Husqvarna Serger / Overlocker Threading - Huskylock 435

- A detailed demonstration of threading the Husqvarna HuskyLock 435 serger / overlocker.
With the help of the threading diagram, I demonstrate threading the top looper first, the lower looper second and then lastly, the needle.
Chaining off is the initial test to make sure everything is in order, then sewing a seam on fabric for the final test.
Tension and blade adjustment will be shown in future videos.
Troubleshooting:
Make sure to have a good needle installed. If you're unsure, replace it with a brand new one.
Check the blades are cutting well. Use several strands of thread and put them under the top blade and turn the hand wheel until the blade comes down and the threads should be cut cleanly. If not, the blades will need sharpening.
Double check the treading and check the tensions.

This is my “first” serger, my mother gifted me with it in maybe 1987-88. Honestly I was a bit frustrated because I didn’t know anything about them, and didn’t have any thought that I needed one. I felt bad for her spending $$$ on it! It was the best gift ever! Now on April 30, 2024 I am threading it back up, having bought it a new upper blade. It got temporarily retired by two other machines, both four thread options.
I had this serger long ago but sadly was mortally wounded in a move. Fell and broke apart! My dream would be to find another like it! , but don't have a clue about finding such an old machine. I love your videos!
Thank you so much for this!!!
Thank you very much! Patiently explained, and you've given me the courage to make another attempt!
I'm please it was helpful. Good luck!
Excellent video, Dankie! Clear visuals, and detailed explanation of threading. I did not know a serger could cut cloth as well, what a marvel of mechanical engineering! I must get one soon.
Glad it was helpful!
AMAZING! this was perfect, to the point, clear- so helpful! many thanks for taking the time to do this.
Thank you again for a very well filmed video. I appreciate your camera angles. I was able to thread my Simplicity Expert SL4390 even though I am new to serging and had no manual based on another of your videos, thanks! I have been busy making medical masks, but in looking at your chain realize that my tensions must be off, because my chain is kind of ratty looking...lol.
Thank you, I have a 430, about the same, I like how you showed to pull the thread towards the center(s) of the tensioning discs.. great tut
Thank
You
Great video! 👍🏻 thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you very much. I managed to get my second hand 360D working by following your video! It was expensive so I had been panicking that I'm never manage it. Would a huskylock 90 waste bin fit on my machine? Which is the best size thread to buy? I shall carry on looking at your videos. Many thanks again!
Nice one. What do you think of the Huskylock 540 serger. Have the chance to pick up one never used. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video. I bought a used Huskylock 234d which is the 4 thread of this "same" machine. I was having the worst time trying to thread it even with the manual... Was having horrible issues of tension, no chaining, etc. Hopefully all my problems were due to it not being threaded correctly.
Glad I could help!
thank you so much for this guide i learned a lot just got an old serger and im trying to learn how to do maintained on it and fix a timing issue on it i think
Thanks.
MAINTENANCE, not MAINTAINED. Please use correct punctuation in your writing. 'I' not 'i'. Start sentences with capital letters. Sloppy writing is a sloppy mind. Use a period to start another sentence. Your English teacher let you down early in life. Fix your English before you fix your sewing machine.
I have a Huskylock 431 working just fine but the back cover is broken.Do you know where i can find a replacement part?
I'm looking for a manual for this serger without having to buy the download. I did send an email to the company so hopefully they will send me a download link.
I am having an issue with my huskylock 430 upper looper arm... I knocked it out of alignment. Do you have any tips on realigning the upper looper arm?
can you demonstrate how to change the blades on the 435 serger?
Thanks for this very helpful demo. It was 100% accurate for the Huskylock 431 as well which looks identical from what I can see from the video. I'm trying to figure out how to adjust cut width on the machine, but don't see any dials such as I see on videos for other machines. How would you do it with your 435, which looks so similar to mine. My test seams are very thin, about 1/8" in width. Any suggestions?
Glad it was helpful! From memory, there are allen grub screws that need loosening to allow the lower knife to move. The upper knife is spring loaded against the lower knife.
I just got my hands on a husky lock 440. Are you familiar with that one at all? Cheers
Thank you so much for this video, I’m new with serger machines and my needle just broke, I’m not sure what needle this specific machine needs or where I can find it, I have the huskylock 435, I hope someone can help me 🥺
Thanks. It takes a DBx1 needle which is normally used on industrial machines. You should be able to find them online.
What number for tightening for running
My mom has husky lock 435 I really happy you teach me how to tread but I need to know what number of the dial each one of them please teach me how?
Start with each dial on about 4.
THREAD, not TREAD.
THREAD is what a sewing machine uses
TREAD is the sole your foot abuses.
Hi, Thank you for this video. I recently bought a Huskylock 535D which looks like this model but has 4 spools. One of the tension dials was not working, and when it was taken apart the tech told me the machine cannot be fixed because the blue post within the dial (which I can see in your video inside the lower left dial) has broken off and it is part of the cover, it's one mold. So I would need to replace the whole cover which is impossible to find outside of buying another used machine. I find it hard to believe that that tiny little post breaking off renders the machine useless- have you ever had that issue? Seems like a huge design flaw to make it that way. The motor works well, everything else is fine. So I am hoping to come across another fix. Thanks!
Maybe the post can be rebuilt or replaced with a substitute part somehow?
Thanks for your reply! That little plastic post is so narrow. I tried to glue it back on but it keeps falling off. It's strangely molded into the front cover so I would need to replace the whole cover. I'll take it to another repair shop to see - maybe someone creative and who is interested in preserving older machines. The guy I took it to seemed to think it was a waste of time and suggested buying a new machine.@@InStitches
Can you tell me
What tensions should be .
Hi. Generally between 3 and 5. Thanks.
What ones
@@TheNanaweaver Try 4-4-3 The lower looper usually is 3.
Someone is selling one of these on eBay for $125 plus $55 shipping. I came to see what this machine can do. 👌. It’s needs threading for sure. 😅😁
