other guys to sing.
He drums AND sings lead simultaneously on a good number of songs, too! The only other person I can think of who did that a lot is Phil Collins.
Triumph's popularity peaked in the mid '80s. Magic Power, Fight the Good Fight, Hold On, Somebody's Out There, and Follow Your Heart are other well-known songs worth a reaction...
Which was well after I stopped listening to them, Hold On was on Just A Game, but the rest are post JAG.
The guy on the right looks like LUKE BRYAN A very good country singer , ,,
@@theodoreritola9758 a pretty poor excuse for a country singer
Rocky Mountain Way (Walsh cover) , Rock and Roll Machine , Allied Forces .
“Never Surrender “ is another really good tune by Triumph. Saw them in 87’
The scary part is that the Drummer, Gil Moore, was Rik's equal as Lead Vocalist, and why their Harmony vocals were off the charts.
Mike Levine's outstanding backups didn't hurt either, all while pulling off bass guitar and keyboards.
You guys were def born in the wrong generation of Rock.
